Player grades: Mikal Bridges scores 19 as Nets lose to Wizards 110-104

Here are your Nets player grades following Friday’s 110-104 loss to the Washington Wizards.

The Brooklyn Nets visited Capital One Arena on Friday to face the Washington Wizards for the third time this season and lost 110-104.

For the Nets, Mikal Bridges had 19 points and five rebounds and Spencer Dinwiddie had 17 points, eight rebounds, and six assists. Cam Johnson had 16 points and Cam Thomas had 15 points off the bench.

For the Wizards, Kyle Kuzma had 26 points and eight rebounds while Deni Avdija had 21 points, 13 rebounds, and six assists. Corey Kispert had 15 points off the bench and Tyus Jones had 12 points.

In the first half, it was a back-and-forth affair as the Wizards were able to keep up with the Nets offensively thanks to some great shooting from Kyle Kuzma and Deni Avdija. Somehow, the Nets were still in this game despite shooting 26.7% from behind the three-point line and 53.8% from the free-throw line.

In the second half, it remained a back-and-forth kind of game throughout the third quarter as neither team could pull away from the other because of neither team playing much defense. In the fourth quarter, things turned on its head as the Nets collapsed down the stretch of the period and missed 12 of their last 13 shots in seemingly embarrassing fashion.

Player grades: Jalen Wilson drops 21 as Nets lose to Bucks 144-122

Here are the Nets player grades following Wednesday’s 144-122 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks.

NEW YORK — The Brooklyn Nets hosted the Milwaukee Bucks at Barclays Center on Wednesday for the second leg of a back-to-back and lost 144-122.

For the Nets, Jalen Wilson had 21 points and 10 rebounds while Trendon Watford had 17 points and five rebounds. Dennis Smith Jr. had 14 points and Noah Clowney had 14 points.

For the Bucks, Giannis Antetokounmpo had 32 points, 10 rebounds, and eight assists while Khris Middleton had 27 points and 10 assists. Cameron Payne had 18 points off the bench and Malik Beasley had 17 points.

In the first half, Mikal Bridges combined for 14 points in the first quarter to get the Nets off to a good start of being competitive with the juggernaut Bucks. However, once the second quarter came, Thomas and Bridges sat for the night to allow players like Jalen Wilson and Noah Clowney to get some valuable NBA experience.

In the second half, some of the younger players for the Nets, led by Smith, were able to give the Bucks a legitimate battle in the third quarter thanks to some outstanding play out of Smith and Wilson. However, in the fourth quarter, the Bucks pulled away as Brooklyn’s younger player struggled to keep up with Milwaukee’s starting unit for the entire time.

Player grades: Cam Johnson scores 24 as Nets beat Pistons 118-112

Here are your Nets player grades for Tuesday’s 118-112 win over the Detroit Pistons.

The Brooklyn Nets visited Little Caesars Arena on Tuesday to face the Detroit Pistons for the second time in four days and won 118-112.

For the Nets, Cam Johnson had 24 points and two rebounds while Mikal Bridges had 21 points and four rebounds. Cam Thomas had 17 points and Nic Claxton had 11 points.

For the Pistons, Cade Cunningham had 41 points and nine rebounds while Bojan Bogdanovic had 23 points and three rebounds. Alec Burks had 15 points and Jalen Duren had 12 points.

In the first half, the Pistons surprised the Nets from the beginning by going up 22-8 with 5:49 left in the first quarter as their best attempt of avoiding losing a 27th straight game. However, Brooklyn was able to get back into the game thanks to the efforts of Dorian Finney-Smith, Dennis Smith Jr., and Royce O’Neale off the bench.

In the second half, the Pistons were able to get back into the game thanks to some outstanding play from Cunningham as he was seemingly doing everything possible to keep Detroit in the game. In the end, the Pistons could not stop Johnson or Day’Ron Sharpe enough to get the lead and the Nets closed things out with free-throws.

Player grades: Mikal Bridges scores 29 as Nets beat Pistons 126-115

Here are the Brooklyn Nets player grades following Saturday’s 126-115 win over the Detroit Pistons.

