How to watch, stream, listen to Ohio State vs. Akron

Everything you need to know to listen and watch Ohio State football take on the Akron Zips this Saturday.

Welcome to Week 4 of college football. Ohio State was able to get back on the winning track last week against the Tulsa Golden Hurricane. To say the performance was lackluster, with the exception of a few, would be an understatement. But a win’s a win, right? Not so much for Buckeye Nation.

The standard for Ohio State football is a high one. Fans have become spoiled with the level of play over the past 20 years. We’re just not used to seeing this level of incompetency from our Buckeyes.

Now Akron comes to town for a showdown under the lights. The Zips are not good folks and the oddsmakers know it favoring the Bucks by almost 50 even with Ohio State’s inconsistent play. But maybe Akron is just what this team needs to build its confidence as they prepare for a much improved Big Ten slate.

Five bold predictions for Ohio State against Akron

After some pretty big news, we had to change up our five bold predictions for the Akron game.

Gameday is almost nigh once again. We’re just two days away from Ohio State taking on in-state foe Akron, and some rather significant news dropped on Thursday has this little tune-up game looking a little more interesting.

That’s because OSU head coach Ryan Day let the world know that starting freshman quarterback C.J. Stroud will be given the game off to rest an ailing shoulder. That means either Kyle McCord or Jack Miller will get the nod against the Zips, and if they put up some big numbers, well … we won’t go there just yet.

Anyway, that’s clearly one of the main stories everyone will now be watching in this one, but we’re going to do you even better and put ourselves out there with five bold predictions for the game. These aren’t just your standard, run-of-the-mill, easily attainable ones, but one’s that will be a bit of a stretch because it’s just more fun that way.

Here are five bold predictions for Ohio State vs. Akron on Saturday.

Five reasons Ohio State beats Akron big on Saturday

The top five reasons why Ohio State is going to roll Akron. #GoBucks

The Ohio State Buckeyes won last week and are now sitting at 2-1. The Buckeyes struggled against a very unimpressive Tulsa Golden Hurricane team and won in a less than impressive 41-20 score by getting a couple of touchdowns late. This week should be different though. The game against the Zips should be little more than a tune-up this week against one of the worst teams in college football.

The Zips sit at 1-2 with their only victory being against an FCS school. Akron is actually the only Mid-American Conference school that has ever beaten Ohio State, but that victory was in 1894, that’s right 127 years ago. The Buckeyes are actually 34-1 against MAC schools overall.

The last time these two schools met was in 2011 and Ohio State shut Akron out 42-0. The Buckeyes lead the series with the Zips 7-1.

Ohio State heavy, heavy favorite over Akron according to Tipico

Look at the astronomical line Ohio State is favored by this weekend. Cover or no?

The Ohio State football squad will try to continue to improve when it hosts in-state foe and MAC opponent Akron on Saturday. And if you’ve missed watching the Buckeyes play under the lights, you are in luck because that’s exactly what will be happening with this titanic struggle.

We say that tongue and cheek of course because the early line is out on the game and the Buckeyes are favored by a whopping 49.5 points over the Zips according to the sportsbook Tipico.

If you think that’s an astronomical line, you are not in the minority, especially with what we’ve seen from an Ohio State team that’s clearly still trying to figure some things out this year.

What’s even more interesting, is that we’ve seen other initial lines go even higher than that, so it looks like it is correcting somewhat. Either way though, OSU is expected to roll this weekend and we’ll keep an eye on where things go with movement on the Tipico line as we get closer to game day.

Ohio State vs. Akron football preview and prediction

Ohio State welcomes in state foe Akron for a game under the lights. #GoBucks

While many fans have already pushed the panic button on the season, and maybe rightfully so, this week should be another piece to the puzzle that is the 2021 version of Ohio State football.

And this team truly is a puzzle. If OSU wins and wins big, that’s a good sign, but not necessarily something to hang our proverbial hat on. However, if the Buckeyes struggle in any aspect with Akron, the problems may be bigger than any of us realized.

Akron ranks at No. 129 in the FPI (Football Power Index ranking). They’ve been blown out Auburn and Temple and have one win against FCS opponent Bryant.

The Buckeyes get the Zips in primetime under the lights at the ‘Shoe.
