Patrick Mahomes injury update

In this week’s report, the team revealed he also has an issue with his hip, but he fully participated in practices conducted by the Chiefs while they prepared for Sunday’s game.

How long will Patrick Mahomes be out?

Mahomes is not expected to miss the action this afternoon. He will be under center for Kansas City in Week 11.

Chiefs QB depth chart

Mahomes rolled his ankle earlier this season, and has seemed to aggravate the injury multiple times over the Chiefs’ past few games.

He was also listed with a hip injury this week.

The team has not indicated that Mahomes’ condition is serious or likely to affect his availability against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.

Mahomes’ ankle and hip injuries did not limit his ability to practice with the team this week. Mahomes is expected to play in Buffalo.

While Mahomes is slated to be on the field Sunday, if a situation arises where he needs to leave the game, Kansas City will be dependent on backup quarterback Carson Wentz to lead Andy Reid’s offense.

Wentz has yet to fill in for Mahomes under center this season. However, the tested veteran is more than capable of taking over if need be.

Chiefs vs. Bills Week 11: How to watch, listen and stream

See everything you need to know to watch the Kansas City #Chiefs’ Week 11 matchup against the Buffalo #Bills on Sunday.

The Kansas City Chiefs remain undefeated heading into Week 11 and are looking to keep their perfect season alive against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.

The Chiefs’ offense struggled last week, tallying only 300 net yards and one touchdown against a struggling Denver Broncos team.

If not for Leo Chenal’s heroic blocked field goal as time expired, Kansas City would have taken its first loss of the season at the hands of its bitter AFC West rivals.

Star running back Isiah Pacheco and veteran pass rusher Charles Omeinhu returned to practice the week, but will be unavailable for the Chiefs on Sunday.

A win for Kansas City this weekend will all but ensure that the Chiefs have a favorable seeing in the AFC playoffs.

Bills vs. Chiefs: 3 key matchups to watch in Week 11

Bills vs. Chiefs: 3 key matchups to watch in Week 11

The Buffalo Bills will host the Kansas City Chiefs in their upcoming Week 11 matchup.

Even though these two teams are extremely familiar with one another, it will still be the games, within the game, that will make all the difference.

Here are three key matchups to watch during Sunday’s Bills-Chiefs contest:

Bills running backs vs. Chiefs front seven

USA TODAY Sports

The Bills have enjoyed a resurgence in their running game this year. James Cook has had 80 or more rushing yards in three of his last five games, and he has five rushing touchdowns over that stretch. Buffalo has found a true complement to Josh Allen’s passing game. But, rushing yards should be tougher to come by this week.

The Chiefs allow the third-fewest rushing yards per game this year (83.2). And, advanced metrics back up their play, too. Kansas City ranks second in the NFL in defense rushing DVOA.

Whoever wins this matchup will play a big role in the game. If the Bills can run the ball effectively, it will open up anything they want to do on offense. If they can’t, they’ll have to rely on the arm and legs of Allen.

DE Greg Rousseau vs. LT Wanya Morris

Getty Images

Kansas City’s left tackle has had his struggles this year, and he’s coming off a knee injury in Week 10. Rousseau, on the other hand, is having his best season as a pro.

Morris ranks as the 62nd-best offensive tackle in the NFL according to Pro Football Focus, while Rousseau grades as the eighth-best pass rusher among edge defenders.

Rousseau has just 5.5 sacks through ten games, but he has been consistently getting after the passer. He ranks fourth in the NFL with 19 QB knockdowns and is tied for 10th in the NFL with 22 pressures.

Patrick Mahomes vs. the second level of Bills’ D

Getty Images

The Chiefs quarterback loves to get the ball out quickly in head coach Andy Reid’s offense. They put a lot of trust in their skill players to catch underneath passes and produce yards after the catch. In turn, this puts a lot of stress on Bills defenders to make plays in space.

More specifically, Buffalo’s linebackers (and slot corner Taron Johnson) will have their hands full while trying to stop the run, cover the pass, and make sound tackles in space.

When these teams met in the divisional round of last season’s playoffs, the Bills were without Terrel Bernard in the middle of the defense. They had trouble on defense in that game, so we will see what kind of difference Bernard can make in this rivalry.

3 keys to a Bills victory vs. the Chiefs in Week 11

3 keys to a Bills victory vs. the Chiefs in Week 11

The Buffalo Bills will play the Kansas City Chiefs at home at Highmark Stadium in Week 11.

The Bills (8-2) are looking to build on a five-game win streak, while the Chiefs (9-0) haven’t lost since Christmas Day in 2023.

