Top 5 TE in 2024 class set to announce commitment Friday; Oregon stands as finalist

One of the best tight ends in the 2024 class will announce his commitment on Friday, with the Ducks as a finalist alongside Ohio State, Clemson.

The Oregon Ducks are in the running to land one of the best tight ends in the 2024 class, and they will find out their fate on Friday.

4-star TE Christian Bentancur, the No. 4 TE in the 2024 class and No. 102 overall player in the nation, released his final three schools of Oregon, Ohio State, and Clemson earlier in the week, and he will announce his commitment on Friday. Bentancur has yet to take an official visit to Eugene, but he’s developed a close relationship with the coaching staff.

“The main coach I talk to is coach Mehringer, but I one thing that makes them stand out is how close multiple coaches on the staff have gotten to me,” Bentancur told On3.

On Friday morning at 12:30 p.m. CT, Bentancur will announce his commitment.

2024 4-star safety Jordan Johnson-Rubell places Oregon among top schools

The No. 7 safety in the 2024 class, Jordan Johnson-Rubell, has Oregon among his top schools.

One of the harder-hitting safeties in the 2024 class just narrowed down his recruitment to 12 schools and kept the Oregon Ducks in the mix.

4-star Jordan Johnson-Rubell, a 5-foot-11, 175-pounder out of IMG Academy in Floriday announced his top 12 on Tuesday, listing the Ducks alongside schools like Alabama, USC, Texas, and Oklahoma.

Johnson-Rubell is rated by the 247Sports Composite as the No. 7 safety in the 2024 class, and No. 86 overall player in the nation. He was offered by the Ducks last season and took a visit out to Eugene in April.

With Oregon yet to announce the hiring of a new safeties coach after Matt Powledge left to take the defensive coordinator job at Baylor, we will see how the new hire impacts this recruitment, if at all.

5-star 2024 DL Justin Scott lists Oregon Ducks in top 8

5-star DL Justin Scott, the No. 18 player in the 2024 class, has the Ducks among his final schools at this stage in his recruitment.

The Oregon Ducks are picking up steam in the 2024 recruiting class, landing in the top 8 for one of the best defenders in the nation for next year’s cycle.

5-star defensive lineman Justin Scott, a 6-foot-5, 310-pounder out of Chicago, announced his final 8 schools on Sunday afternoon, keeping the Ducks in the mix with the likes of USC, Notre Dame, Alabama, Ohio State, and others.

Scott is rated as the No. 18 overall player in the 2024 class, per the 247Sports Composite, and the No. 4 DL in the nation.

Scott hasn’t taken a visit to Eugene yet, but we will likely see that change over the coming months as his recruitment ramps up.

4-star LB Justin Williams places Oregon in top 6; Ducks favorite to land commitment

The Ducks are already strongly favored to land 4-star LB Justin Williams, so it wasn’t a major shock when they popped up in his top 6 on Saturday.

The Oregon Ducks are in good standing with one of their top defensive prospects in the 2024 class.

On Saturday, four-star linebacker Justin Williams narrowed his recruitment to six teams and kept the Ducks in the mix. This comes a few months after 247Sports’ Steve Wiltfong placed a crystal ball prediction for Oregon to land Williams in 2024.

Williams is the No. 4 LB in the 2024 class and the No. 54 player nationally overall. Standing 6 feet, 2 inches and 205 pounds, Williams has a long list of offers from top schools in the nation.

Should the Ducks close this recruitment and get him to come to Eugene, it could be a massive addition.

Social Media Buzz: Duck fans react to Austin Novosad, Dante Moore in All-American Bowl

Oregon QB Austin Novosad had some nice throws at the All-American Bowl, but Dante Moore stole the show.

The second of three high school football showcases, the All-American Bowl, took place on Saturday afternoon in San Antonio and aired on NBC.

A couple of future Oregon Duck players were on the field and showed what they could do along with a number of other elite prospects Oregon fans likely kept a close eye on.

Five-star quarterback Dante Moore stole the show, throwing for four touchdowns in a blowout win for the East team. As a former Oregon commit, it was at the very least entertaining for Duck fans to watch Moore sling it. Austin Novosad also had a chance to show what he can do, but the Ducks’ signee struggled, dealing with inconsistent offensive line play and receivers who dropped a couple of passes that were on target.

