OKC Blue acquire Norvel Pelle from Mexico City Capitanes for Zeke Moore

The OKC Blue made a roster change on Friday for a 30-year-old center.

The OKC Blue announced on Friday they had acquired the rights of Norvel Pelle from the Mexico City Capitanes for the rights of Zeke Moore.

The Blue added the 30-year-old center to their roster. Pelle went undrafted in 2014 and has appeared in 40 career games spanning three seasons from 2019 to 2022 for the Philadelphia 76ers, Brooklyn Nets, Sacramento Kings, New York Knicks and Utah Jazz.

In those 40 games, he’s averaged 2.1 points and 2.4 rebounds in 8.4 minutes.

Meanwhile, the Capitanes added the 25-year-old guard to their roster. Moore went undrafted in 2020 and appeared in three G League games for the Blue last season, where he averaged 7.3 points and 1.3 rebounds in 14 minutes.

The Blue’s 2023-24 G League season kicks off on Nov. 10. The full schedule can be viewed here.

Every player in Philadelphia 76ers history who has worn No. 14

Here is a list of all 34 players who have worn the No. 14 in the history of the Philadelphia 76ers.

It’s summertime in the NBA, so it’s time to learn some history. The Philadelphia 76ers are one of the older franchises in the NBA. Their history dates to the 1949-50 season.

With that longevity, the team has had hundreds of players come through the City of Brotherly Love. Sixers Wire looks at the No. 14, which has been worn by a whopping 34 of those players in the history of the franchise.

This running series will go through all of the uniform numbers worn in franchise history. The previous edition of this series was a list compiling the seven players who have worn the No. 15.

Here is the list of the 34 who have worn No. 14 in Sixers history:

Shams: Boston Celtics to add big men Al-Farouq Aminu and Norvel Pelle to shore up COVID-19-beset frontcourt

They will help fill the gaps COVID-19 has left in the frontcourt.

The Boston Celtics are reportedly signing a pair of big men to 10-day hardship exemption deals to help their dinged-up frontcourt rotation after seeing Al Horford, Enes Kanter Freedom, Grant Williams, and Jabari Parker all ended up in the NBA’s health and safety protocols with positive COVID-19 tests in the last week, according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania.

The players in question are 11-season NBA veteran forward Al-Farouq Aminu and center Norvel Pelle. Pelle has been trying to work his way back into the Association from the G League after his most recent stint in the NBA with the New York Knicks last season, while Aminu most recently played for the Chicago Bulls in 2020-21.

Neither is likely to be a game changer for the Celtics in terms of their impact on either end of the court, but with eight players total currently in the health and safety protocols, Boston needs size with a pulse at the moment — and a little more veteran leadership certainly can’t hurt the young team either.

Former Sixers big man Norvel Pelle to sign 10-day deal with Knicks

Former Philadelphia 76ers big man Norvel Pelle will sign a deal with the New York Knicks.

As the Philadelphia 76ers continue on with their season, a former big man on their roster has found his new opportunity as the new additions the team made over the offseason forced others to look elsewhere.

Norvel Pelle proved to be a solid shot-blocker during his rookie season in Philadelphia averaging 1.3 blocks per game, but after the Sixers made some upgrades, Pelle was forced to look somewhere else. He spent some time with the Sacramento Kings and the Brooklyn Nets, but he has now found a new spot.

Pelle has signed a 10-day contract with the New York Knicks. He will fit in with their system of being a defensive-minded and physical center. He joins Nerlens Noel as former Sixers on the Knicks roster.

The Knicks are in playoff contention for the first time since 2013 and Pelle will be looking to help them get there. The Knicks and the Sixers could match up in the playoffs in Round 1 with the way the standings are at the moment.

Nets make room for Andre Roberson by waiving Norvel Pelle

The Nets are making yet another adjustment to their roster, bringing an end to Norvel Pelle’s Brooklyn career.

The Norvel Pelle experiment has ended before it really had a chance to get started. The Nets have requested waivers on the big man after signing him to a deal back on January 28. He only got the chance to play in three games, logging 17 minutes in his first appearance, 8:39 in his second and only 1:54 in what proved to be his last time on the floor for the Nets, Brooklyn’s win over the Indiana Pacers.

But that’s not the only move the Nets are making. Despite their lack of depth down low, Brooklyn has decided to add another wing following Pelle’s departure.

The Nets have agreed to a deal with Andre Roberson, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

A NBA All-Defensive second team selection in 2016-17, Roberson missed most of 2017-18 and all of 2018-19 due to injury, making his return in the Disney bubble last season. Roberson had spent his entire career in Oklahoma City before becoming a free agent this past offseason, spending his first two years of his NBA career playing alongside Kevin Durant.

Iman Shumpert available for Nets on Friday vs. Raptors

Norvel Pelle could make his Nets debut against the Toronto Raptors on Friday, and Iman Shumpert has been given the green light to play.

