The Kansas City Chiefs (10-4) travel to the Windy City to take on the Chicago Bears (7-7) Sunday night at Soldier Field. If the Chiefs can win their next two games, they have an excellent shot at the No. 2 overall seed and that much important first-round bye in the playoffs.

Chiefs vs. Bears

Patrick Mahomes is throwing the ball extremely well as of late and the Chiefs have won their last four games, including a 20-3 rout of the Broncos at home last weekend. With an AFC West title in hand after defeating the Raiders in Week 13, Mahomes completed 27 of 34 passes for 340 yards, two touchdowns against the Broncos. The running game did struggle, as Darwin Thompson led the team with just eight carries for 38 yards. It’s no secret, with weapons like the speedy Tyreek Hill and tight end Travis Kelce that KC is going to air it out. The team is ranked fifth in total offense (384.4 YPG) and third in passing (291.4 YPG).

Defensively, they held Denver to 260 yards of total offense. Tyrann Mathieu paved the way with five tackles and one sack, while rookie Juan Thornhill added four tackles and an interception. The unit added linebacker Terrell Suggs from the Cardinals this week. Suggs is a hard-nosed, gritty linebacker, who brings a veteran presence and Super Bowl experience to the team. While Kansas City is 11th in pass defense (225.1 YPG), the team has struggled against the run, ranking 26th (131.5 YPG).

The Chicago Bears are eliminated from playoff contention, but that won’t stop them from trying to play spoiler in their final stretch of the season. Chicago fell 21-13 last week to the Packers in a game that saw quarterback Mitch Trubisky throw the ball 53 times. He completed just 29 of those attempts for a total of 334 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Both teams will need to get their running game going to take the pressure off their quarterbacks.

While the Chiefs rank near the top of most major offensive categories, the Bears are near the bottom. This game will come down to the Kansas City offense against a Chicago defense that is third in points allowed (18.1 PPG). Can the defensive front put pressure on Mahomes and how will the secondary stack up against the Chiefs offensive weapons?

After losing three games in a row, the Dallas Cowboys finally picked up a victory, beating the Rams 44-21 at home. Dak Prescott completed 15 of 23 passes for 212 yards and two touchdowns to bring his total to 4,334 yards on the year, second-most in the NFL. However, he did suffer a shoulder injury in the process. Prescott was limited in practice this week, but the team is confident he will start on Sunday. In order to take the pressure of Prescott, the Cowboys must keep pounding the rock. Last weekend, Tony Pollard and Ezekiel Elliott combined for 148 yards on 36 carries and three touchdowns. This offense ranks first overall (434.0 YPG) and second in the passing game (300 YPG).

Defensively, Dallas held Todd Gurley to 11 carries for a minuscule 20 yards. Last time these two teams met, the Cowboys defense did an excellent job holding Carson Wentz to under 200 yards passing and forcing an interception. Miles Sanders, the Eagles leading rusher, was a non-factor. Jordan Howard led the team with 50 yards. The Cowboys rank 12th against the run, while they are more efficient when it comes to the pass, with teams putting up an average of 323.6 YPG, seventh-best in the NFL.

Philadelphia has won its last two games and is looking to make it three in a row in a crucial divisional contest. Last weekend in a 37-27 victory over Washington, Wentz threw for 266 yards and three touchdowns, while Sanders racked up a season-high 122 yards on 19 carries and one touchdown. By utilizing the running game, the Eagles allow Wentz to make throws without facing a Dallas defense that is predicting the pass.

No matter how you put it, Dallas is going to get a lot of yards on the ground and in the air and have a bevy of weapons with Prescott, Elliott and wide receiver Amari Cooper. The Eagles must focus on stopping the run first and foremost and disrupting the Cowboy’s game plan. Philadelphia is third in rush defense with opponents gaining an average of 90.4 YPG. The team’s physicality and ability to stop one of the best offenses in the league will be the key to success on Sunday.

Packers vs. Vikings: 5 things to watch and a prediction

Five things to watch and a prediction for Monday night’s showdown between the Packers and Vikings at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.

The Green Bay Packers can clinch the NFC North title and secure a top-3 seed in the NFC playoffs by beating the Minnesota Vikings in primetime on Monday night at U.S. Bank Stadium, a venue where the Packers have never won.

