Does Vikings WR Justin Jefferson have a chance at Rookie of the Year?

The odds aren’t great, but he’s certainly a name to watch.

The Vikings are hoping that wide receiver Justin Jefferson fills the shoes that were left empty after the team traded Stefon Diggs to the Bills.

Minnesota drafted Jefferson with the Bills’ pick from the trade and before the season has even started, Jefferson is already the favorite to be the WR2 on the team.

That might say more about the roster configuration rather than Jefferson’s skillset.

What kind of season can we expect from Jefferson? Sixty catches for 800 yards and eight touchdowns? That sounds nice.

Jefferson would need to do more to be a candidate for Offensive Rookie of the Year, something Vegas gives him 17.5-1 odds to accomplish.

The one thing on Jefferson’s side is that he should get every opportunity to find success with such limited options on this roster at wide receiver outside of Adam Thielen.

The Vikings have had five OROY winners in franchise history:

  • 1973, Chuck Foreman
  • 1976, Sammy White
  • 1998, Randy Moss
  • 2007, Adrian Peterson
  • 2009, Percy Harvin

Could Jefferson join this list? The odds aren’t great, but he’s certainly a name to watch.
