Clemson football all-time roster: Offensive starters and backups

See which legends made the cut in our all-time Clemson football roster, starting with the offensive starters and backups.

A program with a long, rich history, Clemson has seen a lot of great teams with a lot of incredible talent over the years as the program has developed into a marquee name in college football.

On the offensive side of the ball, the Tigers have had some exceptional players who have helped Clemson achieve greatness. From the freshman who led his team to a national championship in Trevor Lawrence to Jerry Butler and “The Catch,” Clemson has seen some remarkable offensive talents come through the program.

Becoming a premier program more recently under current head coach Dabo Swinney, Clemson has seen many of the program’s best offensive talent suit up for the Tigers in the past couple of decades.

Wondering what an all-time Clemson roster would look like? We’ve got you covered! Clemson Wire and the rest of our College Wire sites recently put together our all-time program rosters.

Here’s a look at our choices for the offensive starters and backups on Clemson football’s all-time roster:

Former Ohio State forward Kyle Young has retired from basketball

We’ll keep an eye on what’s next in store for Kyle Young. #GoBucks

Former Ohio State forward Kyle Young announced his retirement from basketball on Thursday.

If you follow OSU athletics — and if you are here there’s a good chance you do — then there are two things about Young you know. First, he was plagued by injuries throughout his career in Columbus. Second, and more importantly, he is one whale of a human being and that translated over to the court where he did a little of everything and was the best of teammates, often called the glue of the team.

He came back for a fifth year last season to experience a postseason that got cut short in 2020-2021 and still had his share of ailments to deal with. The good news is that he did get a shot to be a part of an NCAA Tournament win, and that had to make the end of his Buckeye career a little more palatable.

You had to wonder whether Young’s body would allow him to play professionally somewhere, likely overseas, and now we have that answer after he announced his plans on Twitter.

“The game of basketball has brought so much joy in my life and I’m forever thankful for what it has done for me,” wrote Young. “I’ve decided the time has come to hang ’em up and start something new. Excited for a new chapter in my life.”

Words cannot express the amount of respect and admiration many that have followed the Ohio State program over the last few years have for Young, and we’ll certainly keep tabs on what is in store for him next. We wouldn’t be surprised to see him making his way through the coaching ranks sometime soon.

Ohio State basketball players Twitter reaction to season ending

Say what you want about this team, but the reaction from some of the players to the end of the season says it was a close bunch.

It’s time to turn the page on the 2021-2022 Ohio State basketball season after the Buckeyes were knocked out of the NCAA Tournament by No. 2 seed Villanova.

It was a season that never quite materialized as anyone thought because of the injuries and COVID-19 pause, but when this team played to its potential, it was able to beat the likes of Duke, Illinois, and Wisconsin. At the end of it all, Ohio State went dancing for the fourth-straight year and had yet another 20-win season, something it has done every year under Chris Holtmann.

If you’ve ever played in any contest that had such a finality to it like what OSU experienced on Sunday, then you get how much disappointment can go along with it. At the same time, there is a sense of pride for what a group of competitors accomplished throughout a long season that had its share of tough workouts, disappointing losses, and exhilarating wins.

Some of the Ohio State players took to Twitter to commemorate and react to the abrupt end of the season and they are all worth a look. As you would expect from a Holtmann-coached team, the reactions were classy and sentimental in nature.

Here’s how some of the players reacted.

Kyle Young out for Big Ten Tournament opener, Zed Key game time decision

After missing last postseason because of a concussion, Kyle Young finds himself in familiar territory, unfortunately.

Ohio State has played a lot of games coming down the stretch of Big Ten play and the coaching staff was hopeful that a little time off would help the team get healthy. Already spending the season without forwards Justice Sueing and Seth Towns, the Buckeyes lost Zed Key to an ankle injury and Kyle Young to concussion protocols over the last couple of games.

