Ohio State five-star RB commit TreVeyon Henderson “working hard” on selling other recruits

Ohio State has lost a little momentum in recruiting as of late, but five-star RB commit TreVeyon Henderson is “working hard” to change that.

Ohio State had one heck of a March, April, and May in the world of big-time college football recruiting. All told, nine of the nineteen commitments for the 2021 class announced their verbal decisions during a three-month momentum building haul that has resulted in the nation’s top class for 2021 so far. Seven of those were either four or five-star recruits according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Since then though, it’s been a little quieter than what anyone expected. Some targets that Ohio State had a good shot at landing went elsewhere. What likely hurt the most were Five-star offensive lineman J.C. Latham committing to Alabama, and four-star tight end Hudson Wolfe choosing Tennessee.

But never fear. Five-star running back TreVeyon Henderson and other 2021 commitments are already apparently working hard on helping out with recruiting efforts on some other big names that have yet to make a decision. In fact, Henderson had a message for Buckeye fans.

Now, what we are to take from this is uncertain. Does it mean there’s a commitment coming up, or that there’s just a lot of energy and effort going in on others to try and sell the program?

We’re not sure, but sometimes the players already committed to a program can have a big impact on where kids that are on the fence land. There’s still some room in the 2021 class, and here’s to feeling pretty good about a good closing kick for Ohio State.

Four-star OSU OT target Garrett Dellinger commits to LSU

Four-star 2021 offensive tackle Garrett Dellinger chose LSU over Ohio State, Michigan, and Oregon Wednesday.

It wasn’t much of a surprise, but four-star 2021 offensive tackle Garrett Dellinger out of Clarkston, MI announced his commitment to LSU Wednesday.

Dellinger had originally included the Buckeyes in his final four schools that also included Michigan and Penn State, but in the end, it was the relationships he built at LSU that swayed the 6-foot, 5-inch, 280-pound lineman. According to the 247Sports Composite Rankings, Dellinger was ranked as the No. 12 offensive tackle, and 79th overall prospect in the entire class.

It wasn’t a target that Ohio State was pursuing as hard as some of the others, and the loss isn’t as nearly stinging as the J.C. Latham one last week, but it’s still another recruit choosing another school here as of late. At this point, OSU could use a little good news in the recruiting department as it’s now been since May 24th since we’ve gotten a Boom!

Still, OSU has the nation’s best class so far according to almost every single website and metric out there and these things seem to happen in bunches at times.

You can get a look at Dellinger’s commitment video by clicking on the below shared to his Twitter profile.

As always, we wish this kid well, just not if he ends up playing Ohio State.

ESPN updates its 2021 college football recruiting class rankings. What does it say about Ohio State?

ESPN has updated its 2021 college football recruiting rankings and Ohio State continues to set the bar. Here’s what it all looks like.

[jwplayer Mh2TasU1]

If you follow our site, you know we are heavy on coverage of recruiting rankings using 247Sports. But that’s obviously not the only recruiting service out there. A few of the others include Rivals, Bleacher Report, and ESPN.

It’s the last of those three that just updated its most recent team recruiting rankings (subscription required), and there’s not much of a change for Ohio State. It remains the No. 1 overall class for 2021 according to the worldwide leader in sports programming, and for good reason.

Things have slowed down considerably with the recruiting news for Ohio State, but boy did it have one whale of a two-month period in March and April to bring things to where they are today. The class currently has 16 four and five-star recruits according to the rankings.

Before we tell you what ESPN said about the class, it’s worth noting that the top ten behind the Buckeyes consist of Tennessee, Clemson, North Carolina, Florida, USC, Oregon, Michigan, Texas, and Miami.

Next … What ESPN says about Ohio State’s No. 1 ranked class

Ohio State DB target, 5-star Tony Grimes to make college choice June 30

Five-star DB Tony Grimes has announced a decision date for his college choice between Ohio State, North Carolina, Georgia, and Texas A&M.

