WATCH what Iowa basketball head coach Fran McCaffrey, players said about Ohio State after the loss

Iowa coach Fran McCaffrey and a couple of the Hawkeye players met with the media to talk about Ohio State after the loss to the Buckeyes.

The Ohio State basketball team travels well apparently. It went on the road yet again — this time against Iowa — and beat a top ten team in an entertaining up and down, high scoring game. It was the fourth top-fifteen win this year, a program first.

To be fair, the game could have gone either way, but the Buckeyes battled back from eleven down in the second half to win this top ten matchup.

Iowa head coach Fran McCaffrey and a couple of the players met with the media afterward to discuss the game and what they saw from Ohio State.

In case you’re interested in what the opposition says (we are), then we’ve got the video and audio thanks to the Hawkeye Nation YouTube Channel. Watch and listen below as McCaffery talks about Ohio State’s shooters, how his team battled against a really good team, and even more from some of the Hawkeye players.

WATCH: Ohio State head coach Chris Holtmann, players Duane Washington and Kyle Young discuss Iowa win

Ohio State basketball coach Chris Holtmann, as well as players Kyle Young and Duane Washington, discuss the huge win over Iowa postgame.

The Ohio State basketball team just keeps rattling off big win after big win. The latest was a win over an extremely talented Iowa team in Iowa City. One in which the Buckeyes had to battle back from being down eleven points in the second half.

You have to wonder if even OSU head coach Chris Holtmann has begun to marvel at what this team has done over the last few weeks with wins at Iowa, at Illinois, at Wisconsin, and at Rutgers. No easy feat in a league as deep and talented as the Big Ten is.

Holtmann met with the media afterward to discuss what he saw from his team, the journey it is on, and how much respect he has for this Iowa team. You can watch and listen to all of his comments thanks to our YouTube Channel and the fine folks at Ohio State.

Another great win for Ohio State, but there isn’t much time to celebrate. The Buckeyes next travel on the road again to take on Maryland.

Ohio State trails Iowa after high scoring first half of action

Ohio State and Iowa are embattled in a high-scoring affair. The Buckeyes trail the Hawkeyes at halftime of an entertaining up and down game.

Ohio State and Iowa are putting on an offensive display in Iowa City, Iowa. The Buckeyes got out to a hot start, leading by as much as eight, but the Hawkeyes reeled OSU back in and went into the locker room up 45-42 thanks in large part to a 7-of-14 from beyond the arc.

Justice Sueing leads Ohio State with ten points on 4-of-7 shooting. He’s been able to get penetration in the lane and knock down some high percentage shots. E.J. Liddell and Duane Washington are second in scoring with seven points apiece.

The game has been a fun up and down affair to watch with most of the stats pretty even aside from the three-point shooting. The Buckeyes haven’t allowed Luka Garza to go off, have matched the Hawkeyes in taking care of the ball and turnovers, just haven’t been able to get the volume of shots to go down from deep like the Hawkeyes.

If you’re an Ohio State fan, there’s a lot of good to build on here. If OSU can play a similar half and Iowa slows down from bombing away with accuracy from deep, you have to feel good about how things might play out.

Twenty more minutes to go in snowy Iowa City. First team to 90 wins?

The road doesn’t get any easier for the Ohio State basketball team. After two wins last week over an upstart Penn Stats squad, and a reeling, yet still talented Michigan State team, the Buckeyes now have the daunting task of traveling to Iowa City to take on one of the most talented teams in the country, the Iowa Hawkeyes.

It’s a top ten matchup with both squads in a virtual tie for third place, and just 1.5 games out of first. The winner stays in the conversation for a conference title run, while the loser is faced with a significant setback toward that end goal.

As we do before every game, we provide you with some key players, a potential game plan, and of course, a prediction.

Ohio State basketball moderate underdog to Iowa according to BetMGM

Ohio State is hitting the road Thursday night to take on the Iowa Hawkeyes. The popular BetMGM Sportsbook has the Buckeyes as an underdog.

Ohio State has a big one tonight in Iowa City. It’s a top ten matchup between the Buckeyes and Hawkeyes in what could go a long way in deciding which team stays in the hunt for the Big Ten championship vs. which one has a harder uphill climb the rest of the way.

For OSU, it’s another road contest against another highly ranked team. The Buckeyes have proven several experts and predictions wrong in games that took place in Madison, Champaign, and Piscataway. Can they do it again?

With that in mind, the oddsmakers believe Iowa is a decent favorite in this one. In fact, BetMGM Sportsbook has the Hawkeyes as a 5.5 favorite heading into the contest if you are into that sort of thing.

Odds courtesy of BetMGM Sportsbook.

Iowa has arguably the best player in the country in big man Luka Garza, and several scorers and playmaker around him, so it’ll be a challenge. We’ll have to see if Ohio State is up to the task again.

Ohio State basketball vs. Iowa: How and where to watch and listen to the game Thursday

All the information you need to see or hear Ohio State basketball as they travel to Iowa for a top-ten matchup.