Here are five things to watch and a prediction for Monday night:

1. Rushers in the spotlight

This matchup will feature four of the NFL’s most productive pass-rushers, with Green Bay’s Za’Darius Smith and Preston Smith matched up against Minnesota’s Danielle Hunter and Everson Griffen. Who will be the most disruptive duo on Monday night? The Packers kept Kirk Cousins under consistent pressure in the first meeting, especially early, while Hunter and Griffen both got going once the Packers built a lead. Cousins has been terrific this season, but he’s prone to mistakes and inefficiency when pressured. This is a great opportunity for the two Smiths to take over another game. On offense, David Bakhtiari and Bryan Bulaga have a big challenge awaiting them. Hunter and Griffen are tough to block in the noise at U.S. Bank Stadium.

2. Winning the rushing battle

The Vikings are 9-1 when they rush for more yards than their opponent and 1-3 when their opponent wins the rushing battle this season. Everything the Vikings do on offense is based around the run, and that probably won’t change even if running backs Dalvin Cook and Alexander Mattison don’t play on Monday night. They block well and stay committed to the run as a foundation of the scheme. Mike Zimmer’s defense has only allowed three opponents to rush for more than 125 yards this season, although the Packers accomplished the feat in Week 2. The Seahawks ran for 218 yards and scored 37 points against the Vikings. The Lions and Chargers managed 132 total rushing yards and scored just 17 total points the last two weeks. Can the Packers contain the Vikings on the ground and get Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams going on Monday night?

3. Will Kenny keep killing it?

In the first meeting, Kenny Clark dominated rookie center Garrett Bradbury. The two will face off again on Monday night. Bradbury has improved, especially in pass protection, but Clark has overcome a midseason injury and is once again dominating. He’s controlling games up front, allowing the defense to play lighter against the run, and he’s getting – and winning – far more one-on-one battles as a rusher. Mike Pettine has found ways to get Clark freed up, using Za’Darius Smith as a rover to eliminate opportunities for teams to double-team the Packers’ nose tackle. Clark needs to be a game-changer on Monday night.

4. Heart of the defense

Vikings linebacker Eric Kendricks is having an All-Pro season. He runs well, diagnoses quickly and is rarely out of position, and he’s arguably the best cover linebacker in football. His matchup against Aaron Jones could help decide the game. In the first meeting, Jones found cutback lanes and gashed the Vikings for chunk gains. Expect Kendricks and the Vikings front to put up a better fight this time around. Also, will the Packers prioritize getting the football to the running backs in the passing game? Jones and Jamaal Williams were effective as receivers in Week 2.

5. Packers CBs vs. Vikings WRs

The matchup of the game: Jaire Alexander and Kevin King vs. Stefon Diggs and Adam Thielen. Both the Vikings receivers have terrorized the Packers in recent years, although Alexander and King finally put up a legitimate fight back in Week 2. Ideally, the Packers would stop the run and force Kirk Cousins to win the game with his arm. Can the cornerbacks prevent big plays and help the Packers get off the field on big third downs? Alexander has played at a high level all season but is lacking that one special game. Maybe he’ll produce it Monday night against Thielen and Diggs, one of the game’s best receiver tandems.

Prediction: Vikings 28, Packers 20 (11-3)

The Vikings aren’t going to have Pro Bowler Dalvin Cook, creating a real possibility for the Packers to win their first game at U.S. Bank Stadium. The worry here is that the Packers offense will struggle to move the football in a tough environment and the defense will allow too many explosive plays to beat a talented team on the road.

The Merseysiders can move within one point of Arsenal and likely drag them into the bottom half if they can win a second time in three games under Ferguson. The Scot was appointed as a temporary replacement for Marco Silva, who was fired at the beginning of December. Ferguson beat Chelsea 3-1 in his debut before drawing 1-1 at Manchester United on Sunday.

Arsenal hasn’t enjoyed quite the same success with its own former player and interim boss Freddie Ljungberg, who won just one of his five matches in charge of the Gunners. Former player Mikel Arteta, who most recently was an assistant coach with Manchester City, was announced as the new manager of Arsenal earlier this week.

Currently ninth in the table, Arsenal is already seven points off the top four approaching the midway point this season, with morale low following Sunday’s 3-0 loss at home to Manchester City. Kevin De Bruyne dismantled Ljungberg’s team scoring twice and assisting Raheem Sterling at Emirates Stadium.

