CB Antonio Hamilton unlikely to return from NFI in Week 5

Arizona Cardinals cornerback Antonio Hamilton is progressing well in his rehab, but it doesn’t sound like he’ll be ready for next Sunday’s matchup against the Eagles.

The Arizona Cardinals had a freak accident in the cornerback room when projected starter Antonio Hamilton suffered serious burns in a cooking incident.

Hamilton fortunately avoided any major long-term health complications but was placed on the NFI, putting him out at least the first four games of the season.

Following Sunday’s game with the Carolina Panthers, Hamilton is technically eligible to return by rule. However, Kliff Kingsbury didn’t sound overly optimistic that he would be available for Week 5’s contest with the Philadelphia Eagles.

“He’s moving around good,” he said Wednesday after practice. “Next week maybe a little aggressive, but we’re hopeful. I think we’ve got to get him out there to see what he’s retained as far as the football stuff, see how he moves around and make sure he is comfortable, but he looks good in his in his rehab.”

Hamilton posted videos on social media of him going through defensive back drills and looked to be in good shape. The Cardinals could use Hamilton back on the field sooner rather than later, as he was the projected No. 2 cornerback before his injury.

Having Hamilton in the fold allows the Cardinals to move Byron Murphy around in the slot and feel comfortable with their two outside corners in Hamilton and Marco Wilson.

The Cardinals could be looking at serious reinforcements in the following weeks with the return of DeAndre Hopkins, Rondale Moore and Hamilton.

Week 5 NFL Expert Picks

Who are the experts taking in Chargers vs. Browns?

Find out who national pundits are favoring in the matchup between the Los Angeles Chargers and Cleveland Browns.

The Los Angeles Chargers are considered 2.5-point favorites over the Cleveland Browns in Week 5 of the 2021 season. The over/under is set to 46.5 points, per Tipico Sportsbook.

That means oddsmakers are taking bets on whether the two teams will combine to score more than or fewer than 46.5 points.

My score prediction for the game is a 24-17 win for the Chargers, with a combined total of 41 points. So if I was putting money behind my prediction, I’d bet the over.

As for game picks, the majority of analysts are favoring Los Angeles.

Mike Jones (USA Today) Chargers
Mike Clay (ESPN) Chargers

Overreaction Monday: Cardinals back to winning ways after Sunday’s victory

The Cardinals convincingly beat the New York Jets this Sunday, showing signs of a talented team ready to make a playoff push.

The Arizona Cardinals convincingly beat the New York Jets on Sunday 30-10. It was a game they needed to win and were expected to win by a large margin. The win did feel like the Cardinals came to play much more than they did the previous two weeks.

Outside of an interception that was more just a great play by Jets LB Avery Williamson, Kyler Murray looked like himself again. DeAndre Hopkins continued his Offensive Player of the Year campaign by racking up 6 receptions for 131 yards and a score. Murray and Nuk seemingly dialed up the same play- a go route to the far sideline, twice to put the Jets away.

The Victory Monday feels will not be strong this week, as it is expected to be announced that All-Pro OLB Chandler Jones will miss the remainder of the season with a torn bicep. Jones, who has been an iron man for the Cards, is one of the few players that the team cannot afford to lose. Barring a change of direction, Arizona will lose one of its best players as the Cardinals prepare for the much more difficult part of their schedule.

The seemingly rejuvenated Cardinals need to keep momentum rolling and beat the Dallas Cowboys next Monday. Dallas themselves suffered a potentially fatal blow, losing star QB Dak Prescott to an ankle injury in a win over the Giants. The highly anticipated primetime matchup between the Cardinals and Cowboys will be without two of the NFL’s stars. Andy Dalton will serve as the quarterback in Prescott’s absence, who has been a quality starter for many years in his career.

After dropping disappointing games to the Lions and Panthers, the Cardinals sit at 3-2. Beating Dallas puts them at 4-2 heading into a home matchup against the red-hot Seattle Seahawks. That’s in Arizona, by the way, where we all know the Seahawks have had their way in the past few years.

On the topic of potentially losing Chandler Jones for the rest of the year, the Cardinals would be wise to search the market as the trade deadline approaches. The October 29th deadline gives Steve Keim enough time to possibly find some help for the pass-rushing unit. Without Jones, a veteran acquisition appears necessary given the talent in the NFC West (even if it is just a one-year rental).

If all comes to pass, the Cardinals will deeply miss Jones. Still, their rebound effort in New York re-ignites hope that we may see playoff football in the desert.

Diving into the NFL world, the five lines that appear to be a wee bit favorable are …

5. Carolina at Atlanta

LINE: Atlanta -1.5
ATS PICK: Atlanta
Bet on this, BetMGM latest line

Atlanta is hurt, it’s off, it’s coaching staff is hanging by the barest of threads, it’s winless, it can’t figure out how to win, its defense has been miserable, the running game hasn’t been consistent enough, the offensive line hasn’t been good enough, and …

The Falcons are way overdue.

Look hard at the four losses. Losing to Seattle and this offense isn’t anything to get into a twist over. The Dallas and Chicago games were collapses, and Green Bay might be one of the three best teams in the NFL at the moment. Even so, the the Atlanta passing game was great, the chances were there, and there but for a few breaks the team should be 2-2.

Carolina is playing well defensively, it’s bending but not breaking, and Teddy Bridgewater has been terrific with Christian McCaffrey out, but …

The Falcons are way overdue, and the line is just 1.5, and 1 in some spots.