It’s no secret the Big Ten Conference is really good. And tonight, we get a top ten matchup when No. 7 Ohio State travels to Iowa City to face the No. 8 Iowa Hawkeyes.

The Buckeyes haven’t played since knocking off Michigan State by a margin of 17 points on Sunday. Iowa then played Sparty two days later beating MSU by 6.

It will be interesting to see how OSU handles the size of the Hawkeyes. Luka Garza is a beast at 6 feet, 11 inches, can play inside and out, averages 26.5 points per game, and shoots over 45 percent from beyond the arc. Iowa also has another almost seven-footer in Jack Nunge. It could be a matchup problem for the Buckeyes who top out at 6 feet, 8 inches.

Tonight’s game has huge implications in the Big Ten standings as well. Ohio State and Iowa are both currently tied for third place finding themselves just a game and a half behind conference leader, Michigan.

Ohio State basketball loses to Iowa: 5 things we learned

Ohio State went to Iowa and got down big early and couldn’t reel things back in. Here are five things we learned after the loss.

Ohio State went to Iowa City and got schooled by a hungrier, tougher, and more composed Iowa team — losing 85-76.

It was always going to be a tough proposition to win on the road against a ranked team that likes to get up and down the court, but became even harder when the Buckeyes dug themselves a deep hole to start the game.

At the end of the day, it was another loss on the road where Ohio State looked like a shell of its home self. It doesn’t get any easier for the Buckeyes as they must now head back home to host a Maryland team that has enough pieces to make a deep run in March.

Here are five things we learned after watching this one.

Next … Where’s the toughness

Ohio State basketball trails Iowa at halftime after sloppy start

Ohio State came out of the gate slow and fell down big to Iowa early. It headed to the locker room down by eleven.

A troubling pattern is emerging for the Ohio State basketball team. Once again, it went on the road and struggled early with ball security, defense, and toughness. The team has been far different at home than away from it, and it happened again during the first half of the contest at Iowa.

The Hawkeyes came out with hot shooting, and more emotion than the Buckeyes and raced out to a double-digit lead. The margin got as wide as eighteen points. If there’s good news though, Ohio State started to play better and got the deficit down to eight points just before halftime, before giving up a three to go into the locker room down by eleven at 46-35.

E.J. Liddell has kept Ohio State in the game, having his best half of basketball in a Buckeye uniform. He leads the team with eleven points on 5 of 7 shooting, and also has three rebounds. The next highest scorer for Ohio State is Kyle Young with six points. Kaleb Wesson has just four points — making just 2 of his 7 shots.

Offense wasn’t a problem for Iowa. The Hawkeyes shot 62.1 percent from the field, led by Luka Garza’s 17 points. He’s been a beast underneath and nearly unstoppable. The 6-11, 260 lb. big man has made 7 of 9 shots, 2 of 4 from beyond the arc.

Now Ohio State has the daunting task of trying to reel in a very good Iowa team after expending so much energy just getting back in the game. We’ll see if it’s up to the task in the next twenty minutes.

Ohio State vs. Iowa basketball: 5 keys for a Buckeye victory

Ohio State travels to Iowa Thursday night to take on a ranked Iowa team. It won’t be easy, but here’s three keys to a victory.

This is going to be a tough one for the Ohio State basketball team. Iowa is a team that can go inside or outside and can score in bunches. The home crowd at home will be all lathered up as well and will give the Hawkeyes an emotional boost with OSU coming to town.

Both teams are ranked in the top 25, but we don’t have to tell you how hard it is to win on the road in the Big Ten, especially against a ranked team the caliber of what the Buckeyes will see Thursday night.

But as daunting as it may seem to win in Iowa City, it’s not impossible. Penn State was able to get the job done, and so was Depaul and San Diego State earlier in the year.

Here’s five things Ohio State must do in order to spoil the night of the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Next … Slow and steady

Ohio State at Iowa 2020 basketball preview, prediction, and odds

Ohio State hits the road to take on a very good Iowa team. Here’s a preview, prediction, and odds for the Big Ten matchup.

Records

Ohio State 17-8 (7-7), Purdue 18-8 (9-6)

Broadcast, TV, Game Time

Date: Thursday, February 20
Game Time: 7:00 PM
Venue: Carver-Hawkeye Arena, Iowa City, IA
Network: ESPN

The Ohio State basketball team seems to have righted the ship a bit after having an issue keeping up with any New Year’s Resolutions in January. After winning five of the last six, it now hits the road to take on a very talented Iowa team that likes to get up and down the court.

It’s another road game in the Big Ten, and getting a win away from home hasn’t been easy for anyone in the league. It’ll be no different here. The Buckeyes must bring their best game to have any shot of pulling off what would be considered an upset.

A win would be huge and would get Ohio State over .500 in the league for the first time since early December. A loss, and there’s still some work to do in a very difficult conference.