In the end, it was a good showcase of talent in the 2023 class, and college football fans had an enjoyable time watching it. Here are some of the best reactions to the play throughout the game:

Fresno State safety Evan Williams on recruiting visit to Oregon

Fresno State safety Evan Williams is in Eugene for a visit with the Ducks. He would be a big get at a position of need for Oregon.

The Oregon Ducks picked up an early prediction to land Fresno State Bulldogs safety Evan Williams out of the transfer portal this week, and it appears that might be coming to fruition, with the veteran defensive back taking a visit to Eugene over the weekend.

Williams, who is the younger brother of former Oregon safety Bennett Williams, posted on his Instagram Story that he was in Eugene on Saturday afternoon. There is not yet a clear timeline for when he is expected to make a commitment or if he is planning on taking any other visits throughout the month, but this is a great early sign for the Ducks.

Oregon currently has a need for depth and talent at the safety position, and Williams could be a massive addition to the roster.

4-star TE Jamari Johnson announces college commitment

4-star TE Jamari Johnson announces college commitment

The Oregon Ducks were in the running to land four-star tight end Jamari Johnson, who has been committed to the Louisville Cardinals for the past several months. However, they were unable to land the jumbo athlete, who stuck with Louisville in the end.

Johnson stands 6 feet, 5 inches and 250 pounds. He is projected to play tight end in college. After former Oregon TE Moliki Matavao announced his transfer to the UCLA Bruins, it was clear the Ducks needed depth at the position. The Ducks worked to add Johnson to the 2023 class, pairing him alongside fellow TE Kenyon Sadiq, but the hopes didn’t come to fruition.

That doesn’t mean the Ducks are finished in the TE recruiting department, though. Five-stars Nyckoles Harbor and Duce Robinson have not yet committed, and both are reportedly considering Oregon. Harbor plans a visit to Eugene at the end of January.

Top-10 OT in 2024 puts Ducks among his final schools

Michael Uini is the No. 6 OT in the 2024 class, and he’s looking hard at Adrian Klemm and the Ducks.

It’s been interesting to see a trend start to grow over the past year as we get a glimpse of what Oregon Ducks’ offensive line coach Adrian Klemm wants in his players. Now that we’ve got a year of Klemm on the job, and have been able to see the type of guys that he recruits to Eugene, it’s clear that one of the biggest attributes that he is looking for is pure size.

In the 2022 class, we saw Oregon sign guys like Josh Conerly, Dave Iuli, and Kawika Rogers, all of whom are over 6-foot-5, 290 pounds. In 2023, we saw the Ducks sign George Silva, who is 6-foot-7, 295, and get a transfer from Ajani Cornelius, who is 6-foot-4, 315 pounds.

Klemm appears to like big bodies on the OL, so he should be thrilled to see the Ducks land in the top 10 for 2024 4-star OT Michael Uini, a 6-foot-7, 290-pounder out of Texas.

Uini is rated as the No. 6 OT in 2024 and No. 112 overall player in the nation for next year’s class. He narrowed his recruitment down to 10 schools on Thursday, keeping the Ducks in the mix with teams like Georgia, Alabama, Michigan, and USC.

We will see in the coming months if Uini chooses to take a visit out to Eugene, but it’s clear that he’s looking at the Ducks early on in his recruitment.

Elite former 5-star DL Jordan Burch from South Carolina enters transfer portal

South Carolina’s Jordan Burch is now in the transfer portal. Burch has a strong connection with Dan Lanning, who recruited the 5-star hard at Georgia.

The Oregon Ducks are expected to be aggressive when it comes to high-end defensive linemen in the transfer portal this offseason, and one of the best options might have just become available.

Former South Carolina Gamecocks’ DL Jordan Burch announced on Thursday he was entering the portal. A three-year starter in South Carolina, Burch is a former five-star recruit who was rated by 247Sports as the No. 8 overall player in the 2020 class.

If that weren’t intriguing enough on its own, consider that Burch had the Georgia Bulldogs as one of his top schools going into his commitment. Who was his primary recruiter with the Bulldogs? None other than current Oregon head coach Dan Lanning.

A relationship has obviously been established, and that could be enough to get Burch to come up to Eugene for the 2023 season and continue his career. Obviously, with a player as talented as this — Burch had 3.5 sacks in 2022 — a number of teams are going to be trying hard to land the big DL. We will see in the coming weeks if Lanning can convince Burch to fly to the Pacific Northwest for a visit.
