Texas Football: Tarik Black and Jahdae Barron officially added

The Texas Longhorns have officially added Michigan transfer Tarik Black and former Baylor signee Jahdae Barron to the 2020 roster.

It is official, the Texas Longhorns have added Tarik Black and Jahdae Barron to the 2020 roster. Tarik Black was a player that was rumored to receive interest from Tom Herman’s staff once he entered the transfer portal. The school announced on Monday that he is officially on the roster.

The addition of Black comes as no surprise given that the team lacks experience at the wide receiver position. Especially after Devin Duvernay and Collin Johnson’s departures to the NFL. Brennan Eagles and Jake Smith have some experience at wide out and now add Tarik Black. Black was a highly touted wide receiver coming out of Connecticut but never really gained any kind of traction in Ann Arbor while playing for Michigan. He dealt with injuries and spotty quarterback play while a member of the Wolverines.

Last season was Black’s best with 25 receptions (40 in his career), 323 yards receiving and one touchdown. Those numbers won’t blow you away but he brings experience to a young group. He wore number seven up north and will likely wear it again for the University of Texas. That number is vacant on the offensive side of the ball and the graphic provided by UT shows him the seven jersey so that feels like a done deal. Along with Black, Smith, Eagles and Whittington that gives new offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich some toys to play with.

On the defensive side of the ball, Texas officially welcomes Jahdae Barron to the Longhorns family. Barron originally committed and signed to play for the Baylor Bears but the sudden departure by then head coach Matt Rhule opened the door for Texas. Barron requested to be released from his NLI and that is where Texas got involved.

Possesses the requisite corner build with adequate height and frame potential relative to the position. Plays smoothly and instinctive in coverage. Shows good ball skills for a DB. Flashes encouraging reactive quickness. Consistently stays in-phase with receivers while playing off coverage. No verified testing times, but owns a 10.95 100-meter time. Good long speed. Natural corner but could potentially provide position flexibility in college. Willing tackler with solid numbers in that department, but can improve technique and consistency. Needs to continue adding bulk and strength to combat bigger opponents in college. The addition of Barron brings depth to the position of cornerback and an eventual starter in the Chris Ash defense. It is hard to imagine with no spring football and the uncertainty surrounding when they will action get on the field to think otherwise. His addition is just another solid get by the staff for the 2020 recruiting class.

One question for every Big 12 team going into the 2020 season

Nothing is certain in the Big 12 this upcoming season, with teams needing answers. Here is one question for every Big 12 team for 2020.

Going into 2020, the Big 12 is still trying to make its national presence known across the country. Since the College Football Playoff began in 2014, the conference has yet to win a semifinal game and has even failed to make it into the playoff twice.

As a whole, the conference has been carried by Oklahoma, with the remaining nine teams being well below the level of the Sooners.

However, this season should be different with teams such as Baylor, Texas, Oklahoma State, and Iowa State waiting at the doorstep, prime to breakthrough, and possibly make a statement.

Even then, each team in the Big 12 has a big question going into the 2020 season.

From the top of the conference in Oklahoma and their questions surrounding the quarterback position, to the bottom with Kansas and their ability to win more than three games this season, nothing is certain for the conference this upcoming season.
