Ohio State vs. Wisconsin Buckeyes Wire staff predictions

Our writers predict the outcome of the Ohio State vs. Wisconsin matchup Saturday night. #GoBucks

Every week we ask our writers to weigh in on what they think will happen with the next Ohio State football game. They don’t always get it right but do pretty well when it comes to putting aside all the biases and preconceived notions that can come from being on the Buckeye side of things.

This week, OSU hosts Wisconsin for both teams’ first Big Ten conference game of the year. The Badgers always seem to play Ohio State close and bring the physicality that will test the toughness and grit of this year’s squad again.

So what do Phil, Mark, and Josh think about what this Donnybrook in the ‘Shoe at night will look like? Here is what each of them says individually about the blackout affair.

Wisconsin Badgers vs. Ohio State Buckeyes: Odds show money movement toward OSU!

Wisconsin Badgers vs Ohio State Buckeyes: @Tipico odds show money movement toward OSU! #GoBucks

On Saturday, the Ohio State Buckeyes (3-0) will kick off against the Wisconsin Badgers (2-1) at 7:30 p.m. ET in Columbus, Ohio, in their fourth game of the season.

The Buckeyes have dominated this series, winning the last eight. Perhaps even more impressively, the Buckeyes are 6-2 against the spread during that time.

Our friends at Tipico, our official odds provider, originally released their odds and had Ohio State as a fairly large 17.5-point favorite. Believe it or not, the spread has grown wider. The Buckeyes are now favored by 18.5. In the grand scheme, one point that isn’t moving through a key number isn’t that big of a change. The total has also been released and sits at 56.5.

Now, whether or not that pans out on the field, we’ll have to see. Get your plans out of the way during the day tomorrow and get ready to settle in to watch what should be a good one.

Five reasons Ohio State will beat Wisconsin Saturday

We give you five reasons Ohio State will beat Wisconsin on Saturday night. #GoBucks

It’s time to queue up the Big Ten football schedule for Ohio State this weekend, and it starts with a bang. The Buckeyes host Wisconsin in the ‘Shoe at night on Saturday.

OSU has owned this matchup for the better part of a decade, but it’s always a battle when the Badgers bring in their physical brand of football.

There is no doubt the matchup will be a challenge, even though Vegas believes it’ll be at least a three-score win for the scarlet and gray. There are definitely some reasons to believe Ohio State will win the matchup, and that’s what we’re here for.

Don’t be surprised if this one’s closer than you think, but don’t be surprised either if OSU does what it needs to win and get off on the right foot with the Big Ten part of its schedule.

Here are five reasons Ohio State will beat Wisconsin on Saturday.

Ohio State football drops trailer for Wisconsin game

Another great amazing trailer for you to watch to prepare for the Wisconsin game. #GoBucks

It’s Thursday, and you know what that means during the Ohio State football season. It means we’ve been graced with another drop of the next theatrical trailer for the next football game, this time against the Wisconsin Badgers.

In case you’ve been out of the country or in a coma for a wee bit, Saturday’s game against Wisconsin will be a night game, and it’s also been dubbed a blackout game with the Buckeyes wearing their all-black alternate uniforms.

If you haven’t watched the trailer for the game dropped by the creative team, we’ve got it for you. We’ve run out of accolades for these, so just trust us when we say it’s worth expanding the video in high definition and turning the sound up for just a little over a minute and 30 seconds of your time, all thanks to the Ohio State Football Twitter account.

After watching this, don’t peak too soon if you are going to the game. Pace yourself after getting fired up, maybe watch it again before you head over to the ‘Shoe, and then be as loud as you can be.

Behind Enemy Lines: A discussion on Ohio State vs. Wisconsin with Badgers Wire’s Asher Low

We went behind enemy lines to talk Ohio State vs Wisconsin with Badgers Wire’s @alow_33. See what Wisconsin fans think of the OSU program and a lot more. #GoBucks

Ohio State has a fairly sizeable matchup Saturday night with the Wisconsin Badgers. It’s the first Big Ten game of the year for both teams, and this one will go a long way in determining which way the conference will go right out of the gate.

The Badgers have lost eight straight to Ohio State, but the games always seem to be a physical Donnybrook that is competitive and entertaining. It figures to be the same in the ‘Shoe during a blackout this time as well, despite what the oddsmakers say.

We always like to get some perspective from the opposition, and this week we’re in luck, because it just so happens we have a sister site for Wisconsin, Badgers Wire.

Site editor/writer Asher Low was kind enough to take some time to field some questions on the state of the Badger program and talk about Ohio State from a Wisconsin point of view. We think what he had to say was entertaining and engaging and hope you do too.

The following is our entire conversation for your scrolling and reading pleasure. And while you are at it, if you know anyone that’s a Wisconsin fan, or just want to get an idea of what they are saying in Madison beyond this, head on over to Badgers Wire and have a look around.

Five of Ohio State’s most memorable games vs. Wisconsin

Wisconsin Badgers v. Ohio State Buckeyes football series history #GoBucks

This Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET, the Ohio State Buckeyes will be facing off against the Wisconsin Badgers in Columbus, Ohio, and this will be the 85th time that these two programs have played each other. It makes sense that these two schools see so much of each other considering that they are conference opponents.

