Ohio State vs Iowa: Best prop bets for this Week 8 Big Ten clash

Breaking down the best prop bets for Ohio State-Iowa.

The No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes (6-0, 4-0) host the Iowa Hawkeyes (3-3, 1-2) on Saturday. These teams haven’t met on the field since 2017, when the Hawkeyes defeated Urban Meyer’s Buckeyes, 55-24. Despite the loss, Ohio State won the Big Ten and won the Cotton Bowl Classic against USC.

The two teams are trending in completely different directions. CJ Stroud’s offense is putting up huge numbers and Iowa can’t seem to find an offense at all. It averages 14.7 points per game, which is No. 126 nationally. Ohio State has the nation’s No. 1 scoring offense with 48.8 points per game.

The Hawkeyes’ top-three scoring defense will have its work cut out; no team has played within three scores against the Buckeyes since Week 2. Tipico has this game as a 30.5-point spread in favor of Ohio State.

With kickoff just over 24 hours away, we check in with the best prop bets for this showdown featuring cross-divisional opponents.

Get a perspective from the Iowa sideline on the game between the Buckeyes and Hawkeyes Saturday. #GoBucks

Ohio State and Iowa are both coming off of a bye week and set to do battle in Columbus this Saturday in the ‘Shoe. It’s another step on a journey to what the Buckeyes hope will end in some pretty special things this year.

And while the Hawkeyes have struggled mightily on offense, ranking dead last in offensive yards per game so far in 2022, they have a formidable defense that will make Ohio State earn its way down the field to score points.

Every week, we like to get some intel and perspective from the opposite sideline when we can, and it just so happens that we have a sister site, Hawkeyes Wire, to help us out this week. We reached out to Josh Helmer to get an Iowa fan slant on this game.

And while you are at it, if you know an Iowa fan or just want to get some more content from the opposite sideline, head on over to Hawkeyes Wire and check out the quality content they are pumping out.

We try to do it every week when video is available, and thanks to the Iowa Hawkeyes YouTube channel, we have Ferentz’s entire press conference for you to listen to and soak in.

Ohio State loses to Iowa, its third defeat in a row. Three takeaways.

The Ohio State basketball team is suddenly reeling, having lost its third straight game, this time a blowout at the hands of Iowa.

After looking almost unbeatable over the last month of the season, the Ohio State basketball team has now dropped three in a row, this time to the Iowa Hawkeyes at home 73-57.

The loss drops the Buckeyes to fourth place in the Big Ten, and elevates Iowa to third place as we get ever so closer to the end of the regular season with a top-four seed on the line to get that double-bye in the conference tournament. Purdue is right on the heels of Ohio State.

OSU has just one game remaining in the regular season, and a season that had been so promising now has some answers that will need to be figured out as the postseason nears.

As usual, here are three takeaways from the game.

NEXT … This team looks tired

A lackluster Ohio State team down big to Iowa at half

Ohio State looked like a tired and disorganized bunch in the first half against Iowa. The Buckeyes are down big and need answers quickly.

This Ohio State basketball team looks physically and mentally drained. It’ll need to find a way to battle its way out of the funk it’s in to get back in the game against a physical and offensive-minded Iowa squad. The Hawkeyes have been the more energetic and focused ball club and head into the locker room up 42-28 at the half.

If there’s been a bright spot for the Buckeyes, it’s been the play of E.J. Liddell. He leads Ohio State in points at halftime, scoring 13 points on 6-of-10 shooting. Duane Washington is the next leading scorer with five points, and the bench has only contributed one measly point so far. OSU shot just 38.7% from the floor, and 20% from 3-point range.

For Iowa, the efficiency and pace have been good, dwarfing what we’ve seen from the Buckeyes. The Hawkeyes have shot 51.6% from the floor and are on the verge of running Ohio State out of its own gym.

We always talk about being mentally tough, and we’re about to find out what kind of makeup psychologically OSU has in the second half, and frankly, beyond that in future games.

The games continue to be huge for the Ohio State basketball squad in the deep, talented Big Ten. Michigan is looking to run away and hide when it comes to the regular-season conference title, but there’s still a lot on the line. The Buckeyes are trying to hold onto a No. 1 seed in the upcoming NCAA Tournament, and need to grab some momentum as the postseason nears after losing two straight games.