NEW YORK — The Brooklyn Nets welcomed the Detroit Pistons to Barclays Center on Saturday for the second leg of a back-to-back and won 126-115.

For the Nets, Mikal Bridges had 29 points and seven assists while Cam Thomas had 20 points and three assists. Cam Johnson had 18 points and Spencer Dinwiddie had 14 points.

For the Pistons, Jaden Ivey had 23 points and seven assists while Cade Cunningham had 22 points and six assists. Isaiah Stewart had 20 points and Bogdan Bogdanovic had 19 points.

In the first half, the Pistons stormed out to a 6-0 lead to begin the first quarter, but after that, the Nets woke up and started playing the way that they were expected to heading into this contest. In the second quarter, Detroit actually won the period 35-33, but they went into halftime trailing the Nets 65-56 with Mikal Bridges putting up 19 points and five assists.

In the second half, the game was still closely contested between the Nets and the Pistons, but with the lead that Brooklyn built in the first half, Detroit wasn’t able to make much of a dent in the deficit. The Nets continued to get good play out of Bridges and Thomas and that allowed them to finish the win in style while giving some of the younger players playing time.

Here are your Nets player grades following Friday’s 122-117 loss to the Denver Nuggets.

NEW YORK — The Brooklyn Nets hosted the Denver Nuggets at Barclays Center on Friday and lost 122-117.

For the Nets, Cam Thomas had 23 points and two assists while Cam Johnson had 17 points and two assists. Mikal Bridges had 14 points and Dorian Finney-Smith had 14 points off the bench.

For the Nuggets, Jamal Murray had 32 points and nine assists while Nikola Jokic had 31 points, 11 rebounds, and seven assists. Aaron Gordon had 18 points and Michael Porter Jr. had 15 points.

In the first half, both teams played to a standstill as Brooklyn finally started looking like themselves on the offensive end of the floor. While the defense could be better, the Nets gave more effort on that end and that allowed them to give the Nuggets some problems.

In the second half, it was more of the same as the Nets came to play and did not let the game get away from them in the third quarter like what has happened in some of their recent games. In the end, Brooklyn could not rebound a free-throw miss from Murray and that sealed the Nets’ fate despite such good play down the stretch.

Here are the Brooklyn Nets player grades following Wednesday’s 121-102 loss to the New York Knicks in the Battle of the Boroughs.

NEW YORK — The Brooklyn Nets welcomed the New York Knicks to Barclays Center on Wednesday in the Battle of the Boroughs and lost 121-102.

For the Nets, Cam Johnson had 20 points and four rebounds while Cam Thomas had 20 points and five assists. Mikal Bridges had 15 points and Spencer Dinwiddie had 10 points.

For the Knicks, Julius Randle had 26 points and seven rebounds while Donte DiVincenzo had 23 points and eight rebounds. Immanuel Quickley had 19 points off the bench and Jalen Brunson had 16 points.

In the first half, it was a tale of two quarters for the Nets as nothing went right for them in the first quarter before they turned things around in the second quarter. Even though the Knicks had just two centers in Isaiah Hartenstein and Taj Gibson, the Nets struggled with the physicality of Julius Randle. Brooklyn turned things around in the second period and it seems that they started waking up by closing the first half down 60-51.

In the second half, the Nets managed to get within nine points in the third quarter and after that, the bottom fell out for them. Brooklyn looked like they did in the beginning of the game where they couldn’t find anything consistent on either end of the floor and this game became a absolute blowout in the fourth quarter.

Player grades: Cam Thomas drops 32 as Nets lose to Jazz 125-108

Here are the Nets player grades following Monday’s 125-108 loss to the Utah Jazz.

The Brooklyn Nets visited Delta Center on Monday to take on the Utah Jazz and lost 125-108 in a disappointing fashion.

For the Nets, Cam Thomas had 32 points and four rebounds and Spencer Dinwiddie had 17 points and 11 assists. Mikal Bridges had 13 points and Nic Claxton had 11 points.

