Boom! Ohio State gets commitment from 4-star DE Tunmise Adeleye

Ohio State landed one of the best defensive ends in the 2021 recruiting cycle with the verbal commitment of 4-star Tunmise Adeleye.

The sonic booms just keep rolling in for the Ohio State football program. The latest is the commitment from 2021 four-star defensive end Tunmise Adeleye out of IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida.

According to 247Sports, Adeleye is the No. 41 overall recruit in the country and a top-five strong-side defensive end. He picked Ohio State over schools like Oklahoma, Texas, and Alabama. At 6-foot, 3-inches, and 240 pounds, there’s no doubt there’s still room for him to fill out his frame a bit when he gets to Columbus.

With the news, Ohio State now has a whopping sixteen commits to the 2021 class, one that is head and shoulders above any other program to date.

It’s hard to believe the roll the OSU program has been on when it comes to landing big-time prospects during the COVID-19 pandemic, but the numbers don’t lie.

And there’s still more big fish out there that could continue to separate what’s building for this recruiting cycle.

Ohio State commit and second-best overall ILB Reid Carrico invited to All-American Bowl

Four-star Ohio State football commit Reid Carrico has been invited to the All-American Bowl, another feat for the young inside linebacker.

Four-star Ohio State football commit Reid Carrico has been invited to the All-American Bowl, another feat for the young inside linebacker. Carrico is ranked as the second-best ILB in the Class of 2021 according to 247Sports.

From Ironton, Ohio, Carrico accepted his offer to Ohio State over those of other top-tier programs like Alabama and Clemson.

That said, Carrico, who announced his commitment back in September after attending Ohio State’s spring game in 2019, is the second-best recruit from the state and rated as the 74th overall recruit in the class.

He’s destined to bring a hard-hitting force in the middle of the field, but with another year in high school left, Carrico is bound to continue to rack in the accomplishments.

His latest was being invited to play in the prestigious bowl, a development he announced on Twitter yesterday.

Carrico won’t be there alone though, as a few other Ohio State commits will be playing the star-studded game as well.

“The 2021 All-American Bowl is scheduled for Jan. 9 at 1:00 pm ET, to be nationally televised on NBC. Ohio State commitments who have accepted the invitation to play in the game so far are quarterback Kyle McCord and offensive lineman Donovan Jackson,” 247 Sports’ Bill Kurelic wrote.

With Carrico improving and others noticing, Ohio State’s Class of 2021, one that boasts ten four-star recruits and three five-stars, is looking more and more like it could finish at the nation’s best.

Top cornerback in 2021 class includes Ohio State in top eight

Tony Grimes, the top corner in the 2021 class released his top eight schools Wednesday and Ohio State is included.

We continue to keep an eye on Ohio State football recruiting during these trying times. After all, the Buckeyes have landed some big, big fish during the last month or so, and continue to be in on some of the top prospects still out there for 2021. Heck, they’ve even gotten a jump on moving things along for the 2022 class.

One prospect that OSU has been extremely active with in the past, but that seems to have cooled off a bit is five-star defensive back Tony Grimes out of Princess Anne High School in Virginia Beach, Virginia. If you’ve followed Buckeye football recruiting at all, you know at this point that everyone wants in on this kid.  According to 247Sports, the 6-foot, 180 pounder is the No. 1 rated cornerback and No. 7 overall recruit in the entire class.

It’s been an up and down type of recruitment when it comes to the relationship between Grimes and Ohio State, and there seems to be a lean towards the southern schools for him at the moment, but he did include Ohio State in an announcement of his top eight schools Wednesday.

The other schools included are Clemson, Virginia, Texas A&M, Penn State, North Carolina, Georgia, and Tennessee.

The Buckeyes have filled some needs as of late on the back-end with recruiting, but you can bet they’d take Grimes if he continues to listen. With so many top-end schools in the mix, and with the on-again, off-again relationship that seems to be in play here, we’ll have to keep an eye on where this all heads.

But hey, Ohio State seems to still be right there at the moment.

Ohio State football offers nation’s top 2022 recruit

Ohio State has gotten in on the recruiting game of the country’s top 2022 recruit, defensive end Sherman Stewart.

