Bengals should have two UDFA roster locks after final cuts

Watch for these two undrafted free agents to survive final cuts with the Bengals.

The Cincinnati Bengals cutting 11 players ahead of Tuesday’s final cuts deadline made it even more obvious—at least two undrafted free agents should be roster locks on the initial 53-man roster.

That’s no easy task for an undrafted rookie to accomplish on a contention-ready Bengals roster with little turnover and the team already adding 10 draft picks.

But linebacker Maema Njongmeta has just been that good.

Njongmeta led the Bengals in tackles in all three preseason games and was a standout in camp, so odds are good the staff finds a way to fit him. Aaron Casey, the other undrafted linebacker the Bengals paid up extra to get after the draft, was one of the 11 early cuts.

The other undrafted free agent likely making the initial 53 is punter Ryan Rehkow, though it largely hinges on whether Brad Robbins’ hip injury heals quickly enough to have him ready for Week 1.

Our final 53-man roster projection also has undrafted cornerback Lance Robinson making the final roster, but that’s more of a long shot by comparison.

Either way, even two undrafted free agents making the final roster would speak to a quality job done by the front office in finding talent. And others who just missed — perhaps such as Robinson — could always stay in the program via the practice squad.

Also notable is that the team appears to have several late-round draft pick hits on their hands too, with center Matt Lee’s (seventh routh) stock booming, safety Daijahn Anthony (seventh) seeming like a roster lock and Tanner McLachlan (sixth) being a guy they won’t be able to slip onto the practice squad because other teams will take him.

Ohio State football NFL draft undrafted free agent tracker

Keeping track of all the former Ohio State players that weren’t drafted, but that have signed undrafted free agent deals after the 2022 #NFLdraft

Another NFL draft is in the books. Six Buckeye players were selected throughout the seven rounds of the annual event, but after that begins the feeding frenzy of scooping up undrafted free agents that didn’t hear their names called.

For OSU, that means another decent amount of players that will ink deals to have a shot at making an impression in rookie camp, and possibly beyond. It happens quickly, and the news can come out in droves.

Because of that, we like to keep track of those former Ohio State players that get invited to camps as undrafted free agents. Here’s a look at all the Buckeye football players that have signed with teams as undrafted free agents. We’ll add to it as news becomes available.

Washington Commanders 2022 undrafted free agent tracker

The Commanders made 8 selections in the 2022 NFL draft and they have begun signing undrafted free agents following the draft.

The 2022 NFL draft is in the books, and now the race is on to sign some of the top undrafted free agents. Actually, the race begins long before the end of the draft.

The Washington Commanders wrapped up an eight-member draft class after selecting Oklahoma State cornerback Christian Holmes at No. 260 overall. Washington addressed multiple areas but did not select a linebacker. The Commanders added a wide receiver, defensive tackle, running back, safety, quarterback, tight end, guard and cornerback.

Which positions would Washington look to address in the undrafted free agent market?

Here are each of Washington’s undrafted free agents, which we will continue updating once a new player signs.

5 undrafted free agents who have a chance to make Bengals’ final roster

Here are a handful of free agents who could push for the final roster on the Cincinnati Bengals.

Undrafted free agents always have a chance to make the final roster in Cincinnati.

The Bengals have done well for themselves rather often on the open market right after a draft and this year could be no exception. After the team announced 10 college free agent signings, let’s take a look at the players most likely to make the final roster.

DT Tyler Clark, Georgia

Oh look, another Georgia defensive lineman.

Not that we’re suggesting Clark turns into Geno Atkins. But he’s got intriguing upside at 6’3″ and 289 pounds. He had more than 30 starts for the Bulldogs and has played in a variety of fronts, which grants him some versatility.

There’s going to be a big competition in the trenches this summer and Clark’s makeup and versatility could help him pull off an upset.

Report: Bengals wanted UDFA Jared Mayden before he signed with 49ers

The Bengals had eyes on Alabama’s Jared Mayden in undrafted free agency.

[jwplayer jKpDvIpQ-ThvAeFxT]

The Cincinnati Bengals have been quite active in the NFL’s undrafted free-agency period after the draft.

But maybe not as active as they’d like.

According to Matt Zenitz of AL.com, the Bengals were in on Alabama defensive back Jared Mayden before he ended up signing with the San Francisco 49ers.

Mayden, a 6’0″ and 201-pound prospect from Nick Saban’s Crimson Tide, offered a ton of versatility but fell out of the draft. He would’ve made for an interesting camp-battler over the summer, at a minimum.

If nothing else, this gives us a hint of what the Bengals might have an eye as undrafted free agency continues.

We’ve got a UDFA tracker running and more in-depth breakdowns with highlights of each in the class, too.

Notes, highlights on projected Bengals 2020 undrafted free-agent class

Here’s a closer look at the 2020 Cincinnati Bengals undrafted free-agent haul.

The Cincinnati Bengals didn’t stop after a well-reviewed 2020 NFL draft class.

Duke Tobin, Zac Taylor and Co. turned right around and attacked undrafted free agency, scooping up various names and positions right after the draft ended.

Here’s who they have so far, plus details and highlights for each.

OL Clay Cordasco

Cordasco is a senior who could be in the mix at tackle for the Bengals over the summer. He’s 6’5″ and 314 pounds and posted good measurables and dates like pro days. Fred Johnson is in the mix at right tackle now, but Cordasco has some numbers worth putting to work.

He’s the right guard (No. 56) in the following reel:
