No. 7 Oklahoma (10-1, 7-1) makes the hour and a half trip North to Stillwater to play No. 21 Oklahoma State (8-3, 5-3) for the one-hundred and fourteenth edition of Bedlam.

OKLAHOMA WINS IF…

… they allow more hands on the ball. Jalen Hurts’ turnovers are without a doubt an issue but are a byproduct of his high usage rate. With Hurts running the ball over 20 times a game for the later part of the season, the running backs have not quite gotten their fair share of carries.

If the Sooners want to dominate the Cowboys, they need to get the ball into the hands of their playmakers.

… the defense plays like they have for the past six quarters. Ever since the second half of the Baylor game, Oklahoma has been dominant on the defensive side of the ball. Although, ESPN may say something different, the Sooners have been all in on the Alex Grinch brand of football.

OKLAHOMA LOSES IF…

… Dru Brown torches the defense. Oklahoma has not had the best success when facing a backup quarterback over the years. With Brown down one of the best receivers in the nation in Tylan Wallace, Brown will be more willing to share the ball rather than force feed Wallace.

…they cannot stop Chuba Hubbard. I’m not saying they need to keep Hubbard under a hundred yards, but the Sooners need to keep him behind the chains when they can. If ‘SpeedD’ can not get downhill before Hubbard gets moving, Oklahoma will be in for a dog fight.

HUBBARD HUBBARD

Oklahoma State’s running back Chuba Hubbard has put up some ludicrous numbers this season, and has even possibly earned himself a trip to New York. He has nearly 200 more rushing yards than Wisconsin’s Jonathan Taylor (1,685) at 1,832, and is second in touchdowns with 20. He’s had four 200-yard games, and has only once not rushed for over a hundred yards. The Sooners have yet to see a running back of his caliber this season.

THE TURNOVER BATTLE

With as much production as Sooners quarterback Jalen Hurts sees, turnovers are bound to happen. But the last three weeks have hurt Oklahoma as he’s averaged an interception and a fumble in the last three games. The Cowboys have forced 16 turnovers in 10 games, a decent stat to boast against the turnover-prone Hurts. The Sooners have forced some key turnovers themselves however, as Nik Bonitto, Parnell Motley and Brendan Radley-Hiles have all had game-clinching interceptions. Whoever wins the Bedlam turnover battle, could very well win the game. 

DRU WHO?

Dru Brown made his first career start for the Cowboys last week in their matchup versus West Virginia. With Spencer Sanders out due to thumb surgery, the Hawaii transfer was thrusted into the spotlight. The Mountaineers have had a rocky season so far, winning just four games thus far. Brown managed the game well, throwing for 196 yards and two touchdowns, completing 22 of his 29 passes. The Sooners’ Speed D, however, will be a much tougher task for Brown. If he can dice up the Sooners secondary, he could effectively end Oklahoma’s playoff chances.

So what does it mean for Notre Dame? Are the chances of getting to a New Years Six Bowl different after last week?

With potential College Football Playoff teams Oregon and Penn State losing over the weekend some folks at Alabama, Baylor and Oklahoma got excited about their potential chances for making the playoff.

It wouldn’t appear what happened yesterday was good for Notre Dame’s chances at a New Year’s Six Bowl. The way things sit now it would appear they’re headed to Orlando for the former Blockbuster turned Carquest turned MicronPC turned Mazda turned Champ Sports turned Russell Athletic turned Camping World Bowl.

How does Notre Dame get to Dallas instead? Douglas Farmer from NBC Sports did a good job creating a path.

It’s possible no-doubt but with the CFP Committee making clear last week how much they value results against common opponents (something I hate) I have trouble seeing how Notre Dame gets past Penn State who won against Michigan compared to the Irish who got rolled in Ann Arbor.

So what does the blowout victory win and ultimately more importantly, what does this week’s No. 16 ranking matter for where Notre Dame will be headed this post-season?  

No. 16 Notre Dame had one of their best wins of the season last Saturday as they put a beating on previously 23rd ranked Navy and moved to 8-2 in the process.

Notre Dame didn’t move up in the College Football Playoff rankings despite Auburn having their third loss of the season, this one coming on their home field.  As much as it stings Fighting Irish fans, as we discussed earlier this week, the Irish have nobody to blame for that but themselves.

Moneyline (ML)

Oklahoma (-910) is just too costly at this price level, and you cannot trust TCU (+560), even with a shaky Sooners defense and Lamb uncertain to play.

Against the Spread (ATS)

OKLAHOMA (-18.5, -106) has a high-octane offensive attack, led by dynamic QB Jalen Hurts, and even if Lamb doesn’t play, it proved last week the offense is deep enough to overcome his absence. TCU (+18.5, -115) is desperate, needing a win this week or next week to attain bowl eligibility. The Horned Frogs host West Virginia next week in a much more winnable game. The Sooners are going to blow their doors off.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 64.5 (-110) has been the play in games involving the Sooners lately, going 3-1. Oklahoma has registered 34 or more points in all 10 of its games to date. The Over is also 4-0 in the past four for the Horned Frogs.

Oklahoma State (-250) is a bit pricey, especially for a team playing without its leading receiver while on the road. But you can’t trust West Virginia (+205) despite its upset win over K-State last week to keep its bowl hopes alive.

OKLAHOMA STATE (-6.5, -115) is a tempting play as a favorite by less than a touchdown. The Cowboys have one of the top running backs in the nation, and the Mountaineers are tied for 74th against the run, allowing 167.1 yards per game. That’s where this game will be won.

Over/Under (O/U)

PASS. The over/under (55.5) is going to be too close to call in this one. The Cowboys have a prolific offense, but with Wallace missing they won’t be hitting on all cylinders. The West Virginia offense is also a concern, having been inconsistent and just marginal all season.

Kickoff time, broadcast details set for Oklahoma-Oklahoma State (Bedlam)

Both Sooners and Cowboys fans will be able to sleep in Thanksgiving weekend. Oklahoma and Oklahoma State get a night kickoff for Bedlam.

Both Sooners and Cowboys fans will be able to sleep in Thanksgiving weekend.

After having five straight 11AM kickoffs, the Sooners will close the regular season with four straight primetime games.

Bedlam gets the primetime treatment on FOX, showcasing one of the Big 12’s best rivalries as of late.

Oklahoma played Iowa State, Baylor, TCU and will now play Oklahoma State all in primetime to close out the back half of the Sooners’ schedule. With this much exposure in the spotlight, Oklahoma has taken advantage of their opportunities so far with a near upset against Iowa State and a historic 25-point comeback against Baylor.

This will be the one hundredth and fourteenth meeting between the Sooners and Cowboys. Oklahoma leads the all-time series with 88 wins, 18 losses and seven ties.

The Sooners have yet to lose a game against Oklahoma State since 2014, winning 58-23 in 2015, 38-20 in 2016, 62-52 in 2017 and 48-47 last year in Norman.

Don’t try this at home…or anywhere else for that matter

When you hurdle somebody while playing football it almost always looks cool. Not only did the tackler miss, but you also jumped clean over them. That’s a pretty incredible athletic feat, without a doubt.

It’s also something a football player should probably NEVER do. It’s going to go wrong way more often than it goes right and the consequences aren’t worth it.

If the hurdle is successful and you’ll definitely be featured on highlight reels across the country. If you fail, though? Let’s just say…you might be in a bit of pain in a sensitive region for a minute.
