Jags Week 5 injury update: Brandon Linder sustains MCL, ankle injuries vs. Titans

The Jags’ starting center was carted off Sunday against Tennessee, and according to Urban Meyer, it was for injuries to his MCL and ankle.

The Jacksonville Jaguars sustained a couple of notable injuries during Sunday’s loss to the Tennessee Titans and two of them were to starters. Of course, the biggest one was to center Brandon Linder, who was carted off after a fourth-and-goal play where Carlos Hyde was stopped behind the line of scrimmage.

Linder sustained the injury while in the pile, and though the broadcast angle wasn’t clear, it looked as though his leg was twisted in the scrum. With him exiting the game, the Jags replaced him with Tyler Shatley, who saw a total of 15 snaps.

After the game, coach Urban Meyer told the media that Linder’s injury was an MCL and ankle injury that may not be as bad as many initially thought. With that being the case, his situation will be worth monitoring throughout the week, starting with Monday afternoon when Meyer meets with the media again.

The other starter who was injured was linebacker Myles Jack, who left the game with a back injury in the second half and was questionable to return. After his injury, backup linebacker Dakota Allen also sustained an injury (shoulder), which then forced Shaq Quarterman into action.

Heading forward, the situations of Jack and Allen will definitely be worth watching, too, as they could test the Jags’ depth at interior linebacker with a trip to London and a game against Miami coming up. As previously stated, some news could become available on Monday when Meyer speaks with the media, and the injury report, which comes out Wednesday, could also reveal a lot.

Jaguars lose to the Titans, 37-19: Here are the reactions from Twitter

After loss No. 20, here are some of the best Twitter reactions from the Jags’ Week 5 loss to the Titans.

In a scene that has been all too familiar, the Jacksonville Jaguars have lost another game.

For the 20th consecutive time, the Jaguars added one to the loss column, and their AFC South rivals in the Tennessee Titans are the cause of it. While the Jaguars played tough for all four quarters, it wouldn’t be enough to win as they fell to the Titans at home by the score of 37-19. The loss brings the Cardiac Cats to 0-5 on the season with another tough opponent in the Miami Dolphins coming up in Week 6. The game will be played in London at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the Jaguars’ usual yearly trip across the pond.

With the Jaguars coming off of one of the most tumultuous media weeks in franchise history due to head coach Urban Meyer’s actions at an Ohio bar, the loss against a bitter rival only made things worse amongst the Duval faithful.

Here’s how Twitter reacted to the loss against the Titans:

Jags Week 5 Player of the Game vs. Titans: RB James Robinson

Today’s peak performer for the Jags was an easy one. What a day from James Robinson.

In a Week 5 game that was a lot closer than the score would indicate, it was James Robinson who put the team on his back and gave it his all against the Jacksonville Jaguars’ in-division rivals in the Tennessee Titans. The second-year player came out strong and ended up accumulating an explosive 8.3-yard rushing average. The Titans seemed lost as to stop his rushing attack.

On the opening drive, Robinson broke out for a 58-yard gain, a career-long for the young back. He then followed up the long run with a 1-yard touchdown rush to put the Jags on the board.

Unfortunately, the Jags’ kicking woes continued as Matthew Wright would miss the follow-up extra point. He would also miss a long 53-yard field goal later, which fell short.

Robinson, however, was as consistent as ever. Two drives later, he would scamper for 15 yards to aid a 70-yard touchdown drive that ended in a Lawrence to Hollister reception.

Robinson’s day continued as he would have drives of 22 and 33 yards on the ground that helped facilitate scoring opportunities for the offense. It appeared as though the team went away from him at times, specifically when they elected to give the ball to Hyde on fourth-and-one on the goal line. The play ended up being a 3-yard loss.

Robinson finished his spectacular day with a career-high of 149-yards and a touchdown. If Lawrence can continue to improve and make good decisions as he has lately and Robinson continues his pace, the offense can score points.

