Jaylen Ellis forecasts Colorado teammate Omarion Miller to become college football’s best WR

Jaylen Ellis predicts that Omarion Miller will become the best WR in college football

Omarion Miller’s immense talent became known to everyone in Colorado football’s Week 5 loss against USC last season. While leading a furious second-half rally, the true freshman made several improbable catches and finished with 196 receiving yards.

Although he caught only four more passes in the Buffs’ final seven games, Miller’s teammates have confidence that he’ll grow into a solidified star.

Jaylen Ellis, a fellow Colorado wide receiver who saw most of his action last season on special teams, gave some high praise to Miller on Friday. In a quote tweet, Ellis tabbed Xavier Weaver (Zay) as one of the best wide receivers he’s been around and added that Miller is “gonna be the best WR in CFB.”

Based on what we saw last September, Miller certainly has the skills to reach Ellis’ expectations. However, he’ll have to compete for playing time in a Colorado wide receivers room that has added transfers Will Sheppard, LaJohntay Wester, Cordale Russell and Terrell Timmons Jr. this offseason.

After breakout game, Omarion Miller talks with Snoop Dogg over FaceTime

Coach Prime revealed that Snoop Dogg asked to speak with Omarion Miller following his breakout performance

The Colorado Buffaloes lost to the USC Trojans this past weekend in a close game despite quarterback Shedeur Sanders throwing for more than 350 yards once again.

One of the biggest highlights was the outstanding play of true freshman wide receiver Omarion Miller, who finished with an eye-popping stat line of seven catches, 196 yards and a touchdown.

Miller drew heavy praise from NFL Hall of Famer Michael Irvin, and fans loved what he brought to the table, especially with Travis Hunter out for the time being.

Colorado head coach Deion Sanders said on Tuesday that Miller talked with rapper Snoop Dogg on FaceTime after his massive performance. The details of that conversation between Miller and Snoop Dogg weren’t revealed, but the true freshman is making waves.

Miller is part of a loaded wide receivers room that also features Jimmy Horn Jr. and Xavier Weaver, so there are plenty of mouths to feed. After the breakout performance, Miller should command more targets from Shedeur Sanders.

Five players who stepped up big for Colorado against USC

These five players stepped up big for the #cubuffs on Saturday

With Travis Hunter, Shilo Sanders and other key players out, several Buffs who hadn’t seen the field much this season, including a couple of true freshmen, stepped up when needed on Saturday against USC.

Yes, Colorado’s comeback attempt came up just short, but head coach Deion Sanders gained a good deal of confidence in multiple second and third-string players. The shorthanded Buffs even outscored the vaunted Trojans by 13 points in the second half thanks to their depth, something that many thought Colorado lacked heading into this season.

Below are five players who stepped up big for the Buffs on Saturday against USC:

Omarion Miller a surprise star for the Colorado Buffaloes

Miller is only a freshman but someone to watch for future draft interest

Perhaps the most anticipated game of the year took place last Saturday between the upstart Colorado Buffaloes and the 8th-ranked USC Trojans between two potential Heisman candidates and the two most exciting quarterbacks in the country in Shedeur Sanders and Caleb Williams. One name that was not on anyone’s radar, however, was Colorado freshman wide receiver Omarion Miller.

It was one hell of a debut for Miller, who made the first catch of his college career on Saturday and then proceeded to help carry the Colorado offense. Miller proved completely unstoppable as Sanders’ new top weapon, dialing up seven receptions for a game-breaking 196 yards and a clutch fourth-quarter touchdown that almost sparked a comeback victory.

Miller showed the desired height/weight/speed combination that has been missing from this offense since the injury of star player Travis Hunter. Miller looked every bit the part of a classic 1A receiver for this offense, and in just his first game has become the team’s best receiver. With more room for growth and the return of Hunter to this offense, this passing attack could become even more dangerous, with Miller as the focal point of their aerial assault.

Michael Irvin praises Omarion Miller after huge day

Following his breakout performance, Omarion Miller had a special moment with Michael Irvin

With Travis Hunter sidelined, somebody was going to have to step up on both sides of the ball against the USC Trojans. On offense, it was freshman wide receiver Omarion Miller.

He exploded with seven catches for a game-high 196 yards and a fourth-quarter touchdown that moved the Buffs to within 14 points of USC.

After the game, NFL Hall of Famer Michael Irvin sang the praises of Miller, complimenting him on his huge performance, which happened to come with plenty of eyeballs watching this one in person and on television.

“This boy here is a bad dude,” Irvin said to Miller. “That out-route, I grabbed him, I said, ‘Man, that was an NFL out-route.’ The patience on it, man, you made a play. Way to keep playing, man. Big-time players make big-time play in big moments.”

Jimmy Horn Jr. and Xavier Weaver have been the talk of the WRs room, along with the injured Travis Hunter, but Saturday was all about the explosiveness of Miller, who surely will be a bigger part of the offense going forward.

Horn finished with seven catches for 84 yards and a pair of scores and tight end Michael Harrison had six catches for 44 yards and a touchdown, but this game was all about Miller. Know the name.

Social media reacts to true freshman Omarion Miller’s breakout game

Omarion Miller stole the show for Colorado in a major breakout game

The Colorado Buffaloes may have just found a new starting wide receiver.

