Washington Capitals at Philadelphia Flyers odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Wednesday’s Washington Capitals at Philadelphia Flyers sports betting odds and lines, with NHL betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Washington Capitals (30-9-5) visit the rival Philadelphia Flyers (22-15-6) Wednesday at Wells Fargo Center for a 7:30 p.m. ET puck drop. We analyze the Capitals-Flyers sports betting odds and lines, while providing NHL betting tips and picks around this matchup.

Capitals at Flyers: Projected starting goalies

Braden Holtby vs. Carter Hart

Holtby’s coming off a win over the San Jose Sharks Sunday in which he stopped 25 of 28 shots on goal. He’s 18-7-4 on the season with a .902 save percentage and 2.99 goals against average. His numbers dip to .892 and 3.31 through 15 road games.

Hart is on a personal three-game losing streak which has dropped his season record to 13-10-3. He has a .905 SV% and 2.61 GAA. He has been incredible at home, however, with a .947 SV% and 1.49 GAA through 14 games played.

Capitals at Flyers: Odds, picks and betting tips

Odds courtesy of BetMGM; access them at USA TODAY Sports for a full set of today’s betting odds. Odds last updated Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Flyers 5, Capitals 2

Moneyline (ML)

Trust in Hart’s home splits vs. those of Holtby on the road and back the FLYERS (+115) as home underdogs. The Capitals (-139) are 17-5-1 on the road despite Holtby’s poor numbers, and they’ve won three in a row, including a 6-1 home win over the Ottawa Senators Tuesday. The Flyers dropped the final four games of a six-game road trip to finish 1-4-1, including a 5-4 overtime loss at the Carolina Hurricanes Tuesday.

The Capitals edged out a 2-1 shootout win in the season’s first head-to-head meeting Nov. 13. Take the plus-money on the Flyers to even up the season series.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Flyers to win in regulation, overtime or a shootout returns a profit of $11.50.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The FLYERS (+1.5, -228) can also be backed on the spread, albeit for a much smaller return of $4.39 on the same $10 wager. They’re 22-21 against the spread overall but a quality 12-7 at home. The Capitals (-1.5, +185) are 23-21 overall and 16-7 on the road.

Liking the Flyers to win outright, the moneyline is the primary play, but the spread allows them to lose by 1 goal while the bet still cashes.

Over/Under (O/U)

Take the OVER 6.5 (+115). The Caps are 7-3 against the Over/Under across their last 10 games and the Flyers are 7-2-1 over the same span. Expect Hart’s best as the Flyers handle most of the scoring load.

Esten’s NHL betting record: 158-138

Philadelphia Flyers at Arizona Coyotes odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Saturday’s Philadelphia Flyers at Arizona Coyotes sports betting odds and lines, with NHL betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Philadelphia Flyers (22-14-5) visit the Arizona Coyotes (23-16-4) Saturday at Gila River Arena for an 8 p.m. ET puck drop. We analyze the Flyers-Coyotes sports betting odds and lines, while providing NHL betting tips and picks around this matchup.

Flyers at Coyotes: Projected starting goalies

Carter Hart vs. Antti Raanta

Hart enters off of back-to-back losses in which he stopped 51 of 62 shots on goal, though he did stop 13 of 14 shots in relief of Brian Elliott against the Los Angeles Kings in between those two starts. He is now 13-9-3 on the season with a .908 save percentage and 2.52 goals against average.

Raanta won each of his last two starts, allowing three total goals on 67 shots. He is 8-8-2 on the season with a .918 SV% and 2.76 GAA. He has been best at home with a .921 SV% and 2.51 GAA.

Flyers at Coyotes: Odds, picks and betting tips

Odds courtesy of BetMGM; access them at USA TODAY Sports for a full set of today’s betting odds. Odds last updated at 12:00 p.m. ET.

Prediction

Flyers 5, Coyotes 2

Moneyline (ML)

The FLYERS (+115) have lost back-to-back games, including a 5-4 loss against the Vegas Golden Knights Thursday, and are just 1-3 to start their road trip. They’re 5-5 across their last 10 games and 9-12-1 on the road for the season. The Coyotes (-139) are 10-10-1 at home and 5-5 across their last 10 games, but have won back-to-back games coming into Saturday, including a 4-2 victory over the Anaheim Ducks Thursday. They beat the Flyers 3-1 in Philly Dec. 5.

The Flyers have distinct advantages in both Corsi (percentage of total shot attempts) and scoring chances at 5-on-5. Expect a better performance from Hart and take the value with the visitors.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Flyers to win in regulation, overtime or a shootout returns a profit of $11.50.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

Back the FLYERS (-1.5, +310) on the alternate spread. A win by 2 or more goals will return a profit better than three times your investment. Philly is 21-20 against the spread overall but 9-13 at home, while ‘Zona is 26-17 ATS overall but just 10-11 at home.