The team gets closer every week, they just have to get over the hill and win. It’s clear Robinson is the team’s best player at the moment and he will be a key factor in getting the team where it needs to be.

3 keys to a Jags victory vs. the Titans

Defeating the Titans won’t be easy, but if the Jags can put together a more complete game than they did last week, they certainly have a chance.

The Jacksonville Jaguars will head into another Sunday looking for their first win of the 2021 season. They will also be looking to avoid their 20th consecutive loss, which would put them six away from the 1976-77 Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ streak, which is the longest in modern NFL history.

With a rough week where coach Urban Meyer dominated the headlines for the wrong reasons and a heartbreaking Thursday Night Football loss in Cincinnati behind them, a win won’t be easy against the 2020 AFC South champions in the Tennessee Titans. However, with the Titans not looking as dominant as they have in the past, this is a team the Jags can defeat if they continue to improve.

All of that said, here are three keys that could lead to a Week 5 victory:

Titans vs. Jaguars 2021 live stream: Time, TV schedule, how to watch online

Here is all the info needed to tune in to the Titans’ and Jags’ Week 5 game Sunday.

The Jacksonville Jaguars (0-0) are in search of their first win still and will look to get it from their division rivals in the Tennessee Titans (2-2). They will have to do it after a rather interesting week where coach Urban Meyer was in the national and local headlines for the wrong reasons, and the team is coming off a heartbreaking loss to Cincinnati.

However, the Titans will be also looking to get back on track after a Week 4 loss, too. They were upset by the New York Jets in an overtime battle that ended with a score of 27-24, giving Gang Green their first win of 2021.

A big reason for Tennessee’s struggles was the injuries they went into the game with as they were without starting receivers, Julio Jones and A.J. Brown. Both once again surfaced on the injury report this week, but the latter will play, which puts them in better shape than last week. Still, it’s a situation the Jags would gladly take instead of having to deal with both.

Another injury situation worth watching for the Titans will be at left tackle. Both starter Taylor Lewan (toe) and backup Ty Sambrailo (foot) surfaced on the injury report as questionable. However, the former was a full participant in practice Friday, which could be a good thing for his chances to play, while the latter was limited.

The other issue the Titans have that the Jags may be able to take advantage of is their struggling passing defense. The unit will enter the game 23rd after allowing rookie Zach Wilson to go 21-of-34 against them and throw for 297 yards and two touchdowns. That’s probably music to Trevor Lawrence’s ears as the rookie will be coming off his best game as a pro against the Bengals. Simply put, if he can continue his success, the Jags have a chance and could avoid hitting the 20 consecutive loss mark.

For those looking to see if the Jags can get their first win, here is all the info needed to tune in.

Jaguars elevate kicker Matthew Wright from practice squad before game vs. Titans

Kicker Matthew Wright was activated off practice squad for the second consecutive week by the Jags.

On Friday, Urban Meyer told the media that he would hold off for another day on the Jacksonville Jaguars’ kicking competition — and now the decision appears to have been made. The team has elevated Matthew Wright from their practice squad, which points to him being active Sunday against the Tennessee Titans.

With Wright being activated, it’s a sign that veteran kicker Josh Lambo will be inactive Sunday. If that’s the case, it would be the second consecutive game where the Jags have gone with Wright over Lambo.

Last week against the Cincinnati Bengals, Wright didn’t get the opportunity to kick a field goal but was 3-of-3 on extra-point attempts. However, he entered the game, which was his first with the Jags, 4-of-4 on field-goal attempts. All four of those attempts came last season with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Jags’ pending decision at kicker comes as Lambo has had a rough season. He’s currently 0-of-3 on field-goal attempts and 5-of-7 on extra-point attempts, and that resulted in the Jags holding out back Week 4 for confidence/performance issues.

Podcast: Week 4 review, looking ahead to Week 5 with ‘Bleav in Titans’ podcast

After a crazy week within the Jags football community, “Bleav in the Jags” has you covered with their weekly review and preview of Week 5.

