Are we expecting too much from Aaron Rodgers after Jets’ 10-9 Broncos loss?

Are we expecting too much from Aaron Rodgers after Jets’ 10-9 Broncos loss?

New York Jets offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett might be disillusioned by the superstar talent quarterback Aaron Rodgers once was, but at age 40, 42 pass attempts is quite excessive.

Rainy weather conditions, the absence of offensive lineman Morgan Moses, and a prolific Broncos’ secondary still wasn’t enough indication for Hackett to relinquish his pass-heavy fantasy.

Hackett must’ve missed the scouting report on the Denver Broncos defense, especially if he thought he would pass the ball effortlessly without substantial resistance.

Rodgers completed just 24 of his 42 pass attempts on the afternoon, a result of exceptional man coverage schemes by the Broncos, and a total of five sacks allowed.

Moving forward, Hackett and Rodgers need to be more intentional about leading a balanced offensive attack. In week 5, the Jets will need to neutralize the pass rush of the Minnesota Vikings defense and avoid three and outs at all cost.

Fortunately, the Jets are only one game behind the Buffalo Bills in the AFC East but fans are becoming restless about the teams offensive struggles.

New York Jets’ LB Quincy Williams is the ultimate playmaker

New York Jets’ LB Quincy Williams is the ultimate playmaker

New York Jets linebacker Quincy Williams leads his team in tackles and is the ultimate playmaker for defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich.

Williams will be a huge disruption to the Denver Broncos ground attack if their offensive line cannot climb to the second level on run plays. Also, the Broncos will want to avoid down and long distance situations, if not they’ll see Williams and safety Chuck Clark deployed in Ulbrich’s blitz scheme.

With linebacker C.J Mosley healing from a toe injury, Williams has taken a leadership role on defense. Williams’ impact has been contagious for teammate linebacker Jamien Sherwood who contributed four tackles in the teams week three victory.

Though criticized after their week 1 loss, Williams and the Jets’ defense have allowed just 1.3 touchdowns per game this season. The Broncos seemed to have found some success in the passing game in week 3, but Williams and the Jets’ defense is an entirely different monster.

Jets’ fans can expect exceptional efforts from Williams as long as he remains healthy. Hopefully his comrade Mosley will return from injury soon.

NFL week 4: Will the Jets attack Broncos’ DB Pat Surtain II?

NFL week 4: Will the Jets attack Broncos’ DB Pat Surtain II?

The New York Jets should not enter NFL week 4 taking the Denver Broncos lightly, especially with defensive back Patrick Surtain II on their depth chart.

Over the last two weeks, the Broncos have held opponents to an average of 10 points per game. Sure, Denver hasn’t played a quarterback with the caliber of Aaron Rodgers this season but they are looking to challenge the Jets’ offensive in the absence of tackle Morgan Moses.

Offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett should not get too experimental with his play calling, that is, until the Jets see their attack catch rhythm.

Hackett’s quick passing attack will be met by the physicality and quickness of Surtain, so opting for zone runs and back shoulder throws to wide receivers Garrett Wilson and Mike Williams make sense.

The Jets ruled the time of possession stat category in week 3, converting a total of 27 first downs. However, the Broncos defense did produce seven sacks in their last match-up and are planning to stifle the Jets offense if they happen to get off track.

Garrett Wilson trolls Sean Payton with outfit during in-game interview

Garrett Wilson scores the latest point against Sean Payton and the Broncos.

The battle between the New York Jets and Denver Broncos continues to brew long before the teams actually play a game against each other on October 8.

The feud between Jets offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett and Broncos head coach Sean Payton may have died down a bit, at least for now, the overall war wages on. The latest round went to Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson.

Payton recently held a press conference and during that, he described some rules he had for players during the first preseason game Friday after they are done in the game.

Per James Palmer of NFL Network, Payton’s rules included uniforms coming off even after they are out of the game, no sunglasses, no “Gilligan” hats — his fancy term for bucket hats — and no interviews during the game.