However, according to head coach Chris Holtmann, there is still cause for concern on that front. While holding a media appearance Wednesday, Holtmann said that Young is still out and that Key will be a game-time decision. Guard Meechie Johnson will be available after turning his ankle

With Young out and Key questionable, we could see more of Joey Brunk again. He was an unexpected force against Michigan State at home last week but kept more in check against Michigan on Sunday.

Ohio State will play the winner of Minnesota and Penn State on Thursday night.

Zed Key and Kyle Young unavailable for game against Michigan State

We’ll have to see how this impacts Ohio State on the blocks against Michigan State. #GoBucks

The Ohio State basketball team is reeling. After being right in the thick of the Big Ten regular-season title race, the Buckeyes have lost two in a row, and three of five to make it even a tough journey to even get a double-bye in the upcoming Big Ten Tournament.

If OSU has any designs of finishing in the top four and being in a good position, it absolutely must take care of business against Michigan State on Thursday night. Unfortunately, big men Zed Key and Kyle Young will be unavailable (subscription may be required) for the game in the Schott according to the availability report, leaving the Ohio State frontcourt thin and depleted.

Key rolled an ankle against Sunday and is still recovering, while Young left the game against Nebraska with an undisclosed illness. This team is struggling enough without having some of its key contributors, but it must continue on against a Spartan ballclub that’s also looking to turn things around.

You can catch the game at 7 p.m. EST and see if Ohio State can get back in the win column.

Ohio State hangs tough, down by one at halftime to Illinois

The Ohio State basketball team fell down by double digits early but battled back and is down by just one point at the half vs. Illinois.

It looked like the Ohio State basketball team was going to get run out of the gym early against Illinois in Champaign, but the Buckeyes fought back and trail by just one point, 37-36, at halftime.

Kyle Young has been the star of the first half for OSU. He finished with 13 points on 5-of-5 shooting from the field. He also pulled down five rebounds to help Ohio State hang in there on the boards, down just 16 to the Illini’s 18. A reportedly ailing E.J. Liddell, along with Malaki Branham have also had good halves, with eight and ten points respectively.

Illinois looked like it was going to take control of the game midway through the first half, but then got called for a flagrant 1 that seemed to turn the momentum of the game back around. Ohio State went on a run and the rest of the half was played within seven points all the way to the buzzer.

If there’s a trouble spot on defense, it’s been from beyond the arc. While the Buckeyes have paid a lot of attention to Kofi Cockburn in the post, sharp-shooter Alfonso Plummer has been able to fill it up from deep. He has a whopping 18 points on 6-of-7 from 3-point range and has been able to wiggle free while OSU has held Cockburn to just nine points on 4-of-12 shooting.

Despite the nip and tuck score at the break, Ohio State has yet to lead in the game. Illinois has led by as much as 13 points, but it’s the final tally on the scoreboard through the second half that will matter the most.

Let’s hope OSU can build on what it did through the second part of the half and find a way to steal this one on the road.

Kyle Young available for game against Indiana Thursday

Looks like we’ll see one one of OSU’s heart and soul players back on the court against Indiana! #GoBucks

After not being available for Ohio State’s first game back from a COVID-19 pause, Kyle Young will be available for the game against the Indiana Hoosiers on Thursday night.

Young was not available when the Buckeyes resumed their season on the road against Nebraska on Sunday because of a “non-COVID” illness, but is not listed as unavailable for Thursday night’s trip to Bloomington. Young has already missed one other game this year — the season opener — because of a vestibular dysfunction condition, but had been an integral part of a very good start to the season — until COVID-19 put the season on hold.

The only two players listed as unavailable are guard Justice Sueing and Seth Towns, who are both still nursing and rehabbing injuries.

The Buckeyes will tip-off against Big Ten foe Indiana at 7 p.m. EST on Thursday. The Hoosiers are 10-3 overall on the season and sit at 1-2 in the league, with losses coming at the hands of Wisconsin and Penn State.