Meanwhile, Everton conceded a late Mason Greenwood equalizer after leading for much of the visit to Old Trafford. Theo Walcott and Morgan Schneiderlin remain out of action for Ferguson, as are long-term absentees Andre Gomes and Jean-Philippe Gbamin. Lucas Digne came off in the first half against United and could also be in doubt.

Dani Ceballos and Granit Xhaka are questionable in midfield, meaning Ljungberg could again look to the likes of Bakayo Saka, 18, Emile Smith Rowe, 19, and Joe Willock, 20, off the bench.

The Chargers are off a 45-10 road win over the Jacksonville Jaguars, which puts them at 5-8 on the year. The Vikings enter this game off a 20-7 home victory over the Detroit Lions to move to 9-4.

Los Angeles, who was mathematically eliminated last weekend, is looking to play spoiler and show some life in the final stretch after an underwhelming season. For Minnesota, who is currently listed as the sixth seed in the NFC, they are eager to win the NFC North title.

This game could very well be an upset since the Bolts are finally healthy at nearly every position. But we’ve got Minnesota defeating Los Angeles in what we see as a shootout by the score of 24-20.

Week 15 Preview and Prediction: Seahawks at Panthers

Previewing and predicting the Week 15 matchup when the Seattle Seahawks travel to Carolina to face off against the Panthers.

For the 11th time in 10 years, the Seattle Seahawks will face off against the Carolina Panthers. These two clubs have met with usual regularity for teams not even on the same coast, let alone the same division. In fact, Seattle has played the Panthers at least once in every year under coach Pete Carroll – including twice in 2014 and 2015 – except for the 2017 season.

Although this has been billed as one of the better conference rivalries, as games between Carolina and Seattle are typically competitive, the “rivalry” is truly anything but. The Seahawks outright own the Panthers, winning nine out of the thirteen total match-ups, with the most recent victory coming just last year in a 30-27 road win.

This domination is expected to continue as the Seahawks open up as massive six-point road favorites over Carolina, who is in free-fall mode. The Panthers started the year 0-2, but rattled off four straight wins and looked like a legitimate playoff contender. Then they proceeded to lose six of their next seven games, including the last five straight.

The Panthers have fired their long-time coach, Ron Rivera, and are just looking to limp through the rest of a lost season as they plan for the future.

As the calendar moves to December, the final month of the NFL regular season, the Pittsburgh Steelers realize they must continue their playoff push. The Steelers have won two in a row and six of their last seven games. Devlin Hodges completed 14 of 21 passes for 212 yards, one touchdown and one interception in a 20-13 win over the Browns last weekend. Rookie Benny Snell Jr. rushed for 63 yards and one score in the absence of James Conner. James Washington stepped in as the team’s No. 1 receiver with JuJu Smith-Schuster sidelined and reeled in four catches and one touchdown. The Steelers should be getting Conner and Schuster back shortly, as well as starting center Maurkice Pouncey who was suspended two games for his role in the brawl vs. Browns two weeks ago.

The Steelers defense has been red hot as well. They currently rank fifth in total defense with opponents averaging 317.2 YPG. Last weekend against the Browns, Pittsburgh recorded five sacks and one interception. Rookie Devin Bush Jr. led the team with seven tackles, while Alvin Dupree added six tackles and one-and-a-half sacks. Minkah Fitzpatrick has turned out to be a great acquisition after being acquired from the Dolphins. Fitzpatrick is a beast in the secondary and is tied for the league lead with five interceptions this season.

Arizona has lost five in a row, including a 34-7 thumping at home against the Rams. Once again, the offense struggled. Kyler Murray threw for 163 yards and one interception while adding 28 yards rushing and a score. Kenyan Drake led all rushers with 31 yards. The team has weapons on the offensive side of the ball, which is obvious after posting 54 points in two games against the 49ers and 27 points against Tampa Bay. Murray was the No. 1 overall pick for a reason. He can beat you with his arm and with his legs, but he needs to stay consistent and not turn the ball over.

The defense has been an issue for the Cardinals this season. They rank last in the NFL in yards allowed (426.3) and passing yards allowed (307.5) and are second-to-last in points allowed (29.2). This was evident against the Rams, who produced over 500 yards of total offense with 424 yards coming through the air.

