Lamar Jackson finished with perfect passer rating as Ravens demolish Broncos 41-10

Baltimore quarterback Lamar Jackson finished with a perfect passer rating in Week 10 as the Ravens defeated the Broncos 41-10

The Ravens spent all week talking about removing the taste of an ugly loss to the Browns in Week 8. John Harbaugh’s team responded solidly, dominating the upstart Broncos 41-10 at M&T Bank Stadium.

Denver entered the game 5-3 with the NFL’s third-ranked defense, but the Baltimore offense shredded them, as Vance Joseph’s defense surrendered 396 yards and five touchdowns on the afternoon.

With talk about Josh Allen potentially winning MVP, Jackson completed 16 of 19 passes for 280 yards and three touchdowns on Sunday, marking his fourth perfect passer rating.

Derrick Henry finished with 101 yards rushing and two touchdowns, moving past Barry Sanders for 10th on the all-time touchdowns list and going over 1,000 yards for the sixth time in his career.

Zay Flowers had another 100-yard game, finishing with 127 yards receiving and two touchdowns.

On defense, Zach Orr’s unit surrendered 319 yards, including 197 passing and, most importantly, just ten points.

Baltimore will now prepare for Cincinnati on a short week and Amazon’s Thursday Night Football.

Pat Surtain II picks off Gardner Minshew, returns it 100 yards for score

Pat Surtain II picked off a pass and returned it 100 yards for a score

You don’t want to test Pat Surtain II when playing the Denver Broncos. Nothing good usually happens if you do.

The Las Vegas Raiders’ Gardner Minshew threw at Surtain and the elite DB picked off the pass and was off and running like a bronco.

Surtain’s 100-yard pick-six was followed by a PAT that tied the game at 10 after the Raiders had led 10-0.

NFL week 4: Will the Jets attack Broncos’ DB Pat Surtain II?

NFL week 4: Will the Jets attack Broncos’ DB Pat Surtain II?

The New York Jets should not enter NFL week 4 taking the Denver Broncos lightly, especially with defensive back Patrick Surtain II on their depth chart.

Over the last two weeks, the Broncos have held opponents to an average of 10 points per game. Sure, Denver hasn’t played a quarterback with the caliber of Aaron Rodgers this season but they are looking to challenge the Jets’ offensive in the absence of tackle Morgan Moses.

Offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett should not get too experimental with his play calling, that is, until the Jets see their attack catch rhythm.

Hackett’s quick passing attack will be met by the physicality and quickness of Surtain, so opting for zone runs and back shoulder throws to wide receivers Garrett Wilson and Mike Williams make sense.

The Jets ruled the time of possession stat category in week 3, converting a total of 27 first downs. However, the Broncos defense did produce seven sacks in their last match-up and are planning to stifle the Jets offense if they happen to get off track.

3 star WRs say Broncos’ Pat Surtain is hardest CB to play against

Davante Adams, Justin Jefferson, and Amon-Ra St. Brown all listed Pat Surtain as the hardest cornerback to play against the NFL.

Pat Surtain has gotten his fair share of accolades and praise this offseason, but respect from his fellow NFL peers may top it all.

Top NFL wide receivers Davante Adams, Justin Jefferson, and Amon-Ra St. Brown all believe that the Broncos cornerback is the hardest defender to play against in today’s game.

The three WRs who appeared on the hit Netflix show “Receiver” gave Surtain his flowers as they recapped the show. Adams praised Surtain for his size and measurables, which made it hard for him to break away as a receiver.

Surtain’s 2023 season garnered him his second consecutive Pro Bowl nod. He finished the year with 69 tackles, one interception and 12 pass deflections.

While the stats Surtain displayed are not gaudy, his play shutting down receivers has made him a critical darling. With the 2024 NFL season, we can only hope that Surtain continues his high level of play as he tries to get Denver to reach new heights.

Only one Bronco made Pete Prisco’s list of top 100 NFL players

Pete Brisco of CBS Sports ranked Broncos CB Pat Surtain No. 25 on his list of the top 100 players in the NFL.

Pete Brisco of CBS Sports recently released his list of the Top 100 players in the NFL and only one Denver Broncos player made the cut.

The only Bronco to make the cut is star cornerback Pat Surtain, ranked No. 25. Denver guard Quinn Meinerz got an honorable mention, too.

“Playing on a bad team, he has established himself as one of the best corners in the game — if not the best,” Brisco wrote for CBS Sports. “His play tailed off some after a special 2022 season, but he still is in the mix to be considered the best in the league.”

PS2 also made the list last year, ranked No. 19. The fourth-year cornerback has totaled 187 tackles, 36 pass breakups and seven interceptions through his first 50 games in the NFL.

A two-time Pro Bowler and one-time first-team All-Pro, Surtain has quickly established himself as one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL. There are plenty more accolades in store for PS2 going forward.

Broncos CB Pat Surtain makes list of NFL’s top 25 players 25 and under

Broncos CB Pat Surtain is ranked 13th on this list of the NFL’s top 25 players 25 and under.

Denver Broncos fourth-year cornerback Pat Surtain recently made Cody Benjamin’s list of the top 25 NFL players under 25 on CBS Sports.

Surtain’s resume three years in is rock solid: two Pro Bowl nods and a first-team All-Pro nomination, too. As an anchor of the Broncos’ defense, he has established a reputation as a lockdown cornerback, deflecting 36 passes and intercepting the ball seven times in his career.

Although there have been minor slippage in his interceptions each year, Surtain still made Benjamin’s list as the 13th-best player under 25.