Five things we think we learned from Ohio State basketball’s win over Akron

There was plenty to discuss after Ohio State’s narrow victory on the hardwood Tuesday night. Here are five things we think we learned.

College basketball is back. That means Ohio State is on the hardwood and opened its season against in-state opponent Akron on Tuesday night. If you watched any of the game, it was sure to frustrate, perplex, and worry you with the close-knit affair that broke out somewhat unexpectedly.

It all came down to the wire with a back and forth ending that ended with a dramatic buzzer-beater by Ohio State to stave off a big upset with a 67-66 win.

We like to reflect after each contest and pull the layers of the basketball onion back to come up with some key takeaways from the game, and there’s plenty to ponder after our first real look at the 2021-2022 version of the Ohio State basketball squad.

Here are five things we think we learned after all the hoopla ended on Tuesday night.

Kyle Young out indefinitely, but expected back

Here’s to hoping Young is on the road to recovery soon!

Ohio State basketball forward Kyle Young has dealt with about all you can during his time in Columbus. He’s dealt with lower-body issues, a concussion, and more in just five years that have all contributed to some significant missed time both in practice and in games.

And now he’ll have to battle another health issue before the season gets off the ground. Just when you thought he was ready to take his “super-senior” year by storm and finally put it all together, head coach Chris Holtmann announced that Young will be out to start the year after being diagnosed with a “vestibular dysfunction.” In layman’s terms as best as we can, it’s basically an issue with the body’s balance system and can lead to things like vertigo, nausea, vomiting, and more.

As far as how long Ohio State will be without Young, it’s hard to tell because of the nature of the condition, but Holtmann does not expect it to be a season-long thing.

“We don’t see this as a long-term injury,” Holtmann said. “We also don’t have a specific timeline right now for him to return. He has been out for a little bit here with that condition.”

Without Young out, and with fellow forward Seth Towns just now getting back to conditioning activity after undergoing a procedure for a herniated disk, Ohio State will have to find minutes from other spots to make up for the loss of bodies. E.J. Liddell will obviously get plenty of time at the position, but Holtmann also mentioned some creativity with lineups that might need to occur.

“We’re looking at a couple different options with he (Young) and Seth out,” Holtmann said. “Obviously, E.J. (Liddell) will log a significant amount of minutes at that position, but you could also see a multitude of guys — whether it’s Gene Brown, Justin Ahrens, Justice Sueing — a number of those guys.”

Ohio State sure has health with its fair share of injuries and health concerns over the last few seasons, and it looks like that will continue for the 2021-2022 season. There’s not much time to figure it all out either because things will get underway before you know it. OSU will have a scrimmage against Indianapolis on Monday before tipping off against Akron on 11/9.

We of course wish Young a speedy plan of treatment and recovery.

Projecting the Ohio State basketball starting lineup, key players for next season 3.0

Now that we know what E.J. Liddell and Duane Washington are going to do, here’s an updated look at what the starting lineup and rotation could be for OSU hoops next season. What do you think?

As soon as the season ended, we went through an exercise of projecting what Ohio State basketball’s starting lineup and key contributors could look like for the 2021-2022 season. We then followed that up after some more changes. Musa Jallow transferred out of the program. The Buckeyes brought in Penn State transfer guard Jabari Wheeler and Indiana transfer Joey Brunk. Kyle Young surprised everyone by deciding to come back for one more season.

And now, with both NBA decisions being made by E.J. Liddell (he’s returning) and Duane Washington (he’s not), the roster is as set as it has ever been. Yeah, seems like the perfect time to go through projecting the Ohio State basketball lineup again. Sure, we could still see a transfer add maybe, but more or less, we know the general landscape of everything.

With all of that in mind, here is our third — and likely final effort — at projecting what the five starters for the next hoops season at Ohio State could look like, with a run through the rest of the key contributors.

As always, and as we’ve stated before, we reserve the right to change this and be wrong, because — well, college basketball.

Next … The projected starting lineup
