Florida vs Missouri football game moved to October 31

With the COVID-19 outbreak still ravaging the University of Florida’s football team, their game next weekend has been pushed back a week.

The coronavirus dominoes continued to fall for the University of Florida’s football team on Friday when it was announced that its game against the Missouri Tigers next weekend has been postponed one week and will now be played on Oct. 31 — Halloween — in Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.

The Gators already had their matchup with the LSU Tigers put off until Dec. 12 last Wednesday and the latest rescheduling is demonstrative of Florida’s lack of confidence that enough scholarship players will be cleared of COVID-19 to meet the Southeastern Conference’s minimum. Barring any other further setbacks, UF will be without a bye for the remainder of their schedule, including the typical week off before the SEC Championship Game — if they can even make it that far.

Missouri, on the other hand, will head back home and take on the Kentucky Wildcats this weekend — who were scheduled to play the Georgia Bulldogs this Saturday but that game also got shifted back to Halloween — instead of hosting the Vanderbilt Commodores, whose roster has been depleted by injuries and COVID-19. The Vandy game has been rescheduled for Dec. 12 much like Florida’s match with LSU.

Did you catch all of that?

It is only a matter of time before the conference’s music chairs collapse into chaos, but for now, the league is content with its dangerous dance with COVID-19. As they say, the show must go on.

Florida’s football squad has been sidelined by a COVID-19 outbreak, while the cross country team travels to Alabama and soccer hosts Vandy.

Typically on an October Friday, Gators fans are gearing up for their favorite football to take the field on Saturday, but alas, this is no typical Friday. Due to an outbreak of the novel coronavirus on UF’s football squad, its home game against the LSU Tigers tomorrow has been postponed until Dec. 12.

In the meantime, Florida’s biggest rival gets set to play in the biggest game of this season so far when No. 2 Alabama and No. 3 Georgia meet up in Tuscaloosa. More than just a potential preview of this year’s SEC championship game, the result of Saturday’s matchup will echo across the Power Five landscape and wield a heavy influence on the makeup of the College Football Playoff.

The Crimson Tide will likely be without coach Nick Saban due to a positive COVID-19 test, but he said Wednesday that says he’s ‘feeling great’ and would ‘hate’ to miss the game against the Bulldogs. Saban did not make any reference to the results of his daily test on Thursday but did seem to hold the door slightly open for a possible return to the sideline for Saturday’s game.

In Gators athletics news, the men’s and women’s cross country teams travel to Hoover, Ala., today to participate in the Blazer Classic, hosted by the University of Alabama-Birmingham. Florida joins Arkansas, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Middle Tennessee State, Mississippi State (women’s race), Ole Miss, Tennessee and Vanderbilt in the field of competition.

Coming up Sunday, the soccer team hosts the Vanderbilt Commodores in Gainesville. Florida leads the all-time series, 28-3-1, won their most recent meeting, 1-0, on Sept. 29, 2019 and carries a 1-1-1 record heading into their fourth game of the SEC-only schedule.

The Gators football team has a coronavirus outbreak plus Nick Saban and his athletic director test positive as COVID-19 haunts the SEC.

[jwplayer 9tjU7C84]

The week already began on a low note as the Gator Nation crawled out of the weekend bruised and battered after a disappointing loss to the Texas A&M Aggies, but things have just gotten progressively worse as the week wears on. Due to an outbreak of the novel coronavirus on the University of Florida’s football team, this weekend’s game with the LSU Tigers has been postponed until Dec. 12.

Our top story is tangential to the bad news, as head coach Dan Mullen refuses to admit he was wrong about his comments about “pack(ing) The Swamp” against LSU. What Mullen either doesn’t understand or can’t bring himself to admit publicly is that the problem isn’t who he offended, since that would actually be nobody.

Also in the Southeastern Conference, Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban and athletic director Greg Byrne both tested positive for COVID-19. Saban, 68, is not experiencing any symptoms of the coronavirus, he said in a statement.

Finally, Nick Saban, the Florida Gators and the rest of the SEC have one opponent they cannot beat: COVID-19. The travesty of the 2020 college football season is now on full display.

BREAKING: Gators football game against LSU this Saturday postponed

The Gators have postponed their game against LSU this weekend according to athletic director Scott Stricklin after a team COVID-19 outbreak.

Florida’s fourth game of the season against LSU has been postponed following an increase in positive tests over the last few days, UF Athletic Director Scott Stricklin told the media on Wednesday.

Stricklin said there are now 21 positive cases on the team, 18 of which are scholarship players. This puts the team at below 50 scholarship players available, and the SEC requires 53 in order to play.

The game is tentatively rescheduled for Saturday, Dec. 12.

He said that the program suspects that the root of the outbreak was last weekend’s trip to College Station, Tex. However, he mentioned that several players also failed to report symptoms last week, though he said he didn’t believe the lack of reporting was done intentionally to cover-up COVID symptoms.

He said the team’s head trainer reached out to him Monday morning to let him know that a number of players had called him the night before to report symptoms, though the team was still awaiting test results on those players at the time.

There is currently no timetable for the team to resume football operations. Stricklin said the pause will be “indefinite.”

However, he also said the SEC was prepared for this possibility, and the league set up its schedule with accommodating these situations in mind.

It has happened every week so far and will likely continue all season long but on Sunday night we found out there will be a top ten team in the country suddenly not having a game on Saturday.

No. 7 Oklahoma State and Baylor will not play as scheduled this weekend, per a release from the Big 12 Conference.

