The Pittsburgh Penguins (12-7-4) host the Calgary Flames (11-12-3) Monday at PPG Paints Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. We analyze the Flames-Penguins sports betting odds and lines, while providing NHL betting tips and picks around this matchup.

Flames at Penguins: Projected starting goalies

David Rittich vs. Matt Murray

Rittich is coming off a 36-save victory over the Philadelphia Flyers Saturday. He is 10-7-3 through 20 starts with a .911 save percentage and 2.80 goals against average. He has two shutouts and has played a league-high 1,202 minutes.

Prediction

Penguins 5, Flames 2

Moneyline (ML)

Penguins C Kris Letang (lower body) is expected to be a game-time decision Monday; C Sidney Crosby (groin) remains sidelined. Flames RW Sam Bennett (upper body) remains out and D T.J. Brodie (undisclosed) will be a GTD.

The PENGUINS (-161) are 8-3-2 on home ice and rank second in the NHL with a plus-18 goal differential. The Flames (+135) are 5-9-1 on the road with a minus-15 goal differential for the season. Both teams are coming off victories; the Penguins beat the New Jersey Devils 4-1 Friday and the Flames dropped the Flyers 3-2 in a shootout Saturday. The Penguins take this one at home.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Penguins to win in regulation, overtime or a shootout returns a profit of $6.20.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The Flames enter Monday at 10-16 against the spread overall and 6-9 ATS on the road. The Pens are 11-12 ATS overall and 5-8 at home. Each of Pittsburgh’s last two wins and four of its last six came by margins of at least two goals. The Flames were shut out in three of their last five, with all three of those losses decided by at least three goals.

Back PITTSBURGH (-1.5, +165) to win by at least a two-goal margin and turn the same $10 wager into a profit of $16.50.

Over/Under (O/U)

The Flames are a woeful 2-8 against the Over/Under across their last 10 games. The Penguins were 5-5 against the projected totals over the same span. Buck the trend and take the OVER 5.5 (-143) with both sides expected to have some key reinforcements return to the lineup.

New Jersey Devils at Pittsburgh Penguins odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Friday’s New Jersey Devils at Pittsburgh Penguins sports betting odds and lines, with NHL betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Pittsburgh Penguins (11-7-4) entertain the division rival New Jersey Devils (7-9-4) at PPG Paints Arena Friday at 7 p.m. ET. We analyze the Devils-Penguins odds and lines while providing NHL betting tips around this matchup.

Devils at Penguins: Projected starting goalies

MacKenzie Blackwood vs. Tristan Jarry

Blackwood is expected to start again for the Devils. He is 7-5-3 with a 2.95 goals against average and .899 save percentage. Blackwood took the home loss Tuesday against Boston after allowing five goals on just 28 shots.

Jarry is projected to get the start Friday in New Jersey. He has a 2-3 record for Pittsburgh with a 1.98 GAA and .938 SV%. Jarry has looked great in his backup role and came up clutch against Toronto last week while turning away 32 of 33 shots in a win.

Prediction

Penguins 3, Devils 2

Moneyline (ML)

The PENGUINS (-189) are dealing with far more injuries than the Devils. They are without C Sidney Crosby, D Kris Letang, plus F Nick Bjugstad — just to name a few of the injured. Despite this, they nearly beat the New York Islanders Thursday night. It is anyone’s guess as to how New Jersey comes out after their poor performance at home against the Boston Bruins.

It will be a back and forth contest but Pittsburgh ultimately wins this one late.

A $10 bet with Pittsburgh results in a $5.29 profit with an outright win for the Penguins.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The Devils are 7-13 against the spread which is dead last in the entire NHL. Their style of play typically is the culprit. Also, the Penguins are so banged up that expecting them to win by two or more goals is a lot to ask for. AVOID.

