After 14 years with Pete Carroll as their coach, the Seattle Seahawks move into a new era in 2024 with rookie head coach Mike Macdonald. They hope to return to the postseason and start a new run after they finished 9-8 in 2023 and missed the playoffs.

Geno Smith remains as their starting quarterback, but they acquired former Washington Commanders starter Sam Howell to back him up.
They had to remake their linebacker room as Bobby Wagner and Jordyn Brooks both signed elsewhere. They were replaced by Tyrel Dodson and Javon Baker, while they re-signed DL Leonard Williams and added DL Johnathan Hankins.
In the draft, they selected DL Byron Murphy II (Texas) in the 1st round and added OL Christian Haynes (UConn) in the 2nd.
C Evan Brown left in free agency and was replaced by Nick Harris.

The Seahawks are the one team without coaching continuity. It is Macdonald’s 1st head-coaching gig. It could take a while to get some defensive momentum, despite the talent on the field.
Offensively, they have good talent at the skill positions but they have offensive line questions and Smith has not been particularly productive since the 1st half of 2022.
There will be growing pains.

At +7500 odds, the Seahawks are long shots with 1.32% implied probability of winning it all, or 75/1 fractional odds.
To contrast, the San Francisco 49ers are the favorites in the league at +550, followed by the Kansas City Chiefs at +600.
But if we are saying the Seahawks will struggle to beat their projected win total, don’t consider a bet on them to win the Super Bowl.

Will Seahawks make the playoffs?

Do the Seahawks have a ceiling of the postseason? Yes. If their defense jells early and becomes a dominant unit, allowing Smith to simply protect the football, they could win as many as 9 or 10 games.
And with +186 odds, that is a nice payout for a team that could pull it off like they did two seasons ago.
Backing SEAHAWKS TO MAKE PLAYOFFS (+186) with a small wager is worth it.

- Rams +330 (bet $100 to win $330)
- Seahawks +750 (bet $100 to win $750)

At +750 odds, the Seahawks only have 11.76% implied odds of winning the division, or 15/2 fractional odds.
This is the 49ers’ division until they prove otherwise. Nine or 10 wins, likely the Seahawks’ ceiling for 2024, won’t win the division.

Again, we are talking about a team lucky to get to 9 wins. A rookie head coach, an average, aging quarterback and new offensive and defensive systems all combine to put them in rebuilding mold.