The Jacksonville Jaguars fell to 0-4 last week due to a primetime loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, but little did they know, that wouldn’t be the last of their problems for the week. In addition to the loss, head coach Urban Meyer went viral for a bar situation and his story (in addition to the loss) made the last 10 days one of the most exhausting that Jags fans have endured in a while.

The whole process was reviewed by James Johnson and Phil Smith on episode 89 of “Bleav in the Jags.” They discussed it all from whether or not winning Week 5 would help Meyer’s situation, why Shad Khan is unlikely to move on from the first-year head coach, and more surrounding his actions. Afterward, they reviewed the Thursday night loss to the Bengals and assess the positives and negatives to take from it.

Lastly, the duo linked up with the “Bleav in the Titans” podcast to preview Week 5’s game with former Titans defensive backs Denard Walker and Davey Hudson of Fox Sport Knoxville. Among the topics discussed were the factors that led to the Titans falling to the New York Jets, the Titans’ offseason additions, the expectations for the team, and much more.

The episode can be heard below in the media player, while archived episodes can be revisited here.

Week 5 final injury report: Jags rule Robertson-Harris out vs. Titans, Campbell, McCray ruled questionable

The Jags will be without DL Roy Robertson-Harris for the third consecutive week. They also ruled CB Tyson Campbell and DE/OLB Lerentee McCray questionable.

The Jacksonville Jaguars ruled just one of four players out for Sunday’s game against the Tennessee Titans in defensive lineman Roy Robertson-Harris (ankle). As a result, the veteran will be out for his third consecutive game.

The Jags also ruled two of the four players on the injury report questionable in cornerback Tyson Campbell (toe) and edge rusher Lerentee McCray (hamstring). The decision on both players comes as they were both limited on Thursday and Friday. McCray didn’t practice on Wednesday, though, and Campbell was once again limited.

McCray sustained his injury last week against the Cincinnati Bengals and was questionable to return as a result.

The last player to mention on the Jags injury report was running back Carlos Hyde (shoulder). He was a full participant in practice all week and didn’t surface in the status column as a result.

Playing for Robertson-Harris will likely be veteran Adam Gotsis, who started Weeks 3-4 against the Arizona Cardinals and Bengals in his place. He’s been solid against the run in the process, which could be huge for the Jags as Derrick Henry is coming to town.

Playing in Campbell’s place could be Tre Herndon or Nevin Lawson, as both are listed as CB2s on the Week 5 depth chart. If Herndon gets the nod, then Chris Claybrooks could then kick in to nickel if needed.

Lastly, if McCray can’t play (who isn’t a starter), the Jags could make rookie pass-rusher Jordan Smith active in his place. If they did, it would mark the rookie’s first regular season game.

Jags bench Mike Glennon in favor of Gardner Minshew vs. Titans

The Jags have once again switched quarterbacks after a terrible showing by Mike Glennon.

Just as fans witnessed over the past few weeks, Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Mike Glennon struggled to get going Week 14 against the Tennessee Titans, and as a result, he’s been benched. After a rough first half and throwing a terrible pick to Titans cornerback Malcolm Butler in the third quarter, coach Doug Marrone had seemingly seen enough. In came Gardner Minshew II, ending Glennon’s run as the Jags QB1 (at least for now).

Glennon exited the game 13-of-23 for 85 yards, and of course, there was the aforementioned pick.

Minshew, on the other hand, was able to come in and lead the Jags down the field for a touchdown pass to Keelan Cole. Although it was mostly a result of Tennessee taking their foot off the pedal, the drive was an 11-play sequence that lasted almost six minutes.

Minshew unfourtunately was unable to provide another score in the following drive, which ended on downs on Tennessee’s 14-yard line. With five minutes remaining in the game and the score being at a 31-10 figure, this one is out of reach for the Jags and they will endure their 12th straight loss of the season.

The big question heading forward at this point will be which quarterback finishes the season. With the Glennon project running its course, most would bet on Minshew for the remainder of the season — and then it will be a matter of looking ahead to the draft or free-agency for a long-term answer.