Over/Under (O/U)

The UNDER 5.5 (+125) is a bit of a risky play but considering the two teams combined for just three goals last week in their first meeting, it’s the right move. Usually, New Jersey hits the Over in Pittsburgh but with both sides a bit down offensively, it is worth a shot.

Placing a $10 bet here will give a bettor a decent $12.50 profit with a total of five or fewer goals scored.

Penguins-Islanders odds, picks and best bets

Previewing the Pittsburgh Penguins at New York Islanders sports betting odds, with NHL matchup analysis, picks and tips.

The scorching-hot New York Islanders (15-3-1) host the Metropolitan Division-rival Pittsburgh Penguins (11-7-3) Thursday at Barclays Center. The puck is scheduled to drop shortly after 7 p.m. ET. We analyze the Penguins-Islanders odds and lines, while providing NHL betting tips and picks around this matchup.

Penguins at Islanders: Projected starting goalies

Matt Murray vs. Thomas Greiss

Murray has dropped each of his last three decisions, though two of those were in overtime. He allowed a total of 10 goals over the stretch while facing more than 27 shots on goal just once. He has a .910 save percentage and a 2.52 goals against average on the season.

Greiss has won seven straight starts dating back to Oct. 11. He is 8-1-0 through nine starts and a relief appearance with a 1.98 GAA and a league-best .938 SV%. He has allowed more than two goals in just two starts.

Prediction

Islanders 4, Penguins 3

Moneyline (ML)

This rematch comes on the heels of a 5-4 overtime road victory for New York Tuesday which evened the season series between the two. The Islanders, second in the Metro Division, are 9-2-1 at home. They haven’t lost in regulation since falling 5-2 to the Carolina Hurricanes Oct. 11. They’ve lost in overtime just once in their last 15 games. The Penguins sit fourth in the division and come into Thursday with a 4-4-1 road record.

Pittsburgh remains without C Sidney Crosby (groin), C Nick Bjugstad (undisclosed), D Kris Letang (lower body) and now D Justin Schultz (undisclosed). The ISLANDERS (-143) will get this one done in regulation.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Isles to win outright in regulation, overtime or a shootout returns a profit of $7.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The spread is a much tougher call, as the Islanders are only 6-6 against the spread at home despite the near-perfect moneyline record. Six of New York’s last seven games were decided by single tallies, including Tuesday’s win over the Penguins.

Back PITTSBURGH (+1.5, -239) to keep this one within a goal in a loss, or win outright. The Pens are 5-4 on the puck line as visitors.

Over/Under (O/U)

The juice is on the OVER 5.5 (-121) after Tuesday’s game saw the two teams combine for nine total goals. It’s our play with the Islanders 7-3 against the Over/Under across their last 10 games.

Islanders-Penguin odds: Crosby-less Pittsburgh favored at home

Previewing Tuesday’s New York Islanders at Pittsburgh Penguins sports betting odds and lines, with NHL matchup analysis, picks and tips.

The injury-ravaged Pittsburgh Penguins (11-7-2) host the New York Islanders (14-3-1) Tuesday at PPG Paints Arena. The puck is scheduled to drop shortly after 7 p.m. ET. We analyze the Islanders-Penguins odds and lines, while providing NHL betting tips and picks around this matchup.

Islanders at Penguins: Projected starting goalies

Semyon Varlamov vs. Matt Murray

Varlamov allowed four goals in each of his last two outings but still went 1-0-1 to pick up three points. He is 6-2-1 through nine starts while splitting time with Thomas Greiss. He has a .917 save percentage and a 2.56 goals against average.

Murray is 9-4-2 through 16 games played (all starts) with a .913 SV% and a 2.37 GAA. He stopped 19 of 21 shots in a loss against the New Jersey Devils his last time out.

Islanders at Penguins: Odds, picks and betting tips

Odds courtesy of BetMGM; access them at USA TODAY Sports for a full set of today’s betting odds. Odds last updated at 1:10 p.m. ET.