With the Brooklyn Nets transferring Reggie Perry to their G League affiliate, the Long Island Nets, on Thursday, Friday could mark the Nets debut of Norvel Pelle. However, don’t expect Pelle to play much if he does at all — Steve Nash indicated Brooklyn is still working to get the big man in shape during his Zoom call with reporters on Thursday.

Like Pelle, Iman Shumpert will be available to suit up for the Nets again. Shumpert has not played in an NBA game since December 11, 2019 — shortly after which he was waived by the Nets.

Pelle’s last appearance in an NBA game came in the first round of the 2020 NBA Playoffs in the Disney bubble. He logged just over six minutes of action for the Philadelphia 76ers in their Game 2 loss to the Boston Celtics.

The Nets host the Toronto Raptors on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Nets ink deal with Norvel Pelle

Norvel Pelle is officially a member of the Brooklyn Nets roster, signing a deal with the team on Thursday.

The Brooklyn Nets have filled out one of their vacant spots that was opened up in the James Harden trade — which led to Caris LeVert joining the Indiana Pacers, Rodions Kurucs the Houston Rockets and both Jarrett Allen and Taurean Prince the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Nets announced on Thursday the franchise inked a deal with free agent big man Norvel Pelle.

Pelle will not be able to suit up for the Nets until Sunday’s game against the Washington Wizards, per Brian Lewis of the New York Post. Pelle has not played in an NBA game this season, having been waived by Cleveland just before the start of the season in December.

The 6-foot-10, 230-pound big man made his NBA debut with the Philadelphia 76ers last season after spending multiple years in the G League and playing overseas. In his 24 games with Philly, averaged three rebounds and 1.3 blocks a night on only 9.7 minutes per game.

Novel Pelle could help Nets, but would he be enough?

The Brooklyn Nets have finally found another big man — something they desperately need after trading Jarrett Allen’s.

Between their miniseries in Cleveland and their first game of their miniseries with the Heat at Barclays Center served as quick reminders of just how much the franchise will miss their 2017 NBA first-round draft pick, Jarret Allen. Rebounding was an issue against the Cavs, Bam Adebayo scored a career-high in the close win over Miami and Brooklyn’s interior defense has been close to non-existent.

Kevin Durant and Jeff Green provide some help, but DeAndre Jordan’s best days are behind him and the only other big on the roster following the James Harden trade is the injured Nicolas Claxton (right knee tendinopathy).

According to ESPN‘s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Nets are set to sign former Philadelphia 76ers big man Norvel Pelle “pending clearance of Health and Safety protocols.” The defensive-minded big man addresses a need for the Nets in some capacity.

Pelle is a shot-blocker, which helps slow down the interior defense issue Brooklyn has had — but it can’t be ignored that he took a long time to break in with the Philadelphia 76ers before he waived before the start of this season. He was with Cleveland for a time — well before Allen was traded to the Cavs — but that didn’t last long, getting waived before the start of the 2020-21 regular season.

The Nets have a good history with reclamation projects,  but Brooklyn is better off getting another big in addition to Pelle — like JaVale McGee, for instance.

Former Sixers big man Norvel Pelle to sign a deal with the rival Nets

Former Philadelphia 76ers big man Norvel Pelle will sign with the Brooklyn Nets.

Former Philadelphia 76ers big man Norvel Pelle has been looking for his next opportunity after having a solid rookie season in Philadelphia. He appears to have found it with a title contender in the East depending on passing the league’s health and safety protocols.

Pelle will sign a deal with the rival Brooklyn Nets who have been in need of some size and rim protection after moving a lot to acquire superstar James Harden. Pelle played in 24 games with the Sixers while averaging 1.3 blocks for a total of 31 in his rookie season with the Sixers. He will be able to provide both of the aspects that the Nets need right now.

This is a good opportunity for Pelle as he will now have a chance to be a major contributor to a title contender. The Nets are in need of his services and he will be able to learn from a good veteran in DeAndre Jordan.

Former Sixers young big man Norvel Pelle to sign with the Pacers

Former Philadelphia 76ers big man Norvel Pelle will sign with the Indiana Pacers.

As the Philadelphia 76ers did a major makeover to their roster following a disappointing 2019-20 season, they had to let a few young pieces go in order to make room for the new acquisitions.

One of those players they had to let go of was young big man Norvel Pelle who worked his way through the team’s G League system to earn a guaranteed contract during the season. He averaged 2.4 points 3.0 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks in 24 games as he showed off an ability to be an energy guy off a team’s bench.

While that chance will not be in Philadelphia, Pelle has now found the next stop on his NBA journey. He will sign a deal with the Indiana Pacers after they cleared some spots for him.

Pelle will now have a chance to learn from other big men such as All-Star Domantas Sabonis and the energetic Myles Turner. While Indiana is another team that is deep at the big man spot, Pelle will certainly be given a chance to break through with them. [lawrence-related id=40397,40394,40375]
