Notre Dame Football Offers ‘22 OLB Jaishawn Barham

Jaishawn Barham of DeMatha Catholic in Maryland announced a scholarship offer.

Early on Monday we learned that Notre Dame had offered a scholarship to 2022 outside linebacker Gabe Powers of Ohio, which we discussed on FIW.

As it turns out, Powers wasn’t the only outside linebacker to receive an offer from Brian Kelly and company on Monday as Jaishawn Barham of DeMatha Catholic in Maryland announced a scholarship offer.

Barham is listed a little thicker than Powers but not quite as tall, coming in at 6-3, 230 pounds per 247Sports.

Notre Dame is the 15th scholarship offer Barham has received as the Irish join Florida, Iowa, Michigan, Nebraska, Ohio State, Penn State, South Carolina, Texas A&M, Virginia, Virginia Tech and a few others to offer.

Barham is the eleventh player Notre Dame has offered a scholarship to in the 2022 recruiting class.

49ers Super Bowl Berth Earns Pair of Notre Dame Products Trip to Big Game

Sheldon Day and Mike McGlinchey will be wearing the red, gold and white of the 49ers when they meet the Kansas City Chiefs on February 2 in Miami.

When the San Francisco 49ers finished their domination of the Green Bay Packers at Levi’s Stadium on Sunday, a pair of Notre Dame alumni earned their first trips to the Super Bowl.

Sheldon Day and Mike McGlinchey will be wearing the red, gold and white of the 49ers when they meet the Kansas City Chiefs on February 2 in Miami.

Day is in his fourth NFL season after spending a year and a half in Jacksonville before being waived in 2017 and picked up by the 49ers.

Day played in all 16 regular season games for San Francisco this season, making 15 tackles and recording one sack this year.

Day played on Notre Dame’s defensive line from 2012-15 and was a valuable rotational piece in the the 2012 year that finished with a 12-0 regular season. He had 32 tackles for loss in four seasons at Notre Dame.

Joining Day in Miami will be Mike McGlinchey who reaches the Super Bowl in just his second NFL season.

McGlinchey was a key part of why Notre Dame won the Joe Moore Award for the nation’s best offensive line in 2017 as he and Quenton Nelson of the Colts were both drafted in the first round the following spring.

McGlinchey was key in the 49ers dominating run game as the right tackle was part of the reason they ran for 285 yards and attempted just eight passes all day.

The 49ers will meet the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIV as the Chiefs have no active former Notre Dame players on their roster but do feature former Irish tight end Alize Mack on their practice squad and former Notre Dame offensive lineman Andy Heck who has coached Kansas City’s offensive line since 2013.

Notre Dame Football: Offers Scholarship to 2022 Ohio OLB

Powers is listed at 6-4, 220 pounds, not bad size for a young man who won’t graduate high school for over two more years.

Notre Dame has continued with a busy stretch of their recruiting run as they try to get ahead of the game for 2022.

Most recently Brian Kelly and the Fighting Irish offered Outside Linebacker Gabe Powers of Maryville, Ohio to be part of their 2022 class.

Powers is listed at 6-4, 220 pounds, not bad size for a young man who won’t graduate high school for over two more years.

Notre Dame became the twelfth scholarship offer Powers has received, joining Boston College, Kentucky, Colorado, Florida State, Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Tennessee and West Virginia.

Notre Dame: Women’s Basketball Gets Much Needed Win Over Miami

Freshman Sam Brunelle led the way with 25 points while Destinee Walker finished 21 points and seven rebounds herself.

It has been a trying year for Muffet McGraw and the Fighting Irish so Sunday’s win over previously 10-7 Miami had to be satisfying.

Especially considering the second half the now 7-12 Fighting Irish went on.

Holding a the slightest of leads at halftime Notre Dame came out on fire after intermission Sunday, outscoring the Hurricanes 24-7 in the third frame en-route to a 76-53 takedown of Miami.