Prediction

Islanders 3, Penguins 2

Moneyline (ML)

The ISLANDERS (+110) are winners of three straight and 13 of their last 14. They’re 5-1-0 on the road and are plus-16 (58-42) overall in goal differential. The Penguins have lost two of their last three and four of their last seven, but they beat the Toronto Maple Leafs 6-1 at home Saturday. They have a goal differential of plus-17 (67-50).

Pittsburgh won the first meeting of the year between the two Metropolitan Division rivals, but it was with a healthier roster. C Sidney Crosby (groin) and D Kris Letang (lower body) are out of the lineup Tuesday. Take the visitors and turn a profit of $11 on a $10 bet.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

Four of the Penguins’ last five games were each decided by single goals with three of them going to extra time (overtime or a shootout). Seven of the ISLANDERS’ (+1.5, -250) last 13 victories and their one loss in that time were each by single goals. These two teams play tight games and will square up again Thursday in a quick rematch.

New York is 10-8 against the spread overall and 4-2 as the road team. Pittsburgh is 9-11 overall and 4-7 at home. The moneyline is far more profitable for the Isles, but the puck line is a safer play.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Islanders to win outright or lose by no more than a goal will return a profit of $4.

Over/Under (O/U)

Take the UNDER (5.5, -106). The Islanders are 7-3 against the Over/Under across their last 10 games with the Penguins 4-6 in the same span. Murray should be able to slow the New York offense with the Islanders well-equipped to limit the offensive output of the Pens without Crosby.

Esten’s NHL betting record: 56-56

Maple Leafs-Penguins odds: Pittsburgh favored at home

Previewing the Toronto Maple Leafs at Pittsburgh Penguins sports betting odds and lines, with NHL matchup analysis and picks.

The Pittsburgh Penguins (10-7-2) entertain the Toronto Maple Leafs (9-8-4) at PPG Paints Arena Saturday at 7 p.m. ET. We analyze the Maple Leafs-Penguins odds and lines, while providing NHL betting tips around this matchup.

Maple Leafs at Penguins: Projected starting goalies

Kasimir Kaskisuo vs. Tristan Jarry

Kaskisuo is confirmed to get the start Saturday in Pittsburgh. This is his NHL debut for Toronto. He has a 6-1-1 record for Toronto with a 2.13 goals against average and .928 save percentage for the Toronto Marlies of the AHL.

Jarry is expected to start for the Penguins. He is 1-3 with a 2.26 GAA and .929 SV%. Jarry took the loss (two goals on 14 shots) in his last appearance after Matt Murray got a quick hook in Boston. He has three quality starts in four outings.

Odds courtesy of BetMGM; access them at USA TODAY Sports for a full set of today’s betting odds. Odds last updated at 10:15 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Penguins 3, Maple Leafs 2

Moneyline (ML)

The PENGUINS (-115) are dealing with new line combinations due to injuries but defensively are playing better at home where they yield just 2.2 goals per game. Toronto may benefit from a little more defense being played which should keep them in this game.

It will be a somewhat slower-paced game at times because both teams played last night but Pittsburgh should squeeze out a win.

A $10 bet with Pittsburgh results in an $8.70 profit with a Penguins’ win.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

Both teams are notoriously bad against the spread this year. Toronto is 8-13 and Pittsburgh is 7-12. AVOID.

Over/Under (O/U)

The UNDER 6.5 (-139) is a reasonable play Saturday night. That 6.5 number is rather high given both teams were in high-event games Friday. Pittsburgh pushed play particularly hard in the third period and was nearly rewarded (over 30 shot attempts alone). The result should mean five or six goals combined perhaps.

Placing a $10 bet here will give a bettor a decent $7.19 profit with a total of six or more goals scored.

Penguins-Devils odds: Banged-up Penguins still road favorites

Previewing Friday’s Pittsburgh Penguins at New Jersey Devils sports betting odds and lines, with NHL matchup analysis and picks.