The Ohio State football program has pushed its chips into the middle of the recruiting table with the country’s top recruit in the 2022 cycle. After already putting together one whale of a 2021 class — one that far outpaces every other school at this point — the Buckeyes now appear to be getting a jump on the next class as well.

Sherman Stewart is a six-foot, five-inch, 236-pound defensive end out of Opa Locka, Florida and is ranked as the top defensive end and overall recruit in the entire 2022 class according to 247Sports. He currently has offers from all of the Florida schools as well as the likes of LSU, Penn State, Georgia, Michigan, and Notre Dame. There will be more.

It’s still early on in the recruitment here, and as news becomes available, we’ll continue to follow it.

Ohio State included in four-star defensive tackles’ top six

Ohio State is one of six schools 2021 four-star defensive end Marcus Bradley says are his top choices.

Ohio State appears to be in the running for another talented four-star talent for the already stellar 2021 class. Four-star defensive tackle Marcus Bradley announced his top six schools Sunday and included the Buckeyes as one of them.

At six-foot, three-inches and 270 pounds, Bradley has offers from several major schools and is listed as the No. 11 defensive tackle in the country and a top 200 recruit overall according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. He is out of Quince Orchard High School in Gaithersburg, Maryland.

The other teams that made the cut for Bradley’s services include Tennessee, Texas A&M, LSU, USC, and Maryland. Many believe the Terps have the leg up as the home school, but that remains to be seen. According to Eleven Warriors, Bradleys’ father has reportedly fallen in love with Larry Johnson and the “Buckeye Brotherhood,” so that bears watching.

We’re probably still a ways off from any decision being made here, but we’ll continue to watch as Bradley goes through the process.

Ohio State football with two commits appearing in ESPN’s top 25 high school prospects regardless of class

ESPN produced a list of the top 25 high school prospects regardless of class. Ohio State has two commits appearing.

By now you know that the Ohio State football program is putting together one whale of a 2021 recruiting class. It is far and away the top class right now. There’s still a ton of time to go before anybody can seal the mythical crown of being the best, but it’s still impressive.

And while there are some elite four and five-star prospects compared to other schools, there are a couple that stand out as two of the best regardless of graduation date.

ESPN took a look at all recruits coming through the pipeline and identified the top 25 (subscription required) among all classes. Within that group of studs, the worldwide leader in sports programming named two Ohio State commits, both from the 2021 class.

It lists defensive end Jack Sawyer as the No. 2 overall prospect in the top 25, and recent verbal commit TreVeyon Henderson as the eighteenth best recruit out there right now.

Here’s what ESPN says about both.

2. DE Jack Sawyer
Pickerington North High School (Ohio)
Class of 2021

The No.1-ranked player in the ESPN Junior 300 has an ideal frame, along with elite quickness and change of direction to develop as an elite college edge rusher. He plays quarterback and defensive end for his high school team, showing his rare versatility and intangibles. He’s also a standout basketball player. The Ohio State verbal recorded 13.5 sacks in 2019 despite constant double teams.
Player comparison: Chase Young, Ohio State

18. RB TreVeyon Henderson
Hopewell High School (Virginia)
Class of 2021

Arguably the best, most productive football player in the country regardless of classification, the 6-foot 190-pounder rushed for over 2,400 yards, caught over 250 yards receiving, recorded 48 tackles and picked off three passes as a junior. Henderson, who recently committed to Ohio State, doubles as a talented sprinter on the track.
Player comparison: Chuba Hubbard, Oklahoma State

With recent recruiting wins, Ohio State football running away with No. 1 rated class potentially

With the most recent recruiting wins, Ohio State football is putting a sizable lead between it and everyone else for the No. 1 2021 class.

The flurry of recruiting wins over the last couple of weeks at Ohio State has been dizzying — even while the COVID-19 pandemic has taken hold on life as we know it. The NCAA has mandated a dead period in recruiting, but that hasn’t stopped the Buckeye staff from landing several high profile prospects since mid-March.

Guys like TreVeyon Henderson, Evan Pryor, and Jakailin Johnson have added to a class that was already looking very promising.

