Fox does massive numbers for Ohio State vs. Michigan

Ohio State vs. Michigan last Saturday was one of the most-watched regular-season college football games of the last few years.

It isn’t really that much of a surprise that the Ohio State vs Michigan game was a massive hit for Fox this year. I mean, you had two top-five teams doing battle in what had huge College Football Playoff and Big Ten Championship implications.

What is somewhat surprising, is that the game metered the highest ratings of any regular-season college football game on Fox … ever. Yes, like since these things have been tracked. In fact, according to the release from Fox PR, “The Game” was the most-watched college football regular-season game since 2019 on any network. That year, folks sat down with their sweet tea and grits and took in Alabama vs. LSU.

The contest between the old rivals drew 15,893,000 viewers on Saturday, which is considerable considering no other game aside from the Alabama vs. Auburn game got over 10,000,000 views this season.

OSU vs. Michigan always draws a large audience and often leads when it comes to viewership for a regular-season game, but the numbers were even 27% higher than the 2019 game.

We’re going to go out on a limb here and say that there’s going to be a very large audience take this one in again during the year of our Lord 2022. Ohio State will be looking to correct the variance in the rivalry that occurred this season and restore order in the universe. People will tune in for that.

Mark it down.

Oh, and also: Ohio State vs. Michigan > Alabama vs. Auburn. Don’t let them tell you any different.

Michigan beats Ohio State, stops eight-game losing streak

Not how we saw it going… But credit to Michigan.

Jim Harbaugh and Michigan have finally gotten the monkey their back, beating Ohio State in a game that wasn’t really all that close. The final score was 42-27, but OSU got whipped up front all day long, unable to stop the Michigan rushing attack by yielding 297 yards rushing and six touchdowns.

Perhaps even more surprising was Ohio State’s inability to make any halftime adjustments. In fact, the Buckeyes absorbed an early blow when Michigan went right down the field on the first drive to score a touchdown. OSU settled in, took a 10-7 lead, and went into halftime down just 14-13 with the knowledge that it would receive the ball in the second half.

But it wasn’t meant to be. The Buckeyes committed far too many turnovers to kill drives, but more than anything, couldn’t provide any kind of resistance against the rush, even after scoring to cut the lead to eight with just over four minutes to go. The Wolverines promptly went right down the field and put the game away.

For Jim Harbaugh, it’s his first win over Ohio State in six tries, and it ends a losing streak of eight games for Michigan. With the win, the Wolverines earn a shared Big Ten East division title with the Buckeyes, but get the head-to-head tiebreaker and will go to Indianapolis to face either Wisconsin or Iowa.

OSU will likely still head to a New Year’s Six game, and will still have a Big Ten East title to brag about but make no mistake, this will be a bitter pill to swallow.

Rivalry on now.

Ohio State vs. Michigan three and out halftime review

Ohio State vs. Michigan three and out halftime review. Here’s what we’ve seen so far. #GoBucks

The Ohio State Buckeyes are currently losing to the Michigan Wolverines at halftime, but the results are a little too close for comfort at 14-13. We knew this game would be a tough one, but if you are like me, you are expecting the Buckeyes to really explode and separate in the second half. Or, so we hope.

The defense let the Wolverines walk right down the field on their first drive, but ever since, Ohio State has made life more difficult aside from a touchdown drive before the half. It is chilly and snowing ever so slightly in Ann Arbor, but let’s hope we see some kind of explosion from the Buckeyes in the second half. The following are three things that warrant monitoring from the first half.

WATCH: Ohio State’s Garrett Wilson hauls in an incredible touchdown catch

Wow! Garrett Wilson hauls in an incredible touchdown pass to give Ohio State its first lead of the game.

The Buckeye offense has been sputtering just a bit and C.J. Stroud is showing some nervousness about playing in “The Game” for the first time in his career. But Stroud has complete confidence in his receivers and for good reason. The three-headed monster might be the greatest trio of receivers in college football history.

Check out the amazing catch that Wilson brought in to give OSU a 10-7 lead midway through the second quarter.

The Ohio State defense has kept Michigan in check since the opening drive and will look to get the ball back to the Buckeye offense.

Ohio State came out of the gates sluggish. Michigan received the opening drive and promptly went 10 plays for the score. The Buckeye offense sputtered to a 3-and-out, giving Michigan good field position again.