Freshman Sam Brunelle led the way with 25 points while Destinee Walker added 21 points and seven rebounds.

Mikayla Vaughn (16) and Katlyn Gilbert (12) also reached double-figures.

Notre Dame shot a lights-out 70% from beyond the arc while Miami struggled from the outside, making just four of 23 attempts (17.4%).

The win was just the second for Notre Dame in ACC play as they now sit at 2-5 in the conference.

They’ll look for win number three of the ACC season on January 26 as they resume action with a trip to Virginia.

Ohio State men’s hockey wins second game of series against Notre Dame, takes over first place in Big Ten

The Ohio State men’s hockey team got a big win over Notre Dame Saturday. The win gave it sole-possession of 1st place in the Big Ten

The Ohio State men’s hockey team got a big win against Notre Dame Saturday. The result gave the Buckeyes three out of four total points on the weekend. It was a good finish to a series that began with a shootout Big Ten point after a regulation tie for the Irish on Friday night.

Notre Dame got the scoring going first with a goal with 8:29 left in the 1st period, but Quinn Preston answered a few minutes later to tie the score at 1-1 at the end of the first twenty minutes.

It didn’t take long for the Buckeyes to take the lead for good early in the 2nd period when Gustaf Westlund hit the back of the net just 1:43 into the period. From there, the Irish pressed and pressed but couldn’t get the equalizer through the almost 40 final minutes thanks to a whopping 28 saves by OSU goaltender Ryan Snowden.

With the win, coupled by a Penn State tie, the Buckeyes take over sole possession of first place in the Big Ten. OSU and Penn State have both played 14 games, but Ohio State has 26 points on the season to the Nittany Lions 25.

The Buckeyes now have a big two-game series against Minnesota next weekend on the road. It’ll need some good results to remain in first place in the conference.

Notre Dame Football: Is Kyle Hamilton a Top-5 Safety Nationwide?

Now to the question some may be asking: is Hamilton really a top-five safety?

Notre Dame loses talent in the secondary in 2020 as Alohi Gilman has entered the NFL Draft while Donte Vaughn and Troy Pride, Jr. are both out of eligibility.

Earlier this month Shaun Crawford announced he’d be returning for a sixth season at Notre Dame which will be incredibly beneficial for the Irish as long as Crawford can stay healthy.

What will also help is Kyle Hamilton returning after a freshman year that landed him on both the Pro Football Focus and FWAA Freshman All-American Teams.

PFF released their “Top 30 Returning Defensive Backs” Saturday and Hamilton found a spot at number 20 there.

True freshman safety Kyle Hamilton could not have done much more in coverage for the Fighting Irish this year. The 6-foot-4 defensive back finished among the five best safeties in the country in PFF coverage grade and had more interceptions plus pass breakups (nine) than catches allowed (seven). That production paved the way to just a 1.3 passer rating allowed. He read quarterbacks like books and made special plays all year long — he’ll be a vital piece to the Irish secondary over the next couple of seasons.

If you rank only safeties then Hamilton comes in fifth.

Although the eventual starting defensive backfield won’t have much experience playing together, the likes of Hamilton, Crawford, transfer Isaiah Pryor create a pretty high floor.

Now to the question some may be asking: is Hamilton really a top-five safety?

Frankly, five seems a bit low for a guy who it was newsworthy to pull in a reception against in 2020.

Ohio State men’s hockey rallies in third period to tie Notre Dame

The Ohio State men’s hockey team used a three-goal 3rd period to gain a valuable point against Big Ten foe Notre Dame.

It looked awfully bleak for awhile.

Ohio State fell down big to Notre Dame, but had one heck of a three-goal third-period rally to snatch a tie away from the jaws of defeat.

The Fighting Irish got the scoring started at 4:02 of the first period, then added two more goals in the second to go up 3-0. The Buckeyes got on the board finally with 7:38 left in the 3rd period when Gordi Meyer lit the lamp. Austin Pooley added another Ohio State goal just over a minute later to make it a one-goal lead.