The Ohio State football program has already put together one whale of a 2021 recruiting class, but there are still some big-time targets out there that have the Buckeyes in their sights. One of those is five-star defensive back Tony Grimes out of Princess Anne High School in Virginia Beach, VA.

Despite OSU not being considered a major, major player during his recruitment, the Buckeyes have made the cut as he’s progressed through the recruiting process and are now a part of the final four. New defensive coordinator Kerry Coombs has apparently made quite the impression, and now there’s at least a possibility that Ohio State lands what is considered the best DB prospect in the 2021 class.

And now we’ll know soon enough as Grimes has announced his intention to let his college choice be known on June 30. He has a final four of the Buckeyes, North Carolina, Texas A&M, and Georgia.

The prevailing thought right now is that the Tar Heels have the inside track for his services, but with Ohio State simply hanging in there and beating all the odds up until now, and with Grimes showing OSU some love on Twitter recently, there’s a chance.

The Buckeyes currently sit pretty good when it comes to the future of the program at defensive back, but Grimes is a talent they would clearly make room for if he decided to commit.

We’ll just have to keep an eye on it. The Buckeyes don’t necessarily need this one, but if he falls in their lap and shocks us all, then so be it.

Four-star 2021 corner Jaylin Davies picks Oregon

Though it was expected, four-star 2021 cornerback Jaylin Davies announced his verbal commitment to the Oregon Ducks Saturday.

It was expected — especially over the last few weeks — but four-star cornerback Jaylin Davies out of Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, CA announced his verbal commitment to the Oregon Ducks Saturday.

Ohio State had been in the final four for his services in mid-May, but the writing was on the wall when the Buckeyes got a commitment from four-star Arizona product Denzel Burke. Once he committed on May 24, the Buckeye staff cooled off a little on the pursuit of Davies.

So, while many may take this news as the Ducks stealing one from Ohio State, that’s not really the case. The Buckeyes only have so much room in this class for defensive backs, and they are in more than fine shape in that department at the moment.

Still, Davies is a talent that could turn into something special up in Eugene. According to the 247Sports Composite Rankings, he is listed as the No. 12 corner and 129th overall recruit in the class.

We’ll continue to keep an eye on the prospects still out there as Ohio State continues to add to a 2021 class that has the potential to be the best in the country when it’s all said and done.

Ohio State QB commit Kyle McCord invited to Elite 11 Finals

Five-star Ohio State quarterback commit Kyle McCord will be participating in the exclusive Elite 11 Finals.

Ohio State has another blue-chip commit that will be competing in a select competition with his peers. Kyle McCord, a five-star prospect out of St. Joseph’s High School in Philadelphia, PA, announced his participation in the exclusive Elite 11 quarterback competition Finals on Twitter Friday.

According to the 247Sports Composite Rankings, McCord is ranked as the No. 3 Pro-style passer and 24th overall prospect in the class of 2021. His ratings have been on the rise ever since he committed to Ohio State back on April 30 of 2019. He was the second recruit to the class, following only five-star defensive end Jack Sawyer.

Here’s the announcement from McCord.

It’s been quite the run for Buckeye quarterback commits getting invited to the Elite 11 Finals. Not only did current Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields compete, but so too did Dwayne Haskins and Tate Martell. In addition to that, incoming freshmen from the 2020 class, C.J. Stroud and Jack Miller were also a part of all the fun.

Ohio State WR commit Jayden Ballard makes huge jump in latest 247Sports rankings

Ohio State football commitment Jayden Ballard made a huge jump inside the top 50 in the latest 247Sports recruiting rankings.

Ohio State football’s 2021 recruiting class continues to get better even without receiving a commitment as of late. After a flurry of big-time news on the recruiting front in March and April, things have calmed down just a little.

Even so, one of Ohio State’s wide receiver commitments for the 2021 class just got a huge boost in the 247Sports recruiting rankings and is now a top 50 overall prospect. At 6-foot, 2-inches, and 172-pounds, the Buckeyes did their homework on the elite pass-catcher Jayden Ballard out of Massillon Washington, and the rest of the world is starting to get on board.

