Tua Tagovailoa’s no-look shovel TD pass was so ridiculous the Miami crowd gasped in shock

And he threw it with his RIGHT hand!!!

It’s still extremely early in the 2023 NFL season, but Tua Tagovailoa has more or less picked up where he left off. The fourth-year Miami Dolphins starter once again resembles an MVP candidate and is at the helm of an offense absolutely cruising at the top of the AFC.

On Sunday, the left-handed quarterback with a reputation for a lightning-quick release showed us all that he has a lot more creativity up his sleeve.

Let’s take it to the early second quarter. As the Dolphins offense tried to punch in another touchdown over a hapless Denver Broncos defense, Mike McDaniel dialed up a sleight-of-hand play for Tagovailoa to delightful results. After using a dastardly play fake, Tagovailoa no-looked a shovel pass — with his right hand — to Devon Achane for a touchdown.

Yeah, doesn’t get any better than this. The watching Miami home crowd couldn’t even believe what they witnessed:

That is perfection. That is offensive football at its finest.

Through just about 2.5 games, Tagovailoa is near the top of the NFL in most relevant passing statistics and is one of the sport’s most efficient signal callers. And with savvy plays like this, he’s putting together quite the potential MVP highlight reel.

The 5 best NFL player prop bets for Week 2

Five player prop bets that will take you to the pay window.

In Week 1 we had a good look at all 32 teams and what their squads look like – both their strengths and their weaknesses. In some instances, what we saw in Week 1 wasn’t representative of what we can expect over the course of the full season – teams like the Green Bay Packers, Los Angeles Rams and Cincinnati Bengals.

For most teams, what we saw is what we can likely expect – good and bad – going forward, so with more information to go on, we can base decisions on a track record from this season and, in the case of divisional games with a lot of history, a head-to-head track record.

Ravens QB Lamar Jackson presents another ball carrier Texans must defend

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson’s ability to run and throw means the Houston Texans defense has another ball carrier they must defend.

The Baltimore Ravens have one of the most dynamic quarterbacks in the NFL in Lamar Jackson, but the fact that he can run as well as he can throw is not well understood.

Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt has yet to face Jackson, but knows how much of a threat a quarterback with that type of skillset is to a defense.

“Any time that a team has a quarterback in the run game plan and obviously in the pass game plan, it’s an extra person you have to defend in both aspects,” Watt said. “There is really no free person on the defense. Every single guy has to be accounted for and every guy has to do their job.

“If they make one guy miss or if one guy doesn’t do their job, it makes it that much more difficult on the rest of the defense.”

Jackson wasn’t as impactful on the ground in the Ravens’ 38-6 win over the Cleveland Browns in Week 1. The reigning NFL Most Valuable Player rushed seven times for 45 yards, but completed 20-of-25 for 275 yards and three touchdowns.

“He can do it all,” said Watt. “He can obviously do a lot of great things with his feet and his quickness and his speed and his ability to move around, but he’s also got the ability to stand in the pocket and throw the ball as well. Any time you have to defend both of those things with an equal level of excellence, it’s extremely difficult. It’s a great challenge for us.”

The Texans will have to watch tape from their 41-7 loss to the Ravens in Week 11 last year where Jackson completed 17 passes on 24 attempts for 222 yards and four touchdowns while rushing 10 times for 79 yards. However, they will also take a look at the tape from last week’s romp of the Browns to get a better picture of what Jackson is like in 2020.

“It’s paramount that we all do our job and that we all know our assignment and execute it well,” said Watt.