Wolverine quarterback Cade McNamara dropped back in threw towards the endzone but didn’t see No. 17 roaming as Bryson Shaw came across the middle for the interception. The pick was returned for 20 yards giving OSU new life.

Check out the nice hands by the Buckeye safety

Both teams are 10-1 and head into Saturday’s matchup with the highest-ranking between the two since the double-overtime classic in 2016. The Bucks have been impressive with back-to-back victories over ranked opponents.

The Wolverines have looked like a much-improved team since a fourth-quarter meltdown that resulted in a loss to in-state rival Michigan State. Since then, Michigan has dispatched Penn State and Maryland, both on the road.

It could be a clash of titans. Time to get ready for the one that really matters.

Ohio State availability report for Michigan

Here is who is available/unavailable for the Michigan game. #GoBucks

Each game day, the fine folks at Ohio State provide an availability report. It’s a break from the norm for most programs that give media members a better idea of what’s going on with an injury report, but it’s what we have and it’s still worth noting.

An OSU spokesman just provided the update to the availability for Michigan and we can tell you that the Buckeyes are pretty healthy for a game at this point in the season. Master Teague is unavailable, Harry Miller continues to still be sidelined, and secondary will lose some depth without the services of Sevyn Banks.

Aside from that though, most everyone is ready to go for the 117th installment of The Game. Here’s a complete availability and injury report for the titanic struggle between two top ten teams.

Ohio State vs. Michigan Buckeyes Wire staff predictions

Ohio State #Buckeyes vs. Michigan Wolverines: Buckeyes Wire staff predictions

The Ohio State Buckeyes took the Michigan State Spartans behind the shed last week, winning, 56-7. The Buckeyes are now ranked No. 2 in the College Football Playoff rankings and will take on the Michigan Wolverines who are ranked No. 6 in the College Football Playoff rankings this Saturday at noon. All Ohio State has to do is win out and then they are in the College Football Playoff, but this will be the toughest two games of the season.

The Buckeyes are favored by more than a touchdown over the Wolverines and honestly that low of a number was a bit shocking considering how elite Ohio State has looked. Last week all three of us predicted that Ohio State would blow out the Spartans, but let’s see what the staff thinks will happen this week.

Three reasons Michigan could cause issues for Ohio State on Saturday

Yes, it’s true. Michigan could cause some issues for Ohio State. Here are three things that could create some problems for the Buckeyes Saturday. #GoBucks

It is here. We are on the doorstep of what many consider the greatest rivalry in all of American sport. And while Michigan hasn’t kept up its end of the bargain over the last twenty years vs. Ohio State, it’s still a game that many watch no matter where their allegiances lie.

But wait. Despite getting the football pulled out from under them by the Buckeyes on an annual basis, the Wolverines are feeling pretty optimistic this season because of a 10-1 record and No. 6 next to their name in the College Football Playoff Rankings. Michigan has looked like a much more physical, focused, and hungry bunch this season, and that can’t be taken lightly.

Each week here at Buckeyes Wire, we give you some reasons why the opposition might make life difficult on Ohio State, and this one seems sincere. Whether or not OSU once again administers a super-wedgie to the maize and blue once again remains to be seen.

Here are three things that could cause issues for Ohio State in the 117th meeting of these two old rivals.

Five reasons Ohio State beats Michigan in ‘The Game’ on Saturday

Are you worried? Here are five reasons we believe Ohio State comes out on top again vs. Michigan in “The Game.” #GoBucks

The Ohio State Buckeyes utterly destroyed the Michigan State Spartans last weekend, 56-7. This giant victory over another top ten opponent forced the College Football Playoff committee to adjust and raise Ohio State to No. 2 in the country, but it remains very clear there is no room for any further error if the Buckeyes want to get into the Playoff.

As a matter of fact, the Buckeyes aren’t even guaranteed a place in the Big Ten Championship game unless they come out of Ann Arbor victorious. Michigan currently sits at 10-1 and is ranked No. 6 in the country. The Wolverines’ playoff hopes are very much alive as it is hard to imagine if they beat Ohio State and win the Big Ten, the committee keeping them out. It’s an intriguing matchup, and Michigan fans, players, and coaches are extremely optimistic.

However, here are five reasons I believe Ohio State will win its ninth-straight contest vs. the Michigan Wolverines.