For the Jazz, Talen Horton-Tucker had 27 points and six assists while Collin Sexton had 27 points and three rebounds. Lauri Markkanen had 20 points and Walker Kessler had 14 points.

In the first half, both teams played evenly as the referees let the players play with some physical play from both sides. The Nets were able to get the slight edge in the second quarter thanks to the play of Cam Thomas and Spencer Dinwiddie.

In the second half, Brooklyn was competitive with Utah for the first half of the third quarter, but after that, matters changed on its head. Starting with the second half of the third period, the Jazz ran away with the game as the Nets could not buy a bucket and could not stop Utah no matter what they tried on that end.

Here are the Brooklyn Nets player grades following Saturday’s 124-120 loss to the Golden State Warriors.

The Brooklyn Nets visited Chase Center on Saturday to face the Golden State Warriors and lost 124-120.

For the Nets, Cam Thomas had 41 points and five rebounds while Nic Claxton had 19 points and 12 rebounds. Mikal Bridges had 18 points and Spencer Dinwiddie had 16 points.

For the Warriors, Stephen Curry had 37 points and three blocks while Klay Thompson had 24 points and five rebounds. Brandin Podziemski had 19 points and Andrew Wiggins had 14 points off the bench.

In the first half, the Nets put up a better fight in this one than they did the other night against the Denver Nuggets, but the result at halftime seemed to be the same. Brooklyn could not find an answer for the Warriors offensively as they allowed Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Dario Saric to combine for 42 points in the half.

In the second half, Brooklyn put up a much better fight as they used the third quarter to get back into the game thanks to Thomas continuing his super-scoring ways. In the end, Curry and Thompson did their latest edition of the Splash Bros show and the Nets were the victims of the shooting display.

Here are your Nets player grades for Thursday’s 124-101 loss to the Denver Nuggets.

The Brooklyn Nets visited Ball Arena on Thursday on the second end of a back-to-back to take on the Denver Nuggets and lost 124-101.

For the Nets, Spencer Dinwiddie had 17 points and eight assists while Cam Thomas had 13 points and three rebounds. Harry Giles III had 11 points off the bench and Cam Johnson had 10 points.

For the Nuggets, Nikola Jokic had 26 points, 15 rebounds, and 10 assists while Jamal Murray had 16 points and three steals. Peyton Watson had 18 points off the bench and Aaron Gordon had 13 points.

In the first half, the Nets hung around with the Nuggets in the first quarter thanks to some timely offense from players like Cam Thomas and Mikal Bridges. The second half was when Denver brought things open as Brooklyn shooting percentages dropped off a cliff and could not keep up with the Nuggets in terms of scoring points.

In the second half, this game became a blowout early in the third quarter as it was clear that the Nets did not have the legs to keep pace with the Nuggets and just couldn’t string together good offensive possessions. Brooklyn head coach Jacque Vaughn waved the white flag to start the fourth quarter as the Nets will play again on Saturday.

Here are your Brooklyn Nets player grades following Wednesday’s 116-112 win over the Phoenix Suns.

The Brooklyn Nets visited the Footprint Center on Wednesday to battle the Phoenix Suns and won 116-112.

For the Nets, Cam Thomas had 24 points and four assists while Mikal Bridges had 21 points and three rebounds. Spencer Dinwiddie had 16 points and Cam Johnson had 15 points.

For the Suns, Devin Booker had 34 points and 12 assists while Kevin Durant had 27 points and six rebounds. Jusuf Nurkic had 15 points and Bradley Beal had 14 points.

In the first half, the Nets had a slow start to the game as they were missing some shots that they normally make, especially within the flow of their normal offense. The Suns’ big three had a solid first half together as they combined for 36 points on 12-of-22 shooting from the field, including 17 points from Booker.

In the second half, the Suns came out playing like they did in the second quarter to get back into the game, but in the third, they outscored the Nets 32-22 thanks to some superb playing by Booker. In the fourth quarter, Brooklyn turned things around thanks to some clutch plays from Thomas, Bridges, and Dinwiddie.
