Former Crimson Tide QB, Paul Tyson, to join Clemson Tigers

Paul Tyson commits to Clemson after Arizona State stint

After two years with the Alabama Crimson Tide, Paul Tyson left Tuscaloosa in 2021 via the transfer portal. Tyson was a four-star quarterback coming out of high school and was the No. 321 overall prospect in his class.

Five days after entering the portal Tyson ended up with the Arizona State Sun Devils. The Sun Devils had a tough 2022 campaign and fired their head coach, Herm Edwards, during the season. At the conclusion of the Sun Devils’ regular season, Tyson entered the portal for a second time.

Today, he chose to join Dabo Swinney and the Clemson Tigers. He will likely be competing for a backup role behind the highly anticipated Cade Klubnik.

This is interesting considering some view Clemson as a rival of the Crimson Tide and Paul Tyson is the great-grandson of legendary Alabama head coach Paul ‘Bear’ Bryant.

Former Alabama QB Paul Tyson entering transfer portal for second time

Former Alabama QB Paul Tyson has entered the transfer portal for the second time and is looking for a third program.

On Monday, Arizona State quarterback Paul Tyson announced that he will be entering the transfer portal. Tyson formerly played for Alabama from 2019 to 2021.

Tyson is the great-grandson of legendary Alabama head coach Bear Bryant. He joined the Tide as a member of the 2019 recruiting class. The native of Trussville, Alabama served as a backup quarterback in his time with the team. He completed 10 of 16 passes for 150 yards. Following the 2021 season, he entered the transfer portal.

He ultimately chose to transfer out of Alabama to play for Arizona State. However, he played in just one game for the Sun Devils and did not record any stats. Now, he will be looking to transfer to his third destination at the college level.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow former Alabama football players in the transfer portal.

REPORT: Paul Tyson has found a new home

Paul Tyson has a new home

Earlier this week quarterback Paul Tyson announced his decision to enter the transfer portal. It is now being reported that Tyson has made a commitment to Herm Edwards and the Arizona State Sun Devils.

Tyson, who is the great-grandson of legendary Alabama head coach Paul ‘Bear’ Bryant, has spent three seasons with the team. Due to Covid, Tyson will still have three remaining years of eligibility.

The Sun Devils will be returning three-year starter Jayden Daniels at quarterback, so Tyson will have his hands full in winning a starting job this season.

Matt Zenitz of On3 Sports was first to report on Tyson’s commitment.

Multiple Alabama players have entered the transfer portal, could become Texas targets

Five Alabama players have entered the transfer portal. Could Texas be a potential landing spot?

Alabama lost the national championship on Monday night as Bryce Young threw an ill-advised pick-six to Georgia’s Kelee Ringo to ice the game.

Less than a day after the hard-fought loss, Alabama has lost five players to the transfer portal.

  • OL Tommy Brown
  • TE Jahleel Billingsley
  • LB King Mwikuta
  • LB Drew Sanders
  • QB Paul Tyson

Texas should have an advantage in recruiting a few of the Alabama transfers if they chose to reach out. These players will have some familiarity with the Texas staff containing multiple former Alabama assistants. The Longhorns were able to land running back Keilan Robinson from Alabama last offseason.

Robinson sent out a cryptic tweet after the news dropped.

It would make sense for Texas to target Billingsley, Mwikuta and Sanders as tight end and linebacker are positions of need in Austin.

Billingsley would fit right in at tight end at Texas. The former four-star played in eight games this season while he totaled 256 receiving yards and three scores. He should already have a strong understanding of Sarkisian’s offense as he played in it last season.

Linebacker is a position Texas needs to see major improvements from if they want to have a bounce-back 2022 season.

Drew Sanders is a former five-star from the state of Texas who was injured most of the 2021 season. He is an edge rusher who would fit the “Jack” position in Texas’ defense.

This marks the second trip to the transfer portal for Mwikuta. The third-year linebacker was a former top 150 prospect but has been stuck in a special teams role at Alabama.

Texas will welcome Alabama to Austin in Week 2 of the 2022 season. Potentially an intriguing storyline if any of the former tide players end up at Texas.

Alabama QB Paul Tyson enters the NCAA Transfer Portal

He will have three years of eligibility remaining.

