  • Over/Under: 2.5 rounds (Over -250 | Under +185)
  • Will the fight go the distance? (Yes -200 | No +150)

UFC Fight Night 224: Dumont vs. Chandler picks and predictions

Fight result (2-way line or moneyline)

The battle-tested DUMONT (-145) is the better play, as Chandler will be facing her most experienced opponent, by far.

The Team Suoto fight knows how to do enough to impress the judges, and Saturday night should be no different. She enters with back-to-back unanimous-decision wins over Karol Rosa and Danyelle Wolf and should make it 3 straight after doing enough to get by Chandler.

Over/Under (O/U)

While Yes (-200): Will the fight go the distance?, and Over 2.5 Rounds (-250), are just too expensive, you can still make money on the result.

Look to the method of victory, and play DUMONT BY DECISION/TECHNICAL DECISION (+100) on the 7-way line at even money for a much better value.

UFC on ESPN 49 video: Chelsea Chandler, Norma Dumont separated during heated backstage incident after faceoff

Middle fingers and bad words flew as Chelsea Chandler and Norma Dumont were pulled apart at the UFC Apex.

[autotag]Chelsea Chandler[/autotag] vs. [autotag]Norma Dumont[/autotag] might be the final women’s featherweight fight in UFC history – and there’s some heat behind it.

Following UFC on ESPN 49 faceoffs Friday, Chandler (5-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) and Dumont (9-2 MMA, 5-2 UFC) had to be separated backstage at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. MMA Junkie acquired video of the altercation from Dumont’s manager, Alex Davis, which shows a fired-up Dumont speaking Portuguese and glaring at Chandler, who moved forward. The fighters flipped middle fingers each way as Davis and other bystanders intervened to pull the fighters apart.

It’s unclear exactly where the bad blood between the two featherweights began, but they had just engaged in a tense ceremonial faceoff moments prior. Chandler and Dumont are scheduled to fight Saturday on the main card at the UFC Apex.

Chelsea Chandler says Norma Dumont fights ‘boring’ sometimes, plans to knock her out in second

Chelsea Chandler plans on bringing the fight to Norma Dumont at UFC on ESPN 49.

LAS VEGAS – [autotag]Chelsea Chandler[/autotag] plans on bringing the fight to [autotag]Norma Dumont[/autotag].

Chandler (5-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) takes on Dumont (9-2 MMA, 5-2 UFC) in a featherweight bout on Saturday’s main card at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. The card airs on ESPN and streams on ESPN+.

Chandler isn’t a fan of Dumont’s style but thinks her game plan will make for an exciting fight and lead to a finish.

“She kind of plays it boring sometimes,” Chandler told MMA Junkie and other reporters at Wednesday’s UFC on ESPN 49 media day. “She plays it safe, and I plan on going forward and putting it to her. So, if I go out there and do what I want, I feel like I’m going to rag-doll her and make her tired, and I’m hoping for a KO, Round 2.”

With UFC president Dana White saying that the featherweight division will likely be retired due to Amanda Nunes recently retiring, Chandler hopes that an emphatic finish of Dumont saves the division – especially since she doesn’t see other fighters putting on exciting performances.

“I understand why the featherweight division is going away,” Chandler said. “I mean, you’ve got Norma who’s fighting these boring fights, and she’s pitter-pattering. Nobody wants to see that. So, they want a heavy-hitter that’s going to go out there and take someone’s head off, and I think I can be that person.

“If I’m not, I would love to fight at bantamweight, too. I’m prepared to fight at either. I like featherweight. I think I’m heavier, my shots are harder, and I can take girls out. But we’ll see what the UFC wants to do after this performance.”

Norma Dumont: Shutting down women’s featherweight would be a ‘huge loss for the UFC’

Norma Dumont thinks the UFC would be making a mistake by eliminating the women’s featherweight division.

LAS VEGAS – [autotag]Norma Dumont[/autotag] thinks the UFC would be making a mistake by removing the women’s featherweight division.

Dumont (9-2 MMA, 5-2 UFC) meets Chelsea Chandler (5-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) in a featherweight bout on Saturday’s UFC on ESPN 49 main card at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. The card airs on ESPN and streams on ESPN+.

With former 145-pound champion Amanda Nunes retiring last month, UFC president Dana White said the division, which debuted in February 2017, likely would be retired with her, which Dumont finds disappointing.

