Georgia HC Kirby Smart on Jake Fromm falling in draft

Georgia football HC Kirby Smart talks Jake Fromm falling to the Buffalo Bills in the fifth-round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

Former Georgia quarterback Jake Fromm was projected as an early-to-mid-round selection in the 2020 NFL Draft, but ended up falling all the way to the fifth-round where he was selected by the Buffalo Bills with the No. 167 overall pick.

Draft analysts and Georgia fans were surprised as Fromm remained on the board throughout Saturday including Georgia head coach Kirby Smart, who went on NFL Network to discuss Fromm being drafted by Buffalo.

Smart said:

“I thought all along he’d be a third or a fourth-round pick, and he lasted to the fifth, there’s only one quarterback on the field at a time, and so many teams have filled their need. It was a weird year, things happened in a strange way.”

Kirby is right, it seems that most teams that didn’t have early picks like the Bengals and Dolphins already had options at quarterback.

“I’ve been sitting here holding my breath that he’d get picked,” Smart said. “And now he’s going to cold, cold Buffalo.”

Yeah, Buffalo may be chilly, but if I am Fromm I am happy to go to Buffalo.  A team that already has a quality starter in Josh Allen, a promising young coach and a good defense.

Fromm should be able to sit behind Allen for a few seasons to learn the offense and possibly compete for the job in the future.

And as Georgia fans know, Fromm doesn’t shy away from competition.

Bills trade up? Here’s which teams are reportedly open to moving back

According to NFL Network, those two teams are the Colts and the Dolphins, who select at No. 35 and No. 39.

The Buffalo Bills are finally scheduled to make a selection at the 2020 NFL Draft on Friday. Currently their pick is slated for the No. 54 overall slot.

But if Buffalo general manager Brandon Beane gets a bit antsy, could he swing a trade to move up the draft board? Moving back into the first round on Thursday seemed very unlike and that didn’t happen. In the second round, it’s much less far fetched.

Hours before the second round gets going, there’s already two teams that are considered open for business in regard to trading back from their high draft in Round 2. According to NFL Network, those two teams are the Colts and the Dolphins, who select at No. 35 and No. 39. Those are the second and seventh picks in the second round, respectively.

Could the Bills make a deal with either team?

Unfortunately both seem unlikely, but not impossible.

For reference, the combined draft value of the Bills’ second and third-round picks could get the Bills to the No. 38 pick, where the Panthers are selecting right before the Dolphins. With that in mind, in order to get up to the Colts pick at No. 34, it’d likely cost Buffalo their second, third and fourth rounders. It seems unlikely that Beane would want to do that, unless he adds a pick from a future draft.

In regard to the Dolphins, technically the Bills’ top-two picks could get them there, however, that’s a division rival. It’s worth noting the Bills did swing an AFC East trade in recent memory, sending offensive lineman Russell Bodine to the Patriots in August. But the stakes in that deal, one which saw the Bills land a sixth-round pick in return, were much smaller.

When, where, how to watch, stream day 2 of the NFL Draft

With at least two Sooners expected to go on day two, here is how you can keep up with the draft.

With CeeDee Lamb and Kenneth Murray drafted with the No. 17 and No. 23 picks by the Cowboys and Chargers, it’s Neville Gallimore and Jalen Hurts’ turn to hear their names called.

Gallimore has been sneaking through draft boards as one of the best defensive tackles in this class and could find himself on a contender immediately if other teams stick to the skill positions as they did for the back half of Round 1.

Hurts may be the most interesting player in the 2020 Draft. Will a team use a second-round pick for him?  Will a contender choose him as a successor? Will a team take a chance on him to compete for their starting spot this season? So many questions can be asked which makes rounds two and three so interesting when it comes to Hurts.

With at least two Sooners expected to go on day two, here is how you can keep up with the draft.

