Should Titans put Brett Kern in Ring of Honor?

Shaun Calderon shares his thoughts on whether or not the Titans should Brett Kern in the Ring of Honor.

If there’s one gripe I personally have when it comes to the Tennessee Titans’ organization, it’s the fact that the team rarely honors the truly great players of the last 24 years.

To be fair, the franchise under Amy Adams-Strunk has done a much better job of honoring the players of the past in the form of homecoming week, 12th Titan, etc.

Yet, for whatever reason, when it comes to adding anybody to the Ring of Honor and retiring their numbers, the team practically refuses to celebrate anyone outside of those who contributed to the early Titans teams.

Obviously, retiring numbers is an entirely different conversation since technically there are only 100 available at the very most.

Therefore, that type of honor should be reserved for the true legends of the franchise, such as Warren Moon, Steve McNair, Eddie George and, eventually, Derrick Henry.

Tennessee’s Ring of Honor has several worthy candidates who continuously get overlooked for whatever reason. Unfortunately, that waiting room may have just grown by one more now that Titans legendary punter Brett Kern officially announced his retirement.

After 15 seasons (13 in Tennessee), the Toledo product was given a worthy send-off earlier this week that included lengthy tributes and his own press conference.

During his peak, Kern was a three-time Pro Bowler and a two-time All-Pro who had mastered the ability to direct his kicks wherever he pleased.

On top of being a sniper with his leg, more often than not, he was as clutch as anybody whenever the team needed him to be. Kern even played a large role in going up to New England and ending arguably the greatest dynasty in all of professional sports during the Titans’ 2019 Wild Card win over the Pats.

Logan Ryan may have gotten the final interception, but make no mistake about it, it was Kern’s 10-second punt that pinned the Patriots inside their one-yard line that officially put the final nail in the dynasty’s coffin.

That type of moment, combined with Kern’s laundry list of accomplishments, should be everything he needs to find himself in the Titans’ Ring of Honor.

The real question is, does he deserve it more than former Titans who are also in the aforementioned waiting room, like Chris Johnson, Keith Bulluck, Jevon Kearse, Michael Roos and Taylor Lewan?

In my opinion, all of those players, along with Kern, should at least be in the Ring of Honor, but whether or not they will be remains to be seen.

Titans great Keith Bulluck to be inducted into Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame

Titans great Keith Bulluck is set to be inducted into the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame.

Tennessee Titans legend Keith Bulluck received an incredible honor on Thursday afternoon following the official announcement that “Mr. Monday Night” would be inducted into the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame.

Truth be told, this type of recognition is long overdue for someone like Bulluck.

Not only is he one of the best defenders in Titans history, but you could make an argument that he was in the conversation for best off-ball linebacker in the NFL at his very peak.

Brad Willis, the executive director of the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame, said the following regarding the induction, per Jim Wyatt of Titans Online:

“Keith Bulluck was the heart and soul of the Tennessee Titans defense for many years. His leadership on and off the field was instrumental in the Titans success of the early 2000’s,” he said. “Keith has made his home in Tennessee for over 20 years, and we’re excited to have him as part of our 2023 Hall of Fame Class.”

This honor is well-deserved for the legendary No. 53, and the next step is getting his name where it rightfully belongs inside the Titans’ Ring of Honor with some of the other franchise greats.

Only time will tell if the Titans ever go through with that specific honor, but anyone that was around for those original Titans teams knows just how good and valuable Bulluck was, both on and off the field.

The event to honor Bulluck’s induction, the 2023 Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremony, will take place on July 22.

Jeff Fisher’s team bests Eddie George’s in NFLPA Collegiate Bowl

Jeff Fisher’s American Team got the better of Eddie George’s National Team on Saturday.

A pair of Tennessee Titans greats did battle on Saturday afternoon, as Jeff Fisher and the American Team squared off against Eddie George and the National Team in the 2023 NFLPA Collegiate Bowl on Saturday.

Fisher led his squad to a 19-17 victory over George’s on a last-second, 24-yard field goal from Bijan Nichols, marking just the second time in 11 Collegiate Bowl contests that the American Team has won.

