Jets’ Aaron Rodgers tells Pat McAfee Show he’s happy to be back

New York Jets QB Aaron Rodgers on the Pat McAfee Show following Week 1 loss to San Francisco 49ers.

Aaron Rodgers was hurt against the San Francisco 49ers, thankfully it was only emotionally.

A brutal 32-19 loss in Week 1 will do that, especially with the ups and mostly downs the team had. Regardless, Rodgers was thankful following the game and a day later when making his season debut on the Pat McAfee Show.

Rodgers described his return after missing essentially the entire 2023 season as one that made him feel “gratitude.”

Rodgers’ full breakdown on his return can be found in the clip below:

Peyton Manning wants Jayden Daniels or Caleb Williams to break his NFL rookie record

It’s not the record you think.

Peyton Manning broke a lot of NFL records throughout his 18-year NFL career. After passing for over 71,000 yards and throwing 539 touchdowns, Manning retired after the 2015 season as a Super Bowl champion and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2021.

These days, Manning and his younger brother, Eli, hosts “ManningCast,” the popular show that gives fans an alternate broadcast of Monday Night Football. The Manning Brothers host the show, offer commentary on the game, and are joined by high-profile guests throughout each episode.

To promote the first episode of “ManningCast,” Manning was a guest on Monday’s “Pat McAfee Show,” where he discussed one of his NFL records.

You know, rookie quarterbacks, it’s always a little struggle with me; I would like to get that interception record that I hold broken,” Manning said. “I don’t want (Denver Broncos rookie quarterback) Bo Nix to break it. I don’t want Bo Nix to break it, but you know if a quarterback in Washington (Jayden Daniels) or Chicago (Caleb Williams) wants to break it….I’m still pulling for them, I’m a quarterback fan, but I got to get that one off my resume.”

Manning threw an NFL rookie-record 28 interceptions back in 1998.

“Here’s my message to coaches. I’m a big Daniels fan. I like Williams. I like (Patriots QB) Drake Maye. (Vikings QB J.J.) McCarthy is going to be a good player, so is Falcons QB Michael) Penix. But these guys that are starting this year, Bo, Daniels, Williams, if they struggle early, leave him in there. Don’t take him out because that’s the only way you’re going to get to 28 interceptions.”

We think Manning was joking — sort of. He surely would like to see someone break that record, but he does root for all quarterbacks.

In Week 1, Williams and Daniels did not throw an interception, but Nix did throw two.

Nowadays, it’s unlikely a coach would leave a rookie quarterback in the lineup long enough for them to throw 28 interceptions, much to Manning’s chagrin.

ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit thinks 2024 might be Oregon Ducks’ championship year

Kirk Herbstreit went on the Pat McAfee Show Wednesday and said he thinks the Oregon Ducks may win the national championship in 2024.

Most people in the know and average fans out there just assume the Oregon Ducks will be pretty good in 2024 as they enter their first season as a member of the Big Ten Conference. They also just assume that with the expanded playoff format of 12 teams, odds are the Ducks will be one of those dozen teams in the postseason.

But leave it to ESPN lead college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit to drop a bomb on the Pat McAfee Show. In that interview, Herbstreit let it slip that not only will Oregon make the playoffs, but come out as the team holding the big trophy at the end.

“It’s like the season didn’t happen. No one is talking about Sherrone Moore and Michigan other than their own fans,” he said. “Look out for ol’ Oregon. Look out for the ol’ Oregon Ducks. I may have Oregon winning it all. If you quote me, I said, ‘I MAY have Oregon winning it all.'”

McAfee mentioned that Ducks head coach Dan Lanning will be in studio to talk to the show and he’ll definitely respond to Herbstreit’s prediction on Thursday.

Could an NFL 18-game schedule be coming soon?

The 18-game schedule is picking up momentum.

As if they don’t already play too many games, the NFL owners are going to give their players an 18th regular-season game.

Monday, on the “Pat McAfee Show,” ESPN NFL analyst Adam Schefter broke the news that the NFL continues to move forward with the plan, including an 18-game regular season schedule.

“If we go back to when the conversation of more games (more than the 16-game schedule) started, the NFL started out of the block talking about 18 games, and it sounded like that was roundly dismissed. I think the league did a pretty smart thing. They went from 16 to 17 games. Rather than taking one big giant step, they said, let’s take little steps, and we will get to where we are going over time. But it is not going to be as quickly as we would like it to be.”

And now that Joe Burrow is even talking about the 18 games? To me it just seems like there is a momentum to this. I don’t think it is real right now, but it is only a matter of time before it does get real. And when you get to the 18 games, in my mind, it’s going to be about money. It’s always going to be about the money.”

The players had their opportunity in March 2020 to vote down the 17-game schedule. But in a very close vote the extra game received 51.5% approval (1,019 to 959) from players.

In 1978, the NFL moved away from an absolutely horrible six-game preseason schedule, cutting it by two games. Instead, they launched a 16-game regular season schedule.

The NFL minimum base salary for a rookie will be $795,000 in 2024, up from $750,000. All first-round selections receive four-year deals, with a fifth-year team option.