This will be the third time already this season that Baylor has had a game postponed while it’s the first time it has happened to the 3-0 and seventh ranked Cowboys.

Based off the wording of the release it would appear if Oklahoma State has already qualified for the conference championship game that this game against Baylor would not be played.

Report: Chiefs vs. Bills Thursday night game in Week 6 could be postponed

When the Bills and Titans play their Week 5 game could be the determining factor.

The Kansas City Chiefs could have two games delayed as a result of COVID-19 before we get through the first half of the season.

After another player for the Tennessee Titans tested positive for COVID-19, the NFL is scrambling to try and find a way for the Titans and Buffalo Bills to play their Week 5 game. According to ESPN’s Dianna Russini, one option that has been relayed to both Bills and Titans players is that their Week 5 game, scheduled for Sunday, would be moved to Monday or Tuesday night.

As a result of that delay, the Week 6 “Thursday Night Football” game between the Chiefs and the Bills would be moved to Saturday.

Right now, all options are on the table for the NFL and it seems like moving the Chiefs vs. Bills game might be the most logical choice. The Titans don’t have any remaining bye weeks after the postponement of last week’s game with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

What’s abundantly clear is that the NFL is intent on having Tennessee and Buffalo play their Week 5 game. That determination by the league is good for Kansas City too. If the Week 5 game between the Bills and Titans were canceled, they’d see the Bills off a bye week on Thursday night, playing three games in 11 days.

Obviously, the NFL still is at the will of the virus on this one. They need the Titans to have consecutive days without positive test results before they’re allowed to reopen their facilities for practice. The key here will be to monitor the test results for Tennessee over the next two days.

The excitement in the air is steadily rising as we near the end of the week and the beginning of Southeastern Conference football in 2020 despite the novel coronavirus pandemic. With the countdown now easily done in hours, we prepare ourselves for another season of our beloved Florida Gators.

USA TODAY Sports welcomes back SEC gridiron action with their staff picks for Week 4 of college football. All six contributors to the article selected the Gators to win this Saturday against the Ole Miss Rebels.

Also in the conference, Dan Wolken published an opinion yesterday afternoon that suggests that the SEC has been too tight-lipped about COVID-19 data and the real cost of a successful football season. The league is rolling some very big dice on its 10-game, conference-only schedule.

In other news from around the state, another Florida Atlantic football game postponed over COVID-19 concerns at South Florida. This postponement means FAU’s first four games have been canceled or postponed — at Minnesota, vs. Stony Brook, at  Georgia Southern, and vs. USF.

Notre Dame’s most recent opponent now also cancels Saturday game

Just one day after Notre Dame postponed their game at Wake Forest this weekend, the most recent opponent of the Irish has now called off.

After playing at Notre Dame this past weekend South Florida has decided to postpone their weekend affair at Florida Atlantic.

Notre Dame’s football team is dealing with their own COVID-19 outbreak as the Irish and Wake Forest cancelled their game for this Saturday.

Now Notre Dame’s most recent opponent has also postponed their game as South Florida won’t take the field against Florida Atlantic on Saturday, a decision that was made as a joint agreement between the schools.

Here is the full release from South Florida:

The interesting part here is that it doesn’t involve any positive tests by South Florida players but instead it cites the contact tracing being based on the fact Notre Dame has had a recent outbreak.

Based on what we know it certainly feels like a matter of when and not if positive tests are going to come back for players on South Florida’s roster.

Here’s to hoping I’m wrong on that but it certainly feels like it’s headed that way.

Notre Dame and Wake Forest postponed for this Saturday

Notre Dame’s football team has been hit hard by COVID-19 forcing the postponement of Saturday’s scheduled game at Wake Forest.

Earlier today we found out via Pete Thamel that Notre Dame was cancelling their Tuesday practice due to an outbreak of COVID-19 with the team.  Monday saw the University announce that four players had tested positive in the most recent round of testing and Brian Kelly was very adamant about players wearing masks and making smart decisions during his post game speech to the team Saturday.

Per the University of Notre Dame Athletic Department the schools are yet to officially decide on a rescheduled date.

The following is the official release from Notre Dame Athletics on Tuesday afternoon:

Notre Dame Football Game at Wake Forest Postponed

NOTRE DAME, Indiana — A total of 94 COVID-19 tests were administered to Notre Dame Football student-athletes on Monday. Of those 94, there were seven positive tests, according to University Physician Dr. Matt Leiszler. Those seven student-athletes are in isolation and their close contacts have been/are being identified.

In consultation with the St. Joseph County Department of Health, the Notre Dame Football program has decided to pause all football-related activities until further testing is completed. Combined with last week’s testing results, a total of 13 players are currently in isolation, with 10 in quarantine.

The ACC and Wake Forest have been notified, and the process of rescheduling the game originally slated for Sept. 26 is underway.

“With student-athlete health and safety our primary focus, we will continue to follow our prevention protocols and ongoing testing procedures,” said Dick Corbett Head Football Coach Brian Kelly. “We managed an increase in positivity rates in August, and the players handled it wonderfully.

“We knew COVID would present challenges throughout the season, and we’ll always put student-athlete health and safety at the forefront of our decision making. We look forward to resuming team activities and getting back on the playing field.”

13 players being in isolation is currently an eye-popping number and ten more being in quarantine clearly doesn’t help measures.  Here’s to hoping nothing overly serious comes of any of these cases.
