Seahawks won’t discuss trades for D.K. Metcalf: ‘You can’t even make an offer’

Sometimes the trades you don’t make are the most important ones.

Sometimes the trades you don’t make are the most important ones. That’s why it’s reassuring to hear that the Seattle Seahawks are not interested in dealing the best player on their team.

According to a report by Howard Eskin at 94WIP, the Seahawks recently turned down a huge trade proposal by the New York Jets. They were offering the No. 10 overall pick (one after Seattle) in exchange for wide receiver D.K. Metcalf. This franchise has made some very-bad moves over the last few weeks, but at least Pete Carroll and John Schneider know enough not to even consider sending No. 14 away – per MSN.

“The Jets were going to offer, and Seattle knew it, the No. 10 pick in the fist round. I’ve been told by multiple people when somebody calls Seattle about D.K. Metcalf (they said) ‘We’re not trading him. We’re not trading him.’ They don’t even take the offer,” Eskin said. “They just say ‘Nope’ and they just shut it right down. You can’t even make an offer right now.”

Good.

There’s been a ton of speculation about Seattle potentially trading Metcalf, but the vast majority of it has come from fans of teams who need a stud wide receiver.

Update:

There’s now a dispute that the Jets made the offer, but the Seahawks are still reportedly not listening to Metcalf-related trades.

Where does the Jamal Adams deal rank among worst trades of the Pete Carroll era?

Where does the Jamal Adams deal rank among worst trades of the Pete Carroll era?

Jamal Adams will be going on injured reserve soon, as we learned today the Seahawks safety has to undergo season-ending surgery on his shoulder. While Adams is an excellent defender in a vacuum, the trade that brought him over from the Jets is beginning to look like a potential era-ending blunder. Given the massive draft capital and financial investment the team has made in Adams, every game he misses or doesn’t play at an All-Pro level is another crushing blow.

Here are the worst trades of the Pete Carroll, John Schneider era and where the Adams deal ranks among them.

Declining returns in the NFL draft are what got the Seahawks here. This roster is frayed all over and a regression by their franchise quarterback Russell Wilson has revealed just how deep the rot goes.

Fab Four: Selecting Florida football’s Mount Rushmore of all-time recruits

On the eve of early signing day, Gators Wire recalls the most hyped commits in school history.

Florida Gators football came into prominence only recently in the grand scale of college football history, emerging from the swamps of the Southeastern Conference in the early 1990s behind its Heisman hero, Steve Spurrier, and his fun-and-gun offense.

As the team improved in the standings, it also made headway off the field on the recruiting front. It was not until Urban Meyer took over that the program reached stratospheric heights when it came to bringing in some of the best players the nation’s high school ranks had to offer.

In fact, two of our top four all-time recruits arrived during Meyer’s watch, while the Ol’ Head Ball Coach snagged one and Jim McElwain, who oversaw one of the two worst seasons in Gainesville since 1979, also scored a victory in the prep wars.

Here is Gator Wire’s Mount Rushmore of prospects, but first take a look at our honorable mentions.

Does Vikings WR Justin Jefferson have a chance at Rookie of the Year?

The odds aren’t great, but he’s certainly a name to watch.

The Vikings are hoping that wide receiver Justin Jefferson fills the shoes that were left empty after the team traded Stefon Diggs to the Bills.

Minnesota drafted Jefferson with the Bills’ pick from the trade and before the season has even started, Jefferson is already the favorite to be the WR2 on the team.

That might say more about the roster configuration rather than Jefferson’s skillset.

What kind of season can we expect from Jefferson? Sixty catches for 800 yards and eight touchdowns? That sounds nice.

Jefferson would need to do more to be a candidate for Offensive Rookie of the Year, something Vegas gives him 17.5-1 odds to accomplish.

The one thing on Jefferson’s side is that he should get every opportunity to find success with such limited options on this roster at wide receiver outside of Adam Thielen.

The Vikings have had five OROY winners in franchise history:

  • 1973, Chuck Foreman
  • 1976, Sammy White
  • 1998, Randy Moss
  • 2007, Adrian Peterson
  • 2009, Percy Harvin

Could Jefferson join this list? The odds aren’t great, but he’s certainly a name to watch.