“I think that if the UFC does not proceed, not continue with the division, I think it’s going to be a huge loss for the UFC,” Dumont told MMA Junkie and other reporters through an interpreter at Wednesday’s UFC on ESPN 49 media day. “We’re taking this fight thinking that this Saturday, they’re going to see somebody who’s eager to continue, who wants to be the face of this division, and is working for it, and is going to give them reasons to be excited about actually having fights in the future.

“Also, towards the end of the year, we have a former champion of the division that’s coming back. I think there are reasons why they should consider this, and it would be a big loss if they decided not to go with it. They just need to have people like us that are going to show the division and what it’s capable of.”

If the UFC does end up removing the featherweight division, Dumont said she’s already been physically preparing for the possibility of having to continue her career at bantamweight.

“This is some work that’s actually being done with the team as of late,” Dumont said. “My last two weight cuts were actually pretty chill, pretty OK. We actually cut about four pounds or so, exactly planning and anticipating that this could be happening in the future, and if need be, I will be ready to actually chase for that belt.”

UFC adds Norma Dumont vs. Chelsea Chandler to July 15 event

Norma Dumont will have to fight at least once more before getting a shot at Amanda Nunes.

[autotag]Norma Dumont[/autotag] will have to fight at least once more before she gets a shot at Amanda Nunes.

Dumont (9-2 MMA, 5-2 UFC) meets [autotag]Chelsea Chandler[/autotag] (5-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) in a featherweight bout at a UFC event on July 15.

A person with knowledge of the booking recently informed MMA Junkie of the matchup but asked to remain anonymous since the promotion has yet to make an official announcement. Women’s MMA Rankings was first to report the news.

Dumont is fresh off a unanimous decision win over Karol Rosa this past Saturday at UFC Fight Night 222. Winner of five of her past six, Dumont called out dual-champion Amanda Nunes for not defending her featherweight title, but Nunes currently is booked to defend her bantamweight belt against Julianna Peña in the UFC 289 headliner on June 10.

Chandler made good on her UFC debut when she scored a first-round TKO of Julija Stoliarenko this past October. The finish earned the Invicta FC alum a Performance of the Night bonus. Chandler was scheduled to face Danyelle Wolf in Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 223 event, but the bout was scrapped when Wolf withdrew due to undisclosed reasons.

With the addition, the July 15 lineup includes:

  • Walt Harris vs. Josh Parisian
  • Azat Maksum vs. Tyson Nam
  • Chelsea Chandler vs. Norma Dumont

Norma Dumont wants UFC featherweight title shot, calls out Amanda Nunes for sitting on belt

“This is the time for the UFC to perhaps step in” and give Norma Dumont what she wants.

LAS VEGAS – [autotag]Norma Dumont[/autotag] thinks [autotag]Amanda Nunes[/autotag] should defend her featherweight title or the division move on without her.

Dual champ Nunes (22-5 MMA, 15-2 UFC) hasn’t defended her featherweight title since submitting Megan Anderson in March 2021. She has since lost her bantamweight title to Julianna Peña then regained it in an immediate rematch.

With their series tied 1-1, Nunes and Peña will attempt to complete their trilogy in the UFC 289 headliner on June 10. But Dumont (9-2 MMA, 5-2 UFC), who defeated Karol Rosa in a featherweight bout this past Saturday at UFC Fight Night 222, is tired of waiting and is ready for her title shot.

“I think that this is the time for the UFC to perhaps step in,” Dumont told reporters through an interpreter at the UFC Fight Night 222 post-fight press conference. “First of all, the belt has not been defended for three years. I mean, she’s just sitting on it right there. I stayed at featherweight exactly for this very reason. So, either they pressure her into actually defending the title once and for all, or I will fight someone else for the interim title.”

If she could pick someone to fight for the interim title, Dumont would love it to be former bantamweight champion Holly Holm.

“Please, Holly Holm, let’s go to work,” Dumont said. “My dream is fighting her. I’ve tried many times, and she never answers me.”

[lawrence-auto-related count=3 category=420030788]

Dumont hopes Nunes can close out her chapter with Peña emphatically, so she can pivot to defending her featherweight title against her.

“No doubt that I want to face her,” Dumont said. “When I got this matchup to face Karol, I knew exactly the fighter that I was going to see. A tough opponent, someone who was going to come right at me and offer me a very, very good pre-Amanda fight. That’s what I saw. I want Amanda to beat Julianna convincingly so that we can face each other by the end of the year. And my camp starts tomorrow.”
