Behind Enemy Lines: Week 14 Q&A with Titans Wire

We caught up with @TheTitansWire’s @MichaelMoraitis yet again this week and he had a few things to say about Tennessee’s struggles, Julio Jones, and more.

The Jacksonville Jaguars will look to get right this Sunday by winning their first away game (London was considered a home game) since 2019 when they beat the Oakland Raiders. They also will be looking to earn their first win in Nashville against the Tennessee Titans for the first time since 2013.

However, despite the team coming into Week 14 desperate for a win, they will be facing a Titans team that leads the AFC South, but has loss there last two. To discuss exactly what shape the team is in heading into Sunday, we sat down with Titans Wire editor Michael Moraitis and here is what he had to say about Mike Vrabel’s group:

Jaguars Week 14 injury report: Shaquill Griffin fully participates in Wednesday’s practice

Shaquill Griffin was a full participant in practice for the first time since sustaining a concussion weeks ago against 49ers.

The Jacksonville Jaguars’ injury report for Wednesday included 12 players, but the good news was that cornerback Shaquill Griffin (concussion) was a full participant. In fact, he was the lone full participant of the whole group.

The veteran is now back on track to return to the field after sustaining a concussion against the San Francisco 49ers a few weeks ago. His change in status came as he was limited last Friday (despite being ruled out against the Los Angeles Rams), but missed the Jags’ last two contests.

However, the Jags had two of their other two top corners on the injury report with Griffin in Nevin Lawson (foot) and Tyson Campbell (groin) after both temporarily exited Sunday’s game before returning. The good news is that both were limited, though, and could see an upgrade in status over the next two days.

The other notables who were limited alongside Campbell and Lawson were guard Ben Bartch (back) and running back James Robinson (heel/knee). Robinson was expected to be on the injury report as he’s been battling his injuries dating back to when the Jags played Seattle. Bartch also isn’t a surprise addition after he exited Sunday’s game against the Rams early with his injury, but Urban Meyer did say he should eventually be fine for Week 14. With him not returning to the game, the Jags inserted Will Richardson into the contest to take the snaps that remained.

Among the players who didn’t practice on defense were notables like edge-rusher Josh Allen (shoulder), linebacker Myles Jack (knee), and defensive lineman Malcom Brown (toe). Allen is a new addition, while Jack and Brown were previously on the injury report and still played Sunday.

On offense, receiver Marvin Jones (rest), Andrew Norwell (rest), and Brandon Linder (back) were the notables who sat out of Wednesday’s practice. Of course, Norwell and Jones will return soon, but Linder will be the player worth watching (Meyer says he’s day-to-day) as he exited Sunday’s game a little before half-time with Tyler Shatley taking his place along the way.

As for the Tennessee Titans, their injury report included notables like cornerback Jackrabbit Jenkins (ankle), outside linebacker Harold Landry III (hamstring), defensive lineman Denico Autry (knee), and linebacker Rashaan Evans (ankle). To get more on their situations, Titans Wire has the latest.

Titans vs. Jaguars: Week 14 Jags Wire staff picks and predictions

The Jags and Titans’ Week 2 game went down to the wire, but could that be the case again this week?

The Jacksonville Jaguars will be hosting the Tennessee Titans for the 53rd time Week 14. The rivalry is one that Tennessee currently leads with a 31-21 record against the Jags, but a win for the Jags certainly isn’t out of the realm of possibilities despite being a one-win team.

Most national analysts feel the Titans will be able to add another to the win column, while some have projected an upset as the Titans are coming off a lackluster showing to the Cleveland Browns. It was a mixed bag of predictions for us at Jags Wire, too.

Here are our predictions on the week as the two rivals are set for what could be an entertaining battle at the least:

James Johnson (@Sportsgrind_Don): Titans 27, Jaguars 21

Oddly enough, it’s actually getting hard to take teams to beat the Jags by more than three points, but I did anyway. They’ve been pretty competitive for Doug Marrone and company since the bye (minus the Steelers game) and Sunday’s game against a familiar opponent shouldn’t be any different.
The difference, in the end, will be experience. One team knows how to win, while the other doesn’t. I think the Titans get a little separation late in the game.

