Pittsburgh at Virginia odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s Pittsburgh Panthers at Virginia Cavaliers sports betting odds and lines, with college basketball betting picks, tips and predictions.

The No. 15 Virginia Cavaliers (12-3, 8-1 ACC) host the Pittsburgh Panthers (9-5, 5-4 ACC) Saturday in the John Paul Jones Arena at 4 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Pittsburgh-Virginia college basketball odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Rankings courtesy of Ferris Mowers Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports.

Pittsburgh at Virginia: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 11:00 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Pittsburgh +425 (bet $100 to win $425) | Virginia -600 (bet $600 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Pittsburgh +9.5 (-105) | Virginia -9.5 (-115)
  • Over/Under: 126.5 (O: -115 | U: -105)

Pittsburgh at Virginia: Three things to know

  1. Pittsburgh snapped a three-game losing skid by upsetting No. 16 Virginia Tech 83-72 as 3.5-point home underdogs earlier this week. Panthers sophomore F Justin Champagnie is a contender for ACC Player of the Year as he leads the conference in points per game and rebounds per game and is second in player efficiency rating.
  2. Coincidentally, Virginia’s last loss came against No. 16 Virginia Tech Saturday when it got rolled 65-51, which ended a seven-game winning streak for the Cavaliers. But, Virginia got back on track in their last game by winning at NC State 64-57 and pushing as 7-point favorites.
  3. This has been a one-sided series since Pittsburgh joined the ACC in 2013 with Virginia being 9-1 overall and 7-2-1 ATS over that time span vs. the Panthers. The Cavaliers only won 59-56 and pushed as 3-point favorites, but their previous four wins over the Panthers were by at least 12 points.

Pittsburgh at Virginia: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Virginia 74, Pittsburgh 60

Money line (ML)

PASS because while Virginia (-600) is the right side, but paying that much for a money line is a bad strategy. The implied win probability according to a -600 money line is 85.1%, and despite the head-to-head domination, Pittsburgh won a game in the past six meetings against Virginia, which is a 16.7% win rate.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

Virginia cashes tickets for bettors, and it has the highest cover rate in the ACC in conference games since 2017. It’s pretty much fade the Cavaliers at your own peril.

Furthermore, Pittsburgh’s production is too top-heavy, and it’ll be too easy for a well-coached Virginia team to slow them down. And the Panthers aren’t a good enough shooting team to take advantage of Virginia’s 225th-ranked 3-point defense.

Also, the best aspect of Pittsburgh—its 35th-ranked offensive rebounding percentage—is muted by Virginia who holds opponent’s to the 13th-lowest offensive rebounding percentage.

GIMME VIRGINIA -9.5 (-115) for 1 unit.

Over/Under (O/U)

Whenever there’s a low-scoring Virginia game, it mostly always has to do with its snail’s pace and not the Cavaliers’ offensive execution. Virginia is only 191st in points per game, but it ranks sixth in offensive rating while having the slowest pace out of 347 charted Division-1 teams.

Plus my read on the 126.5 total in this year’s Pittsburgh-Virginia matchup being 17.5 points higher than last year’s total—which went Under by six points—is that bookmakers are disregarding last season’s result.

Their calculations are such, and I’m willing to side with the House in thinking that this Pittsburgh-Virginia game has better offensive execution than the last one. I lean OVER 126.5 (-115) for a half-unit.

Virginia Tech at Pittsburgh odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Wednesday’s Virginia Tech Hokies at Pittsburgh Panthers odds and lines, with college basketball betting picks, tips and predictions.

The Virginia Tech Hokies (13-3 overall, 7-2 ACC) head north to face the Pittsburgh Panthers (8-5, 4-4) in a Wednesday night ACC matchup tipping off at 7 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Virginia Tech-Pittsburgh college basketball odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Virginia Tech is No. 16 in the Ferris Mowers Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports.

