Sean Clifford praised by Jeff Fisher after NFLPA Collegiate Bowl

What Jeff Fisher thought of Sean Clifford after the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl

Penn State quarterback [autotag]Sean Clifford[/autotag] has wrapped up his college career and is now beginning his battle into the NFL, which may take a more unique approach than some may realize. Part of that comes in the form of battling through practices at the all-star game known as NFLPA Collegiate Bowl.

Coaches and scouts spoke to NFL Network’s Bridgen Condon and had praise for the former Penn State signal caller calling him one of many “intriguing prospects” at the game and he became more of a talking point for his coach.

Clifford was coached by former NFL coach Jeff Fisher, who spoke to NFL Network and shared his thoughts on Clifford.

There’s a great deal of talent there…when you talk about a starting quarterback at Penn State University, you talk about their experience and just to watch him here handle himself for the first couple of days of practice,” Fisher said to NFL Network.

While people may be dismissive of Jeff Fisher due to his failings as an NFL coach, he has been able to identify quarterback talent. He coached Steve McNair, Jared Goff, Case Keenum, and former Nittany Lion [autotag]Kerry Collins[/autotag]. For the example of Collins, he was an NFL starter for awhile but then became a career backup, which may be a career that Clifford sees for himself in the NFL.

He can add depth to a quarterback room and bring professionalism to the job that so many clamor for.

“Clifford’s played a lot of ball. You can tell that Clifford is probably the most operationally sound,” one scout told NFL Network. “He’s the most polished. He knows what he’s doing.”

We will see how his draft process plays out with the scouting combine right around the corner.

Mitchell Tinsley turns strong NFLPA Bowl week into Shrine Bowl invite

Penn State receiver Mitchell Tinsley heading to Shrine Bowl

[autotag]James Franklin[/autotag] went to the transfer portal this past spring and looked for a wide receiver to add depth to the young talent on the roster. He found [autotag]Mitchell Tinsley[/autotag], who had a great season, proved to be a reliable target, and helped secure a Rose Bowl win for the Nittany Lions to top it all off.

After a great season in the blue and white, Tinsley is headed to the NFL, but first, he had to head back to Pasadena for the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl.

CBS reporter Emory Hunt gave reports of who stood out during the week’s practice and Tinsley made the cut. He stated “Tinsley had himself a stellar week. We always use the phrase ‘plays bigger than his size’…that aptly described Tinsley’s week.”

He went on to add that “It was surprising to see his measurements juxtaposed to how he performed. You would’ve thought he was 6-5, 225 with how big he played.”  He also mentioned that for someone who plays so big that his athleticism was even more impressive when you look at his game as a whole.

After that standout performance Tinsley turned that into a Shrine Game invite. The East-West Shrine game is played in Las Vegas and is right behind the Senior Bowl for being the top senior all-star game. If he can show out at another all-star game in front of NFL teams, he may see his draft stock skyrocket as a result.

3 NFLPA Collegiate Bowl prospects who could help the Houston Texans

Here are three prospects from the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl the Houston Texans should take a look at.

Much of the Houston Texans’ draft process will include the excitement of the first round as the franchise works with two picks in the top-15 overall.

However, with 12 picks, tied with the Kansas City Chiefs for the most in April’s draft, the Texans have a wide scope for when it comes to adding young talent. As such, they also need to keep in mind some prospects who may not be winning the publicity battle during draft season.

The NFLPA Collegiate Bowl kicks off Jan. 28, and here are three prospects the Texans need to keep tabs on throughout the draft process.

Michigan State football DT Jacob Slade commits to play in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl

Jacob Slade officially commits to play in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl

Michigan State football defensive tackle Jacob Slade has been one of the Spartans’ best defenders, albeit a little under-the-radar, for a few years now. Slade officially committed to participate in the game on Thursday.

Two former Browns will coach at NFLPA Collegiate Bowl

Two former Browns will be coaching at the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl

As the college football season has drawn to a conclusion, the 2023 NFL Draft process is now underway. The first step in the process is the various all-star games (Hula Bowl, NFLPA Collegiate Bowl, East/West Shrine, Senior Bowl). And today, the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl has announced their coaching staffs, and two former members of the Cleveland Browns will be mentoring those in attendance. Both return specialist and wide receiver Joshua Cribbs, and backup quarterback Seneca Wallace will be coaching. Cribbs will be coaching special teams for the American Team, while Wallace will be the quarterbacks coach for the National squad for the week.

Titans great Keith Bulluck to coach LBs at NFLPA Collegiate Bowl

Titans great Keith Bulluck will serve as the LBs coach under Eddie George at NFLPA Collegiate Bowl.

A third Tennessee Titans great will be taking part in the 2023 NFLPA Collegiate Bowl.

The game already features two former Titans as the head coaches, with Jeff Fisher leading the American Team and Eddie George leading the National Team.

But former Titans linebacker Keith Bulluck is also chipping in and will serve as the linebackers coach under George, he announced on Saturday.

A former first-round pick, Bulluck spent 10 seasons with the Titans and was a first-team All-Pro and Pro Bowler in 2003. Fisher was his coach for all 10 of those seasons, and he played with George from 2000-03.

George has spent the last two years as the head coach at Tennessee State University, while Fisher was the head coach of the USFL’s Michigan Panthers in 2022.

The NFLPA Collegiate Bowl will be a week-long event that helps prepare draft-eligible players for the NFL, while also allowing them to showcase their talents. The game will take place on Jan. 28.

These 7 former Gators accepted invites to play in postseason all-star games

Here’s where these seven former Gators will be playing in their final collegiate games.

Florida football’s 2022 season has come and gone — including a Las Vegas Bowl blowout loss at the hands of the Oregon State Beavers — which leaves only the postseason all-star games remaining for Gators fans to follow. This year, the Orange and Blue will be represented by seven former players stretching across the Reese’s Senior Bowl, East-West Shrine Bowl and the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl.

These midwinter matchups represent the final opportunity for players to get in one last collegiate gridiron grind before embarking on their professional aspirations. While some have more to prove than others, simply the exposure to other coaches and trainers can be a difference maker for a young up-and-coming athlete.

Take a look below at the seven former Florida Gators who will be participating in one of the three aforementioned postseason all-star games.

LB Amari Burney commits to play in NFLPA Collegiate Bowl

Linebacker Amari Burney is working on boosting his draft stock and will play in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl in January.

After declaring for the 2023 NFL draft on Friday, Florida linebacker [autotag]Amari Burney[/autotag] committed to playing in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl on Jan. 28.

The bowl game will be Burney’s final appearance at the collegiate level, and it gives the soon-to-be-former Gator a chance to be scouted by nearly 200 NFL evaluators, including player personnel staff, general managers and head coaches from all 32 NFL teams. According to the game’s website, players will have a chance to take part in interviews and tape review as well.

This should help Burney get some more exposure to NFL scouts and has a chance to boost his draft stock when all is said and done. Other Gators have accepted offers to play in the Senior Bowl and East-West Shrine Bowl, so fans unfamiliar with the bowl game should consider this a similar step.

Burney leaves Florida after five years and several position changes. He started off in the secondary and then shifted to the linebacker spot after a few years. He ended up starting 22 games for the Gators during his collegiate career and totaled 223 total tackles, seven sacks, 15 tackles for loss, four interceptions, 16 defended passes and two forced fumbles.

Aside from the on-the-field measurables, Burney emerged as a leader of the team during Billy Napier’s first year in Gainesville and the Gators head coach acknowledged him as such earlier in the year. Getting a chance to meet with scouts and coaches should only help Burney as he goes through the draft process.
