4 players to watch for Chiefs in HBCU Legacy Bowl

Our @goldmctNFL has four players to watch for the #Chiefs during the 2023 HBCU Legacy Bowl on Saturday.

The second annual HBCU Legacy Bowl is set to be played on Saturday afternoon. The best-of-the-best draft-eligible players from Historically Black Colleges and Universities were in New Orleans this week for two events starting with the HBCU Combine. On Saturday, those players will appear in an All-Star game with another opportunity for a showcase in front of NFL scouts and decision-makers.

Last year the Kansas City Chiefs found a gem in fourth-round draft pick, Joshua Williams, out of Fayetteville State. Could there be another gem from an HBCU found in this year’s class?

Below are four players that we’ll be keeping an eye on for Kansas City during the course of the game:

LSU Basketball at Ole Miss: Broadcast info, betting odds, injury report as Tigers search for 2nd-straight win

Here’s what you need to know as the Tigers try to take down an Ole Miss team that fired coach Kermit Davis on Friday.

The LSU basketball team finally got over the hump on Wednesday night, ending a 14-game losing streak against a Vanderbilt team that entered as winners of its last five. The Tigers have a good chance to add another win on Saturday night when they travel to face a struggling Ole Miss team.

The Rebels sit at just 10-18 (2-13 SEC) on the year and has lost its last four games. On Friday, Ole Miss fired head coach Kermit Davis, effective immediately, and the team will be led by assistant Win Case in the interim.

LSU coach Matt McMahon has had a tough first season in Baton Rouge, and their aren’t really any postseason hopes in sight. Still, this team has the chance to end the year with some momentum, and that starts against the Rebels on Saturday night in Oxford at the SJB Pavilion on Saturday night.

Here’s everything you need to know to follow that game, including the latest odds from BetMGM.

How to watch No. 5 LSU women’s basketball at Vanderbilt on Thursday night

The Tigers hope to extend their winning streak to three in Nashville.

LSU’s women’s basketball team has responded well since a frustrating road loss to No. 1 South Carolina spoiled its perfect start.

The No. 5 Tigers (25-1, 13-1 SEC) have won their last two games against Ole Miss and Florida by a combined 20 points. Now, they have a chance to clinch the No. 2 seed in the SEC Tournament — as well as match the best regular-season finish in program history — as they enter the final week of the season.

But to do so, the Tigers need to win their final two games against Vanderbilt and Mississippi State. First up, they’ll draw the Commodores on Thursday night in Nashville.

Vandy (12-16, 3-11 SEC) has struggled this season and lost by 25 points to LSU back on Jan. 1, but the ‘Dores have been playing a bit better recently. They’ve won two of their last four, including a 22-point win over Kentucky on Sunday.

“They are playing at home, and they are playing good,” coach [autotag]Kim Mulkey[/autotag] said in a release. “They are playing confident right now.”

LSU will look to keep up its winning ways on Thursday night and avoid adding a second tick in the loss column. Here’s everything you need to know to follow this one, which tips off at 6:30 p.m. CT at Memorial Gymnasium in Nashville.

No. 1 LSU vs. Southern: How to watch, stream, preview for first baseball midweek contest on Tuesday

The Tigers return to The Box on Tuesday afternoon to take on Southern.

The preseason No. 1 Tigers baseball team impressed in its opening series over the weekend, sweeping Western Michigan by a combined score of 24-5 to begin the season 3-0.

LSU will be back in action at Alex Box Stadium on Tuesday night for its first midweek contest of the season against the Southern Jaguars. [autotag]Thatcher Hurd[/autotag], a transfer from UCLA, is set to get the start on the mound in what will be his first appearance with the Tigers.

Southern is also 3-0 after winning each of its contests at the Cactus Jack HBCU Classic against Jackson State (5-4), Grambling (4-3) and Texas Southern (11-1, seven innings). LSU holds a 58-3 all-time record against Southern with the last loss coming in 2019. The Tigers won both games in this series last year.

“I thought the entire (season-opening) weekend (vs. Western Michigan) was great, a really good model for what we want to establish going forward,” coach [autotag]Jay Johnson[/autotag] said in a release. “We had really good starting pitching, really good defense and we were excellent in situational hitting. I really liked the amount of guys that contributed to winning as well. We’re looking forward to facing a very good Southern team that played extremely well over the weekend. We’d love to see a big Mardi Gras crowd at ‘The Box’ on Tuesday.”

Here’s everything you need to know to follow Tuesday night’s game.

How to watch No. 5 LSU women’s basketball vs. Ole Miss on Thursday night

Here’s everything you need to know as the Tigers return home following the loss to South Carolina.

The Tigers’ perfect, 23-0 start to the season came to an end on Sunday night when they ran into the meat-grinder that is the top-ranked, defending national champion South Carolina Gamecocks.

Though the 88-64 loss was certainly disappointing and less competitive than now No. 5 LSU (23-1, 11-1 SEC) hoped, coach [autotag]Kim Mulkey[/autotag] put it best herself after the game when she said this sport is South Carolina and then everyone else at the moment. The Tigers still remain in range for a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament, though they may need to win a rematch against the Gamecocks in the SEC Tournament.

Next up for LSU is a home matchup against an Ole Miss (20-5, 9-3 SEC) team that certainly is no slouch. The Rebels are coming off a 22-point win over Kentucky and have won four of their last five. Here’s everything you need to know to follow the game.

How to watch No. 3 LSU women’s basketball vs. No. 1 South Carolina on Sunday

All eyes will be on Kim Mulkey’s squad as it looks to pull the upset in the women’s college basketball regular season game of the year.

The LSU women’s basketball team will put its program-best 23-0 start on the line Sunday afternoon when Kim Mulkey’s squad hits the road for the biggest matchup of the entire season.

The No. 3 Tigers face off against the defending national champion South Carolina Gamecocks, who sit at 24-0 on the season and rank No. 1 in the nation. Dawn Staley’s team hasn’t lost a game in nearly a calendar year dating back to last season’s SEC Championship against Kentucky.

LSU has national title hopes this season under Mulkey, and with a win, it would almost certainly take over the No. 1 spot and may become the favorite heading into the tournament. Here’s everything you need to know to watch this game, which tips off at 1 p.m. CT at Colonial Life Arena in Columbia, South Carolina.

LSU Basketball vs. Texas A&M: Broadcast info, betting odds, injury report for Tigers’ Saturday contest

The Tigers will look to avenge a 13-point road loss from Jan. 7.

The Tigers will take the court on Saturday with yet another shot to end one of the most frustrating stretches of basketball in the program’s recent memory.

LSU has lost 11 straight in Year 1 under coach [autotag]Matt McMahon[/autotag] and is still searching for its first win in 2023. The 12-12 (1-10 SEC) Tigers return home Saturday after a loss at Mississippi State on Wednesday night, but Saturday’s game won’t be any easier.

Texas A&M (17-7, 9-2 SEC) comes to the PMAC for a 7:30 p.m. CT tip looking to maintain its second-place positioning in the league. The Aggies rank in the top 40 of the NET and beat LSU 69-56 when the two faced in College Station on Jan. 7.

TAMU has a lot to play for in this one. A bubble team, it currently occupies a spot in the Last Four In, according to ESPN bracketologist Joe Lunardi. A loss at LSU would drop the Aggies out of the projected field.

Here’s everything you need to know to follow this one, including the latest betting odds from BetMGM.

ESPN calls Harold Perkins a defensive player to watch in 2023

Perkins will enter 2023 with high expectations after a fantastic true freshman campaign.

There weren’t many bigger surprises in college football this season than the emergence of linebacker [autotag]Harold Perkins[/autotag] for LSU.

The true freshman was a five-star recruit and a top-five overall prospect, so he was certainly expected to develop into a great player. But with 72 tackles (13 for loss) and 7.5 sacks — the latter two led the team — Perkins was an immediate impact player despite being a bit rough around the edges and limited to contributing in the pass rush.

If he can improve other aspects of his game, notably fitting the run as an off-ball linebacker — he could become one of the most dominant players to watch in college football. In ESPN’s preview of players to watch in the 2023 season, Alex Scarborough mentioned Perkins as one to keep an eye on defensively.

It took Harold Perkins Jr. a while to show up, but that’s OK. Because once he did, he flashed Will Anderson Jr. type ability at outside linebacker for LSU, practically living in the backfield of opposing offenses. During his final seven games, the true freshman racked up 11 tackles for loss, six sacks and four forced fumbles. If he can create that kind of chaos throughout an entire season, he could be the best defensive player in college football this year.

Bill Connelly also mentioned Perkins as a potential dark-horse candidate for overall player of the year.

Perkins has big shoes to fill entering his sophomore season, and he will be asked to do a lot more. But if his first season was any indication, he’ll be up for the challenge.