Virginia Tech at Pittsburgh: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 9 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Virginia Tech -160 (bet $160 to win $100) | Pittsburgh +135 (bet $100 to win $135)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Virginia Tech -3.5 (-105) | Pittsburgh +3.5 (-115)
  • Over/Under: 137.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Virginia Tech at Pittsburgh: Three things to know

  1. The Hokies have won five of their last six games and have yielded just 61.7 points per game in the process. Virginia Tech is coming off a 65-51 rout of No. 15 Virginia Saturday; the Hokies — who rank third in the ACC in scoring defense (63.8) — have held foes to 60 or fewer points in eight games this winter.
  2. Pitt heads into this contest on a three-game losing skid. Over their last two games (home games against North Carolina and Notre Dame), the Panthers have been outshot, 54.2% to 35.9% from the field. Pitt’s losing margin to UND (26 points in an 84-58 game) was its largest in five setbacks this season.
  3. This game has the potential to be played out in large part at the foul lines. Pittsburgh has attempted the second-most free throws (21.8) per game) among ACC teams. The Hokies (19.8) are right behind the Panthers in third. In the rate analytics of attempts per possession, both teams rank among the top-20 in the nation for getting to the charity stripe.

Virginia Tech at Pittsburgh: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Virginia Tech 69, Pittsburgh 66

Money line (ML)

Virginia Tech is the superior team, but there are question marks to remove before betting the money line. Will the Hokies be flat after an emotional win over Virginia? Will shaky road 3-point shooting catch up with VTU against a Pitt five with its back against the wall in the ACC standings?

The Hokies check enough strength-against-weakness and strength-answering-strength boxes to make for SOME VALUE ON VIRGINIA TECH -160.

Against the spread (ATS)

Peg the outcome as a two-possession win for the Hokies. PASS, unless you can get Virginia Tech at a -3 tag or better.

Over/Under (O/U)

Va. Tech’s slow-down style didn’t start filtering into an O/U advantage until ACC play got underway. Now the last five VTU games have hit the Under. The tag for this game started low and has drifted upward.

Back the UNDER 137.5 (-110).

Duke at Pittsburgh odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Tuesday’s Duke Blue Devils at Pittsburgh Panthers sports betting odds and lines, with college basketball betting picks, tips and predictions.

The Duke Blue Devils (5-3 overall, 3-1 ACC) and Pittsburgh Panthers (7-2, 3-1) are slated to do battle in a Tuesday night tilt at Petersen Events Center. Tip-off is at 9 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Duke-Pittsburgh college basketball betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Duke at Pittsburgh: Betting odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 11:30 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Duke -175 (bet $175 to win $100) | Pittsburgh +145 (bet $100 to win $145)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Duke -3.5 (-110) | Pittsburgh +3.5 (-110)
  • Over/Under: 143.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Duke at Pittsburgh: Three things to know

  1. The Panthers ended a nine-day hiatus by netting a season-high 96 points Saturday in a 96- 76 home win over Syracuse. Pitt outscored SU by a combined 22 points on 3-pointers and free throws. The Panthers had averaged just 63.5 points per game over their previous four games.
  2. Pittsburgh got 24 points and 16 rebounds from 6-foot-6 G

Justin Champagnie in its Saturday win over the Orange.

Champagnie has tallied 20-plus in four of his last five games and is averaging 18.7 PPG overall.

  3. Pitt’s last win in this series came Feb. 28, 2016. Winning by an average margin of 19 points, Duke has won five straight since then. Last season, the Devils beat the Panthers 79-67 in Durham Jan. 28.

Duke at Pittsburgh: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Pittsburgh 72, Duke 70

Money line (ML)

Champagnie is a monster on the offensive glass (21 offensive rebounds in his last four games), and he creates matchup problems for the Blue Devils.

A youthful Duke squad hasn’t really beaten anyone of note, and there isn’t much of a comparison on its schedule for the type of ball Pitt plays.

BACK THE PANTHERS +145 in a play with a ton of value.

Against the spread (ATS)

A slightly lesser play here on the value meter is PITTSBURGH +3.5 (-110). Consider light ATS action as a complement to a larger play on the ML.

Over/Under (O/U)

The game figures to have more pace than the average NCAA-I affair. The 143-and-a-hook looks to be an accurate assessment on the total: PASS.

Louisville at Pittsburgh odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Tuesday’s Louisville Cardinals at Pittsburgh Panthers sports betting odds and lines, with college basketball betting picks, tips and predictions.

The Louisville Cardinals (4-1 overall, 0-0 ACC) visit the Pittsburgh Panthers (5-1, 1-0) in a Tuesday night contest at Petersen Events Center. Tip-off will be at 7 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Louisville-Pittsburgh college basketball betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Louisville at Pittsburgh: Betting odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 12:15 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: Louisville -150 (bet $150 to win $100) | Pittsburgh +125 (bet $100 to win $125)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Louisville -2.5 (-110) | Pittsburgh +2.5 (-110)
  • Over/Under: 136.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Louisville at Pittsburgh: Three things to know

  1. Pitt rolls into this ACC home tilt on a five-game win streak. The Panthers held foes under 60 points in three of those five wins. Pitt ranks 81st in the nation in scoring defense overall (64.7 points per game) and over their last four games, the Panthers have held opposing teams to an anemic 34.1% accuracy mark on attempts from the field.
  2. The Cardinals had an 18-day layoff before their last game, an 85-48 loss at Wisconsin Saturday. UL was outshot 54% to 36% in that game against a Badgers team which is now 6-1. Figure the Cards as being untested in situations like having the extended time off, as 10 of 11 players who have logged minutes so far are underclassmen.
  3. Louisville swept Pitt two games to none last season. In the game at the Peterson Events Center Jan. 14, the Cardinals downed the Panthers 73-68 in overtime. Since 2006, UL is 18-3 against Pitt. Against the number the last two years have been an even 2-2 split.

Louisville at Pittsburgh: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Louisville 72, Pittsburgh 67

Money line (ML)

PASS and look for better value on the spread.

Against the spread (ATS)

Pitt head coach Jeff Capel tested positive for COVID-19 and will not coach the Panthers in this game. Pitt’s defensive numbers look to be inflated by some shaky 3-point shooting by the Panthers’ best opponents, and an early-season slate including a few bottom-150 teams.

With a diverse and deep offense, look for the Cardinals to bounce back and play well in this game. UL is 4-0 over its last four games after a straight up loss by 20 or more points. The Cards are 9-3 ATS in their last 12 with Pittsburgh.

TAKE LOUISVILLE -2.5 (-110).

Over/Under (O/U)

This one has a decent probability of rolling into a bit of a Louisville statement game and a fade of the Pitt defense is recommended. BACK THE OVER 136.5 (-110).

Pittsburgh at Georgia Tech odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Thursday’s Pittsburgh Panthers at Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets sports betting odds and lines, with college football betting picks, tips and predictions.

The Pittsburgh Panthers (5-5, 4-5 ACC) visit the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (3-6, 3-5) Thursday for a 7 p.m. ET kickoff. Below, we analyze the Pittsburgh-Georgia Tech college football betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Pittsburgh at Georgia Tech: Betting odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 7:05 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Pittsburgh -250 (bet $250 to win $100) | Georgia Tech +200 (bet $100 to win $200)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Pittsburgh -6.5 (-120) | Georgia Tech +6.5 (+100)
  • Over/Under: 53.5 (O: -125 | U: +105)

Pittsburgh at Georgia Tech: Three things to know

  1. Pitt was worked over 52-17 at Clemson last time out, splashing a little cold water on a modest two-game win streak. The Panthers have lost to the good teams, and taken care of the poor ones on their schedule. They averaged 44.0 points per game in two wins at Florida State and against Virginia Tech, covering the spread in both outings.
  2. The good news for Georgia Tech is it allowed just 23 points last week at NC State, their best defensive showing since a 16-13 win at Florida State in its season opener. The bad news is it lost by 10, failing to cover as a touchdown underdog.
  3. Pitt has been a little erratic on the line, going 3-6-1 ATS in 10 games to date. Total bettors have found the Panthers to be plenty consistent, hitting the Over in seven straight. The Panthers are averaging 28.5 PPG while allowing 25.0 PPG.

Pittsburgh at Georgia Tech: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Pittsburgh 37, Georgia Tech 26

Money line (ML)

Pittsburgh (-250) has been good when playing the dregs of the ACC while being outclassed against the contenders. Still, the Panthers have been so erratic that risking two and a half times your potential return is just not a good decision. PASS.

Against the spread (ATS)

PITTSBURGH -6.5 (-120) will cost you a little extra juice on this side, but it’s a good play. Georgia Tech is just 4-10 ATS in its past 14 at home, including 3-8 ATS in its past 11 as a home dog.