After not recording a single reception in the Buffs’ first four games, true freshman Omarion Miller, a former four-star recruit out of Louisiana, went absolutely ballistic in the second half of Saturday’s game against the No. 8 USC Trojans.

His first catch went for 65 yards, but that was only a taste of what was to come. All told, the rookie receiver finished with seven receptions for 196 yards, including a 9-yard touchdown.

Unfortunately for the Buffs, their Miller-fueled rally fell short, 48-41.

Here’s how social media reacted to Miller’s breakout performance:

Dylan Edwards sees star potential in fellow freshman Omarion Miller

Dylan Edwards sees “dawg” potential in Omarion Miller

The Colorado Buffaloes football team has plenty of notable players to watch with Deion Sanders running the show. There are just way too many names, and sometimes it’s easy to forget a few players.

Dylan Edwards, the Buffs’ talented incoming freshman running back who flipped from Notre Dame, mentioned Omarion Miller first when he was asked to name five teammates who’ve impressed him the most this summer during a segment of DNVR Buffs Live. “He’s gonna be a dawg,” Edwards said of Miller, a four-star freshman wide receiver.

Edwards went on to name offensive tackle Savion Washington, defensive lineman Shane Cokes, cornerback/wide receiver Travis Hunter and safety Myles Slusher as the four other Buffs who’ve stood out to him.

That’s an impressive list of players that Edwards gave, and it’s no surprise that Hunter was included. But, Miller might be a surprising addition. He could play a role this season for the Buffs and could catch a lot of passes from Shedeur Sanders, depending on how everything plays out.

It’s early, but there are plenty of names popping off the page. The season opener against TCU can’t come soon enough.

Javon Antonio, Omarion Miller turning heads during summer workouts

A pair of new #cubuffs wide receivers have been looking especially strong this summer

Based on the handful of clips we’ve seen from summer workouts, a pair of new Colorado football wide receivers have arguably stood out the most.

While neither owns any FBS experience, four-star incoming freshman Omarion Miller and Northwestern State transfer Javon Antonio both looked impressive in a Well Off Media YouTube video that was posted Wednesday.

Miller, a Louisiana prospect who signed in December, showed off his hops by making a leaping catch while Antonio’s pure strength and size — he’s listed at 6-foot-4, 220 pounds — attracted some attention as well. It’s currently unclear where these two will fit into the Buffs’ depth chart, but they’re at least trending upward in my eyes.

Below are two clips that garnered some Twitter buzz (h/t Well Off Media):

Those two videos caught the attention of DNVR Buffs as well…

New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll gave Coach Prime a recruiting tip at the NFL Honors

Per ESPN, Coach Prime was given a recruiting tip by New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll

The Colorado Buffaloes have taken the recruiting world by storm since head coach Deion Sanders was hired in December. CU has shot up the rankings across every recruiting website as a constant line of transfers and high school all-stars all want to be a part of what Coach Prime is building in Boulder.

ESPN took notice as Adam Rittenberg and Kyle Bonagura took stock of Coach Prime’s first 100 days at Colorado. It’s hard not to notice what Sanders has done in the way of recruiting in that short of a time frame. CU has stocked up on top-end talent from the transfer portal and the high school ranks in Travis Hunter, Cormani McClain, Dylan Edwards, Adam Hopkins, Omarion Miller, Jimmy Horn Jr. and Seydou Traore, to name a few commits.

People outside of Boulder are even offering help to Coach Prime, including New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll (h/t ESPN):

At the NFL Honors ceremony during Super Bowl week, Sanders presented the AP Coach of the Year award to the New York Giants’ Brian Daboll while wearing a black suit and a gold pocket square, CU colors. As Sanders exited the stage, Daboll told him about a player he should consider at Colorado. Sanders immediately got Daboll on the phone with his chief of recruiting.

“That doesn’t just mean that he respects me, and he would love for this kid to play for me,” Sanders said. “You know how much noise we’ve got to be making right now, for that gentleman, as we’re walking off the stage, saying, ‘I’ve got a dawg for you.’

“I said, ‘I ain’t hard to find, Coach.'”

Colorado adds another four-star recruit to their class of 2023

On Christmas Eve, North Caddo (La.) four-star wide receiver Omarion Miller signed with Colorado.

He still has a long way to go, but Deion Sanders is building up a contender in Colorado. Over the holiday weekend, the Buffaloes added another four-star recruit to their class of 2023.

On Christmas Eve, North Caddo (La.) four-star wide receiver Omarion Miller signed with Colorado.

Miller (6-foot-2, 190 pounds) had previously been committed to Nebraska but opened up his recruiting on December 2. He had nine offers all together, including LSU, Miami and South Carolina.

Few receivers around the country have been more productive than Miller over the last few yeaars. Since his Sophomore season he’s totaled 154 catches, 3,492 receiving yards and 43 touchdowns.

After being slotted at No. 61 just a few weeks ago, Colorado’s 2023 recruiting class is now ranked No. 23 in the nation. Miller is the third four-star prospect they’ve recruited since Sanders was hired, but their real progress has come via the transfer portal. Five-star cornerback Travis Hunter is the biggest prize and several other blue chip players have also transferred. The Buffaloes’ transfer class ranks No. 3 in the country.