“Expectations have always been high for Surtain, the son of a former Pro Bowl corner,” Benjamin wrote on CBS Sports. “That’s yet to be an issue, as he’s had at least 10 pass deflections in each of his three seasons. While his pick totals have dropped since his rookie year, he’s been reliable on an otherwise rebuilding roster.”

Surtain will attempt to help Denver reach the playoffs for the first time since 2015 this fall. Entering his second season in Vance Joseph’s defense, PS2 seems poised to have a big year.

Broncos star Pat Surtain ranked as NFL’s 4th-best cornerback

Touchdown Wire ranked Pat Surtain as the fourth-best cornerback in the NFL. A little too low in our estimation.

Touchdown Wire’s Doug Farrar recently ranked Denver Broncos cornerback Pat Surtain as the fourth-best cornerback in the NFL.

Surtain has built quite the resume in his young career as a two-time Pro Bowler and a first-team All-Pro selection in 2022. And with last season’s stats — 69 tackles, 12 passes defended, and one interception — it’s easy to understand why Farrar ranked Surtain in his top-five corners.

“Surtain still managed to set himself apart,” Farrar wrote. “In 2023, he allowed 56 catches on 89 targets for 701 yards, 202 yards after the catch, three touchdowns, one interception, 12 pass breakups, and an opponent passer rating of 93.9.”

Farrar stated that Surtain gets shown some grace: performing at an elite level despite the level of performance around him defensively suffering.

“You have to give Surtain some grace for maintaining a standard of performance when everything was cratering around him, and in 2023, he improved on locking down his transitions in intermediate and deep coverage — one of my rare hesitations about him in previous years when it came to ranking him at the top of the field.”

Who are the players ranked above him? Sauce Gardner, L’Jarius Sneed, and Jaylon Johnson are great company for Surtain. To view the complete rankings of outside cornerbacks, visit Touchdown Wire.

Bill Barnwell floats idea of Rams trading two 1st-rounders for CB Pat Surtain II

In Bill Barnwell’s trade-filled mock draft, he floats the idea of the Rams trading two first-rounders for Broncos CB Pat Surtain II

If there’s a team that could swing a big trade for a proven veteran before or during the NFL draft this year, it’s the Los Angeles Rams. They’ve done it before, landing players such as Brandin Cooks, Jalen Ramsey and Matthew Stafford for first-round picks during Sean McVay’s tenure.

There are no indications they’ll make such a blockbuster move in the next week, but nothing can ever be ruled out with Les Snead and McVay.

ESPN’s Bill Barnwell has one potential target for the Rams to consider, however. That player is Broncos cornerback Pat Surtain II. In Barnwell’s annual mock draft where he comes up with a trade for each team in Round 1, he pitched the idea of the Rams acquiring Surtain in a massive deal with the Broncos.

Broncos get: 1-19, 2025 first-round pick, 3-99
Rams get: CB Pat Surtain, 2026 fifth-round pick

Barnwell isn’t suggesting the Rams will make such a move and he has no inside information, but he’s simply sharing a trade that “might make sense,” as he put it.

There aren’t many players who are simultaneously playing at that level and for a team that’s rebuilding.

The Broncos might be the lone exception, which is why a Surtain deal would be plausible. The Rams already showed they were willing to spend this much for a complete cornerback when they acquired Ramsey in 2019, and Surtain might be the former Jags star’s successor as the league’s best player at the position. Surtain is excellent in coverage on the outside and in the slot, capable of shadowing the opposing team’s top wide receiver, and is physical enough to hold his own as a tackler. He just turned 24 on Sunday and will make a combined $23.3 million over the next two years with his fifth-year option, giving L.A. plenty of runway as it negotiates a new extension with him.

If the Rams were going to make such a significant move at cornerback this offseason, it likely would’ve come before they signed both Darious Williams and Tre’Davious White. While neither cornerback should prevent the Rams from acquiring a young cornerback, particularly one of Surtain’s caliber, those signings do make it less likely for a trade like this one to happen.

There are no indications the Broncos want to trade Surtain, who’s their best player on the roster, but as Barnwell notes, they’re rebuilding and could use as many assets as they can get – especially if they want to move up for a quarterback in this year’s draft.

As unlikely as this trade is to happen, it’s fun to think about the Rams acquiring yet another young star, even if it rids fans of seeing them make a first-round pick for another two years.

Broncos CB Pat Surtain ranked 32nd on PFF’s Top 101 Players list

PFF has released its list of the top 101 players in the NFL and Broncos CB Pat Surtain is ranked No. 32.

Denver Broncos cornerback Pat Surtain has made the Pro Football Focus list of their 101 best players from the 2022 NFL season. Pro Football Focus uses its cutting-edge data to track a player’s impact, and Surtain’s play landed him at No. 32 on the list. PFF’s Sam Monson spoke on Surtain’s placement on the list, highlighting Surtain’s ability to lock down his opponents.

“Surtain is one of the game’s smoothest and most in-control cornerbacks, Monson wrote. “With Denver’s offense struggling, pressure was always on the defense to lock down opponents, and Surtain consistently excelled at that task. Only Sauce Gardner had a higher PFF coverage grade this season.”

Surtain’s play landed him above other star cornerbacks, such as Jalen Ramsey, Stephon Gilmore, and Patrick Peterson. He would finish the season with ten passes defended and two interceptions, allowing just over 58% of completions thrown his way. Congrats to Surtain on this tremendous honor for the 2022 season.