Well, guess what Wilson did during the Jets’ preseason game against the Carolina Panthers Saturday? You guessed it, he checked off the opposite of almost all those boxes, save for not keeping his jersey on.

Bucket hat? Check. Sunglasses? Check. In-game interview? Check.

It’s just more shade to the Broncos after Payton called out Hackett for his work last season in Denver. Since then, numerous players and coaches have had Hackett’s back, including quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

October 8 can’t get here soon enough. The headlines just keep building.

Aaron Rodgers says Sean Payton needs to keep Nathaniel Hackett’s name out of his mouth

Rodgers jumps in on Payton

Yet another chapter has been written in what has already become quite a story in the Sean Payton saga following his comments on Jets offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett. This time, it’s the big man on campus for New York, quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

The Jets’ quarterback recently spoke with Peter Schrager of NFL Network and went in on the Broncos head coach for saying Hackett performed “one of the worst coaching jobs in the history of the NFL” last week in an interview with USA Today’s Jarrett Bell.

Rodgers defended Hackett, his former offensive coordinator for three seasons in Green Bay before he became the Broncos head coach last year. He thought Payton’s comments were very surprising that a coach would say something like that about another coach.

“It made me feel bad that someone who has accomplished a lot in the league is that insecure that they have to take another man down to set themselves up for some easy fall if it doesn’t go well for that team this year,” Rodgers told Schrager. “I think it was way out of line, inappropriate, and I think he needs to keep my coaches’ names out of his mouth.”

Rodgers made it no secret that Hackett joining the Jets was among the key reasons he wanted to be traded to the Jets this offseason. Rodgers and Hackett have a strong relationship, so for Rodgers, it was like someone went after his brother.

“He’s arguably my favorite coach I’ve ever had in the NFL,” Rodgers told Schrager.  “Just his approach to it. He makes it fun, how he cares about the guys, just how he goes about his business with respect, with leadership, with honesty, with integrity.”

Payton did backtrack on his comments, but not before Jets head coach Robert Saleh and offensive tackle Billy Turner, who played for Hackett in Green Bay and Denver, also responded to Payton.

The fireworks continue to grow for the Week 5 meeting in Denver, especially now that Rodgers has spoken.

Robert Saleh responds to Sean Payton: ‘If you ain’t got no haters, you ain’t poppin’ ’

Robert Saleh responds to Sean Payton: ‘If you ain’t got no haters, you ain’t poppin’ ’

Responding to the sharp criticism leveled at Nathaniel Hackett by Broncos head coach Sean Payton, Jets head coach Robert Saleh seems to be embracing the hate.

Payton took aim at Hackett and his handling of the Broncos as their head coach last season, calling it “one of the worst coaching jobs” in NFL history.

“As far as what we have going on here, I kind of live by the saying, ‘If you ain’t got no haters, you ain’t poppin’, so hate away,” Saleh said.

“Obviously we’re doing something right if you’ve got to talk about us when we don’t play you until Week 4.” (The Jets and Broncos actually play in Week 5.)

Saleh knows there’s a big target on the back of his team. He’s just seemingly taking things day by day.

“There’s a lot of people hatin’ on us and a lot of people looking for us to fail,” he said. “There’s a lot of crows pecking at our neck. But all you can do is spread your wings, keep flying high until those crows fall off and suffocate from the inability to breathe.”

The popcorn continues to grow, and Week 5’s matchup in Denver could be a rather interesting one.

Sean Payton calls Nathaniel Hackett’s stint with Broncos ‘one of the worst coaching jobs’ in NFL history

Sean Payton is not sugarcoating his words for former Broncos coach and current Jets OC Nathaniel Hackett

Week 5’s showdown between the New York Jets and the Denver Broncos just got a little more interesting. Current Broncos head coach Sean Payton took some parting shots at former Broncos head coach and current Jets offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett.