And while Ohio State and Clemson were neck and neck for the top stop in the 247Sports Composite Team Rankings, that’s no longer the case. Instead, the Buckeyes have opened up a sizable lead on the field and distanced itself from Clemson and everyone else.

OSU now has fifteen total commitments for the 2021 class, a number that is likely close to two-thirds of what will eventually be signed. The average recruit has a rating of 95.34, which is second only to Clemson’s 95.59, though it’ll be tough for the Tigers to continue to pull in kids to keep the rating that high.

Ohio State is seemingly always in the top five of recruiting classes on a yearly basis, but with the momentum it’s got going right now, and with several other four and five-star athletes looking at the Buckeyes, there’s a legitimate shot that they finish No. 1 for the 2021 class.

And they said the program would slide with recruiting under Ryan Day. Think again.

Three impacts of Ohio State landing five-star RB TreVeyon Henderson

Ohio State got a huge commitment from 5-star RB TreVeyon Henderson this past week. Here are three impacts of such a big pledge.

Despite the recruiting dead period imposed by the NCAA because of the COVID-19 crisis, Ohio State has been on fire lately with landing prospects for the 20201 class. The lastest pledge is a huge one from the nation’s top-rated running back according to 247Sports’ recruiting (not the composite). Getting TreVeyon Henderson to leave Virginia to play in Columbus is a big one, and there are ramifications to discuss (frankly, all good).

So, we’re taking a high-level view to discuss what this commitment means for the Ohio State football team, fans, and coaches. Here are three impacts of Ryan Day and staff landing one of the best talents in the 2021 class last week.

NEXT … Depth going forward

Ohio Sate football with five of the top ten recruiters on staff currently

Ohio State is on fire with recruiting. So much so that 247Sports ranks five assistants in the top ten of recruiters in the country.

The Ohio State football staff has been on fire as of late. Despite the dead period imposed by the NCAA because of the COVID-19 measures to curtail the spread of the coronavirus, the Buckeyes have still landed five high-profile recruits over the last couple of weeks.

And now, for all of the recruiting efforts of the assistant coaches, 247Sports has ranked five coaches in the top ten of the best recruiters in the country for the 2021 class. Yes, five of the top ten. Ohio State is just one program and has half the spots dedicated to the best recruiters in the country.

So who are they? The top recruiter according to 247Sports is running backs coach Tony Alford. He convinced Trey Sermon to transfer to Ohio State, but also landed two top-five running backs in the 2021 class with Evan Pryor and TreVeyon Henderson. Behind him are wide-receivers coach Brian Hartline at No. 2, Kerry Coombs at No. 4, Al Washington at No. 5, and Larry Johnson at No. 8.

I don’t know if I can explain how ridiculous this is, but what’s going on in Columbus right now with recruiting is simply unbelievable, and there’s even more likely to come.

Ryan Day has priceless Twitter reaction to TreVeyon Henderson commitment

Ryan Day was clearly a happy coach after the commitment of five-star running back TreVeyon Henderson. See his priceless reaction on Twitter.

There’s no doubt that Ryan Day is a happy man tonight. In fact, he’s been a pretty joyous head football coach for the past week and a half or so. The coronavirus may be gripping the world right now, but that hasn’t stopped the recruits from flocking to Ohio State during that time. In fact, five players have pledged their services to the Buckeyes since March 15.

The latest of those is arguably the biggest yet, with the announcement of five-star running back TreVeyon Henderson out of Hopewell, Virginia. He’s the top back in the class according to 247Sports’ own rankings, and should come in and compete right away. Simply put, every coach in the country wanted him, but Ohio State’s the team that landed the potential program-changing prospect.

Head coaches are prohibited from commenting on prospects that have yet to sign a national letter of intent, but that doesn’t mean they can’t react to big-time news. In fact, Ohio State is famously known for tossing out a Boom! when someone commits to the program.

Day did just that sort of thing in a more animated fashion with the news of Henderson coming down tonight. Have a look at the Tweet he sent when the news broke Friday night.

Eat your heart out Jim Harbaugh and Michigan. This is how recruiting is won and why there’s such a gap between the Wolverines and Buckeyes right now. Ohio State is simply on fire shopping for the groceries.
