Oregon Ducks Football Schedule 2021

2021 Pac-12 Football Schedule

Sept. 4 Fresno State

Sept. 11 at Ohio State

Sept. 18 Stony Brook

Sept. 25 Arizona

Oct. 2 at Stanford

Oct. 9 OPEN DATE

Oct. 15 Cal

Oct. 23 at UCLA

Oct. 30 Colorado

Nov. 6 at Washington

Nov. 13 Washington State

Nov. 20 at Utah

Nov. 27 Oregon State

Oregon Football Schedule Analysis: Fresno State isn’t a lightweight, but it’s a winnable opener and Stony Brook is a light scrimmage, but the Ducks can be forgiven for not doing more with their non-conference schedule considering they have to travel to Ohio State in what should be one of college football’s biggest games of 2021.

There’s a big break, though, in Pac-12 play with no USC or Arizona State from the South, and without having to play two road games in a row. However, they have to go to Washington, UCLA and Stanford, and having to go to Utah late in the season is nasty.

Oregon CB Thomas Graham Jr. met Saints for virtual interview

The New Orleans Saints held a virtual interview with Oregon CB Thomas Graham Jr., a mid-round prospect in the 2021 NFL draft.

[jwplayer OpQtLErp-ThvAeFxT]

Add another name to the list of 2021 draft prospect interviews for the New Orleans Saints. The Draft Network’s Justin Melo reports that the team held a virtual meeting with Oregon cornerback Thomas Graham Jr. having previously met him at the Senior Bowl, and Graham’s been busy — he’s recently spoken with the Los Angeles Rams, Green Bay Packers, and New England Patriots, in addition to the Saints.

Graham entered the 2020 season leading the nation’s active players in career passes defensed (32, with 8 interceptions) but opted out amid the COVID-19 pandemic and the PAC-12’s delayed start. He’s known as a technically-sound player with plenty of experience starting outside, though he doesn’t bring much versatility as an option to cover the slot. He also pushes the limits of the Saints’ physical thresholds at 5-foot-10 and 193 pounds, with 31-inch arms.

He could make up for those limitations by testing well at Oregon’s pro day, but it’s probably going to weigh into New Orleans’ evaluation regardless. The lack of facilities visits this year means the Saints won’t be able to spend as much time with Graham and other prospects as usual, so they’re working with less information. At this point in the draft process, Graham is projected to be a mid-round pick.

Still, the Saints haven’t been shy about scouting Oregon before. They kept a close eye on future Rookie of the Year Justin Herbert during his senior season and signed three of Graham’s teammates after the 2020 draft: defensive end Gus Cumberlander; offensive lineman Calvin Throckmorton, who spent the year on New Orleans’ practice squad; and wide receiver Juwan Johnson, who totaled 182 snaps on offense in seven games. Maybe they like Graham even more than that trio.

5. The Big 12 delivered in a big, big way

5-0 is 5-0.

You play the team in front of you, it’s not your fault if the other team has issues, and all of those other talking points. It’s all about the scoreboard and the record.

Yes, the Big 12 was favored in all five of the games. Yes, Army was one of those games, a meh Colorado was another, D’Eriq King suffered a knee injury in one, and Florida was missing way too many players in another.

A win is a win is a win, but it’s possible to slightly yuck the Big 12’s yum on a lot of this.

Not on Iowa State’s win in the Fiesta Bowl. It just beat the Pac-12 Champion.

This was a huge win for the Cyclones – more on this later, but it might be the biggest win ever – and it was the one the Big 12 should chirp about more than any of the others.

Oklahoma might have been jaw-dropping great, and Oklahoma State, West Virginia and Texas did what they were supposed to do, but Iowa State was dealing with a very talented, very active Oregon team that looked like it was about to put it all together.

The Ducks still have tremendous talent, and the sky’s the limit going into next year, but …

NEXT: Oregon’s quarterback situation is a problem

Mario Cristobal signs new contract with Oregon

One of the top candidates for Auburn’s head coaching job is staying put.

Mario Cristobal has agreed to a 6-year, $27 million contract to stay in Oregon. The contract has increased his buyout from $8 million to $9 million this year.

Cristobal is one of the top recruiters and offensive line coaches in the country, and has a 24-9 record as the head coach at Oregon.

UCLA’s halftime Hail Mary attempt disastrously ended with an Oregon pick-six

Yikes.

With almost no time left in the second quarter, it looked like UCLA was going to head into the locker room for halftime with a slight 21-17 lead over Oregon.

Instead, the Bruins entered the break down, 24-21, thanks to a disastrous Hail Mary attempt as the clock ran out.

UCLA had the ball with just six seconds left in the half, and on 2nd-and-6 from its own 44-yard line, it decided to launch a Hail Mary and to try to extend their lead with likely only enough time remaining for one shot. What’s the worst that could happen? Well…

With starting junior quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson out for Saturday’s game against the Ducks — he said he doesn’t have COVID-19 but is out for reasons beyond his control — freshman Chase Griffin was up. And he probably wishes he could take this play back.