Ballard is now ranked as the No. 2 player in Ohio, the No. 5 receiver in the class, and the No. 49 overall prospect according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. That’s a huge jump from previous when Ballard was No. 108 in the 247Sports rankings.

With such a huge bump, that now makes a total of seven 2021 commits in the top 50 for Ohio State’s class. And there could be another one on the way if the top-rated receiver for 2021, Emeka Egbuka, comes on board as expected.

The rich just keep getting richer, especially at the wide receiver position in Columbus.

Ohio State 2021 tight end target Hudson Wolfe commits to Tennessee

Four-star 2021 tight end Hudson Wolfe chose Tennessee over Ohio State and others on Monday.

Ohio State has lost two of its main priority targets in the last four days. First, it was five-star offensive lineman J.C. Latham committing to Alabama, followed by Monday’s news that four-star tight end Hudson Wolfe has given his verbal pledge to Tennessee.

Wolfe made the announcement live on Rivals and continued the hot recruiting for head coach and Jeremy Pruitt and the Volunteers. It gives Tennessee the class of 2021’s No. 9 tight end overall according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

He chose UT over Ohio State, Georgia, Alabama, and Ole Miss.

What might be more concerning is the fact that the recruiting momentum Ryan Day and staff had through the months of March and April has cooled off a bit. It’s still one whale of a class no matter what happens, but it would be nice to get some positive vibes going again.

At this point, despite looking like a real possibility of signing the best recruiting class in the modern era, it would be stretch now. It’s not out of the question, but there’s a lot that will have to go right from here through the remainder of the cycle for that to occur.

Ohio Sate target and Four-star OT from Michigan sets decision date

Ohio State football target, 4-star offensive tackle Garrett Dellinger set a decision date of June 24. He has the Buckeyes in his final four.

After a flurry of commits and close-calls, the Ohio State recruiting momentum has slowed just a wee-bit. However, the Buckeyes still sit as the  leader in the clubhouse when it comes to the best class in all of college football for the 2021 class.

OSU just missed out on five-star offensive lineman J.C. Latham when he announced his decision to attend Alabama earlier this week, but there’s still some pretty big fish out there.

One of those is four-star offensive tackle Garrett Dellinger from Clarkston, Michigan. At 6-foot, five-inches, and 280-pounds, Dellinger is rated as the No. 12 overall OT and 76th overall recruit in the class according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

And … he has Ohio State in his final four according to a video announcement he dropped on his Twitter profile.

Also included among the finalists for his services are LSU, Michigan, and Penn State, and right now, it looks like LSU might be the leader, but we all know how that can change in the high-stakes, ever-evolving recruiting landscape.

We won’t have to wait long to see what Dellinger decides either. In the same video, he dropped a decision date of June 24. So, set your alarms and reminders. We’ll have it for you when it goes down.

Ohio State misses out on 5-star 2021 offensive lineman to Alabama

One of the class of 2021’s best offensive lineman, 5-star J.C. Latham out of IMG Academy, has committed to Alabama over Ohio State.

For the longest time, many thought that one of the best offensive linemen in the class of 2021 was pegged to end up as an Ohio State commitment. The decision for J.C. Latham always seemed to be between Ohio State and LSU, but at the eleventh hour, Alabama began to gain traction.

In the end, it was the Tide that won out. The 6-foot, six-inch, 305-pounder out of IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida announced his verbal commitment to Alabama Friday.

The writing seemed to be on the wall for the Buckeyes as communication had frayed as of late, and many recruiting services began to change their predictions over to Alabama from Ohio State.

OSU still has one whale of a recruiting class for 2021, but the staff would have loved to lock down the class’ No. 5 offensive tackle, and 17th overall prospect according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

There’s still a few big fish out there for the 2021 class, and we’ll continue to keep an eye on where things stand as news becomes available.