The Pittsburgh Penguins (10-6-2) travel to Newark to face the division rival New Jersey Devils (5-8-4) at Prudential Center Friday at 7 p.m. ET. We analyze the Penguins-Devils odds and lines while providing NHL betting tips around this matchup.

Penguins at Devils: Projected starting goalies

Matt Murray vs. MacKenzie Blackwood

Murray is projected to get the start Friday in New Jersey. He has a 9-3-2 record for Pittsburgh with a 2.39 goals against average and .914 save percentage. Murray has looked decent of late, allowing eight goals on his last 81 shots faced while winning two of his previous three starts.

Blackwood is confirmed to start again for the Devils. He is 5-4-3 with a 2.94 GAA and .895 save percentage. Blackwood took the home loss Wednesday against Ottawa after yielding three goals on 24 shots.

Penguins at Devils: Odds, picks and betting tips

Odds courtesy of BetMGM; access them at USA TODAY Sports for a full set of today’s betting odds. Odds last updated at 9:55 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Penguins 4, Devils 3

Moneyline (ML)

The PENGUINS (-139) are dealing with far more injuries than the Devils. They are without C Sidney Crosby and D Kris Letang, and yet, are still road favorites Friday night. New Jersey gives up 3.78 goals per game at home and has a porous penalty kill.

It will be a high-event and chaotic game but take the Penguins on the moneyline.

A $10 bet with Pittsburgh results in a $7.19 profit with a Penguins’ win.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The Devils are 5-12 against the spread which is dead last in the entire NHL. Part of the problem is their style of play which just does not lead to convincing victories. Most of their games are decided by one goal or include an empty-net tally. AVOID.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 5.5 (-154) is a safe play Friday night. That 5.5 number just makes for an easier bet with a little less profit. Do not overthink this one. There will be goals.

Placing a $10 bet here will give a bettor a decent $6.49 profit with a total of six or more goals scored.

Penguins-Rangers odds: NY Rangers slight dogs at MSG

Previewing Tuesday’s Pittsburgh Penguins at New York Rangers sports betting odds and lines, with NHL matchup analysis and picks.

The Pittsburgh Penguins (10-6-1) travel to Manhattan to face the New York Rangers (7-6-2) at Madison Square Garden Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. ET. We analyze the Penguins-Rangers odds and lines while providing NHL betting tips around this matchup.

Penguins at Rangers: Projected starting goalies

Matt Murray vs. Alexandar Georgiev

Murray has a 9-3-1 record so far with a 2.35 goals against average and .916 save percentage. He has won consecutive starts beyond regulation while stopping 49 of his last 54 shots faced.

Georgiev is confirmed to be in net after Henrik Lundqvist played Sunday. Georgiev is 3-3-1 with a 2.87 GAA and .913 save percentage. He seeks to bounce back tonight after getting shelled for six goals on 40 shots at home against the Ottawa Senators last Monday.

Penguins at Rangers: Odds, picks and betting tips

Odds courtesy of BetMGM; access them at USA TODAY Sports for a full set of today’s betting odds. Odds last updated Tuesday at 8:00 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Rangers 4, Penguins 3

Moneyline (ML)

The RANGERS (-106) are without C Mika Zibanejad (head) but Pittsburgh will be without C Sidney Crosby (lower body) for the next few games. That certainly levels the ice some. Also, New York not starting Lundqvist may be a benefit as Georgiev wants to show his last start was a fluke.

A $10 bet on New York results in a $9.43 profit with an outright win.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

Typically, when there is a very close moneyline, the spread is very divergent. If Pittsburgh was not the slightly favored team, there would be more enticement. However, that is not the case. AVOID.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 6.5 (+120) is worth a tiny bet Tuesday night as both teams will yield some goals. Pittsburgh allows 3.14 goals per game on the road while New York allows 3.6 per contest at home. The Rangers could lure the Penguins into a more high-event game than they bargained for.
