Dolphins waive DT Niles Scott

Scott was in Miami for a cup of coffee.

The Miami Dolphins have waived defensive tackle Niles Scott, as they are cutting down their roster to meet the 53-man limit by the Tuesday deadline.

Scott was signed just two weeks ago, along with Mackensie Alexander (injured reserve), when the Dolphins had a roster spot open up with cornerback Trill Williams being placed on injured reserve.

He made three tackles during his two preseason appearances with Miami. Unfortunately, there wasn’t enough time for him to surpass some of the other depth options in the middle of the defensive line.

Be sure to keep up with all of Miami’s roster moves via the cutdown tracker.

Dolphins sign DT Niles Scott, place CB Trill Williams on IR

More defensive help.

Despite rosters needing to be cut to 85 by 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday, the Miami Dolphins are continuing to sign players.

Along with their signing of cornerback MacKenzie Alexander, the Dolphins also announced that they’ve signed defensive tackle Niles Scott.

Scott went undrafted in 2018 out of Frostburg State and was originally signed by the San Francisco 49ers. Since then, he’s had stops in Denver, Cincinnati, Buffalo, Las Vegas, Tennessee, New England and Seattle.

He played six games as a rookie, recording four tackles, but he hasn’t played in the regular season since.

Miami may be looking to move on from one of their defensive linemen, and Scott could be a replacement, as they get a look at him in the preseason.

Along with these two roster moves, the Dolphins also announced that they’ve put cornerback Trill Williams on injured reserve after his torn ACL revelation. Being put on injured reserve before the start of the regular season means he will not be able to return in 2022 if he were to have a miraculous recovery by the end of the year.

Seahawks announce 2 roster moves, including re-signing S Josh Jones

Defensive tackle Niles Scott has been waived and former Seattle safety Josh Jones has been re-signed to take his place.

The Seattle Seahawks announced two roster moves this afternoon a couple of days after the conclusion of the 2022 NFL draft.

Defensive tackle Niles Scott has been waived and former Seattle safety Josh Jones has been re-signed to take his place.

Jones (6-foot-2, 220 pounds) has played 58 games in his NFL career, including four with the Seahawks in the 2021 season after they suffered a rash of injuries in their secondary late in the year.

Unsurprisingly, Seattle elected not to draft a safety prospect this year. Jones joins Ryan Neal and Marquise Blair as the backups behind starters Jamal Adams and Quandre Diggs.

Seahawks tryout 3 free agent linemen, cut 1 DB from practice squad

Yesterday, the team brought in three free agent linemen for tryouts and also cut one player from the practice squad

The Seahawks have several holes to fill on their roster – and that was before the news that Jamal Adams would miss the rest of the season due to a shoulder injury that will require surgery.

Yesterday, the team brought in three free agent linemen for tryouts and also waived one player from the practice squad. Here’s a review.

Bills workout 3 CBs, release Niles Scott via injury

Buffalo Bills had three cornerback workouts after releasing Niles Scott.

The Bills had a few minor roster items to note on Tuesday via the NFL’s transaction wire.

Per the list, the Bills have released Niles Scott via injury settlement. The defensive tackle signed with the Bills on Aug. 2 and was previously placed on waivers due to an undisclosed injury on Aug. 16, went unclaimed and the 24-year-old reached that settlement with the team on Tuesday. The Bills had since added Tanzel Smart and Justin Zimmer to their depth at the position.

The more interesting set of notes on the list were the Bills’ listed workouts. Buffalo brought in three cornerbacks to do so, Brian Allen, Charles Oliver and Kobe Williams. Allen, 26, was a fifth-round pick of the Steelers in 2017 and has only played special teams in his career. He was recently released by the Seahawks.

Oliver and Williams are both undrafted rookie free agents out of Texas A&M and Arizona State, respectively.

The Bills’ decision to workout all three comes on the heels of undrafted rookie cornerback Ike Brown surprisingly retiring on Monday. In addition, veteran Josh Norman is currently battling a hamstring issue.

Bills add two to D-line before padded practices

Buffalo Bills sign two defensive tackles one day prior to padded practices starting.

The Buffalo Bills made a pair of roster moves on Sunday, one day before the team takes the field for their first padded practices of this year’s training camp on Monday. Both moves involved the same position as the Bills signed two defensive tackles, the team announced.

Those two players are Tanzel Smart and Justin Zimmer, who’s actually re-joining the Bills. Back in 2016, Zimmer signed with Buffalo as an undrafted rookie free agent, but was cut at the end of training camp. Zimmer then jumped to the Saints for the remainder of that season, and then made his NFL debut with the Falcons in 2018. Last season, he spent time on the Browns’ active roster. Overall, he’s played in three games recording five tackles, including one for loss.

Smart was drafted in the sixth round of the 2017 NFL Draft by the Rams, where he’s spent the past three seasons. In 31 games, he has 21 tackles and one pass defended.

In signing two defensive tackles, it appears the Bills are leaving no stone unturned in their efforts to replace Star Lotulelei in the team’s starting defense after he opted out of playing in 2020. Defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier recently hinted at this, as he made a reference to Quinton Jefferson potentially being tried out in Lotulelei’s spot. Jefferson is not someone on paper pegged to play in Lotulelei’s role.

In corresponding moves, the Bills waived/ injured defensive tackle Niles Scott, who only recently joined the Bills but was evidently hurt in some conditioning work in his short stint with the team.

Along with Scott, wide receiver Nick Easley was released as well. He made a bit of noise during training camp last year, but still appeared to be a longshot to make the team’s roster in 2020. He was behind the likes of Isaiah McKenzie, Duke Williams, Robert Foster, an Isaiah Hodgins… all of which are much on the roster bubble themselves.

Bills sign CB Akeem King, DT Niles Scott

Buffalo Bills sign two players to replace COVID-19 opt outs.

The Bills announced on Sunday that the club has signed free agent cornerback Akeem King and defensive tackle Niles Scott.

This pair of moves comes in two positions that are not very surprising at this time. Buffalo lost the services of both cornerback EJ Gaines and Star Lotulelei within the past few days. Both opted out of playing in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Both of the new signings are expected to battle for depth spots.

King spent the last two seasons with the Seahawks, playing a chunk of special teams time there. Buffalo special teams coordinator Heath Farwell previously played with the Seahawks before joining the Bills and prior to his coaching career.

King was a seventh-round pick of the Falcons in 2015.

Scott was an undrafted rookie in 2017, and was active in six games with the Bengals in 2018. He has only played in one special teams snap is his career, but has seen 46 on defense, recording four tackles on them.