Over/Under (O/U)

Take the OVER 5.5 (-106). Both goalies are prone to blow-ups and there’s plenty of offensive firepower on either side. Philly is 6-3-1 against the Over/Under across its last 10 games. Arizona is 5-5.

Philadelphia Flyers at Vegas Golden Knights odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Thursday’s Philadelphia Flyers at Vegas Golden Knights sports betting odds and lines, with NHL betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Philadelphia Flyers (22-13-5) visit the Vegas Golden Knights (22-15-6) Thursday at T-Mobile Arena for a 10 p.m. ET puck drop. The Flyers sit fifth in the Metropolitan Division and the Golden Knights lead the Pacific. We analyze the Flyers-Golden Knights sports betting odds and lines, while providing NHL betting tips and picks around this matchup.

Flyers at Golden Knights: Projected starting goalies

Carter Hart vs. Marc-Andre Fleury

Hart had a three-game winning streak snapped by allowing six goals on 29 shots against the San Jose Sharks Dec. 28. The sophomore backstop is 13-8-3 through 24 starts and three relief appearances. He has a .911 save percentage and 2.41 goals against average.

Fleury has won each of his last two starts while allowing three goals on 56 shots. He’s 16-8-3 on the season with a .913 SV% and 2.71 GAA.

Flyers at Golden Knights: Odds, picks and betting tips

Odds courtesy of BetMGM; access them at USA TODAY Sports for a full set of today’s betting odds. Odds last updated at 12:25 p.m. ET.

Prediction

Flyers 4, Golden Knights 3

Moneyline (ML)

The two teams are separated by just one point with the Golden Knights (-182) having played 43 games to the Flyers’ 40, but Philadelphia sits 10 points back of their division lead. The FLYERS (+150) went 1-2 through the state of California and will play the Golden Knights, Arizona Coyotes and Carolina Hurricanes before returning home Jan. 8. The visitors are a strong play at plus-money despite Vegas’ two-game home winning streak.

Vegas has a slight analytical advantage in Corsi (total shot attempts) and scoring chances at 5-on-5, but the Flyers are well-versed in the tendencies of Fleury from his days with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Hart hasn’t faced the Golden Knights in his young career.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Flyers to win in regulation, overtime or a shootout returns a profit of $15.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The FLYERS (+1.5, -182) warrant another play on the less profitable spread where they’ll need to stay within 1 goal in a loss or win outright. The Knights are just 18-25 against the spread overall and 9-13 at home. The Flyers are 20-20 ATS overall and 8-13 on the road. Both teams possess a goal differential of plus-9 for the season.

Over/Under (O/U)

Take the OVER 5.5 (-134) with Philly’s familiarity with Fleury propping up the goal total. Vegas is 6-3-1 against the Over/Under across its last 10 games while Philadelphia is 6-4-0.

Esten’s NHL betting record: 149-119

New York Rangers at Philadelphia Flyers odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Monday’s New York Rangers at Philadelphia Flyers sports betting odds and lines, with NHL matchup analysis, picks and tips.

The New York Rangers (17-14-4) and Philadelphia Flyers (20-11-5) convene at Wells Fargo Center at 7 p.m. ET Monday before heading out for the holiday break. We analyze the Rangers-Flyers sports betting odds and lines, with NHL matchup analysis, picks and tips.

Rangers at Flyers: Projected starting goalies

Alexandar Georgiev vs. Carter Hart

Georgiev has posted a 9-7-1 record, 2.93 goals-against average and .915 save percentage with two shutouts. He is likely to get the start after Henrik Lundqvist started (and won) on Sunday afternoon against the Anaheim Ducks. King Henrik has started back-to-back before, and with the holiday break coming up, it wouldn’t be shocking to see him tabbed for this one since he saw such a low workload Sunday.

Hart is 12-7-3 with a 2.33 GAA and .912 save percentage with a shutout, and he has back-to-back wins vs. Anaheim and the Buffalo Sabres, turning aside all but two of the 60 shots he faced.

Rangers at Flyers: Odds, picks and betting tips

Odds courtesy of BetMGM; access them at USA TODAY Sports for a full set of today’s betting odds. Odds last updated at 3 p.m. ET.

Prediction

Flyers 4, Rangers 2

Moneyline (ML)

The Flyers (-200) are not worth a play, as risking two times the return is just not good business. If you’ve frequented my columns, you know the neighborhood of -160 to -170 is my cut-off, unless it’s included in a multi-team parlay.

