Warriors add five G League non-roster players to roster for offseason voluntary minicamp

Five members from Golden State’s G League affiliate in Santa Cruz will join the Warriors at Chase Center for a voluntary offseason minicamp.

For the first time since March, the Golden State Warriors will step on the court for practice. On Monday, the Warriors opened up a voluntary minicamp at Chase Center in the Bay Area.

Without an invitation to the NBA’s Orlando Bubble at Disney World, “The Dubble” will serve as the Warriors’ first form of team basketball activities since the season was put on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Before workouts begin, the team will go through coronavirus testing and a 48-hour quarantine window. Following their quarantine, the Warriors go through group workouts at Golden State’s San Francisco facility. During their stay in The Dubble, the Warriors will lodge in a campus environment.

After missing all of the 2019-20 campaign, Klay Thompson is expected to join the Warriors at minicamp. However, the Splash Brother could be missing his two of his All-Star teammates at Chase Center. Both Stephen Curry and Draymond Green are doubtful for the voluntary camp due to family reasons.

Along with Thompson and the rest of Golden State’s roster, five members of the Warriors G League affiliate in Santa Cruz will be available at minicamp. Before camp began, the Warriors added Roger Moute a Bidias, Zach Norvell Jr., Jeremy Pargo, Jonathon Simmons and Ryan Taylor as non-roster invites.

Simmons will serve as the group veteran, playing in over 250 games in his NBA career. After stops in San Antonio, Orlando and Philadelphia, the Houston product signed with the Santa Cruz Warriors last season.

During Golden State’s 2019-20 run, Pargo and Norvell Jr. were called up for 10-day contracts. Both Pargo and Norvell suited up for three games in Golden State before their deals expired.

Alongside Thompson and Andre Wiggins, the Bay Area Bubble will give the G League players an opportunity to impress Steve Kerr and Bob Myers before the Warriors progress through their extended offseason.

Report: Warriors will sign new players to 10-day contracts

Both Zach Norvell Jr. and Jeremy Pargo will not be signed to another 10-day contract with the Warriors.

The Golden State Warriors have some roster spots open since some recent moves at the trade deadline, and as the last part of the season rolls around, they’ll need some players to fill their roster in the short term.

According to The Athletic’s Anthony Slater, the Warriors did not sign Zach Norvell Jr. or Jeremy Pargo to another 10-day contract. Per Slater, the Warriors will sign new players to 10-day contracts.

A rookie, Norvell played in three games for Golden State. He scored 3.3 points a game and shot 37.5% from the 3-point line on 2.7 attempts.

Before playing with the Warriors, Norvell was playing in the G League with the South Bay Lakers, the Los Angeles Lakers’ G League affiliate. Norvell has played in 29 games with the South Bay Lakers, and he’s scored 15.2 points per game in 29.7 minutes.

Before playing with the Warriors, Pargo, 33, was playing overseas. He hadn’t played in the NBA since the 2012-13 season, when he spent time with the Philadelphia 76ers and Cleveland Cavaliers.

Pargo played in three games with the Warriors and scored 8.3 points per game in 14.7 minutes. Pargo also shot well from deep, hitting at a 42.9% clip on 2.3 attempts.

The Warriors headed into the All-Star break with the NBA’s worst record at 12-43. They will play the Houston Rockets at Chase Center on Thursday.

Lineup Update: Rookie Jordan Poole gets start at point guard vs. Suns

With D’Angelo Russell now on the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Golden State Warriors are in need of a new point guard, and against the Phoenix Suns, Rookie Jordan Poole got the start.

The impact of the NBA trade deadline is still making waves throughout the Golden State Warriors. The Dubs sent out six players via trade before the deadline passed, overhauling their roster for the second half of the season.

With several players moved, the Warriors have had to recreate their rotation with new players getting increased roles. One of those players is rookie Jordan Poole.

Trading D’Angelo Russell has left the Warriors without not only their starting point guard but their leading playmaker. Without Russell, Steve Kerr has leaned on rookie Ky Bowman, but against the Phoenix Suns, Poole got an opportunity to start at point guard.

Poole has had an up and down rookie season. However, in his last three games, Poole’s played 22 or more minutes and scored in double figures off the bench in each. Against the Miami Heat, Poole showed off his ability to get to the line, knocking down six free throws on six attempts. Poole added six boards and two assists against Miami.

With the Warriors record sitting at the bottom of the Western Conference, the rest of the season will be about development. Giving Poole a chance to take over ball-handling opportunities could give the 20-year-old a boost in confidence during his rookie year. Poole at the helm of the offense will also provide Golden State a better look at finding the right role for the former Michigan Wolverine in the future.