Both teams met back in Week 7 when Kirk Cousins and Matt Stafford each threw for over 300 yards and three touchdowns. However, it was Vikings running back Dalvin Cook’s 142 yards rushing and two touchdowns that provided the difference in the game. Can the Vikings pick up another divisional win and inch closer to the Packers? We’ll find out Sunday.

Lions vs. Vikings

Everything seemed to be going wrong at the quarterback position for the Lions. Stafford and Jeff Driskel were both out, so it was next man up for Detroit. David Blough completed 22 of 38 passes for 280 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception, but the team lost 24-20 vs. Chicago, its fifth loss in a row. Bo Scarborough rushed for 83 yards and Kenny Golladay reeled in four catches for a season-high 158 yards, his fifth game over 100 yards. Detroit can put up points and it will try and beat you through the air. The Lions rank seventh in total yards (337.2 YPG) and seventh in passing yards (271.7 YPG).

While the offense is successful, the Lions defense has struggled mightily. Bears quarterback Mitch Trubisky threw for 338 yards and three touchdowns. As a unit, the defense is 29th in total yards allowed (398.1 YPG) and 30th in passing yards allowed (280.1 YPG). The Vikings rely on the run, but with Cook’s production down the last two games, they could put the ball in Cousins’ hands more and allow his weapons on the outside to make plays.

Don’t count the Vikings out in any games. Their last four have been decided by seven points or less and that includes a 26-23 loss to Kansas City on the road and a 37-30 loss in Seattle last week. Cousins completed 22 of 38 passes for 276 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Those passes went to a total of nine different wide receivers. Cook injured his shoulder in the game and has since said he will be ready to play, but how productive will he be? In his last two games, he has a combined 55 yards and two touchdowns. Not the numbers the league’s fifth-best rusher (1,046 yards) is accustomed to putting up.

The Seahawks totaled over 450 yards of offense against Minnesota. Russell Wilson made plays with his arm and accounted for 240 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception, but it was Seattle’s ground and pound rushing attack that was the most damaging. Chris Carson and Rashad Penny combined for 38 carries, 176 yards, and two touchdowns. How will the defense bounce back against a weak Lions running attack? Can it stop the passing game? That is Detroit’s forte and the Vikings are ranked 20th in that category (242.9 YPG), the worst of any major defensive statistic.

We may have witnessed a preview of the Super Bowl this past weekend when the Ravens and 49ers squared-off. Baltimore was able to edge out San Francisco 20-17 despite some terrible weather conditions. Lamar Jackson didn’t have his best game passing going 14 of 25 for 101 yards and one touchdown, but it didn’t matter. Jackson picked up where he left off in the run game with 16 carries for 101 yards and another score. This year, he’s totaled 977 yards rushing and will most certainly break the 1,000-yard barrier against the Bills. To put his numbers in perspective, he is ranked ninth in rushing in all of the NFL. Kyler Murray is the next best quarterback on the list with 446 yards. Jackson is a highlight reel waiting to happen and has teamed with Mark Ingram in the backfield to give the Ravens the best rushing attack in the league and second-best offense.

Jackson is a difference-maker, but the Baltimore defense is playing lights out lately. Against the 49ers, it recorded two sacks and limited Jimmy Garoppolo to 165 yards and one touchdown. Raheem Mostert was able to run the ball efficiently on the defense with 19 carries for 146 yards, and one touchdown. The Ravens are fifth in points allowed (18.2) and sixth in rushing yards allowed (94.2 YPG). Buffalo quarterback Josh Allen isn’t afraid to run the ball or hand off to running backs Devin Singletary or Frank Gore. The defense’s ability to stop the run will be key in this game.

What a difference a year makes. Buffalo was 6-10 last year and is now 9-3 and hot on the heels of the New England Patriots in the AFC East. The Bills have won three in a row, including a 26-15 win over the Cowboys on Thanksgiving. Josh Allen accounted for 274 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns, while Devin Singletary posted 101 total yards and one touchdown. Cole Beasley led the team with six catches for 110 yards and one touchdown against his former team. It marked the first 100+ yard receiving game of the season for Beasley.

The game plan is simple defensively. Stop Lamar Jackson and the Ravens running game. How the team is able to execute it is a different story. Buffalo was able to sack quarterback Dak Prescott four times, two of those coming from rookie Ed Oliver, and force an interception. The defense ranks third in total defense with opponents averaging 300.1 YPG and will face arguably their biggest test of the year this weekend.