Ohio State is currently 61-18-5 in this series and their largest margin of victory came in 1979 under Earle Bruce when the Buckeyes rolled Wisconsin, 59-0. They also achieved the same score in 2014 under Urban Meyer in the Big Ten championship game (yes, that one). Unfortunately, the largest loss Ohio State faced against the Badgers was in 1999 under John Cooper when the Buckeyes lost 42-17.

Ohio State’s longest win streak was 21 victories from 1960-1980, but its longest losing streak was three from 1913-1915. We aren’t going to dive into every game Ohio State has ever played Wisconsin, but here are five memorable ones.

WATCH: What Wisconsin head coach Paul Chryst said about Ohio State before the game Saturday

Listen to what Wisconsin head coach Paul Chryst said about Ohio State in previewing the matchup on Saturday. #GoBucks

Now we get into the meat of the schedule. After beating up on nonconference foes, Ohio State begins Big Ten play, meaning any misstep along the way could foil conference championship plans — and with it — potential College Football Playoff desires.

The first conference game this year is a doozy, a division crossover game against the Wisconsin Badgers, who always seem to bring the physicality and toughness that plays well against the Buckeyes.

We like to keep an ear to what opposing coaches say about Ohio State leading up to and after the contest, so we had our attention laser-focused when Wisconsin head coach Paul Chryst met with the media on Monday to preview the titanic matchup.

In case you missed any of what Chryst said about Ohio State, we have the audio and video for you here thanks to the Wisconsin football YouTube channel. Hit play below and listen to Chryst talk about how well C.J. Stroud is playing, the talent the Buckeyes have across the board, what a challenge and opportunity this weekend will be and more.

We’ll have more preview and analysis leading up to the game on Saturday, so check back to Buckeyes Wire often to consume all you can handle when it comes to mentally preparing for what should be an entertaining game this weekend.

WATCH: Ryan Day previews Wisconsin

Hear what the head coach said in previewing the Wisconsin matchup. #GoBucks

As an Ohio State football fan, there are a few mile markers during the season to get you excited. The start of fall camp is one, as is the first game of the year, but after that, it’s when the Buckeyes step into the Big Ten to start a run at a conference championship.

There’s just something about getting the nonconference part of the schedule out of the way and then turning your attention to the meat and potatoes main course that goes along with Big Ten football in the fall. That’s where we are this week as Ohio State kicks off conference play after disposing of its first three opponents.

And the program that comes calling? Yep, it’s Wisconsin, a team that always seems to play OSU well. It’ll be a decent obstacle and one that is going to be one of the more physical contests you’ll see all year in the league.

Ohio State head coach Ryan Day met with the media on Tuesday to talk about what he sees with Wisconsin and to answer questions about his own team. We’re resharing the audio and video thanks to the Ohio State Buckeyes Facebook Page.

Get ready for the game by listening to Day talk about the challenge of playing Wisconsin, how diving into conference play ramps things up, some injury news, and more.

Ohio State to wear all black uniforms for Wisconsin game

It’s official. #GoBucks

It’s now official.

When the Ohio State football program announced that the game against Wisconsin would be a night game and asked for it to be a blackout, we all assumed that the Buckeyes would themselves also wear all black, but that was not confirmed.

Until now — or so it appears.

The Ohio State Football Twitter account teased us Tuesday with a video showing the traditional silver version with the stripe down the middle before it goes dark, revealing the black helmet with scarlet Buckeye leaves. It’s all set to a haunting O-H-I-O chant and music that should get you in the mood.

I have to admit, I had to mute it after having it replay over and over because it kind of gave me an eerie feeling. Hopefully, some Wisconsin players and fans see this and get the same vibe.

The Buckeyes have won eight straight over the Badgers and will look to keep the trend going when the game kicks off in the grand ‘ole Horseshoe at 7:30 p.m ET on ABC.

Ohio State leads Wisconsin at half in ranked Big Ten affair

Ohio State basketball leads Wisconsin at the half. Here’s how.

The Ohio State basketball team struggled taking care of the ball, especially mid-way through the first half but found a way to lock down Wisconsin on the defensive end and come back to lead 34-29 heading into the break. the Buckeyes held the Badgers to just 38.7 % from the floor.

The lead could be more if OSU would simply take care of the ball. Give Wisconsin credit for its defense, but the Buckeyes were charitable too often, turning the ball over ten times and fueling points on the other end. It was so bad at one point that Wisconsin was able to build an eight-point advantage midway through the first twenty minutes.

OSU might have turned it over far too often, but Ohio State got some of those possessions back by significantly outrebounding the Badgers 22-10. It also has shot the ball well, taking advantage of opportunities on offense by knocking down 15-of-26 (57.7%).

E.J. Liddell leads Ohio State with 14 points on 6-of-7 shooting through the first half, with guard Cedric Russel chipping in seven-point, making all three of his attempts so far.

This is still going to be a physical battle the rest of the way and Ohio State needs to do a better job of taking care of the basketball in the second half. It’s hard to believe it could turn the ball over ten more times and expect to win.
