Report: Bulls forward Patrick Williams to make his return on Monday

Williams has been out since October after undergoing wrist surgery.

The Chicago Bulls will get some much needed reinforcements on Monday against the Toronto Raptors.

First reported by Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Bulls forward Patrick Williams will make his return to the lineup on Monday vs. the Raptors.

This will make for Williams’ first game since undergoing wrist surgery in late-October.

The Bulls have been hit hard by injuries this season, as Lonzo Ball and Alex Caruso, alongside Williams, have missed significant amount of time away from the team. Caruso just returned the floor on March 12 after being out since late-January.

For Lonzo, he’s yet to return as his rehab hasn’t gone as planned. Billy Donovan spoke on Friday that Ball’s knee ‘has not responded’ as the training staff has attempted to ramp up his rehab.

Stay tuned to Lonzo Wire for updates on Williams’ return to the lineup.

Report: Patrick Williams ‘targeting return’ to Bulls lineup next week

The Bulls forward has been sidelined since October due to wrist surgery.

The Chicago Bulls are expected to get reinforcements in the coming weeks as the playoffs rapidly approach.

First reported by Shams Charania of The Athletic, forward Patrick Williams is ‘targeting return’ to the floor for the Bulls next week. Williams was assigned to the Bulls’ G League affiliate, the Windy City Bulls to continue ramping up for his return.

Williams only played in five games this season before requiring wrist surgery in October.

The return of Williams will help bolster the Bulls’ front line and defense as the absence of Williams and Lonzo Ball has hindered Chicago on the defensive end of the floor.

Stay tuned to Lonzo Wire for updates on Patrick Williams’ return.

The Bulls won at the NBA trade deadline by standing Pat

The Bulls got better by resting on their laurels. Who among us.

The NBA trade deadline is usually full of monster plot twists, swings, and turns. Thursday was no exception. The NBA did not disappoint from a host of quality teams adding depth and rotation players (and less so) to bona fide title contenders like the 76ers nabbing James Harden. What is The Association, if not for superstars and good players featured in new cities seemingly every year?

But there was one notable team missing from the fracas of Adrian Wojnarowski and Shams Charania’s Twitter accounts: The Chicago Bulls.

The Bulls currently sit in third place in the Eastern Conference. That’s despite missing basically half of their core players like Alex Caruso, Lonzo Ball, and Patrick Williams. In a year where All-Star starter DeMar DeRozan is arguably having the best season of his career, it might have paid off to add a player or two, perhaps even trading the 2020 No. 4 overall pick in Williams. You never know when a title window will manifest and, just as quickly, when it’ll disappear. It’s a cruel league in a cruel sport.

Tipico Sportsbook has the Bulls with just the fifth-best odds to win the East (+1500), behind the Heat, 76ers, Bucks, and Nets. That’s not even taking into account other up-and-comers right in line with Chicago like the Cavs and Raptors, who improved with additions of Caris Levert and Thaddeus Young, respectively.

Instead, team president Arturas Karnisovas, who spearheaded the Bulls’ resurgence, decided to stand Pat. Get it? Oh, it’s okay. I’ll see myself out.

It is vital to note that the Bulls have been more banged-up than their counterparts. Whereas most of the other Eastern heavyweights have generally had the full complement of their lineups, the Bulls are now effectively using a six-man rotation– in February, no less–without each of Caruso, Ball and Williams. We don’t really know how good this team is or what they’re capable of.

For an organization with quality future potential pieces like Williams, it makes perfect sense not to trade him for short-term gain.

Come March, the Bulls expect to have a healthy roster again (knock on wood). Unfortunately, the deadline came this early, but then again, the Bulls had nothing to gain by pushing their chips in while this banged up. They may well still make a deep playoff run. Heck, they might even win the East. Who knows? We don’t understand enough of their entire roster together to say a trade would’ve been the right move otherwise.

Besides, this is incredibly important: They have to save some of their current guys for a sign-and-trade for the Nuggets’ Nikola Jokic. Anyone? Anyone? Oh, we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it, too.