Buffalo is favored to win by 2.5 points in this one. In the Patrick Mahomes-Josh Allen era, the Chiefs hold the advantage over the Bills, winning four of the seven meetings. However, Buffalo is 3-1 in the regular season against KC.

Even though the Bills are favored, the Chiefs are undefeated for a reason.

The Bills will need to execute their game plan to pick up their ninth win of the year.

With that, here are three keys to a Bills win in Week 11:

Make stops on third down

USA Today Sports

The Chiefs have the NFL’s best third-down offense. They convert on third downs 52% of the time. They can stay on the field longer because they convert on the most crucial down more than anyone. Kansas City leads the league in time of possession.

Although the Chiefs offense isn’t as explosive as they have been in past years (11th in points per game), they don’t have to be. Kansas City keeps the opposing team’s offense off the field and limit points from the opposition. If the Bills defense could get off the field on some crucial third downs, it would improve their chances greatly.

Make drives count

Getty Images

Because the Chiefs dominate time of possession, their defense has seen only 87 drives so far this year, which is the least in the NFL. That means, on average, opposing teams only get about 9.5 drives per game. If you are Buffalo, you need to make those possessions count.

The more drives that end in a touchdown for the Bills, the more difficult it will be for the Chiefs to play their 2024 brand of football. Every possession in the NFL is something to be cherished, but against a team like the Chiefs, you must take advantage of opportunities when you get them. They don’t come around often for Kansas City’s opponents this year.

Get pressure on Mahomes

USA Today Sports

The Chiefs have had difficulty at their left tackle position this year. Rookie Kingsley Suamataia got the nod to start the year but was replaced by Wanya Morris in Week 3 due to performance. Morris, although more consistent than Suamataia, still struggles at times. He has received a 56.4 offense grade this year according to Pro Football Focus, which ranks 62nd in the NFL among tackles.

Bills edge rushers, Greg Rousseau in particular, should be in line for opportunities to get after Mahomes in Week 11.

The Chiefs have allowed four sacks in each of their last two games, and the Bills defense is coming off of a four-sack outing against the Indianapolis Colts.

Saints have spent more time leading this year than the NFL’s only unbeaten team

The Saints have an advantage in this surprising stat, but it hasn’t translated to success. They’ve spent more time leading than the NFL’s only unbeaten team:

If you needed any further proof that the NFL is a game of moments, look at the New Orleans Saints and Kansas City Chiefs.

Patrick Mahomes and the defending Super Bowl champions have spent less time this year leading the opposition than the Saints. By that stat you’d assume, at the least, the Saints are having a season on par with the Chiefs. That couldn’t be further from the truth.

The Saints currently sit at 3-7 and had a top-5five pick in the NFL draft a week ago. The Chiefs are the NFL’s only undefeated team. These teams are on drastically different paths.

This stat highlights one thing. In clutch moments, the Chiefs rise to the occasion while the Saints falter. Part of the reason the Saints have led for so long this season is they were in the lead for nearly the entire first two games. However late collapses also led to long periods of leaving without ending with a victory.

Kansas City, however, knows how to get victories. They’ve played in close games, but they know how to make timely plays to win. That’s why they have led for 23 less minutes than the Saints but have six more wins.

Retired NFL TE Ben Utecht discusses ‘Shower Sock,’ Chiefs offense under Patrick Mahomes

Retired NFL TE Ben Utecht discusses ‘Shower Sock,’ #Chiefs offense under Patrick Mahomes w/ @EdEastonJr

This week, Chiefs Wire’s Ed Easton Jr. spoke to former Indianapolis Colts tight end Ben Utecht.

In his interview with Easton Jr., Utecht discussed his inspiration for developing the Shower Sockᵀᴹ after dealing with a painful condition and his thoughts on Patrick Mahomes’ unique success in the Kansas City Chiefs offense.

“When I was playing in Cincinnati with the Bengals, I contracted a pretty severe foot fungus injury that took three to four months to diagnose and cure, and it was the first time that had ever happened to that level,” said Utecht. “I mean, an athlete’s foot is pretty rampant across the world, but I got a different type of infection, which was very painful.

“It caused scarring in between my toes because of the skin cracking. And it was painful. I could practice and play through it, but it was definitely on my mind, which you never want as an athlete. You want to be able to focus completely on what your job is.”

After experiencing a terrible foot infection, Utecht was inspired to create the Shower Sockᵀᴹ so that others would not have to endure the same experience.

“So when I retired and entered civilian fitness life, I was at a leading national fitness brand, in their locker room, sitting in their steam room, and just couldn’t believe it,” Utecht explained. “What the floors look like. I remember sitting there thinking Man, I’ve never been a flip-flop wearer. I’ve never enjoyed wearing sandals in the shower. Because you’re just taking those sandals and throwing them back in your gym bag, and you don’t clean them. You never disinfect them.