Phil Smith (@PhiltheFilipino): Titans 34, Jaguars 20

If you told me that the Jags’ Week 2 loss to the Titans was going to be the beginning of an 11 game losing streak earlier in the season, I wouldn’t have believed you. I also wouldn’t have believed you if you told me Mike Glennon would be the starting quarterback and not because of injury. Regardless, here we are just waiting for the sand to run out on the season so we can look ahead to the future.

Tennessee could very well mess up and allow this game to stay close, but they also may be determined to make a statement. Either way, I see the Titans having a bit of a rebound performance here.

Daniel Griffis (@DanDGriffis): Titans 34, Jaguars 20

When the Jaguars met the Titans earlier in the season, it was a game that came down to the wire. I’m not sure this week’s matchup plays out quite the same as the Titans are coming off a tough loss and Jacksonville is in search of any sign of success. The Jags might keep this one close, but the combo of Tannehill and Henry is likely to be what does the Jaguars in.

Robert Ricks (@rrickswriting): Jaguars 24, Titans 20

The Jaguars have been keeping games close but haven’t been able to finish. The Jags will need to once again contain Derrick Henry, which they do really well at TIAA Bank Field. Titans have three cornerbacks out for the game so Mike Glennon could get comfortable through the air. This feels like an upset in favor of the Jags.

Will Frost (@willfrost_): Jaguars 27, Titans 21

The Jaguars have been playing teams hard these past few weeks, having lost four of their last five by only four points or less. All the while keeping their fans happy as the team maintains their place toward the top of the draft order.

With discussions about potentially picking No. 1 now over following the Jets’ epic collapse last weekend, this divisional matchup could be the perfect feel-good tonic to what has been a dismal Jaguars season. The Titans were embarrassed by a Cleveland Browns team that the Jaguars were able to the limit. Stranger things have happened than a surprise division win.

Spread update: Jags now 7.5 underdogs to Titans

In our first look at the spread earlier in the week, the Jacksonville Jaguars were underdogs by seven points, however, the spread has now slightly moved to a 7.5 figure, per BetMGM.

There was also a shift in the money line as it moved from a +290 figure to +300, which means a $100 wager on the Jags would net a bettor $300. As for the over/under, it moved from 52.5 to 51.5.

The Jags will be battling against a bit of bad history against the Titans, who have a 6-1 record against the Jags in their last seven games. They also have an all-time record of 31-21 against the Jags, though the Jags’ success at home against the Titans is a little better (12-14).

One important tidbit worth noting is that the Jags have lost four of their last five by four points or less and that could be the case Sunday. They will be coming off a 27-24 loss to the Minnesota Vikings that went into overtime, while the Titans will be trying to get over a rough 41-35 loss to the Cleveland Browns that wasn’t as close as the final indicates.

How to watch, stream, listen to Titans vs. Jags

The Jags and Titans won’t have a wide coverage area for their Week 14 game, but there will be several other ways to tune in for fans.

The Jacksonville Jaguars will host the Tennessee Titans for a meeting that will mark their second of the 2020 season Sunday. The two met Week 2 in a game that the Titans won by a late field goal that put the game at a score of 33-30.

When both teams take the field, the Jags won’t only have a chance to return the favor to the Titans, but they also will have a chance to throw off their playoff hopes. They are atop the AFC South with an 8-4 record, however, the Indianapolis Colts share that record and are lurking in the shadows.

While Sunday’s game could be entertaining, the coverage area isn’t all that wide this week. Here is how those of you at home can watch, stream, and listen to Week 14’s game:

Will the Titans-Jaguars Week 14 game be on TV in your area?