McShay announced via social media Thursday that he would miss the 2020 NFL Draft as he continues to recover from COVID-19:

This year’s draft coverage certainly won’t be the same without McShay, who has been an on-air staple for ESPN over the years. But most importantly, we hope he continues his recovery and is back to full health soon.

Tune in to see if the analysts do indeed keep Kiper in line while McShay is on the mend.

With at least two Sooners expected to go in the first round, here is how you can keep up with the draft.

The NFL Draft: where fans are surprised, disappointed, or shocked at their team’s picks.

Both Kenneth Murray and CeeDee Lamb are expected to be two players from Oklahoma to be selected in the first round.

Lamb, is expected to be the first or second wide receiver taken off the board in one of the deepest receiver classes to ever come through the draft.

Murray is projected a bit later in the first round but is one of the top front seven defenders available with a nearly infinite upside that teams salivate over.

With Jalen Hurts’ stock rising over the past two or so weeks, Oklahoma and Alabama fans could be in for a surprise late in round one depending on which other quarterbacks are taken early.

Former NFL head coach turned analyst Steve Mariucci is predicting big things from the Buffalo Bills in 2020.

Former NFL head coach turned analyst Steve Mariucci is predicting big things from the Buffalo Bills in 2020.

Like most, Mariucci said the New England Patriots recent losses such as Tom Brady are going to be game changers. But Mariucci is also convinced by some in-home things with the Bills. He likes the addition of Stefon Diggs to Buffalo’s roster and he called Josh Allen a “dynamic” quarterback.

The Atlanta Falcons aren’t making it a secret that they are willing to move up and make a splash in tomorrow’s virtual draft.

The Atlanta Falcons aren’t making it a secret that they are willing to move up and make a splash in tomorrow’s virtual draft.

While we’ve heard whispers for weeks that the team is considering trading up, reports coming from around the league indicate the Falcons have aggressively sought after a top-10 pick. However, this shouldn’t be considered unusual since teams like to feel one another out in case of a potential draft-day deal.

NFL Network‘s Ian Rapoport discussed the news during a draft preview segment, saying there were reports from multiple teams in the top ten that Atlanta had been interested in moving up.

NFL draft analyst shares where Jarrett Stidham would rank in this year’s draft

Where Jarrett Stidham would rank in 2020 draft

Last year, the Patriots selected Jarrett Stidham in the fourth round of the draft. He sat for a year behind Tom Brady and was given the opportunity to learn under one of the greatest of all-time. Now, he might have the keys to New England’s offense.

However, in a draft that has four consensus first-round quarterbacks, there are some who want the Patriots to draft another quarterback this year. How would Stidham compare to the quarterbacks in this year’s class? One NFL analyst shared his opinion.

NFL.com and NFL Network draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah discussed Stidham on WEEI’s Dale & Keefe show.

Jeremiah said, “(Stidham) was a tricky evaluation because I had seen him throw live, I went and watched him as a counselor at the Elite 11 in Los Angeles and saw him throw with all the top college kids. I thought he threw it better than all of them. I thought he had tremendous ability, but he played in that goofy offense at Auburn, which didn’t do him any favors. He was a tough evaluation, but talent-wise he was impressive.

“I would say last year I had him in probably that third-round range, and then this year I would say, if you just go off of talent, he’d be in the conversation as the fourth or fifth guy.”

So, in this instance, Stidham would be competing with Utah State’s Jordan Love and Georgia’s Jake Fromm to round out the top five. In his most recent mock draft, Jeremiah has Love going 30th and Fromm falling to the second round.

Last year, Stidham was the seventh quarterback selected in the draft behind Kyler Murray, Daniel Jones, Dwayne Haskins, Drew Lock, Will Grier, and Ryan Finley, so that jump is a decent one, but it’s not huge.

With multiple reports about the Patriots talking with quarterback prospects, it would be surprising to see them walk away from the draft without one. However, drafting one, no matter the round, doesn’t mean that guy will start over Stidham.