“I thought, man, has anybody ever made a disposable antibacterial and fungal shower sock I can put on to wash my foot with preventative applications that shield me from bacteria and fungus? Then I can throw it away, and it’s highly affordable, so I can protect my foot cheaply every time I step onto a tile floor. To my surprise, it has never been created.”

Utecht has shifted his focus from football to leading the charge to save millions of athletes’ feet. He expressed his appreciation for Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes’s work with his feet on the field as part of his fantastic skillset.

“You’ve got somebody like Patrick (Mahomes), who is very dangerous outside the pocket. That enhances your ability as an offense to put the defense in compromising situations, and it also changes your attitude as an offensive skill player, right?” said Utecht. “Because when you have a pocket passer, you know you’re significantly dependent upon the routes in their current physical expectation, but when you have an outside, when you have someone that can get outside and is incredibly mobile.

“Now you have to be ready on every single play to adjust that route, to adapt to his mobility, to make plays and to get open. So there’s a whole other level to the route that gets incorporated into a Patrick Mahomes offense. That’s systematized, and those receivers on the Chiefs do it very well Because of the hours upon hours of practice that make that offensive scheme perfect.”

This key stat stands out in Kyler Murray’s success with 1st-place Cardinals

Arizona Cardinals QB Kyler Murray has elitism that is represented by one key 2024 NFL passing statistic.

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray has undoubtedly had his career edified by head coach Jonathan Gannon this NFL season. Murray’s elitism is represented by one key statistic keeping the offense on schedule.

Murray ranks No. 6 among NFL quarterbacks with a completion percentage of 69.2%. For perspective, sitting ahead of Murray at No. 5 in this category is Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. That is great company.

Murray has just 2,058 total yards passing through Week 10, so it is clear that Gannon isn’t expecting Murray to be a high-volume guy. Instead, Gannon has used Murray’s rhythmic play style to an advantage, sequencing in QB running plays and RPO to give Murray easy reads in the pass game.

At State Farm Stadium this past Sunday, Murray ignited a 17-0 Cardinals’ scoring run when he threw a precision touchdown pass to wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. in the second quarter.

Ultimately, as long as Gannon continues to establish the running game, he can bait defenses into playing man coverage where opponents will be susceptible to both the athleticism of the Cardinals skills players, and impeccable throwing accuracy of Murray.

Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes comments on friendship with Josh Allen: ‘We’re both competitors’

Kansas City #Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes comments on friendship with Josh Allen: ‘We’re both competitors’ | @EdEastonJr

Kansas City Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes and every NFL quarterback share a unique bond because of their responsibilities in leading a team on the field. In some cases, bonds are formed off the field, and they occasionally show up during crucial games when facing off against one another.

During his weekly press conference on Wednesday, Mahomes spoke candidly about his friendship with Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen.

“We still stay in touch,” Mahomes explained. “I mean, especially in the off-season, just kind of with our love for golf and being around the people. And I know Shane Buechele, and he was here, and now he’s there, so he’s a really good dude.

“I think that’s why his team plays so hard for him. But I mean, obviously, we’re both competitors, so in the season, not as much talking as we’re both going for that ultimate goal, the Super Bowl, but at the same time, there’s a ton of respect both ways.”

The friends have consistently battled each other over the past few seasons. The most recent meeting was in the AFC divisional round, with Mahomes emerging victorious. The two face off again in Buffalo this Sunday, with high stakes once again as each team seeks control of the AFC in the second half of the season.

#Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes is dealing with ankle and hip injuries. Here are the latest updates.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is known for his toughness and tenacity, and he will need to channel all of his resistance for the defending Super Bowl champions’ Week 11 matchup against the Buffalo Bills.

Mahomes has taken some hard hits in Kansas City’s recent games, but he was a full participant in the Chiefs’ practice session on Wednesday despite being listed on the team’s injury report.

Patrick Mahomes injury update

Mahomes was listed with ankle and hip injuries, but it didn’t affect his ability to run through drills with his teammates on Wednesday.

He is expected to play against the Bills on Sunday, assuming that his injuries don’t get worse through the rest of the week.

How long will Patrick Mahomes be out?

Mahomes isn’t expected to miss any time due to his current injuries, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see Andy Reid decide to pull him out of Kansas City’s matchup against Buffalo if the Chiefs get out to a big lead.

Chiefs QB depth chart

If Mahomes needs to be sidelined, Kansas City can count on veteran signal-caller Carson Wentz to lead its offense.
