Watch: Warriors release footage from offseason minicamp live scrimmage at Chase Center

Watch highlights from the Golden State Warriors full 5-on-5 love scrimmage from inside Chase Center at their voluntary offseason minicamp.

For the first time since March 10, the Golden State Warriors laced up for live-action inside Chase Center. However, it was a little different than a typical game day.

During their extended offseason, members of the Warriors traveled to San Francisco for a voluntary minicamp inside Golden State’s Bay Area “Dubble.” A live scrimmage at Chase Center served as the headliner of the Warriors’ camp in the Bay Area.

Players were split into The Blue and The White teams inside their home court. All players involved in the scrimmage suited up in game uniforms with social justice messages on the back of their jerseys, matching the NBA’s Orlando Bubble uniforms.

Eric Paschall and Klay Thompson were held out of the live scrimmages due to conditioning reasons. With key starters on the sidelines, Jordan Poole, Kevon Looney, Ky Bowman, Alen Smailagic and Damion Lee were featured in the scrimmage.

On Saturday, the Golden State Warriors Twitter account shared footage from the scrimmage inside The Dubble. Golden State team broadcaster Bob Fitzgerald was joined by Santa Cruz’s Kevin Danna for the scrimmage’s play-by-play call.

Ryan Taylor leads Warriors in scoring during offseason minicamp scrimmage at Chase Center

For the first time since March, the Golden State Warriors suited up for live-action at the Chase Center during their offseason minicamp.

For the first time since March, the Golden State Warriors saw action inside San Francisco’s Chase Center. During their voluntary offseason minicamp, the Warriors competed against each other in a live 5-on-5 scrimmage.

The Warriors broke off into “Blue” and “White” teams for the match. To make the scrimmage “as game-like as possible,” the Warriors donned their official home and away uniforms.

Both Klay Thompson and Eric Paschall were held out of the scrimmage due to conditioning issues. Thompson has yet to suit up for a full 5-on-5 scrimmage since returning to practice after a 15-month layoff.

After recovering from his knee injury, Steve Kerr said the Warriors are “taking it really slow” with Thompson. The five-time All-Star shooter has been limited to “controlled scrimmages” at Golden State’s offseason minicamp.

Following Golden State’s scrimmage at Chase Center, Kerr said the Warriors wouldn’t have any more “formal scrimmages” at minicamp. However, the team will have the chance to play “old school” 5-on-5 pickup at minicamp.

Kerr via Warriors SoundCloud:

There won’t be any more scrimmages. There will be 5-on-5, meaning there won’t be anything formal. We will probably have a couple of days where it’s just open gym — come in and play. Choose up sides; coaches stay out of the way, just play 5-on-5 — just old school.

The Warriors will continue minicamp inside the San Francisco “Dubble” until Oct. 6.

Klay Thompson makes return to Warriors practice for first time since suffering knee injury

For the first time since suffering a knee injury in the 2019 NBA Finals, Klay Thompson made his return to the court at Warriors practice.

For the first time in 15 months, Klay Thompson is back on the court at practice for the Golden State Warriors. The five-time All-Star shooting guard was kept out of the entire 2019-20 season with a torn ACL he suffered in the 2019 NBA Finals.

Thompson was absent from the first practice at Golden State’s voluntary offseason minicamp as he finished the NBA’s testing protocol. On Friday, the sharpshooting wing made his long-awaited return to Golden State’s training ground.

Over Golden State’s extended offseason, Thompson has been working out in Southern California. Prior to the start of offseason minicamp, Thompson was training at Chase Center with Golden State’s assistant coach Chris DeMarco. Friday served as his first chance to join the court with his Warriors teammates.

The Golden State Warriors Twitter account shared a photo of Thompson getting some shots up inside “The Dubble.”

In a conference call with Bay Area media, Steve Kerr called Thompson’s return “a sight for sore eyes.” The Golden State Warriors coach said day one was “a good first step” for Thompson.

Via Warriors Sound Cloud:

Number one, it was great to see him — a sight for sore eyes… It’s been a long time coming.

It was great to have him out on the floor, in the locker room. Just his presence alone gave us a jolt of energy and excitement. And then, practice went well. This is the first practice coming off an ACL injury and a year and a half absence, so I didn’t expect him to be in top shape, in top form — and he was not, but he moved well, and it’s a good first step.

Despite Thompson’s appearance at practice, he will have to wait for a reunion with Stephen Curry and Draymond Green. Thompson’s fellow Splash Brother and Green are listed as doubtful for Golden State’s voluntary minicamp due to family reasons.

Thompson and his teammates will continue working out at San Francisco’s Chase Center until Oct. 6.

Warriors without Klay Thompson and Eric Paschall at first offseason minicamp practice

As they finish the league’s coronavirus testing protocol, the Warriors were without Klay Thompson and Eric Paschall to start their voluntary offseason minicamp.

For the first time since the season went on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic, members of the Golden State Warriors suited up for practice at Chase Center. On Wednesday, the Warriors opened their first practice for their voluntary offseason minicamp in San Francisco.

Although the Warriors layoff from Chase Center is over, the team was without four of their core players for day one. While it was expected Stephen Curry and Draymond Green wouldn’t be available for camp, two other players missed the first practice in “The Dubble.”

