Oregon vs Washington Game Preview

Why Washington Will Win

Here comes the Washington offense.

Don’t get off the bus against Oregon unless you’re prepared to crank up 500 yards and 40 points.

The Huskies haven’t been able to get the big points lately, but the passing game is the best in America – averaging 370 yards per game – the offensive line is holding up well, and it’s all going to be turned loose.

For all of the NFL talent and all the good parts on the Oregon defense, it’s getting hammered a little too easily by mediocre offenses. They’re awful on third downs and there’s little to no pressure in the backfield.

Washington is fourth in the nation in fewest sacks allowed and it’s No. 1 in the country in fewest tackles for loss allowed. The offensive line will hold up, Michael Penix Jr. will throw 50 times, and …

Why Oregon Will Win

There’s no hotter quarterback in college football than Bo Nix.

He’s hitting close to 80% of his throws over the last four games, and two picks against Cal aside, he’s not making any big mistakes. Throw in the ten rushing scores over the last five games, and this is when – with a national offense watching – he’ll throw his hat into the Heisman ring.

Washington’s defense has been getting lit up by everyone’s passing game. Weather helped keep Oregon State down last week, but other than that, everyone who can throw is able to hit around 70% of their throws and push for 300 yards with three touchdowns.

Just assume all of that with Nix. Throw in a running game that will push for five yards per carry, and the Huskies are going to have a hard time coming up with a big stop.

Worse yet, the UW D doesn’t come up with takeaways – just two in the last five games. The Oregon defense has generate nine in the last four, but …

What’s Going To Happen

Oh will this be fun.

It’s going to be a crisp, clear night in Eugene, both offenses will have idea conditions, and they’re going to trade haymakers from the start.

Penix Jr. will throw for 350, Oregon’s offense will roll up 500 yards, and both teams will have their moments. However, Washington has been mediocre-to-awful away from home. It lost to a mediocre Arizona State, struggled to get by Cal, and lost to UCLA far worse than the 40-32 final score might indicate.

This is when Oregon really and truly gets everyone talking about a possible College Football Playoff spot.

Week 11’s top games includes the huge Texas-TCU showdown

Regional editor Patrick Conn breaks down his top six games to watch this weekend. Did Texas earn the top spot?

There are just three weeks remaining in the regular season for most of college football. The weekend of Dec. 3 will feature the conference championship games, and teams are still chasing their shot to add to the trophy case.

Among those teams are the Texas Longhorns, who climbed to No. 18 in all three polls after a win over Kansas State in Manhattan last weekend. That set up a very important game against the TCU Horned Frogs on Saturday. The Horns are back in the Big 12 title race but need a win to keep control of their championship game path.

This isn’t the only big game of the weekend. Alabama-Ole Miss and UCF-Tulane join the slate of top-25 matchups. In preparation for another big week, I ranked my top six games to watch.

Oregon vs Washington Game Preview

Why Oregon Will Win

Alright, Oregon. It’s on.

Yeah, getting the No. 4 slot in the first round of College Football Playoff rankings was strong, but they need to start winning and winning impressively considering the rest of the schedule isn’t that amazing – no Pac-12 teams in the CFP top 25 – and with Ohio State’s slate about the ramp up.

Oregon likes to make things interesting, but QB Anthony Brown is playing well enough – he threw for over 600 yards in the last two games with three touchdown passes last week against Colorado – his accuracy has improved, and he’s been able to rebuild from the loss to Stanford.

Washington doesn’t have an explosive enough offense – a comeback against Arizona aside – to keep up if the Ducks can get out fast.

Scoring is an issue for the Dawgs – they haven’t been above 24 points in any of the last four games – and the run D has been sketchy, but …

College Football Expert Picks, CFN Week 10

Why Washington Will Win

The Washington defense is the best in the nation against the pass.

That’s partly because teams spend so much time running on the UW defensive front, but but it gave up two touchdown passes to Cal, two more to UCLA, and that’s been it.

In the four wins, the D has come up with seven interceptions and just one in the four losses.

Oregon has been. to be nice about it – inconsistent.

It’s winning, but there have been a few too many defensive lapses, there aren’t enough big plays on third downs, and its own pass defense has been hit for more than 220 yards by everyone but Stony Brook.

NFL Expert Picks, CFN Week 9

What’s Going To Happen

Is this when Washington makes a gigantic statement in the Pac-12 title chase?

It might have been a disappointing year so far, but one win in this and the Ducks are back in the back in what would be a log jam in the hunt for the North.

It would also end the Pac-12 dream of getting a team into the College Football Playoff.

Oregon hasn’t always been smooth, but it has the offense that Washington doesn’t. The Huskies will keep this close for more than a half, but the Duck D will rise up with stop after stop in the fourth quarter to get out alive.

Oregon’s trip to play two road games in the state of Washington got off to a bad start with a surprising road loss to Washington State. Meanwhile, Washington has built up a home win streak. Only one of those trajectories can continue when Oregon and Washington square-off in a Saturday Pac-12 showdown in Seattle.

No. 8 Oregon (14-4, 3-2) had a three-game win streak snapped when it lost to Washington State on the road on Thursday. The Ducks held a three-point lead at halftime but were outscored by 14 points in the second half for a 72-61 loss. Payton Pritchard led the Ducks with 22 points. Washington State went 11-for-21 from three-point range. The Ducks will need to do a better job of defending the perimeter to split their Washington road trip.

Washington (12-6, 2-3) got a 64-56 home win over Oregon State on Thursday. The win was Washington’s second straight home victory in conference play. Washington never trailed in the win over the Beavers, as the Huskies defense carried them to victory. The team held Oregon State to 39 percent shooting and just two threes for the game. Against a more talented Oregon team, Washington’s defense will have to come together against a tougher offensive opponent if it wants a win.