Less than 24 hours after the college football season concluding, offseason news has begun for the Crimson Tide. Alabama sophomore quarterback Paul Tyson has announced via Twitter that he will be entering the NCAA Transfer Portal.

Tyson, who is the great grandson of legendary Alabama head coach Paul ‘Bear’ Bryant, has spent three seasons with the team, and will have three years of eligibility remaining, he states in his announcement.

The quarterback thanked coach Nick Saban, the star, his teammates and the Alabama fans for making his time with the program memorable.

In 2021, Tyson completed 10 of 16 passing attempts for 150 yards.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow Tyson as he enters the transfer portal and chooses a new program.

Alabama’s offensive stats heading into the BYE week

Here is a closer look at Alabama’s offensive stats as the Tide head into the BYE week.

Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide currently sit ranked at No. 3 with a 7-1 overall record and a 4-1 record in the SEC.

Now that the Tide has entered into its BYE week, I thought it was a good time to take a closer look at some of the team and individual stats on both sides of the football.

Today we look at the offensive side of the ball. Let’s get right to it!

First …team stats…

WATCH: Nick Saban almost gets tackled during interception return

Alabama football head coach Nick Saban was almost tackled during an interception return at A-Day.

The Alabama football team held their annual spring game this afternoon, where the White team won A-Day.

Many vital players from the 2020 championship team will no longer be with the program, so this scrimmage is a way for fans and media members to see what the new roster will look like.

Paul Tyson, a redshirt sophomore quarterback, was throwing passes for the Crimson team.

On an interception thrown by Tyson, picked off by Kristian Story, players went running to make a tackle and set blocks.

Head coach Nick Saban, who was standing behind the line of scrimmage, got tangled up and nearly taken out by his own players.

Saban made light of it, as he cracked some jokes at the press conference after the scrimmage.

LOOK: A-Day rosters released for Alabama spring game

The Crimson Tide will showcase the 2021 roster for the first time to the public during A-Day, the team’s annual spring game. The rosters …

The 2021 A-Day will be held tomorrow in Bryant Denny Stadium and will be broadcasted on ESPN at 1:00 p.m. ET.

The game is the one time a year where Alabama is expected to lose… to Alabama.

Crimson vs. White teams, and the 2021 roster will be showcased for the first time.

The Crimson Tide lost numerous crucial playmakers on both sides of the ball to the 2021 NFL draft.

Mac Jones, Jaylen Waddle, DeVonta Smith, Najee Harris, Patrick Surtain II and many others will need to be replaced heading into the new season. The spring game is the first opportunity for fans and media members to see who the new stars of the team will be.

The rosters for both teams have been released, with some noteworthy players on each team.

Paul Tyson will be on the Crimson team and Bryce Young will be on the White team. The two quarterbacks are rumored to be fighting for the starting quarterback job, with Young being the favorite to start the season.

Nick Saban comments on the state of Alabama’s ‘QB battle’

Alabama football will have a new quarterback heading into the 2021 college football season. Many believe it will be Bryce Young, but …

Alabama has not seen a true quarterback battle since before the 2018 season, where the incumbent starter, Jalen Hurts, lost the role to Tua Tagovailoa. Fans and analysts are wondering if the 2021 quarterback job is up for grabs, or if the position has a determined starter.

With Mac Jones entering the 2021 NFL draft, the Crimson Tide will have a few young quarterbacks to choose from. However, this will be the first time in a few years that the rising starter will have little-to-no playing time from prior seasons.

Many believe rising sophomore Bryce Young, the former five-star dual-threat quarterback out of California, already has the job secured. Others, however, believe that Paul Tyson could make a case for the starting position.

With spring press conferences wrapping up and A-Day tomorrow, Nick Saban has addressed the media regarding the starting quarterback job.

Charlie Potter of 247Sports quoted Saban as saying, “Bryce (Young) is the quarterback for right now, so he’s going to operate with the first team.”

Young appeard in seven games in 2020, where he completed 13 of 22 passing attempts for 156 yards and a single touchdown.

Tyson, a redshirt sophomore, has appeared in one game during his time with Alabama, but did not record any stats.

Saban’s quote points to Young being the presumed starting quarterback for the Crimson Tide in 2021.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to publish any and all updates regarding the Alabama depth chart ahead of the 2021 college football season.