Woj: Patrick Williams out for season with left wrist dislocation

The sophomore forward will miss the rest of the regular season.

Just as the Chicago Bulls are off to a 4-1 start to the 2021-22 season, the injury bug has hit.

On Wednesday, Shams Charania of The Athletic reported that Zach LaVine suffered a small ligament tear in the thumb on his non-shooting hand as LaVine continues to play through the injury.

On Friday, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reported that Patrick Williams will miss the rest of the regular season with a left wrist dislocation.

Per Wojnarowski, Williams suffered a perilunate dislocation, which head coach Billy Donovan called a “pretty significant wrist injury” with hopes that he could potentially return come playoff time.

Without Williams in the lineup, look for Javonte Green to step into the starting lineup, who started three preseason games in Williams’ absence.

In five games this season, Williams averaged 6.6 points and 2.2 rebounds in 25 minutes per game.

Chicago Bulls player grades from opening night win over Pistons

Here are the individual player grades as the Chicago Bulls beat the Detroit Pistons on the road.

The Chicago Bulls pulled off a nail-biting victory on opening night against the Detroit Pistons, 94-88.

This wasn’t the offensive onslaught that the Bulls showed during their undefeated preseason schedule but the stout defense remained as they got stop after stop down the stretch to hold off the Pistons on the road. The outside noise looking down upon the individual defense of certain Bulls players sure was quiet tonight.

All-Star Zach LaVine led the way for Chicago with 34 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists on 11-of-17 shooting, including hitting clutch free throws with under a minute to go. Nikola Vucevic finished with his first double-double of the season with 15 points, 15 rebounds, and 4 assists.

DeMar DeRozan finished with 17 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, and 3 steals in his Bulls debut. Also in his debut, Lonzo Ball added 12 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists.

Patrick Williams, Desmond Bane and the players who were handed the keys at summer league

After a brief hiatus, there are a ton of reasons why the basketball world was glad to have Las Vegas Summer League back on the schedule.

After a brief hiatus, there are a ton of reasons why the basketball world was glad to have Las Vegas Summer League back on the schedule.

While summer league was unfortunately canceled in 2020, the even took place once again this year. Fans have already seen star rookies such as Cade Cunningham and Jalen Green make their pro debuts. They have also seen LiAngelo Ball play particularly well for the Charlotte Hornets.

But as noted by Derek Murray, one of the main benefits of summer league is that NBA teams can allow their younger role players to get more reps on the ball. Players who are typically off-ball shooters or slashers may get the nod to initiate offense for their squad.

Below, we have outlined some of the players around the league who have made the most of their opportunity as the primary creator for their teams in summer league action.

Although these players may not be afforded such looks during NBA action because they’re surrounded by more star power during the regular season, it is incredibly helpful for their long-term development and gives teams a sense of what these players can eventually become.

Note that all player roles are defined by their play-type usage based on the offensive archetype definitions provided by BBall-Index.com. All stats are pulled from Synergy Sports Tech unless specifically noted otherwise.

NBA free agency: Projected starting lineup for Bulls with Lonzo Ball

When free agency began on Monday, one of the first biggest dominos to fall was a sign-and-trade that sent Lonzo Ball to the Chicago Bulls.

When free agency began on Monday, one of the first biggest dominos to fall was a sign-and-trade that sent Lonzo Ball to the Chicago Bulls.

Chicago has reportedly coveted Ball since at least May 2019, as we wrote when we discussed Ball’s fit on the Bulls surrounding the trade deadline in Feb. 2021.

As an up-tempo playmaker who has increased both his willingness and his effectiveness as a shooter, Ball will be a welcome addition in the backcourt. He will have plenty of opportunities to set up the offense for his high-usage teammates in Zach LaVine and Nikola Vucevic.

Defensively, the 6-foot-6 guard brags good positional size and he has typically been able to add more value on that end of the floor than both LaVine and Coby White have provided.

This could be a great place for the former No. 2 overall pick to reinvent his career after stops on the Los Angeles Lakers and the New Orleans Pelicans.
