Los Angeles Rams at Los Angeles Chargers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Los Angeles Rams at Los Angeles Chargers odds and lines, with expert NFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The Los Angeles Rams (5-10) and Los Angeles Chargers (9-6) will square off at their shared home field of SoFi Stadium Sunday in Week 17. Kickoff is set for 4:25 p.m. ET (CBS) after being flexed out of the Sunday night slot by the NFL. Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Rams vs. Chargers odds, and make our expert NFL picks and predictions.

The Rams, who will be the designated visiting team, stunned the Denver Broncos in blowout fashion Christmas Day, winning 51-14 as 3-point home underdogs. While it was only their 5th win of the season, they’ve won 2 of their last 3 games with Baker Mayfield at QB. Defensively, the Rams have only allowed an average of 18.0 points per game in their last 3 games and rank 12th in total yards allowed this year (4,965).

The Chargers have been carried by their defense the last 3 weeks, allowing only 34 combined to the Miami Dolphins, Tennessee Titans and Indianapolis Colts. That’s the fewest points allowed since Week 14, which shows how well this defense is playing right now – albeit against some lesser opponents. The offense has sputtered a bit, however, scoring 27 points or fewer in each of their last 10 games.

Rams at Chargers picks and predictions

Prediction

Chargers 24, Rams 16

Moneyline

The Rams (+225) looked unstoppable on offense last week, scoring on each of their first 8 drives, but the Broncos also seemed disinterested in trying to slow them down.

The Chargers (-270) are a much more competitive team and they’re fighting for playoff positioning, unlike Denver.

The Rams’ 51-point outburst was more than likely a fluke, and I see them regressing back to the mean this week. However, the juice on the money line isn’t worth betting, so PASS here.

Against the spread

The Chargers are 9-5-1 ATS, which is the 5th-best record in the league. The Rams, on the other hand, are just 6-8-1 ATS. The Rams have kept things competitive in recent weeks, going 4-1 ATS in their last 5, but the Chargers pass rush and defense present some challenges for the Rams.

I would LEAN CHARGERS -6.5 (-106) in this one.

Over/Under

The Under is 2-1 in the Rams’ last 3 games and 3-2 in their last 5, so they haven’t exactly played high-scoring games lately. For the Chargers, the total has gone Under in each of their last 4 contests, largely because of the way the defense has played.

Prior to scoring 51 against Denver, the Rams hadn’t topped 23 points since Week 6. That’s more along the lines of how they’ll play on offense Sunday. I like UNDER 41.5 (-110) in this matchup.

Los Angeles Rams at Los Angeles Chargers odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s Los Angeles Rams at Los Angeles Chargers preseason odds and lines, with expert NFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers open their preseason slates on Saturday at SoFi Stadium. Kickoff is set for 10 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Rams vs. Chargers odds, and make our best NFL picks, predictions and bets.

The Rams are technically the road team in this game, but the defending Super Bowl champions will be right at home at SoFi Stadium — their home field and the site of their Super Bowl win in February.

Under head coach Sean McVay, the Rams don’t play their starters in the preseason, so don’t expect to see QB Matthew Stafford, WR Cooper Kupp, DT Aaron Donald or CB Jalen Ramsey. Instead, McVay will use these games to evaluate his younger players at the expense of meaningless wins; the Rams went 0-3 in the preseason last year.

Chargers coach Brandon Staley will take a similar approach. He’s likely going to rest most of his starters too, giving rookies and unproven players a chance to make a name for themselves at SoFi Stadium. The Chargers scored the second-fewest points (23) in the preseason last year, resting QB Justin Herbert and other top players for all 3 contests.

Rams at Chargers picks and predictions

Prediction

Rams 14, Chargers 10

Money line

The Rams went winless in the preseason last year while resting their starters, continuing McVay’s lack of success in these exhibition games — not that it matters in the slightest bit. He also usually lets his offensive coordinators call the plays, and the scheme isn’t exactly the most complex in the preseason.

However, the Chargers are going to be in the same boat with resting their starters and caring more about health than wins the next 3 weeks. I’ll roll with the underdogs and their solid collection of backups in the preseason when anything can happen. Take the RAMS (+130).

Against the spread

Taking the points in the preseason is never a bad idea. This game will be about backups and reserves playing against backups and reserves, so there’s no real edge on either side. Chargers QB Chase Daniel might be a better backup than Rams QB John Wolford, but their playmakers on the outside will both be on the weaker side.

I like the RAMS -3.5 (-110) in an evenly matched game at both teams’ home field.

Over/Under

The Rams scored 34 points in 3 preseason games last year. The Chargers scored 23. Both teams were in the bottom 6 of the league. Their defenses were similar in allowing 47 and 48 points, respectively, but don’t expect much from the offenses.

Bet the UNDER 30.5 (-117).

Los Angeles Chargers at Los Angeles Rams odds and lines: Fans need to wait for Stafford’s debut

Looking at Saturday’s Los Angeles Chargers at Los Angeles Rams odds and lines.

In what will be the first-ever game at SoFi Stadium with fans in the stands, the Los Angeles Chargers will take on the Los Angeles Rams as the teams share the stadium in Inglewood, Calif., Saturday night. Kickoff is set for 10 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Chargers at Rams odds and lines.

The Chargers are coming off a 7-9 season in which rookie QB Justin Herbert was the starter in 15 of 16 games. He was the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year throwing for 4,336 yards and 31 touchdowns. Former Rams defensive coordinator Brandon Staley takes over as the head coach hoping to turn the Chargers into contenders in the AFC West.

The Rams will take a guarded approach in the preseason keeping their starters on the sideline for these exhibition games. Backup QB John Wolford is also out after having an appendectomy, and the Rams will be going with their third-string quarterback. QB Matthew Stafford won’t be on the field nor will DT Aaron Donald or CB Jalen Ramsey.

New to NFL betting?

The Rams are the underdogs in this one at +145. That gives them an implied win probability of 40.82% against the Chargers. If they win outright, a $10 wager will net a profit of $14.50. If you bet $10 on the Chargers to win outright, it would return a profit of $5.56. They have an implied win probability of 64.29%.

If you were to bet $10 on the Rams to cover the 3.5-point spread, they would have to win outright or lose by three points or fewer to net a profit of $8. A $10 bet on the Chargers to cover the spread and win by at least four points would return a profit of $10.

A $10 wager on the Over (-105) would profit $9.52, and a winning Under (-115) ticket would net a profit of $8.70.