The coverage area for the Titans’ and Jags’ Week 14 game won’t be that wide, but it could be a entertaining matchup that is extremely close.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have two games remaining against their divisional opponents and will knock one off the list Sunday as they take on the Tennessee Titans. After an interesting Week 2 meeting that was decided by a late field goal, the two could have a similar showdown Sunday with several players injured.

The Jags and Titans will enter Sunday’s game on opposite ends of the AFC South as far as their record goes. The Titans are currently on the top of the division with an 8-4 record, while the Jags are dead last with a 1-11 record. Despite that, the pressure is more so on the Titans after a rough showing against the Cleveland Browns last Sunday.

As usual, kickoff time for the Jags will be at 1:00 pm EST on Sunday, Dec. 13 on CBS. Per 506 Sports, those who live in the areas shaded with light blue will be able to see the game locally.

Calling the game this week will be Ian Eagle (play-by-play) and Charles Davis (analyst), who called the Jags’ game a few weeks ago against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Jags will enter Sunday’s game with a 21-31 record against the Titans. They will be looking to overcome a slump where they’ve only won one of their last seven games against Tennessee, with the most recent win coming last season via Thursday Night Football.

The game is one that will also feature two of the top-3 rushers in football in Derrick Henry and James Robinson. With 1,317 yards to his name, Henry will look to further distance himself from the rest of the league for another rushing title Sunday, while Robinson (968 yards) will be looking to surpass the 1,000-yard mark.

Behind Enemy Lines: Week 14 Q&A with Titans Wire

The Jags and Titans will meet for the second time in 2020 this Sunday, but a lot has changed since the two last played.

The Jacksonville Jaguars only have two divisional games left to be played as they’ve entered the last quarter of the season, and one of those games will occur Sunday against the Tennessee Titans. As many are aware, the two teams would definitely consider the other their biggest rival in the NFL, despite many of the wins going in the Titans’ favor in recent times.

Still, if the game is anything like their last meeting, things will be interesting. To discuss the state of the Titans since meeting the Jags Week 2, we sat down with Titans Wire editor Mike Moraitis. Here are five questions he was kind enough to answer about Sunday’s AFC South battle:

Mandatory credit: Greg Walker

Jaguars Wire: The Titans are coming off of a loss where the Cleveland Browns were very dominant. What were some of the Titans’ biggest issues in that surprising showing from them?

Mike Moraitis: One simple explanation is that it didn’t look like the Titans were ready for the Browns’ pass-first approach, and the lack of adjustments points to bad coaching. And, as has been the case for much of this season, Tennessee was simply poor in coverage and provided zero pressure on Baker Mayfield.

JW: Jadeveon Clowney is out for the season. With that being the case, who are the Titans going to have to rely on to be their main source of a pass-rush Sunday?

MM: To be honest, Clowney didn’t really make much of an impact anyway, so losing him isn’t as big as it seems. The Titans are using multiple players at outside linebacker in Derick Roberson and Tuzar Skipper, but neither has done much to improve the pass rush.

JW: When looking at the Jags, what are some things that concern you from the Titans perspective as we get closer to the game?

MM: I think the Jags have an underrated group of receivers, and if Mike Glennon is playing well and can deliver the ball to them, that could present a problem for the Titans’ secondary, which has been underwhelming, to say the least. The good news for Tennessee is that Adoree’ Jackson might be making his 2020 debut this week, although I feel like I’ve said that 100 times this season, and it never happens.

Mandatory Credit: Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports

JW: The Titans and Colts currently have records of 8-4. That said, who do you think will finish atop the AFC South this season?

MM: The Titans currently own the tiebreaker, which is division record, so they already have a leg up. Furthermore, Tennessee has a slightly easier schedule down the stretch here, with its opponents having a combined record of 19-29, while the Colts’ opponents are a combined 23-25. I think the Titans end up grabbing their first division title since 2008.

Mandatory Credit: Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports

JW: What are your score predictions for the game Sunday?

