Five things to watch when Ohio State takes on Northwestern Saturday

Five things to watch when Ohio State travels to play Northwestern on Saturday. #GoBucks

Let’s call Saturday what it is, shall we? If the Ohio State football game against Northwestern is anything but an opportunity to improve in areas the team needs with an uneventful win, we have real issues.

The Buckeyes are favored to beat the Wildcats by something close to a pinball score, and that means Ohio State will likely get a chance to rest players late in the game and establish some things that have been a topic of discussion the last couple of games.

Yeah, they still have to get things done on the field, but this is probably going to be a contest where we watch the game within the game. But what exactly?

Here are five things to watch when Ohio State travels to Northwestern to take on Chicago’s Big Ten team.

Ohio State football Northwestern game trailer

Get a look at the Northwestern game trailer Ohio State released on Thursday. #GoBucks

The Ohio State football team is headed to play “Chicago’s Big Ten team” on Saturday and that means a road trip many fans like to make. However, for the Buckeyes, it’s a business trip and one that they need to win to keep all of the lofty goals on the table.

The Wildcats don’t figure to give Ohio State much of a game. Pat Fitzgerald and company haven’t won a game on American soil in over a year and are  winless in the Big Ten.

However, as always, they have to play the game and work on some things to continue to get better heading down the home stretch of the season. To commemorate the trip to the Windy City, the Ohio State football creative team shared the weekly trailer for the game against Northwestern, and you’ll enjoy it like everyone always does.

“The fight” continues with “Chapter IX: The Fire.”

Ohio State and Northwestern are set to kick things off at noon on Fox. For those in the Chicagoland area, that’s 11 a.m. ET local time.

Massive early odds favor Ohio State over Northwestern

Ohio State is a heavy, massive favorite over Northwestern in early odds. #GoBucks

It’s that time of the week when we get the early odds for the college football games that will be taking place this weekend, and if you found our site or are a loyal reader, we’re sure you are interested in what the line has been set for Ohio State football’s matchup with Northwestern on Saturday.

As you would imagine, Ohio State is favored very, very heavily against arguably one of the worst teams in college football this year. We get our odds from Tipico, and the popular online sportsbook has the early odds with Ohio State being a massive -38.5 favorite.

That’s a huge number even with the game being in the friendly confines of “Chicago’s Big Ten team,” but it probably makes sense. Northwestern has just one win on the season and it took place across the pond in Ireland when the Wildcats beat Scott Frost’s Nebraska Cornhuskers.

We’ll keep an eye on these odds as we go throughout the week, but for now, that’s where things stand.

Three takeaways from Ohio State basketball’s win over Northwestern

Ohio State split the season series against Northwestern by controlling most of the game Wednesday night. Here are three takeaways.

After letting one get away in Evanston a couple of weeks ago, Ohio State was able to get a little bit of revenge against the Northwestern Wildcats Wednesday. The Buckeyes led almost the entire game, absorbed a late run, but pulled away at the end to win a key Big Ten matchup 81-71

There’s a lot to unpack here since Ohio State was without its two main ball-handlers. The Buckeyes still found a way to beat a team that can get hot from beyond the arc and make life difficult on any team.

As we do after every game, here are three things we can take away from the OSU’ win over Northwestern to run their overall record to 10-3, and the Big Ten record to 4-3.

It’s a thing of beauty, and we can’t wait to see what we get next from the Ohio State creative team as we lead into the Sugar Bowl this week.

Ahh, doesn’t it involve a lot less stress going through all of this knowing that Ohio State was victorious?

WATCH: What Northwestern basketball head coach Chris Collins said about Ohio State after the game

Northwestern head coach Chris Collins discussed the win over Ohio State Saturday and had some high praise for the Buckeyes.

The Ohio State basketball team went on the road and lost a hard-fought, one-point game against the Northwestern Wildcats. It was the type of game the Buckeyes will most likely believe is one that got away. Still, you have to give the Wildcats credit for playing through adversity and making the plays down the stretch to win the game and remain unbeaten in the Big Ten.

Northwestern head coach Chris Collins met with the media after the game to discuss what he saw from his team and Ohio State, and he had some extremely flattering things to say about Chris Holtmann and the personnel of the Buckeyes.

In case you missed any of what he said, we’ve got all of his comments thanks to the YouTube channel of Northwestern Athletics. Watch the below video and listen to Collins talk about the physicality of Ohio State, how seasoned and prepared the Buckeyes are, the respect he has for Holtmann, and much more.

Ohio State basketball vs. Northwestern preview, prediction, and odds

Ohio State hits the road to take on a Northwestern Wildcat basketball team playing at a high level. We’ve got your preview and prediction.

Records

Ohio State 7-1, Northwestern 5-1

Broadcast, TV, Game Time

Date: Saturday, December 26
Game Time: 2:00 p.m. EST
Venue: Welsch-Ryan Arena, Evanston, IL
Network: FS1

It looks to be yet another stern test for the Ohio State basketball team. After polishing off a rather impressive win against a highly ranked Rutgers squad, the Buckeyes must travel to Evanston to take on a Northwestern team that’s playing some excellent basketball.

While the Wildcats weren’t expected to contend for much during all the preseason buzz in the Big Ten, they’ve done nothing but impress. The only loss is a one-point game against Pitt, and they already have one of the best wins of the young conference season, a double-digit home win against Michigan State.

It’ll take an Ohio State team playing at the top of its game to pull this one off, and we’ve got everything you need to know for the game. We start with the likely game plan for the Buckeyes to walk out a victor on this, the day after Christmas.

Next … The Ohio State game plan

Ohio State basketball slightly favored over Northwestern according to BetMGM

The Ohio State basketball team is a slight favorite over Northwestern according to the line set by the popular sportsbook BetMGM.

The Ohio State basketball team won’t have much time recoup from Christmas as it travels to Evanston, Illinois to take on a Northwestern team that is playing really well. The Wildcats have already knocked off one of the big boys in the league with an impressive win over Michigan State at home, and the only loss is a one-point affair against Pitt.

In other words, the Buckeyes will be challenged despite playing some pretty good basketball themselves.  But so is life in the big city of rough and tumble Big Ten.

The popular online sportsbook BetMGM agrees as well. It has Ohio State favored by just -3.5 points against a team that isn’t expected to contend near the top of the league, though we’ll have to let it all play out.

Odds courtesy of BetMGM Sportsbook.

It’s another day in the Big Ten, and the Buckeyes will have to bring their A-game to continue a very good start to the season.

Ohio State basketball vs. Northwestern: How and where to watch and listen to the game Saturday

Ohio State basketball travels to Evanston to take on Northwestern in a key Big Ten contest. Here’s how to find the game to watch or listen.

The Ohio State basketball team travels on the road to take on Northwestern after a big win at home against a highly ranked Rutgers squad. The victory evened the Buckeyes’ Big Ten record to 1-1 and improved the overall record to 7-1.

And while that’s great, the conference is a Donnybrook. That means it’s on to yet another challenge, playing a Wildcat team that is 5-1 and has a win over a fourth-ranked Michigan State team already on the young season. In other words, it’s never an easy night or day in the Big Ten, and that applies here.

We know you’re looking for something to do after Christmas day to de-fuzz and get back into the swing of things, so we’ve got all the information you need to find and watch or listen to the game.