The Yellow Jackets are also 0-6 ATS in their past six games following a cover. The road team has connected in five of the past seven in this series, too.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 53.5 (-125) is the play here, cashing in seven straight conference tilts for the Panthers. The Over is 4-0 in their past four appearances on Thursday while going 5-0 in their past five on the road. The Over is also 6-1 in the past seven at home for the Ramblin’ Wreck, while going 8-1 in their past nine following a non-cover. This is the best play on the board for Thursday.

Pittsburgh at Clemson odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s Pittsburgh Panthers at Clemson Tigers sports betting odds and lines, with college football betting picks, tips and predictions.

The Pittsburgh Panthers (5-4 overall, 4-4 ACC) visit the Clemson Tigers (7-1, 6-1) Saturday for a 3:30 p.m. ET kickoff. Below, we analyze the Pittsburgh-Clemson college football betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

The Tigers are No. 4 in the Amway Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports.

Pittsburgh at Clemson: Betting odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Thursday at 12:45 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: Pittsburgh +850 (bet $100 to win $850) | Clemson -1667 (bet $1,667 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Pittsburgh +24 (-115) | Clemson -24 (-106)
  • Over/Under: 55.5 (O: -106 | U: -115)

Pittsburgh at Clemson: Three things to know

  1. Pitt is coming off two impressive wins, 41-17 at Florida State Nov. 7 and 47-14 vs. Virginia Tech last week. QB Kenny Pickett returned from a two-week absence due to an ankle injury, throwing for 210 yards at FSU and for 404 yards vs. Tech. For the season, Pickett has completed 63.3% of his passes for 2,003 yards with 10 touchdowns against 4 interceptions, while running for 140 yards and 7 scores.
  2. Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence will take the field for the first time since Oct. 24. After missing two games for a positive COVID-19 test, Lawrence was all set to play at Florida State last Saturday, but the game was postponed when a Clemson reserve offensive lineman tested COVID-19 positive a day before kickoff. Freshman D.J. Uiagalelei played adequately in Lawrence’s place, throwing for 781 yards and 4 TDs in the two games, but Clemson lost the second game, 47-40 at Notre Dame in double overtime Nov. 7.
  3. Clemson and Pittsburgh last played two years ago with the Tigers cruising to a 42-10 win in the ACC Championship Game. RB Travis Etienne, a sophomore then, ran for 156 yards and 2 TDs on 12 carries, while Lawrence, then a freshman, threw for just 118 yards but with 2 TDs. The Panthers lead the all-time series 2-1, including a 43-42 upset in 2016 when the Tigers were ranked No. 3.

Pittsburgh at Clemson: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Clemson 63, Pittsburgh 24

Money line (ML)

Clemson (-1667) is going to boat race Pitt for reasons mentioned in the next section, but the money line price is way too high. I’ll PASS and focus on the spread and Over.

Against the spread (ATS)

CLEMSON -24 (-106) is the STRONGEST PLAY – 1.5 times your usual wager. The Tigers are angry. They’re upset about having last week’s game postponed after they had already traveled to Florida State. Head coach Dabo Swinney went as far to say FSU used COVID as “an excuse to cancel the game.”

Meanwhile, the Tigers will have had three weeks to stew about the Notre Dame loss when they face the Panthers Saturday. That defeat knocked them out of the No. 1 ranking to No. 4. Look for Clemson to take out its frustrations on Pitt.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 55.5 (-106) is the play. I expect Clemson to hit the Over on its own. The Tigers are pissed and have been itching to get back on the field. Swinney knows the importance of “style points,” which spells doom for Pitt but bliss for Over bettors.

Virginia Tech at Pittsburgh odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s Virginia Tech Hokies at Pittsburgh Panthers sports betting odds and lines, with college football betting picks, tips and predictions.

The Virginia Tech Hokies (4-4 overall, 4-3 ACC) visit the Pittsburgh Panthers (4-4, 3-4) for a 4 p.m. ET kickoff Saturday. Below, we analyze the Virginia Tech-Pittsburgh college football betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Virginia Tech at Pittsburgh: Betting odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Thursday at 8:53 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: Virginia Tech -162 (bet $162 to win $100) | Pittsburgh +130 (bet $100 to win $130)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Virginia Tech -3.5 (-110) | Pittsburgh +3.5 (-110)
  • Over/Under: 54.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Virginia Tech at Pittsburgh: Three things to know

