NFL Week 9 best bets: One wager to make for every team (including the Bills)

NFL Week 9 best bets: One wager to make for every team (including the #Bills):

There have been more than a few surprises in the NFL this season, with the most recent being a stunning win by the Denver Broncos over the Kansas City Chiefs last week. Though Week 8 was filled with matchups that didn’t look great on paper, Week 9 has a number of intriguing games – including Chiefs-Dolphins, Cowboys-Eagles and Bills-Bengals.

We’re coming off our best week as a network, going 20-12 with our best bets in Week 8, and we’ll try to build off that with another solid week of picks. Marcus Mosher of Raiders Wire kept his winning streak alive, going a perfect 8-0 with his eight bets this season.

Here are our picks for Week 9, one for each team in the NFL.

Note: The 49ers, Lions, Broncos and Jaguars are on a bye this week.

Saints open as big favorites over the struggling Bears in Week 9

The New Orleans Saints opened as big favorites over the struggling Chicago Bears in Week 9:

Coming off their best offensive performance of the season, the New Orleans Saints open as huge favorites over the Chicago Bears. BetMGM Sportsbook favored the Saints by 7.5 points when lines opened on Monday, with a 41-point over/under forecasting a final score in the neighborhood of New Orleans 24, Chicago 17.

This spread likely has more to do with it being a home game against an incomplete Bears squad, rather than an overreaction to the offensive performance against the Colts last week. The Bears are currently 2-6 and without their star quarterback Justin Fields. Tyson Bagent has started the last two games for the Bears and they walked away with a victory in one of their games thanks to a dominant run game performance.

The Saints improved to 4-4 last week and sit tied for first in the NFC South. Can the offense keep it up and walk away with another big victory?

After a week off, the PGA Tour is south of the border for the 2023 World Wide Technology Championship at the Tiger Woods-designed El Cardonal at Diamante in Los Cabos, Mexico.

European Ryder Cupper Ludvig Aberg, who lost in a playoff at the Sanderson Farms Championship and tied for 13th at the Shriners Children’s Open in two starts during the FedEx Cup Fall, is the betting favorite at +900 (9/1). Cameron Young is next at +1100 (11/1), as he makes his first start since the BMW Championship. Fortinet Championship winner Sahith Theegala rounds out the top three in odds at +1600 (16/1).

Our favorite same-game parlay to bet on the Jaguars in Week 8

Will the Jaguars run wild against the Steelers’ shaky run defense?

The Jacksonville Jaguars are looking for a fifth straight win this weekend when they travel to play in Pittsburgh for the first time since a January 2018 playoff win.

Standing in their way is a 4-2 Pittsburgh Steelers team that has won four games decided by a touchdown or less and was blown out in 23- and 24-point losses.

Unlike usual iterations of the Steelers, this version has struggled to run the ball (29th in yards per carry) and stop the run (27th in yards allowed per carry). While Travis Etienne Jr. enters with a run of three straight two-touchdown games, the Jaguars haven’t been stellar at bulldozing running room.

If there are several bets you like in the Jaguars’ game against the Steelers this week, a fun way to play them is by parlaying them together. BetMGM offers same-game parlays that you can build yourself, including wagers such as the over/under, spread and player props.

Below is our favorite same-game parlay for the Jaguars-Steelers game in Week 8.

Michigan football has top national championship betting odds

Best team in the country! #GoBlue

Michigan football isn’t playing a game in Week 9 as it’s finally on bye. Thus far, the weakest of the Wolverines’ schedule is behind them with three of the four teams ahead having pretty convincing winning records.

However, with none of the expected dominant teams really — well — dominating, the maize and blue are the most complete team at this point in time.

Thus, Las Vegas is really, really high on Michigan football.

[betwidget_betmgm]

After last week’s 49-0 drubbing of rival Michigan State on its home turf, BetMGM vaulted Michigan football into the top spot, and the Wolverines are now the favorite to win it all, as the team with the best odds in all of college football.

Michigan is +225, surpassing Georgia at +275. Ohio State has the third-best odds at +700 while Florida State, Washington, and Alabama are next up on the list.

If the Wolverines continue to win big while other teams either struggle and still win or accumulate losses, then expect the maize and blue’s odds to keep getting greater.

Oddsmakers: Bills another big favorite over Patriots in Week 7

Oddsmakers: #Bills another big favorite over #Patriots in Week 7:

Even after a bit of a down game in a win against the New York Giants, the Buffalo Bills remain a large favorite in their upcoming matchup with the New England Patriots.

According to BetMGM, the Bills (4-2) have opened as a 8.5-point favorite over the Patriots (1-5). That, despite the game being played in New England. Typically the home team gets around a three-point bump in the spread.

Naturally, the different records between the two teams explains why. The Pats are off to an awful start and are in the basement of the AFC East.

Most would pick the Bills to outright win this one. But could the Patriots still cover? That looks unlikely, too. New England’s record against the spread is the same as their overall record, 1-5.

Meanwhile, Buffalo is 3-3. The lone win the Bills have had where they did not cover came against the Giants last week. The Bills were over two-touchdown favorites and won 14-9.

In addition to the spread, the over/under opened as the lowest total Buffalo has had for a contest: 41. Even so, the Bills have struggled to reach their point totals so far in 2023, having only done so twice. New England, again, has a 1-5 record against the over/under.

The moneyline sits at Bills (-400) and Patriots (+310).

One Jaguars player you should bet to score a TD in Week 7

Which Jaguars player is the likeliest to score a touchdown against the Saints on Thursday night?

Oddsmakers haven’t been sure what to make of the Jacksonville Jaguars’ Week 7 game against the New Orleans Saints. In the couple days since both teams played Sunday, each team has taken a turn being the underdog for Thursday.

With Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence’s availability for the game still up in the air, many prop bets were unavailable into Tuesday. But it was an optimistic afternoon Tuesday in Jacksonville with backup quarterback C.J. Beathard saying it’s “very likely” that Lawrence plays in Week 7.

One of the most popular ways to bet on an NFL game is the anytime touchdown scorer prop. You bet on one player to score a touchdown, and if they do, you make money.

Sounds simple, right?

It’s not as easy as it seems, but it is rewarding when the player you bet does find the end zone – especially if he plays for your team

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

With the Jaguars facing the Saints on Thursday, we’ve highlighted one player you should bet to score a touchdown this week. Odds are courtesy of BetMGM.

Evan Engram anytime TD scorer: +310

The first instinct, given Lawrence’s injury, is to pick Travis Etienne Jr. to score Thursday. After all, the Jaguars running back already has five touchdowns, including four in the last two weeks.

Etienne’s +115 doesn’t offer much value on a pretty risky bet, though. The Saints have allowed just one rushing touchdown through six weeks.

What they have allowed in the last few games is for tight ends to get loose. The Texans’ Dalton Schultz and Buccaneers’ Cade Otton scored touchdowns against the Saints in the last three weeks.

Engram is due to get into the end zone and presents good value at +310 even if it’s Beathard under center.