MM: It’s December, so you know what that means: time for Derrick Henry to run wild. I think he bounces back in a big way after a bad game last week and puts up video game-type numbers against the Jags. It’s all Titans in this one.

4 Jaguars to watch on defense vs. Chargers

The Jags will need their defense to step up if they are to defeat the Chargers Sunday, making Yannick Ngakoue a key player to watch.

The Jacksonville Jaguars’ chances to make the playoffs are slim, but they at least want to go out with a bang this month. They will have a chance to end their four-game losing streak against the Los Angeles Chargers this Sunday but will need some help from their defense, which has looked like a shell of themselves as of late.

Here are four players who the Jags will need to step up come Sunday if they are to defeat the Chargers, who are also looking to end a losing streak of their own:

LB Donald Payne

Donald Payne played lights out while starting in Myles Jack’s place Week 13 against the Tampa Bay Bucs. He was able to accumulate 13 total tackles and a sack and will now be the starter at middle linebacker for the remainder of the season because Jack was placed on injured reserve this week.

With Jack having a terrible showing in the middle this year, it’s unknown if he’ll play there next year, especially with the possibility of the coaching staff being let go. That said, Payne can make his case to start in the middle with a strong day against the Chargers and beyond.

Chargers vs. Jaguars: 3 causes for concern against Los Angeles

There are a lot of concerns for the Jags heading into Week 14, but the pass rushing duo of Bosa and Ingram should be atop the list.

The Jacksonville Jaguars 2019 season has been a forgettable one and most fans have been anticipating its end. The Los Angeles Chargers’ season has been equally disappointing, however, most tend to think they have a better chance to win Sunday’s game between them and the Jags.

With a 7-3 all-time record against the Jags and a better overall team than Jacksonville, there are several concerns we have here at Jags Wire for Week 14’s game. Here are three of our biggest concerns as they will look to end a four-game skid this Sunday:

Mandatory Credit: Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports

The Chargers pass rushing duo of Nick Bosa and Melvin Ingram

The Jags will be up against one of the fiercest passing defenses in football as the Chargers only allow an average of 199.3 passing yards a game. That’s good for fourth in the league, which means the Jags could struggle to find guys like DJ Chark Jr. and Dede Westbrook through the air.

Part of the reason for that is because of the dynamic duo they have as pass rushers in Melvin Ingram and Joey Bosa, both of whom have grades of 77.9 and 86.2, respectively, via Pro Football Focus. The two will enter Sunday’s game with a combined total of 14 sacks and will be looking to get after rookie quarterback Gardner Minshew II.

The most concerning part about going up against the Chargers pass rush is how Cam Robinson is playing at the moment as he hasn’t been overly impressive. Jawaan Taylor could also have issues against the dynamic pair as he’s had issues with penalties and leads the league in the category with 13.

This issue brings me to my next topic of concern.

Jags list TE Seth Devalve as doubtful, safety Ronnie Harrison as questionable vs. Chargers

The Jacksonville Jaguars released their final injury report for Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers, and just two players surfaced in the status column. Those two players were safety Ronnie Harrison (concussion), who was ruled questionable and Seth Devalve (oblique), who was ruled doubtful.

Harrison missed the Jags’ last game against the Tampa Bay Bucs after sustaining a concussion in the first-quarter of the game prior against the Tennessee Titans. He didn’t practice on Wednesday or Thursday, but was limited Friday.

DeValve, on the other hand, hasn’t played since before the Jags’ bye week. He sustained an oblique injury heading into the Jags’ Week 11 game against the Indianapolis Colts and hasn’t played in a game since. He was limited Friday, but it feels like the Jags are unlikely to push him at this point. He has a better chance to return later down the road if anything.

The remainder of the players on the Jags’ injury report were full participants, including notables DJ Chark, Dede Westbrook, Calais Campbell, A.J. Bouye, Donald Payne and Brandon Linder.
