The 2024 college football season is off and running and yet many are still looking back at 2023. Why? Because of the cloud of controversy left by the Michigan Wolverines and the sign stealing scandal that left a bad taste with most fans outside of Ann Arbor.

There have been many who have weighed in now that the official notice of allegations has been sent to Michigan. With many seeing what was suspected all along and the NCAA’s findings, fans, media, and yes even college coaches are weighing in.

On opening weekend, a different OSU coach decided to make a joke at the Wolverine’s expense. After an Oklahoma State win over South Dakota State, Mike Gundy was asked about the new helmet communications system making its debut this season… technology implemented thanks to the Michigan sign-stealing allegations. Gundy said “They won’t let me hear it” and then went on to take a jab at Connor Stallions and The Team Up North.

Michigan has 90 days to respond to the formal notice of allegations. While no one knows exactly how the NCAA will rule as far as punishment goes, it is clear that most of the college football world believes Jim Harbaugh and the Wolverines cheated their way to a national title in 2023.

WATCH: Jeremiah Smith catches Ohio State’s first touchdown of 2024

After a slow start, the Ohio State offense started putting some things together and is on the board. The first drive ended with a three-and-out and a drop that would’ve led to some big yards by freshman phenom Jeremiah Smith. Smith would be called for not being set on the very next play pushing the Buckeyes even further back which led to a punt.

On the next Ohio State drive, things started to click with Will Howard finding receivers for nice little chunks. Emeka Egbuka probably should’ve had the first touchdown but the officials said the ball moved and was not secured. We weren’t so sure about that call, but it wouldn’t matter in the long run as just a few plays later Smith would get the Buckeyes on the board with the first touchdown of the young season.

Give it a watch below. It’s bound to be the first of many for the former No. 1 overall prospect in the land.

Well, the season opener for Ohio State may not have gone the way Buckeye fans were expecting, but it was nonetheless a win and an exciting finish.

After leading by eight at the half, Ohio State let Akron claw its way back into the game. The Zips, who are expected to be in the upper tier of the MAC this year, took the lead with just six seconds left on a rare four-point play. Akron’s Ali Ali hit a three, drew the foul on E.J. Liddell, and finished the and one, to give the Zips a one-point lead.

After getting the ball to half court and calling another time-out to set up a play with a little over three seconds on the clock, freshman Malaki Branham found Zed Key for the lay-in as time was expiring. Check out the exciting finish below.

What a finish! Clearly, Ohio State has some work to do, but credit Chris Holtmann and his Buckeye squad for fighting to the end and finding a way to get the victory.

After months of waiting, and in the midst of a potential College Football Playoff run for the football team, the Ohio State basketball team is set to officially break the seal on the 2021-2022 season.

The Buckeyes welcome the Akron Zips to the Schott to kick the dust off and start forming an identity for this team. It has to be a little like Christmas morning for head coach Chris Holtmann as he tries to see what this team is all about in the bright lights for the first time.

It’s a team that has a lot of new parts and pieces that need to come together for this team to do some things those around the program think it can, so getting off to a hot start against an in-state foe would be ideal.

That was a little more like it. This time the Ohio State football team took care of business against an Akron team it should have with little drama involved (well sort of) 59-7. It wasn’t perfect, but it was good to see freshman quarterback Kyle McCord more or less get the job done, and the defense play much more aggressive and purposeful.

It wasn’t perfect though. There was a bizarre moment that we’ll get into later, and the defense still came out of the gate a little slow before figuring some things out.

As we do with every game, we provide you with five knee-jerk things we think we learned after soaking in all the action from the game, and we’re up to the task again.

Ohio State provides player availability, injury status report for Akron game

Ohio State just released what players will not be available for the Akron game. There are some surprises.

As they do every week just prior to game time, the fine folks with the Ohio State football team have issued the availability report for the game against Tulsa. We sometimes get surprised by what comes out, and that’s the case here.

Center Harry Miller is still out and has been available at all this year. It’s still unknown what the story is there, but clearly, something is going on. In addition to that, whether because of injury or other reasons, the unavailability of players is starting to pile up, most especially on the defensive line.

Tyreke Johnson, Taron Vincent, and many other key members of the line are unavailable Saturday. The Buckeyes do have defensive end Zach Harrison back, t\so that’s at least some positive news. Look for Jack Sawyer and J.T. Tuimoloau to get more reps one again off the edge.

Here we go with another weekend of Ohio State football. It’s another chance for us to see some improvement from a very, very young squad against a team that shouldn’t be in the same galaxy as the Buckeyes. But … as they say … that’s why they play the games.

To add intrigue into the mix, OSU is sitting starting quarterback C.J. Stroud to rest his shoulder, and that means we’ll see either Kyle McCord or Jack Miller spinning the ball around the field.

Akron vs. Ohio State Buckeyes Wire staff predictions

What do the experts expect from the #Buckeyes vs. Akron? Our staff throws out their predictions.

The Ohio State football team now sits at 2-1 after an unconvincing win over the Tulsa Golden Hurricane last Saturday. I know the scoreboard said the Buckeyes won 41-20, which sounds impressive, but anyone who watched the game was scared until the very end.

This week the Buckeyes will play the Akron Zips who sit at 1-2 and just came off their first victory over FCS competitor, Bryant. The Buckeyes are favored by more than seven touchdowns, but this game will still be extremely interesting to watch considering Kyle McCord or Jack Miller is likely going to get their first start while C.J. Stroud takes a game off to rest his shoulder.

We are onto our staff predictions for the Akron game. We all predicted a Buckeye victory last week, but we were all wrong predicting extreme blow-outs, but lets see what we have for Akron.

The Ohio State football team stays at home this Saturday as host to in-state foe Akron, still looking to improve in multiple areas. To be fair, it shouldn’t be much of a game this time, because the talent gap isn’t anywhere close between the Zips and Buckeyes, but that’s why they play the game. Remember, we also thought the contest between Tulsa and OSU would be a win going away.

Each week, we try to keep you in tune with what the opposing coach says about Ohio State leading into the game, and it’s no different here. Akron head coach Tom Arth met with the local media in Northeast Ohio earlier this week and previewed the challenge and opportunity ahead for his Zips.
