Top performers from Colorado’s 27-24 win at Arizona State

These five #cubuffs stepped up on Saturday evening at Arizona State

Coach Prime and the Colorado Buffaloes got back in the win column on Saturday night with a 27-24 victory over the Arizona State Sun Devils in Tempe. The Buffs were on a two-game losing streak and were in desperate need of a win if they wanted to keep moving toward bowl eligibility.

The dramatic win might be just what the doctor ordered for Coach Prime and the Buffs as they have another winnable game next week against Stanford before heading into their bye after that.

With the Buffs now at 4-2 on the season, let’s look at some of the top performers from Colorado’s exciting win over the Sun Devils:

Social media reacts to Javon Antonio’s go-ahead touchdown

Javon Antonio’s first touchdown as a Buff put Colorado up late over Arizona State

This season hasn’t exactly gone according to plan for Javon Antonio.

After making a considerable amount of noise in Colorado’s fall camp, the JUCO transfer suffered a shoulder injury that forced him to miss time early in the year. Antonio came into Saturday’s game against Arizona State with only three catches on the season.

His fourth, however, was by far his biggest.

With the Buffs down 17-14 early in the fourth quarter, quarterback Shedeur Sanders hit Antonio on a crossing route near ASU’s 2-yard line and the massive receiver had little trouble entering the end zone.

Here’s how social media reacted to Antonio’s go-ahead touchdown:

Javon Antonio loving how Colorado’s offense is coming together

Matching up with Colorado’s wide receivers won’t be an easy task for opposing defenses

As we pointed out in our position preview, Colorado’s coaches completely remade the Buffs’ wide receivers room. They’ve gained talent, size and speed in the form of players such as Jimmy Horn Jr, Xavier Weaver and Javon Antonio.

When I mention size, Antonio has that covered. Standing at a hulking 6-foot-4 and 225 pounds, he has dazzled social media with his work in one-on-one matchups over the summer and in fall camp. Quarterback Shedeur Sanders will have a plethora of options when the Buffs roll out their passing packages this season, according to Antonio:

“I love the offense,” Antonio said. “I love when we go four-set. When we go four-set at receiver, everybody’s getting touches. Everybody is learning and getting our timing right with Shedeur.”

I also asked Antonio about the size and physicality he brings as well as what he has to do to make an impact on offense:

“I just got to go out and do what I got to do,” he said. “I got to stay focused, go up and be physical, use my size and high point the ball. (I can’t) lose that confidence level that I’ve built up.”

Javon Antonio primed for success in first season at Colorado

Javon Antonio has all the tools to be an impact player next season

There is an old adage in sports: You can’t teach size. That’s the motto to live by when it comes to new Colorado football wide receiver Javon Antonio, who stands an impressive 6-foot-4, 220 pounds.

An early social media standout, Antonio has impressed with his physical play and fancy one-handed snags this summer. The former Northwestern State star has flown up projected depth charts, clocking in as a second-teamer in the eyes of DNVR’s Jake Schwanitz.

Travis Hunter and Jimmy Horn Jr. seem to be locked in as starters, but the competition between Antonio, Xavier Weaver and the freshmen duo of Omarion Miller and Adam Hopkins should be exciting to follow as we near the start of the season.

Javon Antonio, Omarion Miller turning heads during summer workouts

A pair of new #cubuffs wide receivers have been looking especially strong this summer

Based on the handful of clips we’ve seen from summer workouts, a pair of new Colorado football wide receivers have arguably stood out the most.

While neither owns any FBS experience, four-star incoming freshman Omarion Miller and Northwestern State transfer Javon Antonio both looked impressive in a Well Off Media YouTube video that was posted Wednesday.

Miller, a Louisiana prospect who signed in December, showed off his hops by making a leaping catch while Antonio’s pure strength and size — he’s listed at 6-foot-4, 220 pounds — attracted some attention as well. It’s currently unclear where these two will fit into the Buffs’ depth chart, but they’re at least trending upward in my eyes.

Below are two clips that garnered some Twitter buzz (h/t Well Off Media):

Those two videos caught the attention of DNVR Buffs as well…

Transfer WR Javon Antonio commits to CU Buffs

Colorado added some legit size to its WR room with a commitment from Javon Antonio

Colorado football’s roster remake continued on Sunday as the Buffaloes acquired another wide receiver.

Javon Antonio comes to Boulder after spending his first two collegiate seasons with the Northwestern State Demons of the Southland Conference (FCS).

Checking in at 6-foot-4, 220 pounds. Antonio possesses some legit size that the Buffaloes have been looking for all offseason. The Louisiana native racked up 684 receiving yards on 64 catches last season while leading the Demons with six touchdown receptions. Antonio could be a huge factor in the red zone next season with him being the largest WR that quarterback Shedeur Sanders currently has to work with.