The MVP of the game was East Carolina quarterback Holton Ahlers, who completed 9-of-12 passes for 189 yards and a touchdown. You can check out a full recap of the game right here.

Fisher and George weren’t the only former Titans helping out with the game, as former linebacker Keith Bulluck coached the position on George’s staff.

This was the first time George and Fisher were on opposite sidelines since 2004, when George was with the Cowboys and facing the Titans in a preseason contest.

Fisher is set to return to the USFL’s Michigan Panthers for his second season, while George will be entering his third season at Tennessee State.

Titans great Keith Bulluck to coach LBs at NFLPA Collegiate Bowl

Titans great Keith Bulluck will serve as the LBs coach under Eddie George at NFLPA Collegiate Bowl.

A third Tennessee Titans great will be taking part in the 2023 NFLPA Collegiate Bowl.

The game already features two former Titans as the head coaches, with Jeff Fisher leading the American Team and Eddie George leading the National Team.

But former Titans linebacker Keith Bulluck is also chipping in and will serve as the linebackers coach under George, he announced on Saturday.

A former first-round pick, Bulluck spent 10 seasons with the Titans and was a first-team All-Pro and Pro Bowler in 2003. Fisher was his coach for all 10 of those seasons, and he played with George from 2000-03.

Keith Bulluck: Titans should trade for Russell Wilson, draft QB

Keith Bulluck has a few ideas for what the Titans should do at quarterback this offseason, and we like them both.

Tennessee Titans great and former linebacker Keith Bulluck has an idea for how the team can address its issue at quarterback this offseason, and it involves doing two things.

Bulluck took to Twitter to give his take on what the Titans should do, and it involves somehow pulling off a trade for Seattle Seahawks quarterback, Russell Wilson, who may want out of Seattle.

But he wasn’t done there. Bulluck also suggested that the Titans should take a quarterback in the mid to late rounds of the 2022 NFL draft. Tennessee has a total of six picks this year, with one in the first, third, fifth and sixth rounds, and then two in the fourth (projected comp pick).

From Bulluck’s lips to the football gods’ ears.

Would we take Russell Wilson? Of course, you’d have to be crazy not to want one of the best signal-callers in the NFL. Sadly, the chances are slim that the Titans can pull it off.

For starters, the Titans weren’t one of the four teams Wilson’s agent listed as places he’d be willing to be traded to last March. Is it possible things have changed since then? Maybe, but we can’t say for sure.

The Titans would also have to find a way to unload Ryan Tannehill. Cutting him isn’t an option, as Tannehill’s contract carries dead-cap hits of $57.4 and $18.8 million the next two years.

As far as a trade is concerned, Tannehill’s contract has cap hits of $38.6 and $36.6 million the next two seasons, making him an undesirable trade target for any team looking for a quarterback. The Titans would have to pick up plenty of money to entice a team to make a deal.

The only way we could see Wilson coming to Nashville is if Tannehill is involved in the trade with the Seahawks, along with a ton of draft capital going from Tennessee to Seattle. The two quarterbacks make roughly the same the next two seasons, so it could work.

As great as that all sounds, the much more likely scenario is the Titans drafting a quarterback who can sit behind Tannehill for a year or two and eventually take the reins from him.

Former Titans WR Kenny Britt shares legendary Keith Bulluck story

This story about Keith Bulluck only adds to his legend.

Former Tennessee Titans linebacker Keith Bulluck is one of the best defenders in franchise history, but this story former wide receiver Kenny Britt shared about him only adds to his legend.

Britt says the most epic thing he had ever seen in the league was when he was with the Titans and Bulluck showed up to practice wearing a helmet, shorts, jersey and a pair of Timberland boots.

And it only gets better from there.

That’s what greatness looks like, folks.

Bulluck later explained why he did what he did.

Bulluck spent 10 seasons with the Titans after being drafted with the No. 30 pick in the 2000 NFL Draft. He made one Pro Bowl and was a First-Team All-Pro in 2003. In 2004, Bulluck led the NFL in tackles.

His last season in Nashville came in 2009 when Britt was a rookie, which is when this must’ve happened. Clearly he left a lasting impression on the wide receiver, as he did with the fans that loved to see him play for all those years.