  1. The Hokies are in a tailspin, losers of the past two games, each heartbreakers. They appeared to have a win against Liberty Nov. 7, but head coach Justin Puente’s timeout canceled what appeared to be a Virginia Tech touchdown on a blocked Liberty field-goal attempt with the scored tied 35-all in the final seconds. The Flames eventually booted the game-winner. Then last week, the Hokies let a 24-13 third-quarter lead slip away in a 25-25 home loss to Miami in excruciating fashion.
  2. The Hokies are just 1-3 ATS in the past four games as a favorite, and they’re 0-2 SU in the past two. On the road, they’re 1-2 ATS as a favorite, too.
  3. Pittsburgh is coming off a bye after spanking Florida State 41-17 back on Nov. 7 in Tallahassee. It was the Panthers’ first cover against an FBS team this season after going 0-5-1 ATS in the previous six. The Over has cashed in five in a row for Pitt.

Virginia Tech at Pittsburgh: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Pittsburgh 30, Virginia Tech 27

Money line (ML)

PITTSBURGH (+130) is a good value at home against a Virginia Tech (-162) side which is reeling. The Panthers are rested, and they looked very good at FSU last time out.

Against the spread (ATS)

PITTSBURGH +3.5 (-110) is a tremendous play on their home field as short dogs. The Panthers have owned the Hokies in this series recently, at least against the number. The Panthers are 6-0 ATS in their past six home games against the Hokies, and 10-2 ATS in the past 12 in the series overall. The home team is also 7-2 ATS in the past nine, and the underdog is 9-3 ATS across the past 12.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 54.5 (-110) is only worth a light bet. Pitt is on a 5-0 Over run, and the Over has hit in four of the past five meetings at Heinz Field. The Over is also 5-1 in Va. Tech’s past six roadies, and 6-2 in its past eight as a favorite, too.

Pittsburgh at Florida State odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s Pittsburgh Panthers at Florida State Seminoles sports betting odds and lines, with college football betting picks, tips and predictions.

The Pittsburgh Panthers (3-4, 2-4 ACC) visit the Florida State Seminoles (2-4, 1-4) Saturday for a 4 p.m. ET kickoff. Below, we analyze the Pittsburgh-Florida State college football betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Pittsburgh at Florida State: Betting odds and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Thursday at 7:32 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: Pittsburgh +115 (bet $100 to win $115) | Florida State -137 (bet $137 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Pittsburgh +2.5 (-110) | Florida State -2.5 (-110)
  • Over/Under: 51.5 (O: -106 | U: -115)

Pittsburgh at Florida State: Three things to know

  1. While both of these teams enter with four losses, Pitt enters on a four-game skid. The Panthers were hammered 45-3 at home by Notre Dame on Oct. 24, and they have posted an ugly 0-5-1 ATS mark in the past six games, yet to cover this season against an FBS team.
  2. Like Pitt, Florida State was also crushed before its bye, losing 48-16 on the road against Louisville. That followed a 31-28 upset of then-No. 5 North Carolina and a road cover at Notre Dame (falling 42-26 as a 21-point dog), proof the Seminoles have been a bit of a Jekyll and Hyde team this season.
  3. The strength of Florida State is the run game, ranking 30th in the nation with 197.0 yards per game. The strength of Pittsburgh is its run defense, as they’re second in the country with 69.1 yards per game allowed, so that’s the matchup to watch closely.

Pittsburgh at Florida State: Odds, prediction, betting lines and picks

Prediction

Florida State 24, Pittsburgh 20

Money line (ML)

FLORIDA STATE (-137) is cheap enough to play on the money line at home. Pittsburgh (+110) just cannot be trusted after getting hammered by 42 points last time out by Notre Dame. If you just look at common opponents alone, at least the Seminoles hung with the Irish and didn’t get blown out.

Against the spread (ATS)

FLORIDA STATE -2.5 (-110) will cover the number, but the money line isn’t that much more expensive. Of course, the only thing you’d be protected against by taking the money line is a 2-point victory by FSU. That’s unlikely. Either way, you’ll be a winner, as Pitt will bring nothing to Tally in this one.

Over/Under (O/U)

Slam the UNDER 51.5 (-115) here, as I am not trusting either of these offenses to light the world afire. Both sides have struggled all season, with FSU averaging just 22.8 PPG, while Pitt is scoring 20.8 PPG in six games against FBS foes.