The players are to blame as well. They should negotiate for their health, not merely always more money. So, there will be an 18th game added whenever the owners put the deal together.

It will add at least one more week to the season because the teams may insist on being given a second bye week. Also, get ready for it. The owners will also work in more atrocious, unfair scheduling of games on more nights of the week.

Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes supports Austin Rivers’ NBA vs. NFL take

#Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes weighed in on a debate about the differences between NBA and NFL players, | @EdEastonJr

The sports comment heard worldwide occurred on a recent Pat McAfee show episode with a former pro basketball player. Austin Rivers played eleven years in the NBA before moving to an analyst role at the start of this season, and he’s already made an impression that players from two leagues, including the Kansas City Chiefs starting quarterback, are debating.

During his appearance on the former Pro Bowl punter’s popular ESPN show, Rivers shared his thoughts on the adaptability of NBA and NFL players.

“I can take 30 players right now in the NBA and throw them in the NFL,” said Rivers. “You cannot take 30 NFL players and put them in the NBA.”

The quote has opened the door for players from both sports to look at the comments, either supporting Rivers or dismissing him. During his courtside visit to the Dallas Mavericks and Oklahoma City Thunder NBA Playoffs game on Saturday, Patrick Mahomes supported Rivers’ theory.

During the Mavericks’ game three victory broadcast, Mahomes stopped by the commentary desk to suggest that the Thunder’s starting forward, Lu Dort, could play linebacker in today’s NFL.

Dort is a 25-year-old defensive specialist for Oklahoma City. He is 6’4, 220 pounds, and caught the eye of Mahomes on the opposing sidelines of his favorite team. The three-time Super Bowl champion can genuinely put himself in that conversation with his history of playing multiple sports as a youth and confidence displayed in previous discussions with all-time NBA greats.

Mahomes could have been scouting the next great linebacker for the Chiefs while enjoying the NBA game.

Adam Schefter: Vikings and Giants ‘most interested’ in trading up

On the Pat McAfee show, Adam Schefter reported the Minnesota Vikings have competition from the New York Giants to move up in the NFL draft.

The NFL draft is tomorrow, and we could see a whole lot of drama at the top. It’s no secret that the Minnesota Vikings need a quarterback, and conventional wisdom says they’re looking to move up to get one. The problem? They’re far from the only team that needs a QB, and they may not be the only ones looking to move up, either.

According to Adam Schefter in an interview on the Pat McAfee Show, the Vikings could be competing with the New York Giants to trade up for their quarterback. McAfee asked Schefter about the New England Patriots’ position at three, and Schefter mentioned that the Vikings and Giants have been the two most active in trade talks with New England.

Unlike the Giants, the Vikings have not one, but two, first round picks they can package together in an effort to move up. On the other hand, the Giants currently have the number six overall pick in the draft, which could be appealing for the Patriots if they think they can move down a few spots and still get a quarterback — perhaps former Michigan QB J.J. McCarthy.

The situation is further complicated by the fact that New England certainly has a need at the position of their own. The Patriots traded former starting quarterback Mac Jones in the offseason and, though they are reportedly listening to offers, may not be able to be convinced to move off that spot.

If Minnesota is going to move up into the top 3 in an effort to land former North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye, they’re certainly fighting an uphill battle. One that may prove to be impossible to overcome. We’ll find out tomorrow night!

Bills’ Brandon Beane discusses massive bison being put outside new stadium (video)

Beane is excited about it like the rest of us:

The Buffalo Bills new stadium construction is well underway.

The inside is the feature… but outside of it is getting some attention too.

The entrance way to the stadium will feature a large, very large, bison. It’s reportedly going to be 16-feet tall.

Just like fans, Brandon Beane is excited about that touch. Speaking on the Pat McAfee Show, Beane said he thinks it’s going to be a nice addition Bills Mafia and outsiders will enjoy.

The Bills had to release numerous important players and starters prior to the start of the current NFL league year.

The one leading the way there was general manager Brandon Beane. The GM called moves like releasing safety Jordan Poyer and center Mitch Morse “brutal” to do during an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show.

“That’s hard,” Beane said.

Bills general manager Brandon Beane was not in the 2024 NFL general manager photo.

Sean McDermott made it into the coaches one… but Beane was shy. He joked about missing the occasion on the Pat McAfee Show shortly after the photo was snapped at the NFL owners meetings.

Per Beane… he was just busy.

Bills’ Brandon Beane on draft day trades: ‘We’re always listening’

#Bills’ Brandon Beane on draft day trades: ‘We’re always listening’

Bills general manager Brandon Beane has once again been candid when discussing a potential trade at the 2024 NFL draft.

Beane, known to move up and down the board, admits he does like to move upward more. He once again said while on the Pat McAfee Show that his phone is on and he is ready to talk.

“I get antsy,” Beane said.

The proof is now likely helping him, too. QB Josh Allen, tight end Dalton Kincaid, among others, are players Buffalo have traded up for at the draft. Beane said he knows other teams realize that now.