Just as Griffin was releasing the ball, Oregon sophomore defensive tackle Brandon Dorlus slammed into the quarterback. The hit on Griffin stifled the depth of the pass, and the ball landed nicely in senior safety Jordan Happle’s arms.

And Happle made UCLA pay for this last-second gamble, running all the way back to the end zone for a 58-yard pick-six.

That’s probably not what the Bruins had in mind when they drew this one up.

Look: Chargers QB Justin Herbert sporting new hairdo

This is the first time that Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert has cut his hair since 2017 or 2018.

Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert had the Hollywood look with his flowing hair. But that is now a thing of the past.

Herbert, who fielded questions from media on Wednesday, showed up with his new hairdo, which is buzz cut that’s similar to the one he sported when he first arrived to the University of Oregon.

Herbert said that strength and conditioning coach John Lott was the one responsible for cutting his hair.

“He said he was good with the clippers,” Herbert said. “I think he did a good job.”

Herbert added that the last time he got a haircut was back in 2017 or 2018, which would have marked his sophomore or junior season of college.

Take a look at the new-looking Herbert:

Chargers trending towards being in contention for NFL’s next great left tackle

The Chargers could land a premiere offensive tackle in the 2021 NFL draft.

The Chargers’ loss to the Dolphins dropped them to 2-7 on the season.

But, there is a positive after suffering defeat. The loss moved Los Angeles up the NFL draft order from sixth to fifth, putting them closer to landing a premiere blindside blocker for quarterback Justin Herbert, one of which he’s very familiar with.

Penei Sewell, the 2019 Outland Trophy winner, is unarguably the best offensive lineman from the 2021 draft class. Sewell served as Oregon’s left tackle the past two seasons, where he was the engineer of keeping Herbert clean in the pocket and creating space for him to win with his legs.

Sewell, the 6-foot-5 and 325 pounder, is an elite pass protector, who uses his long arms, wide base and imposing grip to keep pass rushers at bay. He’s also a forceful run blocker, who wipes out defenders at all levels of the field with his intense and nasty mentality.

L.A. will be in the market for offensive line help this upcoming offseason, but especially at the left tackle position, where Sewell would serve as immediate and long-term help.

The Chargers might have to be picking No. 3 overall to nearly solidify their chances of landing Sewell, but given how the team has been playing, it wouldn’t be that surprising to see them picking in that spot come next April.

Chargers QB Justin Herbert continues to show promising potential despite loss to Panthers

Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert strung together another strong outing in Sunday’s loss to the Panthers.

[sendtonews_embed video_id=”3jY2hH0uwO-985274-6173″]

For the second week in a row, rookie quarterback Justin Herbert almost guided the Chargers to victory. Despite the loss to the Panthers, Herbert continued to show why he is capable of being the franchise’s starter for years to come.

Los Angeles’ first-round pick made some mistakes, which included opening the game by getting sacked, then fumbling the ball. Later in the first half when he was trying to lead his team to get some points before halftime, he threw an interception that got returned to the eight-yard line.

Coming out of the locker room, Herbert didn’t let the first half mistakes linger. Instead, he made the necessary adjustments and the flow of the offense was evident because of it.

Since L.A. was forced to play catch-up, they had to resort to the passing game and it was effective, consistently moving the ball down the field in the second half.

Near the end of the game, Herbert hit wide receiver Keenan Allen in the end zone for a 14-yard touchdown, delivering an absolute dart between two defenders.

With a little over a minute to play and no timeouts, he received the ball at the one-yard line, and he drove the Chargers down the field. He got them to the 28-yard line, and they had two plays to try and win it.

If the final play, which was a hook-and-ladder between Allen and running back Austin Ekeler, worked, Los Angeles would have won the game and the rookie would’ve been the hero of the game.

“I thought the young quarterback did a nice job taking his team down the field with no timeouts, (gave us a) chance to win the football game,” coach Anthony Lynn said.

Herbert finished the game 35-of-49 passing for 330 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. He is only the third quarterback since the 1970 NFL merger to throw for more than 300 passing yards in their first two career games. Cam Newton and Kyler Murray were the other two.

But Herbert’s performance goes way beyond the box score.

Herbert showed strides in an area that he was knocked for coming out of college, which was having an inconsistent feel for pressure and lacking methodical pocket movements when plays would break down.

Today, Herbert, who was dealing with a rocky offensive line all afternoon, didn’t look rattled at all when facing pressure. He displayed sound footwork with steady rhythm and poise from snap to delivery, inside and outside the pocket.

Following the game, his teammates gave him high praise for Sunday’s showing.

“He had a couple situations where he literally changed the entire play and ended it up making it work. That’s starting to give me some confidence saying that this guy knows what he’s doing,” Ekeler said.

Allen said the one positive from this game was the potential he noticed with Herbert running the offense.

While Herbert has yet to pick up his first NFL win, he has shown that he is more than capable of being Los Angeles’ guy for years to come.