But then Notre Dame struck again with 3:43 left and it looked like the Buckeyes would go home without a point. But not tonight. OSU rallied to score two more when OSU emptied the net and Quinn Preston scored on a 6×4 Power Play with 1:37 left. Then, a few seconds later OSU remarkably tied it up at 4-4 when Gustaf Westland put one into the back of the net.

And just like that, Ohio State salvaged a point in a big matchup between ranked teams. The Irish got the extra Big Ten point when it scored with the sixth shooter in the shootout after a scoreless overtime period.

The two will be back at it again tomorrow.

How a Notre Dame OL Commit is Reminding Me of Louis Nix

Does a Notre Dame Commit already know Will Shipley’s future plans or is @BFisher54_ just teasing everyone?

Blake Fisher is among the top high school football talents graduating in 2021 and has already committed to Brian Kelly’s program at Notre Dame.

Fisher committed last June, is listed at 6-5, 336 pounds and is regarded as one of the top offensive tackles in the nation in regards to the 2021 recruiting class.

After a tweet Fisher sent out Friday afternoon, we can now sit and ponder this weekend if he knows something Notre Dame are craving more information on.

Is the nation’s No. 1 All Purpose Back Will Shipley headed to South Bend in 2021, too?

Notre Dame Run Game Coordinator Lance Taylor was again in North Carolina to visit the much-desired Shipley today which was at least the sixth time a visit has been made between Shipley and the Irish.

Fisher has been open about wanting do his part in attracting more talent to Notre Dame’s 2021 class, something he’s already played a part in.

“Nothing like a connection between a RB and his lineman!!”

Indeed there isn’t.

If you’re wondering how Shipley responded to the message, wonder no more.

It wasn’t a commitment I’m assuming Taylor’s latest visit at least didn’t go poorly after seeing that.

Whether Shipley ends up at Notre Dame or not a move like this reminds me a bit of when Louis Nix committed despite a head coach not even being in place.

Nix would go on to a great career in South Bend while also being a tremendous pitchman for the university and football program.

We can only hope Fisher’s career at Notre Dame goes just as well.

Shocker – Star Back Travis Etienne Returning to Clemson

Etienne is nothing short of a superstar in the college game as anyone who has watched Clemson is recent memory can attest.

It’s not a common thing these days to see star running backs stay four years in college if they’re seen as potential first or second day NFL Draft picks.

However, that will indeed be the case for one of the best in the game as Clemson running back Travis Etienne has announced he is returning Clemson for his senior season in 2020.

It’s certainly not unheard of but I wasn’t expecting this news today.

Etienne is nothing short of a superstar in the college game as anyone who has watched Clemson recently memory can attest.

In three years the Tigers running back has run for 4038 yards and 56 touchdowns while pulling in 54 receptions for 618 more yards and six more scores.

1614 of those rush yards and 19 rushing touchdowns came last season.

Etienne and the Clemson Tigers will enter 2020 as the number-one team in the nation barring something completely unseen and make just their second-ever trip to Notre Dame Stadium this November 7.

Notre Dame Football: New Offer to 2022 Florida TE/DE

Livingston also spends time on the hardwood where he can throw down which I suppose isn’t surprising for a young man who is 6-6.

Notre Dame’s coaching staff remained busy Friday morning not just working on the 2021 recruiting class but laying the groundwork for 2022 as well.

Current sophomore tight end/defensive end Tony Livingston of Sneffer Christian Academy in Florida announced the offer on his Twitter account late Friday morning.

Livingston is listed on 247 as 6-6, 225 pounds. His Twitter profile however claims he’s 6-6, 255.

Livingston also spends time on the hardwood where he can throw down which I suppose isn’t surprising for a young man who is 6-6.

Livingston has previously received football scholarship offers from South Carolina, Iowa State, Central Florida, Florida International and West Virginia.