The case for Percy Harvin to sign with the Vikings

The Vikings signing Percy Harvin could add an interesting dimension to the team. Here’s the case for Minnesota to take a chance on him

Percy Harvin is trying to make an NFL comeback, and even though the Vikings added some wide receivers in the draft, it’d be nice to have Harvin back.

The Vikings drafted Justin Jefferson and K.J. Osborn with two of their 15 picks in 2020. Also, Minnesota signed some wide receivers as undrafted free agents, like Quartney Davis, who could come in and possibly work their way up the depth chart.

Not only that, but Vikings general manager Rick Spielman said recently that the team has no intent of signing Harvin.

However, the position is still in flux and Harvin has his downsides, but he also could have value. Here’s the case for the Vikings signing him:

Harvin probably wouldn’t require a huge contract

If Harvin is serious about getting back into the NFL, he has to be realistic. The wide receiver and return man has been out of the league since 2016. His skill set is going to be hard to determine.

Also, Harvin already came out of retirement to sign with the Bills, where he wasn’t consistently on the field, and didn’t seem like his old self. If that’s the version of Harvin teams are getting, he’ll have to sign with a team that’s a good fit, as opposed to one that would give him more money just to take a flyer on a flashy wide receiver.

Former Vikings wide receiver Stefon Diggs sent out cryptic tweets and eventually was traded from Minnesota, so this Vikings team isn’t for everyone. However, I think if Harvin jelled with the team on a personal level, then he could fit in on the field as well.

Vikings GM Rick Spielman: “We have no intent to sign Percy Harvin.”

“We have no intent to sign Percy Harvin,” Vikings GM Rick Spielman said on PFT PM recently.

Former Vikings wide receiver Percy Harvin is planning an NFL comeback.

“I thought I was done, but that itch came back,” Harvin told ESPN’s Josina Anderson on Tuesday.

At 31, Harvin is still young enough to possibly come back and be effective, whether that be in a reduced role at wide receiver or on special teams in the return game.

That does not mean Harvin is going to be wearing purple and gold in 2020. Vikings general manager Rick Spielman shut down the notion that Harvin could come to the Vikings now that he wants another shot at the NFL.

“We have no intent to sign Percy Harvin” Spielman said on PFT PM recently.

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that Spielman said at the NFL Combine the Vikings had no intention of trading Diggs and then, well, traded him.

Spielman also said the team had no intent of trading Harvin in 2013, according to the Star Tribune. Then, Harvin was traded to the Seahawks. So I wouldn’t rule it out just because Spielman said the Vikings have no intent of signing Harvin as of now.

Harvin tallied 3,302 receiving yards with the Vikings, the most with any team he played for in the NFL. Besides the Seahawks and Vikings, he briefly played for the Bills and the Jets.

Ex-Jets WR Percy Harvin itching for NFL comeback

Percy Harvin wants to play football again.

Percy Harvin wants to play football again.

The former Vikings, Seahawks, Jets and Bills receiver has not appeared in an NFL game since 2016 and unofficially retired for the second time the following year. Now, however, he is hoping to make a comeback, according to ESPN’s Josina Anderson.

“I thought I was done, but that itch came back,” Harvin told ESPN on Tuesday.

Harvin, 32, battled a handful of injuries and migraines during his eight years in the league. This past August, he underwent hip surgery when doctors found a blockage that may have existed since high school, according to ESPN. Since then, however, Harvin has been training with a former Olympian in hopes of continuing his NFL career. He currently weighs 185 pounds.

“My body is feeling good,” Harvin said. “Mentally I’m better. My family is good. The timing is right.”

A speedy receiver and return man during his prime, Harvin first made a name for himself with the Vikings. He spent the first four years of his career in Minnesota before winning a Super Bowl with Seattle. He was traded to New York midway through the 2014 season in exchange for a conditional pick in 2015. Harvin played eight games for the Jets, catching 29 passes for 350 yards and one touchdown. He also ran for 110 yards and totaled 495 yards on kick returns.

He then went to Buffalo, where he played just seven games over two seasons.

As of now, Harvin, the 2009 AP Offensive Rookie of the Year, has received 353 passes, 4,026 yards and 22 touchdowns for his career. He has ran for just under 1,000 yards and has returned more than 4,000 yards.