Iowa is the team just behind the Buckeyes in the standings, and a win would allow Iowa to leapfrog OSU into the third spot in the league. It’s a huge matchup between two big-men when you consider what will happen in and around the post between Luka Garza and E.J. Liddell. There’s sure to be a lot of points scored between two highly efficient offenses.

Let’s dive into all this game has to offer, and end it off with a prediction.

Next … The Ohio State game plan

Ohio State basketball slight favorite over Iowa Sunday according to BetMGM

According to BetMGM, Ohio State is a slight favorite over Iowa on the basketball court Sunday in another key Big Ten matchup.

Ohio State and Iowa are set to matchup Sunday in a very key Big Ten matchup. Michigan might be running away when it comes to the regular-season conference title, but there’s still some jockeying available for the upcoming Big Ten and NCAA tournaments.

The Buckeyes are trying to hang on to a No. 1 seed, and Iowa is trying to move up as a very high seed as well. It should be a close game, and a matchup that both teams need to get momentum and get back on the winning track.

Early on in the year, most odds would have had Iowa as a prohibitive favorite in this one, but here as we sit on game day, the Buckeyes are favored by 3.5 points according to BetMGM.

It’s a narrow line, and one that you’d expect would play out as another close game in the super deep and super talented Big Ten conference.

Ohio State forward Kyle Young game time decision vs. Iowa

According to insider Jon Rothstein, Ohio State forward Kyle Young will be a game-time decision for the basketball game against Iowa.

Ohio State has another huge matchup on deck when it hosts the top ten Iowa Hawkeyes Sunday. The Buckeyes have lost two straight games and its status as a No. 1 seed is fleeting. There’s still the opportunity there with games against Iowa and Illinois, and then the Big Ten tournament, but OSU needs to get back on the winning track.

One of the reasons OSU lost to Michigan State Thursday had to do with forward Kyle Young being out because of concussion protocol. What he means for this team doesn’t always show up in the box score, but there was a noticeable difference in how disjointed Ohio State looked in East Lansing.

Inquiring minds of Buckeye fans then want to know if Young will be back for the game against the Hawkeyes, and it appears as though there is at least a chance. According to Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports, head coach Chris Holtmann has informed him that Young is a game-time decision.

It must be noted that Iowa will be without key bench player Jack Nunge due to a season-ending knee injury as well.  Here’s to hoping that Young can go, and if not, that OSU can find a way to get the job done at home.

Ohio State basketball vs. Iowa: How to watch and listen to the game Sunday

Ohio State hosts the Hawkeyes trying to reclaim its winning ways as the regular season winds down. Here’s how to find the game.

After dropping two games in a row, the Ohio State basketball team finds itself in a precarious predicament. The Buckeyes have been hanging on to a No. 4 ranking and expected No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament, but that is nowhere near being a sure thing at this point.

OSU played well enough to win both of its losses to Michigan and Michigan State but ultimately couldn’t close out either game allowing both opponents to take leads late in the game. I’ll give a pass against the No. 3 Wolverines, but against unraked Sparty, there was a lack of defensive focus and poor offensive positions in the final minutes.

The road certainly doesn’t get any easier as Ohio State plays host to No. 9 Iowa in a rematch from earlier in the month. The Bucks took care of the Hawkeyes in Iowa City with some sharp shooting and a well-executed game plan against center, Luka Garza.

With only two games left before the Big Ten tournament, this one seems like a game OSU needs to win to get momentum on its side again.

Three takeaways from Ohio State basketball’s win over Michigan State

Ohio State traveled to Iowa City and found a way to beat another top opponent on the road. Here are three takeaways from the win.

The Ohio State basketball team met yet another significant challenge on Thursday night by disposing of a top ten Iowa ballclub at its place by the score of 89-85. It was one in which the Buckeyes got out to a lead early, but had to battle back from eleven down in the second half. It was OSU’s fourth win over a top fifteen opponent on the road, in a conference that’s hard enough to win night in and night out.

No matter how you look at this one, it was an entertaining, fast-paced, and high scoring affair with both teams playing at a very high level. It could have gone either way, but Ohio State found a way to make plays at the end of the game to come out with a victory that moves its record to 15-4 overall, and 9-4 in the Big Ten — in a virtual tie with Illinois for second place. Yes, you read that correctly.

There was plenty to take from this game, so let’s get to it. Here are three observations and things we think we learned about the impressive win in Iowa City by Ohio State.