In an interview with USA Today’s Jarrett Bell, Payton spoke about his team and his expectations for the Broncos this season. He also was not shy about his thoughts on what he referred to as an embarrassing season that the Broncos are coming off of in 2022 under head coach Hackett, who was fired a day after an embarrassing 51-14 loss on Christmas Day to the Los Angeles Rams, lasting just 15 games as head coach before landing on his feet in New York.

Payton also blames Hackett for what was by far the worst season in the career of quarterback Russell Wilson.

“They can only beat the (expletive) out of you so much,” Payton told Bell. “But everybody’s got a little stink on their hands. It’s not just Russell. It was a (poor) offensive line. It might have been one of the worst coaching jobs in the history of the NFL. That’s how bad it was.”

Payton isn’t much of a fan of all the PR the Jets are getting, including their appearance on “Hard Knocks”. He also believes all the attention the Broncos received last season didn’t help Denver.

“It doesn’t happen often where an NFL team or organization gets embarrassed,” Payton told Bell. “And that happened here. Part of it was their own fault, relative to spending so much (expletive) time trying to win the offseason – the PR, the pomp and circumstance, marching people around and all this stuff.

“We’re not doing any of that. The Jets did that this year. You watch. ‘Hard Knocks,’ all of it. I can see it coming. Remember when (former Washington owner) Dan Snyder put that Dream Team together? I was at the Giants (in 2000). I was a young coach. I thought, ‘How are we going to compete with them? Deion’s (Sanders) there now.’ That team won eight games or whatever. So, listen…just put the work in.”

So mark your calendars. Jets-Broncos, Sunday, October 8 at 4:25 p.m. ET on CBS.

Vic Fangio, Adam Gase angry over Jets’ ‘ridiculous’ penalties vs. Broncos

After six Jets personal fouls, including one at the end of the game, Broncos head coach Vic Fangio had no interest in exchanging pleasantries with New York postgame.

After six Jets personal fouls, including one at the end of the game, Broncos head coach Vic Fangio had no interest in exchanging pleasantries with New York postgame.

Following a 37-28 win over the Jets on Thursday Night Football, Fangio instructed his team to go straight to the locker room, attempting to avoid a melee. Veteran DL Steve McLendon hitting Broncos QB Brett Rypien late and with the crown of his helmet was the straw that broke the camel’s back for Denver.

“Our sideline was getting pissed off about it and I just wanted to avoid any confrontation at the end of the game and having it get ugly there,” Fangio told reporters postgame. “So I tried to get our guys to leave quickly to avoid anything happening there. I thought it was the prudent thing to do.”

Gang Green leads the league in personal fouls, even before it recorded six on Thursday night. The Jets recorded 11 penalties for 118 yards against Denver. In the first half of Thursday’s game, the Jets had eight penalties for 83 yards, which was the most of any team in the first half this season. New York has now allowed a total of 16 first downs due to penalties this season, which points to the bigger picture of an undisciplined team.

“We had multiple chances to get off the field, but we hurt ourselves. The penalties were just, they were brutal,” Gase said, per the New York Post. “We made them punt one time… When we did hit them, we hit ’em too late. We were getting personal fouls. It was ridiculous.”

The Jets’ penalties were unnecessary and careless; they led to 13 points and seven first downs for Denver on Thursday. Multiple players will likely be fined, while the rest of the league will be put on notice to New York’s antics.

Lawrence Cager doubtful to return vs. Broncos

Another Jets wide receiver bit the dust. This time it was rookie Lawrence Cager.

Another Jets wide receiver bit the dust. This time it was rookie Lawrence Cager.

Cager is doubtful to return to Thursday’s game against the Broncos with a hamstring injury. He fell awkwardly going out for a pass in the second quarter and came up holding his hamstring. Cager was able to walk off under his own power, but he’s likely done for the night.

This was Cager’s second career NFL game. He made his NFL debut last week against the Colts. The Jets are now down to five healthy wide receivers after dressing six for the game.

Jamison Crowder, Chris Hogan, Braxton Berrios, Jeff Smith and Josh Malone remain.
