It appears that Kansas City Chiefs RB Isiah Pacheco finished his rookie season a little more banged up than previously realized.

Pacheco recently spoke with USA TODAY’s Mackenzie Salmon, providing insight on his first NFL offseason and avoiding complacency after winning the Super Bowl. During his response, Pacheco revealed he didn’t get to enjoy the winning and partying afterward because he had surgery and was focused on recovery.

“You kind of get comfortable with being the champion, sitting around those few months of getting the knowledge of being a champion, partying and all that,” Pacheco said in the interview with USA TODAY.

“For me, as a rookie, I didn’t get to party as much during this time where we were able to be champions. I had to take care of my health and that doing the little things like surgery and stuff like that – therapy, to help me able to become stronger than I was this year for this upcoming season.”

Of course, there was no follow-up question digging into what the surgery was for. We know that Pacheco landed on the final injury report ahead of Super Bowl LVII with a wrist injury. In the fourth quarter, Pacheco took a big shot from former Eagles S C.J. Gardner-Johnson and was down for a bit after the play. He had two more carries after that, including a 10-yard run that would help ice the game for Kansas City.

It’s certainly not uncommon for NFL players to play through injuries and get them cleaned up during the offseason. From the sounds of it, this might have been a lingering ailment, but we likely won’t know more about it until Andy Reid provides updates on the injury situation when OTA workouts begin later this month.

Update: Pacheco apparently was wearing a cast on his left wrist in his recent NFL draft promo video.

Seahawks safety Jamal Adams to undergo offseason surgery

Seattle Seahawks safety Jamal Adams will undergo offseason surgery in the near future to address his torn labrum and broken fingers.

The 2020 NFL season came to a screeching halt for Seattle Seahawks safety Jamal Adams and his teammates Saturday afternoon, losing to the Los Angeles Rams 30-20 in the wild-card round.

For Adams, the chance to appear in a playoff game meant so much for the first-timer, yet was over so quickly. He’s now looking ahead to what needs to happen over the offseason, most importantly, tending to his injured shoulders and broken fingers. Adams will likely underdo a surgery or two in the near future to address the issues.

“I’ve got to take care of these fingers for sure, and the shoulder,” Adams said after the loss. “It’s part of the game. I’m not sitting here making excuses for anything, it’s part of the game, and like I said early in the week, there was no doubt in my mind that I wasn’t going to go out there and attempt to play.

“I did what I could, I wish I could have done more to help the team win, but obviously things didn’t roll our way.”

Adams certainly isn’t making excuses, but he was a bit hindered by his shoulder in Saturday’s matchup, wearing a brace of sorts to stabilize the injury, which turned out to be a torn labrum.

“Yes, I did have a harness on that restricted me from going up or going across, but that’s not an excuse,” Adams explained. “I’ve got to make the play. I mean, it was a hell of a grab, stuff like that happens, but you know obviously the ball just didn’t roll our way on that one.”

Pete Carroll confirms there is no damage to rookie DE Darrell Taylor’s knee

Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll confirms there is no damage to rookie defensive end Darrell Taylor’s knee after offseason surgery.

Seattle Seahawks defensive end Darrell Taylor wasn’t able to practice with his teammates when they all took the field together for the first time on Wednesday. Taylor was placed on the non-football injury list on Aug. 3.

Taylor, who suffered a leg injury his senior year at Tennessee, underwent surgery this offseason and is still in recovery. Thankfully, there is no damage to his knee.

“He wasn’t ready to go,” coach Pete Carroll told reporters after practice. “There’s no damage to his knee, he’s just got to get back from the work he has been doing. I’m not sure how long it’s going to take. He has done some treatments and things that take a week or so to take hold and all of that, he got good response from that so far.”

With all preseason games canceled this summer, Taylor can take some extra time to ease back into practice. Carroll believes he could be participating near the end of the month.

“I’m hoping that in another couple of weeks we’ll know he’s ready to get back in it and go,” Carroll explained. “They’re working with him right now – he’s dying to get back and all – but it’s just not quite right. So we’ve just got to take our time and make sure that once he gets back, he’s back for good.”

The Seahawks practice Thursday and Friday before breaking on Saturday.