New to sports betting? Every $10 wagered for the Flyers to win in regulation, overtime or a shootout would profit $5 if they do so.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The FLYERS (-1.5, +135) are a much better roll of the dice on the puck line at home. The Rangers (+1.5, -167) have won six straight inside the division, but they’re 1-4 in the past five overall, and they’re 7-16 in the past 23 when working on no rest. The Flyers have won nine of the past 13 overall, and six of the past seven at home. Philly is also 6-1 in the past seven meetings, and the favorite has hit in seven of the past nine meetings.

Over/Under (O/U)

The Under is the trend in this series, hitting in five straight meetings. However, buck the trend and play the OVER 5.5 (-139). Here’s why: The Rangers are playing the second end of a back-to-back, and the Over is 12-4 in their past 16 on no rest. The Over is also 5-0 in their past five overall, while going 4-0 in the past four as an underdog. The Flyers have hit six straight Overs against Eastern Conference foes.

Buffalo Sabres at Philadelphia Flyers odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Thursday’s Buffalo Sabres at Philadelphia Flyers sports betting odds and lines, with NHL betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Philadelphia Flyers (18-11-5) host the Buffalo Sabres (16-12-7) Thursday at Wells Fargo Center. Puck drop is scheduled for just after 7 p.m. ET. We analyze the Sabres-Flyers sports betting odds and lines, while providing NHL betting tips and picks around this matchup.

Sabres at Flyers: Projected starting goalies

Carter Hutton vs. Carter Hart

Hutton is 6-5-4 with a .901 save percentage and 3.05 goals against average. After winning his first six starts, he has suffered a 0-5-4 slump with an .875 SV% and a 3.99 GAA. He allowed six goals out of 30 shots in his last start, a 6-5 OT setback at the Vancouver Canucks last Saturday.

Hart is 11-7-3 with a .912 SV% and 2.40 GAA. He stopped 40 of 41 shots against the Anaheim Ducks his last time out to snap a personal two-game losing skid.

Sabres at Flyers: Odds, picks and betting tips

Odds courtesy of BetMGM; access them at USA TODAY Sports for a full set of today’s betting odds. Odds last updated at 1 p.m. ET.

Prediction

Flyers 3, Sabres 1

Moneyline (ML)

The Sabres (+125) have lost two in a row, including a 5-3 road loss to the Maple Leafs Tuesday. The FLYERS (-150) snapped a three-game slide with Tuesday’s 4-1 home win over the Ducks. They’re 11-2-4 at home for the season while the Sabres are just 6-9-4 on the road.

Take the home side to win outright. A victory in regulation, overtime or a shootout will return a profit of $6.67.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

Back the FLYERS (-1.5, +180) to win by at least 2 goals for a better return on your investment. Philly is 18-16 ATS overall and 10-7 at home. The Sabres are 23-12 ATS overall and 12-7 on the road, but they’re coming off the 5-3 loss, and they’ve struggled on the road.

Over/Under (O/U)

Take the UNDER 5.5 (+125) as the contrarian play. The Sabres are 7-3 against the Over/Under across their last 10 games and the Flyers are 5-5, but both teams are starting their top goaltender and they enter off the day of rest.

Anaheim Ducks at Philadelphia Flyers odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Tuesday’s Anaheim Ducks at Philadelphia Flyers sports betting odds and lines, with NHL betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Anaheim Ducks (14-15-4) tangle with the Philadelphia Flyers (17-11-5) at Wells Fargo Center at 7 p.m. ET Tuesday. We analyze the Ducks-Flyers sports betting odds and lines, with NHL matchup analysis, picks and tips.

Ducks at Flyers: Projected starting goalies

John Gibson vs. Carter Hart

Gibson heads into this one with a 10-13-2 record, 2.79 goals against average and .910 save percentage. He is coming off a 4-3 shootout win over the New York Rangers Saturday.

Hart carries a 10-7-3 record, 2.47 GAA and .906 SV% into play, but he is on a personal two-start skid. He allowed three goals on 30 shots in each of his past two outings in Colorado and Minnesota, but the Flyers managed just one goal in each of the outings to give him an undeserved L.

Ducks at Flyers: Odds, picks and betting tips

Odds courtesy of BetMGM; access them at USA TODAY Sports for a full set of today’s betting odds. Odds last updated at 10 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Flyers 4, Ducks 2

Moneyline (ML)

The FLYERS (-143) are heavily favored despite the fact the Ducks have dominated this series lately. The Ducks are 12-4 in the past 16 meetings in this series, and 7-1 in the past eight trips to the City of Brotherly Love. However, Anaheim has won just five of its past 18 games overall this season, and the Ducks are 1-5 in the past six on the road. Philly has won four of the past five overall, and is 7-2 in the past nine as a home favorite.