According to Steve Kerr, both Klay Thompson and Eric Paschall are still going through the NBA’s coronavirus testing protocols. In a post-practice interview with members of the media, the Golden State Warriors coach said he expects Thompson and Paschall to join camp later in the week.

Klay [Thompson] and Eric Paschall are still going through the league testing protocols, so those two we’re not here today. We expect them here later in the week. Draymond [Green] and Steph [Curry] were not here. We did not expect them to come. Everybody else was here, so I think that meant 14 players.

After missing all of the 2019-20 campaign due to the knee injury he suffered in the 2019 NBA Finals, the offseason minicamp will serve as Thompson’s official return to Golden State’s practice floor.

Despite missing the first practice, Thompson was busy getting work in at Chase Center before the Warriors minicamp was underway. The sharpshooting wing shared a photo from inside the Warriors home arena prior to the start of camp. According to Kerr, Thompson has been “looking great” while working out at the facility before camp.

Yeah, he’s doing well. He worked out here at the facility for several days in a row, maybe four or five days in a row with Chris DeMarco and Chris gave me really positive updates. I was here for a couple of those days and got a chance to see him, and Klay looks great, and he says he’s anxious to play, so we’re excited about that.

Thompson’s appearance at minicamp will be the first opportunity he’ll have to join the likes of Paschall, Andrew Wiggins and Marquese Chriss on the court together. The Dubble will be the chance for Thompson to get familiar with some of his new teammates before the Warriors break for a crucial offseason filled with question marks.

Warriors add five G League non-roster players to roster for offseason voluntary minicamp

Five members from Golden State’s G League affiliate in Santa Cruz will join the Warriors at Chase Center for a voluntary offseason minicamp.

For the first time since March, the Golden State Warriors will step on the court for practice. On Monday, the Warriors opened up a voluntary minicamp at Chase Center in the Bay Area.

Without an invitation to the NBA’s Orlando Bubble at Disney World, “The Dubble” will serve as the Warriors’ first form of team basketball activities since the season was put on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Before workouts begin, the team will go through coronavirus testing and a 48-hour quarantine window. Following their quarantine, the Warriors go through group workouts at Golden State’s San Francisco facility. During their stay in The Dubble, the Warriors will lodge in a campus environment.

After missing all of the 2019-20 campaign, Klay Thompson is expected to join the Warriors at minicamp. However, the Splash Brother could be missing his two of his All-Star teammates at Chase Center. Both Stephen Curry and Draymond Green are doubtful for the voluntary camp due to family reasons.

Along with Thompson and the rest of Golden State’s roster, five members of the Warriors G League affiliate in Santa Cruz will be available at minicamp. Before camp began, the Warriors added Roger Moute a Bidias, Zach Norvell Jr., Jeremy Pargo, Jonathon Simmons and Ryan Taylor as non-roster invites.

Via @GLeagueWarriors on Twitter:

Simmons will serve as the group veteran, playing in over 250 games in his NBA career. After stops in San Antonio, Orlando and Philadelphia, the Houston product signed with the Santa Cruz Warriors last season.

During Golden State’s 2019-20 run, Pargo and Norvell Jr. were called up for 10-day contracts. Both Pargo and Norvell suited up for three games in Golden State before their deals expired.

Alongside Thompson and Andre Wiggins, the Bay Area Bubble will give the G League players an opportunity to impress Steve Kerr and Bob Myers before the Warriors progress through their extended offseason.

Report: Steph Curry and Draymond Green ‘doubtful’ to participate in Warriors offseason minicamp

Both Steph Curry and Draymond Green are “doubtful” for the Golden State Warriors in-market offseason minicamp due to family reasons.

Although they’re not in the Orlando Bubble for the postseason, the Golden State Warriors will be back on the court soon. Starting next week, the Warriors will open up a mid-offseason minicamp.

On Monday, members of the Golden State Warriors will report to a team designated hotel in San Francisco for coronavirus testing and a 48-hour quarantine. Following the testing period, group workouts will take place at the Chase Center. The hotel and arena will serve as an in-market bubble for two weeks.

With the Warriors not included in the NBA’s Orlando Bubble plan, the minicamp will be the first time Steve Kerr’s squad will be on the floor together for organized basketball activities in six months. Yet, Golden State could be without a pair of All-Stars.

According to Wes Goldberg of the Bay Area News Group, both Stephen Curry and Draymond Green are “doubtful” for the Warriors minicamp due to “family reasons.”

Via @wcgoldberg on Twitter:

If Green and Curry can join Golden State’s camp after the start, both players are allowed to join the team anytime during the two-week camp after they clear coronavirus protocols, per Goldberg.

Although Curry and Green aren’t expected to be inside Golden State’s edition of the Bubble, Klay Thompson could rejoin his teammates for the first time since injuring his knee in the 2019 NBA Finals.

The Warriors offseason minicamp will allow Kerr and Bob Myers to see a healthy Thompson alongside Golden State’s 2019 arrivals Andrew Wiggins, Eric Paschall and Marquese Chriss.

With a bevy of questions surrounding the Warriors prior to their early entrance to the offseason, getting the players back on the court could provide some clarity after an extended layoff.