New to sports betting? Every $10 wagered for the Flyers to win in regulation, overtime or a shootout would profit $7 if they do so.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

PASS. While I think the Flyers end their dismal showing in this series against the Ducks, I’m not confident enough to lay two goals. My lean is certainly to the home side (-1.5, +185), but confidence isn’t high enough to risk it on the puck line.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 5.5 (-121) is 7-2-2 in the past 11 meetings in this series, and 3-0-2 in the past five meetings in Pennsylvania.

Arizona Coyotes at Philadelphia Flyers odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Thursday’s Arizona Coyotes at Philadelphia Flyers sports betting odds and lines, with NHL betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Philadelphia Flyers (16-7-5) host the Arizona Coyotes (16-9-4) Thursday at Wells Fargo Center. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. We analyze the Coyotes-Flyers sports betting odds and lines, while providing NHL betting tips and picks around this matchup.

Coyotes at Flyers: Projected starting goalies

Darcy Kuemper vs. Brian Elliott

Kuemper is 11-6-2 with a .936 save percentage and a 1.97 goals against average. He stopped 33 of 35 shot attempts in his last start, a 4-2 win at the Columbus Blue Jackets Tuesday.

Raanta is 3-2-0 over his last five starts, but he’s coming off a home loss to the San Jose Sharks in which he allowed three goals on 29 shots. He has a 5-3-2 record on the year with a .924 save percentage and 2.66 goals against average.

Elliott won each of his past three starts with all coming on the road. The backup to Carter Hart owns a 7-2-2 record with a .916 SV% and a 2.70 GAA through 11 starts and three relief appearances.

Coyotes at Flyers: Odds, picks and betting tips

Odds courtesy of BetMGM; access them at USA TODAY Sports for a full set of today’s betting odds. Odds last updated 11:35 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Flyers 4, Coyotes 2

Moneyline (ML)

The FLYERS (-154) seek a sixth straight victory. They’re 9-1-4 on home ice with a plus-12 goal differential on the season. The Coyotes (+125) are 9-3-3 on the road and 5-3-2 over their last 10 games. They’re coming off Tuesday’s two-goal victory at Columbus. The Flyers also last played Tuesday and beat the Toronto Maple Leafs 6-1 at home.

The Flyers average 51.67% of all shot attempts at 5-on-5 while the Coyotes average just 47.05%. Philadelphia also has the edge in scoring chances at full strength. The Coyotes have been riding some puck luck, as they rank fifth in the NHL with a PDO (save percentage plus shooting percentage) of 1.019.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The Coyotes are 19-10 against the spread overall and 12-3 ATS on the road. The Flyers are 17-11 overall and 9-5 at home. Take the COYOTES (+1.5, -223) to cover the puck line and keep this one close. They lost by two goals in just two of their last 17 games. The Flyers have just one win by two or more goals in their last seven outings.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Coyotes to lose by a single goal or win outright returns a profit of $4.48.

Over/Under (O/U)

Take the OVER 4.5 (-223) on a very low projection. While both goalies have been in good form of late, but the two teams combine to average 5.83 goals for per game and the Flyers have scored a total of 16 goals over their last three games.

Toronto Maple Leafs at Philadelphia Flyers odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Tuesday’s Toronto Maple Leafs at Philadelphia Flyers sports betting odds and lines, with NHL betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Toronto Maple Leafs (13-11-4) head down to Philadelphia to face the Philadelphia Flyers (15-7-5) at Wells Fargo Center Tuesday at 7 p.m. ET. We analyze the Maple Leafs-Flyers odds and lines while providing NHL betting tips around this matchup.

Maple Leafs at Flyers: Projected starting goalies

Frederik Andersen vs. Carter Hart

Andersen is confirmed to start and has a 13-5-3 record with a 2.47 goals against average and .921 save percentage. Andersen has won four straight starts and allowed just one goal on 55 total shots faced over his last two outings.

Hart has a 8-5-3 record with a 2.44 GAA and .906 SV%. The Philadelphia goaltender performed great in his last two games while allowing one goal in each game and most importantly getting the win.

Maple Leafs at Flyers: Odds, picks and betting tips

Odds courtesy of BetMGM; access them at USA TODAY Sports for a full set of today’s betting odds. Odds last updated at 2:45 p.m. ET.

Prediction

Flyers 4, Maple Leafs 3

Moneyline (ML)

The FLYERS (+100) are an even-money bet. Both teams last played Saturday but the Maple Leafs are playing the first half of a back-to-back. Philadelphia has won four straight contests and Toronto’s Andersen has also won four consecutive games. Philadelphia has lost only once in regulation in 13 home contests with eight wins. The Flyers’ moneyline is what we are backing Tuesday night.

A $10 bet with Philadelphia results in a $10 profit with an outright win for the Flyers.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The Maple Leafs are 11-17 against the spread which is 28th in the NHL. Even with the return of Mitch Marner, this game is too close to call. The Flyers are 16-11 ATS. AVOID.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 6.5 (+125) is worth a tiny play. The Over has connected in three of their last four head-to-head matchups. In those four games, the teams combined for 34 goals (8.5 per contest). In their last five games, the Maple Leafs have scored four goals per game while the Flyers have averaged 3.4 goals per contest. It is why we are backing the Over Tuesday night.

Placing a $10 bet here will give a bettor a $12.50 profit with a total of seven or more goals scored.

Prediction

Flyers 5, Red Wings 1

Moneyline (ML)

The Flyers are prohibitive home favorites at -286. They’re the much better team in every area of the ice and have won two straight games entering the home contest against a Red Wings squad mired in a seven-game losing streak. Philadelphia is 7-1-4 on home ice while Detroit is just 3-9-2 on the road.

Philly wins this rather handily, but our value will lie on the spread with a $10 moneyline bet returning a profit of just $3.50. It’s too much chalk to eat the day after Thanksgiving.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

Get plus-money with the FLYERS (-1.5, +100) to win by two or more goals. The Red Wings are 12-15 against the puck line and 7-7 on the road, and the Flyers are 14-11 overall and 7-5 at home. Each of the Red Wings’ last three losses were by margins of at least two goals, including Bernier’s last start Saturday, Nov. 23.

Six of Philly’s 13 wins on the season were decided by at least two goals and it outshoots the opposition by 4.6 shots on goal per game.

Over/Under (O/U)

The lean is to the OVER 5.5 (-143). The Red Wings have topped the goal projection in just four of their last 10 games while the Flyers have done so in only three of their last 10, but Philly will take care of the bulk of the scoring against Bernier. A late goal by the Red Wings will send this over the number.

Flyers-Hurricanes odds: Carolina seeks revenge vs. Philly

Previewing Thursday’s Philadelphia Flyers at Carolina Hurricanes sports betting odds and lines, with NHL matchup analysis, picks and tips

The Carolina Hurricanes (13-7-1) host the Philadelphia Flyers (10-7-4) at PNC Arena in Raleigh at 7 p.m. ET. We analyze the Hurricanes-Flyers odds and lines, while providing NHL betting tips and picks around this matchup

The Hurricanes are looking for some revenge after being topped 4-1 in Philadelphia Nov. 5.

Flyers at Hurricanes: Projected starting goalies

Carter Hart vs. Petr Mrazek

Hart carries a 6-5-0 record with a 2.72 goals-against average and a .896 save percentage into play, and he looks to bounce back after getting pulled midway through his last appearance in Florida on Tuesday night. Veteran Brian Elliott also has a 2.72 GAA with a .913 SV%, so if he gets the start, there isn’t much of a difference.

Mrazek is money at home, posting a sparkling 7-1-0 record, 2.11 GAA and a .918 save percentage in eight starts at PNC Arena while going just 3-2-1 with a 3.26 GAA and a .893 save percentage in six assignments away from the Triangle.

The HURRICANES (-176) are a tad expensive at this price, but I don’t trust the puck line. This one should be a very physical game with a decent touch of offense, but also plenty of hits and tight checking, too. The Flyers (+145) are a tempting play, but they’re 4-9 in the past 13 trips to Raleigh.

Carolina is also streaking in after sweeping a three-game road trip for the first time in Whalers/Hurricanes franchise history. The ‘Canes will make up for the fact F Erik Haula (knee) being sidelined indefinitely.

On a side note, I’ll be attending this game, and the Hurricanes are 3-1-0 in the four games I’ve been to at PNC Arena this season, so consider yours truly a bit of a good luck charm for the home side.

New to sports betting? A $10 wager on Carolina returns a profit of $5.70 – every $1 wagered profits $0.57 with a Hurricanes win.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

Again, I don’t trust the Hurricanes (-1.5, +150) laying more than a goal, and the Flyers (+1.5, -182) are just too expensive the other way if you want insurance.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 6.5 (+125) is worth a small-unit play, cashing in 10 of the past 14 meetings.

A $10 wager profits $12.50 if there are seven goals or more. Every $1 wagered profits $1.25 in this scenario.
